he was a radical member of the ferries and went by the name of feather. if you have information contact police. the aunt of a 2-year-old girl killed by a hit and run driver faced a judge today. they pleaded guilty to child felony charges. he walked her into the middle and left her there. a driver with the green light hit the girl without stopping. the paternal great grandmother believes the aunt is at fault. >> she's as much to blame as the driver in the car. he did have a part in it, but it wasn't his fault. he didn't stop because he hit the child. but no, it was definitely the aunt's fault. had the child not been there, he or she would not be in the situation right now. the little girl's mother does not blame her sister and wants

her released from jail. bail is $50,000. two men discovered dead in adjacent backyards. we were over the scene as investigators try to determine why. the bodies were off carlotta circle. tiffany is live at the scene. >> reporter: the corny just arrived on the scene. officials will not call it a murder suicide, but they are not looking for any other suspects. yellow police tape is the only indication of turmoil. two men discovered shot to death in adjacent backyards. a 61-year-old found by his family last night t. other found this morning. he was in his late 30s or early 40s. he was the son of the couple who own the house and they are currently out of town. >> we don't know what the

relationships are between the deceased at this point. that is something we are working on at this point. >> reporter: sky 7 shows the crime scene separated only by a fence. the sheriff's department requested warrants to search both homes. late this afternoon, investigators combed through a white car at the curb. the landscaping crew working nearby, the deaths come as a surprise. many of them and all the neighbors we spoke with only heard one gunshot. >> i heard a gunshot around 1:00. >> just one? >> yeah. that's all i heard. >> there was a loud one, then a few seconds later, a second one. the second one wasn't as loud. i don't know if it was a gunshot or not. >> reporter: no one on the street has cause for concern. >> we have not identified a reason there should be fear or worries by the people who live in the area. >> reporter: for now, the

questions outnumber the answers. tiffany wilson, abc 7 news. robin williams was cremated. he committed suicide inside his home monday of last week. he struggled with depression, anxiety and drug addiction and was in the early stages of parkinsons disease. a fire may have been started by fireworks. the fire displaced 33 people including six children. it broke out about 10:45 last night. neighbors say they heard two large explosions before the fire broke out. police found the remnants of fireworks behind the building. >> two explosions and the next my house. after them, i saw the smoke go

up. one to two minutes. i saw the fire. up so strong. >> the fire caused $900,000 in damage to six apartments and two businesses. fortunately, nobody was hurt. less than a day the 49ers cut a workout short because of field conditions at levi stadium. workers removed the sod. you can see as crews tore out all the turf. they are replacing it with newer grass. player wrs slipping around and it could lead to serious injury. aaron says it is not unusual to pull up the sod in stadiums. >> during the season, they do replacements, it's not uncommon. far lot of large fields, they come in with a different type of soil profile. it's thicker, it's bigger.

they can secure it down so it doesn't move as much with the big guys pushing and pulling. it should be ready. >> there's always adjustment with new grass and stadiums. players said the field looked dry in some places and chunks of sod were clearly missing. we have a live look at levi stadi stadium. what's interesting is they have taken out the field. it's down to dirt. they are going to resod. they chose in april, this particular sod. the reason, at the time the grounds keeper said they chose it is because it has a faster recovery rate and stays greener longer into the season. supposedly had good strength. this is a quote from the grounds keeper. when a player plants his cleat, it holds together better. that's not the case from what we have seen from a soccer game and football game. the question going forward,

assuming they get it ready, it will be done by sunday, but are they going to go back to the same grass or try something different? they spent a couple years looking at various sod. we'll see what they do and keep you posted. >> the 49ers say, like you said, it will be ready for 49ers and chargers. >> sunday at 1:00, levi stadium. a woman is being fined by homeowners association for taking out her lawn even though that's what water agencies are asking people to do. >> they are giving people credits for replacing their grass with drought replacing plants. laura? >> reporter: hi, larry. the legislature is working on the issue with new law that is would prevent homeowners associations from fining people who do this. this homeowner, in the last couple months did what she thought was the right thing, replacing her lawn with drought

resistant landscaping that needs little water. >>itis a variety of mint. it stays low to the ground and will fill in the whole thing. >> reporter: she thought she was doing the right thing, gimpb the severity of the drought and the status of her water starved front lawn. >> not the rock area. everything else was covered in lawn. it was very old ant not in great shape. >> reporter: she approached the board of directors with plans that includedd mint. pea neez but no lawn. they wepted 25% grass. she appealed and ignored the request and went ahead with the landscaping. hoa is fining her $50 a month. a letter from the board quoted the front yard appearance will look better with some turf. >> since i did go ahead and do it, they imposed the $50 a month fine until such time as i complied with their request.

