>> announcer: live from the kgo broadcast center, this is abc7 news. good morning, i'm katie marzulo, it's 8:00 a.m. on saturday, so glad you're with us, we'll start off with a quick look at the weather with meteorologist lisa argen. >> we're starting off with live doppler 7 hd, our sweep on top of mount st. helena this morning, check out this cool shot from the exploratorium camera, you can see the clouds and the sunlight trying to break through, it will, and we should have increasing sunshine in the city. 61 right now with sunny skies in san jose. it's 60 in gilroy. half moon bay, 59 degrees and we're looking at a temperature change of about three degrees in our inland valleys.

clear in concord. you're little bit cooler to start. four degrees cooler than yesterday in san carlos. by the end of the day, not much in the way of change. lots of mid and upper 80s in the inland valleys. warm day there with upper 60s, san francisco, and low 70s in oakland to the lower 80s around the bay. so the weekend is looking fairly typical. a warm-up is headed our way. i'll explain, when we come back. katie? >> thank you, lisa. breaking overnight. mountain view police confirming the person who was shot following a rap concert at shoreline amphitheater has died. authorities received multiple calls about the shooting just after 11:00 last night following a concert by wiz khalifa. the shooting happened backstage. police have a a description of one gunman and are asking for witnesses to come forward, namely anyone who might have video or pictures. in oakland, all lanes of southbound 880 are open following a fatal traffic

accident involving a motorcycle. the accident happened around 3:15 near the hagenberger off-ramp. chp officers closedal sou all southbound lanes, but they've been reopened. a trusted east bay educator is being held on $1 million bail, facing charges of child pornography. shocked parents and students trying to figure out what to do days before the start of the new school year. abc7 news reporter alyssa harrington has details. >> 58-year-old mitchell wolf was arrested friday morning. the internet crimes against children task force served a search warrant at his danville home. the diablo vista middle school teacher was booked on charges of pornography. >> we're shocked and saddened. >> terry koene, a spokesman for the san rafael valley unified school district said wolf's

computers were seized. he's been a math teacher since 2002. >> we have no reason to believe that any students are involved in the allegations. >> this 17-year-old had him as a teacher and a soccer coach. >> i'm going to hope for best for him. because it's a tough situation for him and his family. >> the principal alerted parents through email saying students and staff might be interviewed as the investigation moves forward. >> it's a teacher that we trusted and that we know nothing other than good things about. to not pass any judgment until we know more. >> wolf has been placed on administrative leave. a substitute will teach his class. the first day of school is monday. not the way koehne says they want to start the school year. but they're working to make it as normal as possible. in danville, alyssa harrington, abc7 news. the santa clara business that helps others finds itself in needs this morning as fire

investigators search for cause of a fire that sent donations up in smoke. abc7 news reporter sergio quintana has the latest. >> flames tore through a doe nag storage area for hope services, an agency that helps people with disabilities. this is cell phone video shot by a person who says people at a nearby mosque tried to make sure no one was in danger. >> everyone was kind of like scared because there's a children's playground here. we're trying to get the kids out a safe way from the parking lot. >> this was a single-a larm call. it took fire teams about 45 minutes to snuff it out. firefighters remained on scene for several hours. to make sure there were no flare-ups. right now fire investigators say they do not suspect any criminal activity. >> nothing that we would describe as suspicious, just under investigation right now. until we can determine a point of origin and a cause, but no indications of any criminal

activity or anything like that on scene. it was a normally reported fire. >> three delivery trucks were destroyed in the fire. you can see the burnt-out shells of the vehicles among the fire debris. a spokesperson for hope services says the trucks are an integral part of their operation. >> i think people are well aware of our trucks, that go around and collect discarded items. and then we collect them and then help put people to work who have disabilities, who might not otherwise have jobs. >> they're still trying to determine how their services will be affected by the fire. and they're relieved no one was hurt. in santa clara, sergio quintana, abc7 news. if you'd like to help hope services, we've put information on our website, abc7news.com. a three-alarm fire on mayor island kept fire crews busy yesterday afternoon. sky 7 hd was over the scene. the fire broke out around 3:00 in the recycling yard of the alcoa iron and metal company.

