we have the latest developments on the earthquake. the initial damage estimated can top $1 billion. 17 people were admitted to queen of the veal medical center. mostly injuries from falling debris or broken glass. this morning only 150 customers are without power down from 70,000. 30 buildings have been red tagged. >> our reporters are spread out throughout the hardest hit areas and now abc7 news reporter is in downtown napa that had the most severe damage. matt? >> a few of the workers told me they are still closed this morning and yellow tape is mocking off the sidewalk in front of the build with debris still on the sidewalk. the workers told me they are

waiting for an inspector and check out the homes and other areas they did not get to yesterday. the down area saw the most significant damage and a lot of protecten windows and shattered merchandise with mangled bricks and cracked masonry. the clean up is delaying the businesses from opening. one restaurant opened yesterday after cleaning up but they ran into issues. >> we are running out things because we lost things because of the earthquake and because of how many people we have had to serve. we are running out but we are making do. >> a few buildings have wreck tags so -- red tags mean they are unsafe. there are yellow tagged buildings mean youing can go in for a short period of time. of older structures were the main ones damaged.

water is another issue, 600 homes do not have water. if you lost water at any point during the time after the earthquake yesterday, you should use bottled water for drinking and cooking and boil your water, as well. schools in the napa valley school district are closed. the superintendent says faculty and staff will meet this only at the school and the district will decide by 1:00 o'clock p.m. which if any schools are closed tomorrow. napa valley college is open. the direct is not offering the normal child kay. >> gas lanes were cuptured causing mobile homes to explode. four were destroyed and six were damaged. it was terrifying, they say. water mains were broken. pg&e command center is at the napa airport which took a big damage hit and who are at

on tennessee street this are five stores with chattered withs and the earthquake only hit one side of the street. there was in damage to the business on the other side. employees at a grocery store had a lot cleaning and hundreds of items were thrown off the shelves. there were 16 water main breaks and minor gas leaks and power outages and three incidents of looting. that is why police have extra patrols out. so far today, 41 structures have been damaged and an estimated we $5 million in total damage. mostly injuries from the earthquake have been minor which is a surprise give the size of the evening. >> 208 and three staff were treated at queen of the valley medical center in napa yesterday, a 13-year-old hurt

others have been red tagged. the area needs to be cleaned up. it will be a slow process. >> pg&e has been working around the clock since hitting 24 hours ago. the utility command center is located at the napa county airport. our reporter is on the scene. the crews have been busy from pg&e restoring power. as amy hollyfield pointed out downtown napa has the power. the airport, though, is to the eat of the epicenter. when the ground was shaking, so did the criminal tower. the glass shattered at 9 control tower and now pilots flying in to the airport must operate using visual flight rules. the f.a.a. ordered new glass but

it has to be custom-made. residents do not have to wait for the power because most of the 70,000 customers now have power. here is the pg&e spokesman. only 20 buildings did not have gas service and when that is assessed whether it can be restoreed we will have those taken care of. we will do courtesy checks if our customers in the backed area to see if they have leaks. pg&e says they will send out crews to check for gas looks. they will help customers would may have shut off their gas lines re-light any pilot lights. pg&e says they have reherred or practiced for this event all year and it paid off.