there's been an arrest and a fatal hit and run in san jose. they have 25-year-old chris fer uchucua in custody. the victim was 51-year-old sun wyn. he turned himself in yesterday. he faces multiple charges. >> authorities are looking for two suspects in the robbery of a san jose grandfather. the man did not want to be identified. he was standing outside his suv. two men approached him and demanded money. we pushed the would be robbers away and one fire add gun. he was hit by flying glass and was able to get back in the vehicle. his wife and two grand kids were inside. fortunately, they were not hurt.

san francisco police are looking for three people involved in a violent carjacking. this started around 9:20 this morning, broad daylight. the carjackers stole a red sedan at gunpoint. as police chased them, they tossed the handgun out the window along with drugs and money. they bailed out at 7th and howard street and got away. police are trying to find vandals terrorizing the safest shopping area. >> one incident is on surveillance video. >> matt has the story from the willow glen neighborhood. >> reporter: boarded up windows welcomes you. the assault on the ice cream shop came early wednesday. check out the surveillance video. before 1:54, something hits the glass door and it shatters. two minutes later, a second hit and another glass victim. the owner discovered the damage when he came to work wednesday

morning. >> it had been boarded up. police had come and gone and boarded it up. it's been done. >> this was found on the floor. they believe the vandals used a b.b. gun or paint gun to fire it. he's not the only recent vandalism victim. a table was thrown through a starbucks window. up lincoln avenue, a window smashed. the third window damaged over the past two years. one worker told me this is not that uncommon. david is hoping it doesn't happen again. >> i think it's kids wasting time and costing people money. you know, i would like to find out who it is. at this point, it costs us money. >> reporter: disappointing? >> pretty much. >> reporter: police responded. in san jose, matt keller, abc 7

news. the home hostage drama involving a woman's condo on air b & b. the two rented it for a month long stay but refused to leave when the lease was up on july 8th. they threatened to sue the landlord when she tried to evict them. it started a national debate. they vowed to do it again. the condo's owner, a bay area resident says she's not sure if she will rent it out again. the first of the abandoned cats and kittens left outside are now up for adoption. we brought you this story last week when someone was leaving large groups of felines in card board boxes outside the facility. staffers have been busy vaccinating, microchipping and spaying the cats.

>> we are enjoying pleasant weather. sunny skies all across the bay area right now. a few areas of coastal clouds. portions of the coastline are enjoying sunny skies at the moment. a look at blue skies. forecast features patchy low clouds tonight. we'll see cooler conditions at the coast tomorrow and a warmer pattern settles in for the weekend. here is a look at the cloud pattern. look at the swirling. the coastal eddie. it's served to pull clouds away from the coastline this afternoon, giving us sunny spots on the coast. that coastal eddie will disappear soon. notice overnight, we'll see clouds surging to the coast from the north-northwest giving us a cooler on shore breeze tomorrow. so, look for cooler conditions at the coast tomorrow. perhaps more clouds than we saw today. sunny inland and a few degrees

cooler inland tomorrow. meanwhile, let's focus our attention on the tropical waters of the pacific where we see two tropical systems, hurricane low el and tropical storm karina. it will contribute to a southerly swell of the pacific waters and the marine statement through sunday afternoon and evening is in effect for a southerly swell, stronger than usual currents and chaotic mixed swell, which means the swell will originate from various directions. that's important to keep in mind if you enjoy activity on or in the ocean waters. a note of caution there. overnight, look for some areas of clouds along the coast. maybe some patches of fog pushing locally. low temperatures range from upper 50s to around 60 degrees perhaps cooler in the north bay

abcs ""dancing with the stars" is adding a new judge. she made the announcement on good morning america. she left the show in 2009 to focus on acting and music. the new season of "dancing with the stars" starts september 15th here on abc 7. palo alto jeremy lynn hit the big time, not just because he's in the nba and makes millions of dollars a year. >> he's given an honor reserved for megastars. he's in the wax museum. >> we got to see his likeness at the attraction. he compared the arms and thumbs and gave it a thumbs up. it shows him dunking. it was taken from a game photo. he had to replicate the pose, which was not that easy.

