live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> sky 7 is live over napa county where you can see at the napa airport, workers are racing to repair the shattered glass in the tower from the powerful 6.0 magnitude earthquake that disabled the control tower. the damage to the region is extensive. the economy depend on tourism so much is working fast to get back to business. thank force joining us. most of the schools in napa re-opened for the first time. they were inspected first to make sure they were safe. there was an earthquake drill at

an elementary school to kick things off. amy hollyfield joins us in napa high school with more. the students are back. authorities believe that the buildings are safe. however, rather than asking the kids today to listen to their teachers, they are letting them talk. >> students headed back to napa high school saying they are glad to see their friends, ready to get back to routine. some are feeling anxious. >> i'm fought ready to learn and be focused. just worried a little. >> administration figured that would be the case so rather than getting back-to-backs they decided to let the students talk about the earthquake. >> we wanted to meet the emotional needs of the students first. >> each told the class their earthquake story. >> it started shaking and it felt, we all ran under a door but we could hear glass breaking

and the house smelled like vinegar. >> students can and teacher say it was near futuric. >> i was moved at 9 compassion and no one made jokes. >> the administration thought of holding an earthquake drill today to help ease the student fears but they realized that students needed more than just practicing evacuations. >> we know the drill and are prepared. to do another drill we set everyone in motion and got were charged but we didn't feel a need for the drill. >> students say talking was better and they now fell a new pond with their classmates. >> we are all connected some highway and are there for each other. they did review what to do in the case of an earthquake and the literature teacher will have students read jack london's

francisco bay. the pine galaxy commercial tugboats and the coast guard guided the tanker into to port of san francisco this morning. a fire broke out in the machinery shop in the engine room early this month when it was 700 miles from the oregon coast. a crew member died trying to fight the fire. he was buried at sea. hurricane marie is would peopling dangerous surf along the california coast. waves up to 15' have been crashing down on southern california since yesterday. the storm is 800 miles away from the pacific. this morning, surfing learn end hamilton help lifeguards bring a swimmer on shore. there is this word on the swimmer's condition, the 10th distress call in 24 hours. one surf are died after being pulled from the water unconscious. lifeguards are putting out the warping but it did not keep a surfer out of the water.

back over napa, this is the county airport tower with the glass windows that were shattered by the 6.0 magnitude earthquake at 3:20 in the morning rendering the control tower unusable and until that place is fixed, it is not safe for anyone to use. the pilots are getting take off and landing clearances from the oakland from and they are being required to communicate with

each other to make sure that everyone lands and takes off safely so we will until this through our newscast today. a man was injured after two groups exchanged gunfire in downtown san francisco. according to the chronicle it happened before 8:00 last night near 5th and market. a man was hit by gunfire. he ran into the west field mall and later taken to the hospital. in word on his condition. in arrests have been made. a military jet based from massachusetts has crashed in western virginia. so far there is in word on condition of the pilot. it happened before 9:00 a.m. eastern time. witnesses reported hearing a loud noise that sounded like an explosion with heavy smoke seen coming from the side of the mount family. in word on the cause. a troubling story from arizona. a fin-year-old girl accidentally shot and killed an instructor at a gun range. it was caught on camera. we will not show you the whole video. the accident happened while the

covering the south bay pleasanton and all the bay area, this is abc7 news. >> with soccer starting, a class action lawsuit was filed to prevent concussions filed in federal court in northern california claiming that soccer's international governing body has been technology -- negligent monitoring head injuries. the plaintiffs are not after money. they want rule changes including limits on how many times a game children can "head" the ball and accomplish substitution to check for head injuries.

compared to what we should be this time of year with the layer of clouds, marine layer of clouds over-the-top. from emeryville you can see beautiful sunshine and we will tab about what is beginning on temperature-wise running 67 in san francisco and 6 at half moon bay and 62 at san rafael and 65 in scrows and a lot of home 70's and los gatos at 80 and upper 70's in livermore and antioch and fairfield and young in san ramon, a warm spot. you can see how clear it is other than the then layer of cloud cover and because we get a lot of sunshine today, tomorrow and friday it will be our warmest day, clouds mostly at the coast at night and this morning we will have late arriving clouds that do not make it past 9:00 or 10:00 and we will be warm. for the weekend we will have our only affect from hurricane marie, just money level clouds that do not bring us rain and we will push this area of hire pressure out of the way. low-to-mid 80's the south bay but low-to-mid 90 gilroy and
