hawaii is preparing for a rare weather situation. two hurricanes making a bee line for the state. >> iselle is expected to be the first hurricane to make landfall there in more than 20 years and julio is trailing fast behind. >> right now a hurricane warning is in effect for the big island meaning hurricane-like conditions are imminent. o one-two weather punch heading towards paradise. >> hope we can get most of our trip in. no plan b yet. we're working on it. >> city workers on the big island sanding and clearing drains preparing for the worst as two hurricanes barrel across the pacific. people streaming into the airports and airlines changing flights for free so vacationers could flee. >> we probably thoughted be safer to go home. >> reporter: with just a few days separating the powerful storm they're taking nearly the same track. >> we did decide to come out here and make the most of it before we have to be back inside because of the storm.

>> reporter: the conditions expected to deteriorate beginning today as accuweather meteorologist jim dickey explains. >> the first storm to arrive will be iselle, arrives here late thursday night local hawaii time. gusty wind, 50, 60 miles per hour, downing tree, causing flooding across the region. >> hawaiians stocking up at the grocery store and taking the forecast seriously. >> got water, got food and put gas in the car. >> this is due to hurricane iselle and hurricane julio. >> only two hurricanes from made landfall since 1949 both making landfall on the island of kauai. also happening right now, hundreds more oregon residents are out of their hopes this morning because of a wildfire. the new blaze is racing along the columbia river gorge pushed by gusting winds and firefighters worked through the night to protect buildings but the steep slope started with tinder and dry grass only fueling the blaze. more are getting ready to

evacuate if necessary. now to the latest on the worsening ebola outbreak. a state of emergency declared in liberia where close to 300 people have died. >> here at home the cdc is now ramping up efforts against the virus. abc's tahman bradley is tracking the latest. >> reporter: the death toll from the ebola outbreak in west africa keeps rising. the disease has killed nearly a thousand people in four countries. >> ebola is real. >> reporter: in liberia fear is spreading quickly. the bodies of ebola victims litter the streets. the infected are fearing treatment fearing they will be mistreated and it's stretched the nation's health care system. for every 100,000 people there's only one doctor. here in the united states the centers for disease control is now on its highest alert. air one. >> this is not an airborne disease. this is one that can be controlled and contained very effectively if we use the right protocols. >> reporter: u.s. hospitals are taking precautions.

>> this outbreak of ebola is remarkable. the cases in this -- the last couple of weeks represents a third of all the ebola cases ever reported. >> reporter: the two american ebola patients who became infected overseas remain in isolation at this atlanta hospital. doctors hope experimental treatment will save their lives. the family of nancy writebol in a statement said "mom is tired from travel, but continues to fight the virus and strengthen her faith." >> the key here is excellent nursing, frequent vital sign, fixing problems. >> reporter: a spanish missionary priest who tested positive for ebola is being evacuated. spain sent a medical jet, a special medical jet to pick him up and bring him home. reena and devin. >> abc's tahman bradley, thank you. president obama's defending his use of executive powers which is so angering house republicans they moved to sue him. mr. obama says he's willing to take bold unilateral action on immigration reform and tax policy if congress won't.

his attorneys says he was interviewed for eight hours yesterday and that today's session will be brief. bergdahl was freed by the taliban in may in an exchange of prisoners. some members of his unit say he deserted. in south africa the murder trial of olympian oscar pistorius is in the final phase. closing arguments are under way with each side getting one final chance to present their case to the judge. pistorius admits he shot and killed his girlfriend in february of last year. at issue whether it was intentional or tragic error. it may be another month before there's a final verdict. jurors are returning for their first full day of deliberations in the trial of a detroit area man for the fatal shooting of an unarmed teenager on his porch. the jury met for about three hours yesterday in the case of theodore wafer. he's claimed self-defense for firing his shotgun through a screen door at 19-year-old renisha mcbride. well, officials in yellowstone national park say they still hope to remove a drone that crashed into one of the park's famous hot springs.