it sent up a plume of heavy black smoke, seen for miles. the fire was isolated to the scrap metal yard, no reports of injuries. a state senator says he takes responsibility for his actions. after he was arrested for d.u.i. in sacramento. 44-year-old ben huso, a democrat from san diego was pulled over early yesterday morning for going the wrong way down a one-way street. that's his mug shot on the right next to his official senate photo. this surveillance video shows the chp officer pulling him over and then giving him a field sobriety test. thursday night, another lawmaker posted this photo on twitter, showing hueso and several other lawmakers drinking inside the state capitol. students start back at san jose state monday. but something else is already there on campus. mold. staff says mold is spreading through the school of journalism and math communications building and some floors are started to buckle. the school's director tells our media partner, the "san jose

mercury news," the mold is mostly in the eastern half of the building, which has more offices than classrooms. classes are still scheduled to happen in the building this semester. concord police are asking people to be on the lookout for a car burglar. this is surveillance video from thursday morning that shows the suspect, walking up to the car on olive drive and opening the door without a key. the owner insists the car was locked. police believe the man is using a scanner box that mimics the signal of a key to be. the alarm didn't go off until the owner start the car yesterday morning. the department of homeland security issued a new warning about hackers stealing businesses credit card information. scan their systems for malware called back off. the first warning came last month when dhs warned companies most anti-virus software programs can't detect back off. analysts believe the malware is behind the recent attack on

u.p.s. and target. happening today, people who lyre at muir beach will rally against the service that wants to install weekend bus stops along highway 1. protesters say the highway is congested enough on the weekends, and say the bus stop will cause more traffic and environmental issues. the park service contends the stops will do just the opposite. protesters plan to demonstrate every saturday and sunday starting today. crews have replaced the sod at levi stadium ahead of tomorrow's preseason game and the new field may be temporary. sky 7 hd was overhead thursday as workers tore out the turf. and yesterday, they were seen putting it in the new grass. a key 49er executive is saying a permanent solution something studied. meaning this field may not last. either way, the turf trouble is not really a concern for coach har bbaugh harbaugh. >> we're refitting, regrouping,

retooling. a new field is going in. once again, it's our organization, we can count on them to always do things at the highest level. >> kickoff for tomorrow's game against the chargers is at 1:00. more evidence that the new field may be temporary. two high school games scheduled for the stadium's friday night lights event next week have been postponed. santa clara's wilcox high school and concord's delasalle high school will host games in october. happening now, psychists in menlo park are combining their love of the sport and community service. in the tour demenlo. cyclists have three routes to choose from along the peninsula, 35, 45 or 65-mile round trip. winding through cupertino, san carlos, mountain view, menlo park. all proceeds benefit rotary club scholarships and projects and the boys and girls club and second harvest food bank the the two longer races are under way now and the 35-mile race starts at 9:00 a.m. good luck to the cyclists, be

in ferguson, missouri, an extraordinary example of support will be on display tomorrow. that's when the families of oscar grant and trayvon martin will join the parents of michael browned a a rally for peace. the shooting deaths of grant and martin, unarmed black men sparked rallies across the nation. brown's death at the hands of a white police officer has led to violence in ferguson. brown's final will be held on monday. >> developing news in hawaii this morning, more than 100 firefighters are battling a brush fire that's forced the evacuation of 20 homes on the island of oahu. the fire is burning with 30-mile-per-hour winds fanning the flames. the fire is burning in a westerly direction, the north and east sides of the fire are under control. smoke from the fire can be seen for miles. fire officials have no estimate as to when they can have it contained. air conditioning in the middle of the desert. king-sized bed when most people

70s, with lots of sunshine. live doppler 7 hd looking very quiet. our sweep on top of mount st. helena. low clouds banked up along the coast, allowing for a typical weather pattern for the weekend. changes are in store for next week. here's a look at our tower camera what's left of the low cloud deck, 61 san carlos, sunny in san jose. low 60s for you, as well as gilroy, half moon bay, a mild start out there with temperatures in oakland. warmer at 63 degrees. santa cruz, still gray, upper 50s, santa rosa, 59 in novato. sunshine in the east bay from the delta, concord and livermore, and today warmingen through the mid and upper 80s. are you headed to the sierra nevada? plenty of sunshine today, western nevada in the low 80s. but you know it's going to get chilly at night. lows dropping off to near freezing by tonight. and in the days ahead. so for the rest of the bay area, we'll look for the spotty

