>> moments from collapse. right now. crews in vallejo delicately are dismantling a damaged church brick by brick. >> streets were closed off. people told the stay away. the affects of the 4ful napa earthquake present as those affected pick up the pieces. good evening. >> tonight we are getting a clearer picture of just how destructive the quake was. >> here's what we know. inspectors have now red tagged 70 buildings in napa as too dangerous to enter. more than 200 others have yellow taking. >> cal-trans will receive two million dollars in federal funds to repair road damage. the quake cussed roads to crac crack. pavement to buckle and put stress on bridge joints. >> public work craw still trying to repair roughly 80 water license break. will take few more day before water service is restored to the entire city of napa. >> vallejo also hit very hard. 10 buildings were red tagged by inspectors there today. 34 were yellow tagged. >> we have team coverage tonight. >> we begin with lillian kim

outside the vallejo church where the bell tower is dangerously close to coming down. lillian? >> at the time church sits right along busy highway 29. so it's not a surprise that -- brick by brick piece by piece the old bell tower slowly came apart. the pastor of first baptist church vallejo alerted the city as soon as church staff noticed significant crack this morning. a crew was hired to dismantle the top portion of the tower before it could collapse on its own. >> the top leaning coming apart and a wind could blow it over. we actually rocked it with our hand. it was >>reporter: the . >>reporter: the city officials say virginialy oh, sustained about 5 million dollars in earthquake damage. security video show just how violate the shaking was sunday morning. much of the damage is in downtown vallejo. post office near city hall has been red tagged. so is the old department store building. the roof collapsed. huge set back

for vallejo struggling downtow downtown. >> it's a shame. they have put a lot of work trying thedowntowo into that. it was absolutely gorgeous inside. >>reporter: as for the church in vallejo it should rae open not too long after the crew finish the job. retrofitted in the 90's. members of the congregation say it's sad watching pieces come down bu pit fine. >> i remember going up there with my dad. this is cool like a castle. so the just a great childhood memory for me. >> building is only a be. it's in the church. church is the members of that building. >>reporter: that was lil why demonstration reporting. first quantityed methodist church of napa members met with struck kurlger to discuss the damage building. facade has pulled away from the main structure so red tagged. nobody can can entr about. most of the rest of the

church okay to use except the heavily damaged office area this was a day for people in wine country to get the bearings. assess the damage and start to prioritize theity jobs ahead. i was in napa all day reporting live talking about people about what needs to be done to get everyone back on their feet as quickly as possible. brick were still coming loose where i was standing at third and brown. this giant piece of masonry weighed 50 to 60 pounds. that entire block in the old courthouse across the street just not safe and needs maiming repair. damage tips to agree in downtown napa in that area tonight which is the hardest hit by the quake. cornell is live in downtown napa with details. cornell sf. >> still a lot of rubble like this all over the streets of downtown napa but starting tonight the city will begin fencing off much of the downtown area so heavy machinery cap start hauling away much of the debris from the quake like all of the brick from this historic building. this place was red tagged and

that number is growing tonight. keith is napa building inspector touring do you want quake damage and making some of the toughest choices of his career. >> all we are doing is looking at the most dangerous thing that we can see to make sure they are safe and if they are not then we red taking them. >>reporter: damage epic. facade of gold rush era building crumble in the quake. victorian homes slid off the foundation. and dozens of brick name chicago crashing down. this one on top of a honda. >> we have red tagged a total of 70 structures. that's combination of commercial andlsg cln-commercial officials big clean up progressing at this restaurant where 50,000 dollars worth of wean bottles and fad were destroyed. he wants to reopen the eatery but can't. it has been yellow tagged because of debris still falling off the building. >> closed for more than a day and definitely hurts our best. don't have a cash flow can't run a business.

>>reporter: restaurant across the street in better shape. reopened tonight. no gas but thief wood fire pizza oven. the dumpster appearing around neighborhoods for earthquake debris. big screen tv topple during the quake being left at the drop-off site once worth thousands of dollars now not worth anything. new foot bridge downtown was damaged. it's closed. as businesses clean up, the mayor is calling on assistance from femur 8. as soon as we get fema set up and small business loans and all the kind of things that these people are going to need to get started, they are a little bit in limbo would right now. >>reporter: and the mayor hopes federal assistance comes soon. the city says the number of red taking buildings is expected day and in the day and week to come. fate of the historic building like this one still unknown. won't be known until structural engineers can get in and assess the damage but rate now just too dangerous live in downtown napa tonight, abc 7 news. >> thank you cornell.

>> there has beenf a stream of im ang showing the earthquake destruction in napa but the first drone video we see. shot sunday after the earthquake in the downtown area of nap a.many of these buildings like the firs church old courthouse already filmed and shown on air including our own but of course not from this angle. boys and girls club opening the doors to any student who needs a place to good tomorrow. napa valley unified school district cancelled classes again.so any parent who wants to drop-off the kids can do so at the courthouse between 7:30 am and 6:00 p.m. you don't have to be a member. >> 13-year-old honor student suffered the worst injuries in the napa earthquake. nicholas dillon recovering from major surgery at uc davis medical center in sacramento. this is a picture of the family brickacp of him. sergio is live in napa with the latest. how is he doing sergio? >>reporter: he is improving. we spent a good part of the

afternoon with his family. they have explained to me that flt dock authorizes to use surgical screw and police to help rae pair a lieutenant of the injuries to his pelvis but as i mention he's improving this afternoon. he was upgraded from critical condition to serious condition. this is what is left of the fireplace inside nicholas dillon home sheared off and fell on him causing serious injuries to his pelvis. his friend was there for asleep over and saw what happened. >> he turned to my right and i see is the the chimney and brick. >>reporter: nicholas family says he was sleeping on a mattress on the floor. you can see it under the wall of brick that fell on him. his aunt says he's recovering from a 9 hour surgery. >> it was very frightening to know what he was going into in terms of the surgery but because if calm and comforting he felt like everything was fine. >>reporter: brick and mortar
