fire. looks like they just got it out. look at all of this smoke. so they're still dealing with hot spots. this fire is still proving to be a challenge. it's been that way since it started. the fire was huge. it lit up the night sky and jumped from building to building. oakland firefighters tried to get aggressive but struggled out of the gate when eight or nine engines all tried to get water from the same water main. >> we had problems with the water pressure. we had numerous engine companies trying to get water out of the hiydrants at the same time. we responded very quickly and upped the pressure for us. >> that wasn't even the biggest challenge. then they had to deal with the dangers of a live wire falling to the ground. >> the -- at one point the power line and it caught the power line on fire which caused the power line to fall. >> one man trying to save his dog from the yard next door saw the power lines fall. >> i was only in danger when the wire came down. because it did hit the fire --

one of the firemen. and i was pretty close to it. but they got us out of there pretty quickly. >> reporter: he also managed to save hid guas guard dogs. it spread to an abandoned carpet retailer, then to another warehouse, and then to a home. the red cross helped relocate the four adult residents, a dog in that home died in the fire. firefighters are still trying to figure out the fire's cause. >> there was reported that there was spotters in the area. but like i mentioned previous, the original cause of the fire was outside camper shell next to the car pet. >> reporter: run firefighter was hurt, treated for minor injuries at the hospital. because the fire damaged that power line, 5700 people didn't have power this morning. now 29 customers are still without electricity.

and pg&e says they probably won't be able to turn it on until later this evening. reporting live in oakland, abc 7 news chlts new this morning in south bay, students is resuming first day of classes after the campus was put on lockdown. police closed off the elementary school just before 8:30 this morning after the school received a threatening phone call. officers determined the school was safe. they lifted that lockdown a short time later. >> at this point our investigators are looking at possibly a hoax, a s.w.a.t. call, so they're not ruling that out as well. so but at this point we believe that it is safe to be on campus and the school is open. >> santa clara police will keep an officer on campus for the rest of the day as a precaution. some parents who are locked down in classrooms with their children decided to take them home for the day. breaking news out of san francisco. stabbing inside the kitchen at glide memorial church in the

city's tenderloin district. officials say the victim has nonlife threatening injuries. the suspect in the stabbing was arrested on a muni bus at 6th and market. the motive for the stabbing is still unknown. a busy san jose intersection is reopened at this hour after being closed all night for a terrible accident that sent ten people to the hospital. police say a driver in a black mercedes ran a red light at capitol expressway at ocala avenue around 9:30 last night. he broadsided another vehicle, flipped, hit several other cars and vehicle burst into flames. officers used fire extinguishers to tack the flaming until firefighters got there. the driver apparently tried to run off and was arrested. in all, eight vehicles were involved. alcohol and speeding was both factors. new this morning, a man died following a hitnd run in san jose this morning. it happened just before 10:00 last night in the area of balfo drive. the man was crossing the street,

possibly on a bicycle when he was hit by a black sedan. the man who was hit was taken to the hospital and died this morning. happening today, the santa clara county coroner's office expects to leave official fan of death for yesterday's 9er game. he will release the autopsy on the man. his name has not been publicly released. pair med driks swarmed sex 221 after being notified that a man suffered a cardiac emergency. they performed cpr but he did not regain consciousness. this is the third death at the stadium. the first since it opened. we don't know whether heat played a role in that fan's death but we do know the weather was a lot different than we come to expect at candlestick. >> certainly was. meteorologist joins us with this. >> a lot of people were shocked at how much warmer it feels in the south bay than it does at candlestick. let's look at the conditions. if you were at the stick yesterday it was mostly sunny

but the temperature only warmed about 72 degrees. that was the high, but check out the winds out of the west north west at 15 to 25 miles per hour. nice cooling effect there. let's go down to levi stadium where the high topped out at 77 degrees. the uv index was very high though. the winds were only out of the west at five to ten miles per hour. so if you sit in that strong sunshine without that breeze it feels a good 10 to 15 degrees warmer. it felt almost like 90 degrees for the better part of the afternoon for those folk, especially sitting in the eastern side that were in the sunlight all day. >> all right, mike, thank you. we are still getting fan reaction to the new stadium in santa clara following that big 49er preseason loss. nick smith joins us outside the stadium. what's the overall verdict? we did lose. come on. >> well, you you know what, it went off without a hitch, they're saying p this is what officials are telling me. partly because people listened to the instructions that they

suggested around parking. and people listened to the traffic map up on our website telling people how to get to their parking lot. on a scale of one to ten everyone i spoke with gave it a nip. >> it was a mess. >> one day after the 49ers opened the door to their new home to fans, the talk isn't about the 34-0 beatdown they suffered at the hands of the broncos but the levi stadium experience and the challenges of getting here. those living nearby avoided it as best they could. >> i had heard about the two previous events, the soccer game and the grand opnd opening. >> we live in roseville. >> reporter: they heard about it, too. the idea of dealing with loads of traffic and being stuck in gridlock was a turnoff. so these season ticket holders came up with a plan. >> i bought the tickets a year ago. as soon as the schedule came out i was on the hotel reservations instantly. >> fans weren't the only ones to plan ahead. stadium officials and business owners did, too. the former improving the parking

shooting victim michael brown says it had nothing to do with the results of the private autopsy they ordered. those results released two hours after the trouble began. abc 7 news reporter is live in the newsroom. katie? >> eric, the results are interesting. they could end up supporting witness testimony. but it is still preliminary. the pathologist hired by the family says a graze wound on michael brown's right arm could have happened twen he put his hands up or while his back was turned to the shooter. anger boiling over. after a night of shootings, looting, and police responding with tear gas. >> we had to act to protect lives and property. >> reporter: it's fueled to the already raging emotional fire. a private preliminary autopsy report ordered by michael brown's family has just been released. it's found the unarmed