drizzle. isolated from the coast. but otherwise we're on our way to more sunshine and a mild to warm day today. and tomorrow, with temperatures just a couple of degrees warmer inland. the set-up with temperatures near average, maybe a couple of degrees below average. but the changes come into play as a trough lifts out. as it lifts out, we'll get some warming behind it the timing on it, not until about tuesday is when you'll feel it in san jose today. low 80s and look for a little bump-up tomorrow and drop off to near 80. here's some warm-up coming into play with upper 80s by wednesday, thursday and friday. so that will be above average. elsewhere around the south bay, look for 81 santa clara. 79 in milpitas, on the peninsula. still gray, but by 3:00 this afternoon. you should reach 81 in redwood city. 65, half moon bay, upper 60s once again downtown. south city, 70. plenty of sun by the airport. 82 in calistoga with sonoma

topping out around 80. a little breezy around the bay and on our east bay, temperatures will be in the mid 70s for san leandro. 72 in berkeley. 80, castro valley and inland, more 80s from concord to san ramon to pleasanton. mid and upper 80s, pittsburg, antioch and brentwood. the seven-day forecast calls for temperatures to be near average, about today. and then a little bit warmer tomorrow, near 90 inland. 80 around the bay. by monday, our coolest day, by tuesday, we're behind the trough and the warming begins with low 90s inland. low 70s wednesday and thursday at the beaches. and very toasty in the inland east bay the we'll let you know how warm it's going to be in your community, by keeping track of bay area weather on twitter. we'll take some heat. well nasa has just released never before seen images showing more ice is melting in the arctic. it's one of the most visible

signs the earth is warming. the images show the ice covers about one million fewer square miles than it did in the 1970s. scientists say the ice is now thinner than ever. >> as the planet warms, the arctic warms about twice as fast as the rest of the planet. that's the primary driver. there's some other things, like the ice is now thinner than ever. so it's more susceptible to being blown around by wind, and other heat inputs like from the rivers around the arctic, which dump warm, fresh water into the ocean. >> scientists say less ice during the summer could have dramatic effects on weather patterns and climates around the world. and that is a space-x rocket self-destructing above the company's central texas test site yesterday afternoon. just moments after lift-off. the rocket was unmanned and no one on the ground was hurt.

space-x says the on-board computer detected a problem so it blew itself up. space-x's ceo, elon musk, who also created tesla motors, said the rocket terminated during test flight. no injuries or near injuries. rockets are tricky. up next, it's opening weekend for the movie about delasalle football team. what some of the first bay area moviegoers are saying about the new documentary.

outstanding. >> the movie also deals with the murder of one of the players. terrence kelly. as well as the head coach's recovery from a heart attack. a wild scene in melbourne, australia. >> the fire crew rescued a koala on thursday, after it was hit by a car and scrambled up a tree, injure and scared. the whole thing must have been too much for the marsupial, when it stopped breathing. that's when a wildlife worker performed cpr and mouth-to-mouth pres s resuscitation. the koala is recovering at a local animal hospital. much more ahead on the abc7 news saturday morning news -- california restaurants go to the dogs. the new law that lets pet owners dine with their pooches.

lisa? >> it is summer, for quite a while and we're looking at plenty of clouds from the exploratorium camera temperatures are on the mild side. in the 60s, sunny down the road at the airport and sunny inland. we'll be looking at increasing sunshine. so we'll look at the clouds banked up along the shoreline again for a cloudy day, half moon bay pacifica, sunny in san francisco. 68, mid and upper 80s return inland with some 70s on the east bay and low 80s towards san jose. so warmer weather is coming your way. i'll tell you when and how warm, when we return. >> new this morning, in his weekly address, president obama is urging congress to re-authorize the charter of the u.s. export inpormt bank to keep the economy humming. the president says last year u.s. businesses that sold their products abroad set an all-time record for exports. he adds the export/import bank's

brown signed into law a bill that allows canines on to the patio rather than outside the gate, outdoors at restaurants. >> we're very happy that now it allows us to be not looking over our shoulder and allowing dog lovers and folks with their pets to come to the patio and have fun. >> up until now it's been a gray area as to whether they were allowed within the dining area. >> lark creek, walnut creek prides itself on being pet-friendly. >> we get a lot of requests. i think it will be good for business for us. >> it seems, most diners we talked with didn't have much problem with letting fido in on the feeding frenzy. as long as their owners play by the rules. >> i'm fine with it. personally, you know, there's a lot more people that bring their dog out, and they want to be able to go to a restaurant and have outdoor dining. >> others have some concern. not about the law, but why the legislature felt the need to take up the issue in the first place. >> i don't understand why there