their concern is such a foreign object could damage the springs' thermal features. a tourist was illegally flying it inside the park last weekend when it crashed into the spring. park rangers say they are receiving an increasing number of complaints about illegal drone flights. a light moment from a very high-profile get-together in washington. check out first lady michelle obama getting down to the rendition of "happy" performed by a youth gospel group from chicago. it happened at a lunch she was hosting, and maybe it wasn't the most energetic dancing we've seen but certainly everybody was moving quite a bit. let's move. >> she's got moves. >> she does. >> she's got moves. better than jagger maybe. time for the thursday forecast. expect thunderstorms and a wide area stretching from the upper plains all the way down to the gulf coast. nearly all of florida will see rain and storms are expected for the northern rockies and even new england. >> dallas joins phoenix today in

russia. no chicken either. that could hurt american farmers as russia is the second largest buyer of american poultry. a deal is in the works this morning for bank of america to pay $17 billion to settle charges that it sold faulty mortgage securities in the run-up to the financial crisis. if approved, it would be the largest single settlement paid by a company in u.s. history. the payout is expected to include hundreds of millions of dollars to help homeowners who are struggling with their mortgages. the average price of gas is under $3.50 a gallon but could be under $3 by the end of the year. gas buddy chief oil analyst tom kloza expects prices to stay stay low throughout the fall and winter. the lowest in the great lakes and rockies. the best price right now is $3.09 in lubbock, texas. if only they shipped to us. and where you live may also soon affect how much you pay for "people" magazine. the head of parent company time

on my part, and i certainly don't want to do it again because i certainly don't want to do any jail time. >> airport officials say hartman was screened by the tsa and passengers were never in danger. philadelphia police are looking for a motive for the murder of a jogger this morning. constance murray had gone for her nightly jog monday in a city park. her husband became concerned when she didn't return. her body, though, was found the next morning. the medical examiner says the mother of two was strangled but found no signs of sexual assault. we're hearing for the first time from the teen given up for dead after a lightning strike. zachary latawiec now stands, walks, breathes and even talks even though his voice is raspy. the 14-year-old and two others were at the beach when they were all struck by lightning. for awhile everyone thought zac would die or at least have brain damage. >> i'm fine with it. i was just surprised that i got struck. >> he had a heartbeat, but he

was not breathing, and the heartbeat was not effective to keep his different organs alive. >> zac's girlfriend only spent a day in the hospital, but her 41-year-old uncle died. it was a week before zac opened his eyes. another day before he spoke. he admits it's a miracle. to health news now and an encouraging report about aspirin and cancer. new research finds that an aspirin a day can reduce the risk of developing colon, stomach and esophageal cancers. the lead researcher says the benefits of aspirin far outweigh the risks, which sometimes can include stomach bleeding. millions of americans already take aspirin to reduce the risk of heart attacks. well, unbelievable video from a quiet new jersey neighborhood. a bear caught on camera walking only on its hind legs just like humans. it strolls by a mailbox, crosses the street. the man who took the video says the bear's front paws were injured. some may question the authenticity, but the man insists it's real.

live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. good thursday morning. it is 4:28. normally we would have the weather in this portion but this morning, what are we doing? >> leyla gulen, what is going on? >> not much. a little bit of construction the happy friday eve. this the drive headed away from the toll plaza along the bay bridge headed up to treasure island. nice and clear conditions. no construction. moving on we have construction not too far away through the caldecott tunnel tunnel eastbound highway 24 a couple of lanes are taken away until 6:00 this morning with a look at south bay traffic in the next report. machine machine is telling me this is a holding pattern? >> inner is back.

we have clouds out there. i drove through them. you will drive into them. after two days driving through wet weather we don't have to worry. live doppler 7 hd is quiet. there is the marine layer and the clouds. they are above the bay bridge. imagine we will have flight arrive delays in sfo. 85 to 95 inland and 64 to 73 along the coast. 74 to 84 around the bay. iselle is coming to hawaii with hurricane warnings at least at 74 miles per hour this morning through sunday. moving west through the chain it will lose some strength and down to a tropical storm so wind below 74 miles per hour through sunday and it exits. we will look at the winds. the trac of that and coming up. >> hawaii will have the first hurricane in two decades were

this is affecting bay area travelers. most flights to and from hawaii through sfo are on time today and i saw one cancellation to honolulu and that is united flight supposed to lobby at 9:05. travelers are bracing for two hurricanes and the first hitting tonight. here video of what it looks like where hurricane iselle is expected to hit. julio is not far from hype. travelers treasuring from the tropical vacations say people were tying down boats, clearing the shelves and filling up with gas. >> lines of costco were horrible for three days. half an hour wait at least or 45