18-year-old shot at least eight times including twice in the head. the medical investigator says the shots were likely not fired at close range. >> what we know from the gunshot wounds to the head is that they were at a distance and they were coming in going from the top down indicate that mr. brown was bent over at the time that those shots occurred. >> police maintain officer darren wilson shown in this facebook photo shot brown after he was physically assaulted by the teenager and his friend. this morning brown's mother told gma's robin roberts all she wants is justice. >> what is justice to you? >> being fair. arresting this man and making him accountable for his actions. >> reporter: prosecutors say a missouri grand jury could begin hearing evidence in the case as soon as wednesday. the national guard will stay in ferguson in a limited role assisting other law enforcement in protecting people and businesses. unlike last night, there's not

going to be a curfew. live in the newsroom, abc 7 news. today marks one week since robin williams' stunning death and this afternoon fans in the bay area funny man will hold a moment of silence in his honor. a facebook campaign will hold a standing ovation for one minute at 1:00 today no matter where they are. san francisco locations include chrissy field, justin herman plaza and ocean beach, among others. williams sadly took his life at his home last week. he was suffering from depression and early stages of parkinson's disease. the family is reportedly planning a small private memorial with a public one to come later. if you would like more information on today's event we posted it for you on our website abc7news.com. and new this morning. pg&e pleaded not guilty to obstruction of justice and other felony charges in federal court today. follows a new indictment in connection with a deadly pipeline explosion in september

new this morning, new details involving the north bay slaughterhouse accused of selling meat from cows with cancer. abc news obtained a copy of the new federal indictment this morning in san francisco charging the rancho feeding slaughterhouse with 11 counts. the indictment claims the slaughterhouse process eddie seized cattle and fraudulent record keeping. we have reached out to rancho feeding corporation for comments and we are waiting to hear back. the company recalled 41,000 pounds of meat back in january saying it was not properly inspected. food trucks are one of the best ways to dine on a dime, but how sanitary are they compared

to regular restaurants? a study by the institute for justice finds food trucks in seven major cities are just as clean if not cleaner than brick and mortar restaurants. the study cites fewer food safety violations. food trucks must undergo the same health inspections as brick and mortar establishments. a new report out this morning finds the university of california system is expecting a record number of out of state college students this fall. the l.a. times forced more than a fifth of all freshmen are transferring from places like texas, washington, china, and india. most are headed to ucla, uc berkeley and uc san francisco. they insist no california residents are being pushed out to make room. they say out of state students pay $23,000 more in tuition providing an estimated $400 million in extra revenue. meteorologist mike nicco ahead with the forecast. >> good morning again from the top of the abc 7 news broadcast center. still getting a little bit of drizzle. temperatures up to 6 dreesz cooler than yesterday.

it wasn't even measurable. that's what we had. i'm starting to see a little bit of a clearing line behind me down around the san mateo bridge but still drizzle falling along the coast. let's take a look to see what it added up to with the lower elevation. around point ray and half-moon bay. but go into the berkeley hill and it's about 400 to 700. right now we're talking about winds, too. 17 miles per hour. fairfield, 12 at oakland, ten at concorde, 1 at sfo. that's that south see breeze bringing us the cooler weather and small craft advisory from noon to 9:00. same place last week. east of the golden gate, north of the bay bridge. you can see how slow the clouds have been to because of the stronger sun -- stronger marine layer. we've got the san jose cam. few areas are clear. look at golden gate. a little bit of drizzle. this is the way it looks

temperaturewise. we're still in the 50s san francisco and half-moon bay. 50s elsewhere. where we have the sunshine, antioch and livermore, low to mid 70s. 71 minutes, hour and 11 minute delays at sfo. cloudy again and more drizzle for tomorrow. warm up a little bit as we head towards the weekend. it's this low we watch dive down from deepen and moist nn t. marine layer and really kicked up the sea breeze. look what it's doing to our temperatures. below average. low 80s, loss galos and morgan hill. mid to upper 70s on the peninsula. only low to mid 60s along the coast and the downtown san francisco. up in the north bay, petaluma, 76. everybody else not as afted by that sea breeze. near 80 degrees. along the east bay shore you can see richmond and berkeley affected. low to mid 70s elsewhere. mid 80s to upper 80s inland east bay. so a little bit cooler than yesterday if you didn't need the air conditioner, today should be good. tomorrow is the same pattern. area of low pressure.