are laws being passed about things like this i think california might have some more important things to pass laws about. >> the new law takes effect january 1st. dogs will be allowed on the patio, only. not inside the restaurant and especially not in the kitchen. in walnut creek, abc7 news. >> mountain view based google is having to modify its latest self-driving car. the current prototype has no steering wheel, no brakes, no gas pedal. but that's going to change, because california's department of motor vehicles is requiring all self-driving cars to ininclude full human controls during testing. google plans to test the vehicle for the next couple of years. so it will be a while before you start seeing them on public roads. would you let someone follow you around and keep track of you every moment of the day? probably not. but that's exactly what we allow our smartphone apps to do. 50% of shoppers don't want to be

tracked, and 13% say they get too many messages and it bothers them to get offers for things they're not interested in. the biggest objection is over privacy issues. >> the app swarm keeps track of where you and your friends are. so you can meet up. social media is all over geolocation now. facebook has a feature called nearby friends. >> it will tell you exactly where your friends are, if they're traveling. where they are. and for how long. >> 7 on your side intern ingrid is showing me the app on her iphone. >> does it seem creepy to you? >> yes, definitely. i don't like using it. i never really use it or check my friends to see where they are think it's just creepy. and honestly, i don't really care. >> it isn't stalking, because everyone knows what's going on and has agreed to it. but there are some apps that are following you around. that you may have never thought about.

>> all of these applications have access to my location services. >> tyler cohen wood is showing me her smartphone and all the apps keeping track of her using geolocation. tyler is the author of "catching the catfishers" a book about online security. she's a senior officer and a cyberbranch chief for the french intelligence aeg. >> people need to read the terms of service of the applications they're using. they need to quickly look at the permission settings of the applications that they use. >> but even with that, she warns there is no absolute privacy online. >> even these anonymous applications, they're not anonymous, someone is going to know something and there's always going to be a digital bread crumb that's left behind. but the good news is is if you know that, if you understand that, you can take control over that and you can really start to control the image that you want for people to see. >> so, check your phone to see

which apps are following you around. and ask yourself -- do they really need to do that? if not, turn them off. unlast thought. geolocation eats up battery life. so turning it off gives you more talk and text time. >> i'm michael finney. seven on your side. >> milpitas is the first city to provide recycled water station force construction contractors in the south bay. the city's drought ordinance prohibits construction sites from using drinking water for things like dust control. milpitas public works has set up five recycled water fill stations throughout the city for that purpose. city officials say using recycled water at construction sites will save an estimated 25,000 gallons of drinking water a day. the department of parks, recreation and neighborhood services in san jose is offering a twist on the ice bucket challenge. that's where people dump ice water on their heads to raise money and awareness for lou gehrig's disease or als. in light of the drought, park services thought it would be a

encompassed in the cloud deck. this was a hurricane, lowell, now a tropical storm, increased the southerly swell in southern california. and hurricane marie continues to strengthen. right now it's at 65 miles per hour and we'll look for, that's 85 miles per hour and we'll look for us to increase slightly. weaker hurricane is corina at 80 miles per hour. this weakens, this strengthens, this continues to dissipate into a tropical depression in the days ahead. it means a strong southerly swell for southern california. the possibility of rip currents and locally looking at mixed swell here's in the bay area. so downtown los angeles, 81 degrees. 77? san diego, with low 90s. lake tahoe in the 70s, western nevada in the 80s and overnight lows near freezing. 68 in monterey. we'll look for temperatures around the bay to be quite

a rare all-white deer in connecticut has people doing a double-take. a woman spotted the snow-white creature in the woods near her back yard last weekend. she took some video of it to make sure people believed her. environmental experts say it's rare for a deer of this color to make the past the first three months of life. because white makes it an easy target for predators. even people in the area who would rather shoot a deer are willing to give this one a pass. yes, she's special. give her a pass. why not. yes. and the weekend looks pretty good out there. a little cool for some of you. but we're going to fix that into next week. 79 in fremont. it is getting sunny on the peninsula. upper 70s palo alto. 82 in san jose. with upper 80s in our warmest inland valleys. a little warmer inland tomorrow. we go cooler. here comes the beach weather. with warm to hot weather inland. tuesday, wednesday, thursday.