later died in the hospital. consumer reports is advising pregnant women to avoid eating tuna. the concern is too much mercury. crews are cleaning up the stadium at levi arena. the sod was not safe for players. they are going to resod the entire field. the american doctor who survived ebola walked out of the hospital with lots of hugs. it was his first physical contact for those taking care of him. ama? >> doctors at emory university hospital say blood tess on that doctor and another american aid worker in contracted ebola show no sign of the virus. we have more. >> today is a miraculous day. >> reporter: dr. kent brantly and nancy writebol overcoming the odds.

>> i'm thrilled to be alive, to be well and to be reunited with my family. >> reporter: releaseed from emory university hospital in atlanta after three weeks of treatment. now both are ebola free. >> the medical staff here at emory is confident the discharge from the hospital of both of these patients pose poses no public health concern. >> reporter: they were infected last month while working in the ebola ward of this field hospital in liberia. >> i woke up feeling under the weather. then my life took an unexpected turn as i was diagnosed with ebola disease. >> reporter: they were giving an experimental drug, zmapp. so contagious, paramedics wore hazmat suits for protection. ebola claimed the lives of 1300 people in west africa. with the right care, 40% of patients survive.

writebol was discharged from the hospital on tuesday. >> my dear friend nancy writebol wanted me to share her gratitude for all the prayers on her behalf. as she walked out of her isolation room, all she could say was to god be the glory. >> reporter: it's not clear if the drug or the specialized care in the u.s. saved them. dr. brantly called his recovery the answer to thousands and thousands of prayers. >> today, two kentucky firefighters are in the hospital with serious burns after an ice bucket challenge went wrong. it happened this morning in campbecam campbellsvil campbellsville. the campbellsville police chief say the two firefighters in the bucket were hurt when they were lowering the ladder back on to the truck. >> it appears that in doing

that, the extended ladder apparatus came within what i would refer to as a threshold for electric energy that surrounds the high powered wires and an arc occurs. >> that's when the firefighters in the bucket were shocked. two firefighters on the ground were shocked. they were able to finish lowering the ladder. no students were hurt. pope francis called the family of james foley today to express their loss. abc news reporter, karen travers is has more. >> reporter: the mission to rescue james foley and other hostages in syria. >> the mission was executed flawlessly after a significant period of preparation, planning and rehearsal.

house. >> the agreements were ast nom cal like you are going to pay two or three times what the home is worth to keep it. >> reporter: she's been in her home since 1990. six years ago, she refinanced and her problems began. her mortgage has been bought and sold four times and payments tripled. >> it's for $1703 and it's for my loan modification. >> reporter: she is hoping the settlement between bank of america and the justice department of more than $16.5 billion will have a trickle down effect for homeowners like her. california will recover 300 million to reimburse the state pension fund. the state is guaranteed $500 million in consumer relief credit bringing to an end the sale of toxic mortgage securities by the bank and countrywide financial. >> it's an okay type of thing. there's a lot of skepticism

>> reporter: if you have been here, you have hurried through this. that irritating air travel known as the tsa line. did you get everything? >> we probably got 200 square feet of where this stuff is stored in the back. >> reporter: what's that? you left something behind at sfo? you will get to know mr. davis and thank him. >> you got computers? >> no. >> cameras? >> nope. >> this is the guy tsa hired to take care of stuff passengers leave behind at check points. today, they put it on display for reporters just to make a point, of 20,000 items left behind this year. people have claimed only 2500 of them. >> it's a burden on airports across the country. we have to catalog the items. we have to reunite them with all the passengers. we have to maintain it for a period of time. >> reporter: tsa keeps a tally of the items they have picked up

since january 1st of this year. 907 laptops, 235 pairs of sunglasses, 30 pair of shoes. 85 passports, 825 drivers licenses, 327 memory sticks. and a really cool hat. >> they are in a rush to get where they are going and leave their stuff. >> and their loved ones and more. >> wheelchairs, walkers. >> every time they come here, you know, that's the first thing we think. >> reporter: if you lost something at sfo, you have 30 days or so to claim it. the less valuable items go to landfills. more valuable, to tsa. eventually, they wipe the drive and sell them at auction. they don't hurry the process even though your hurry led to the mess in the first place.
