the beginning of a comeback, a progress check on efforts to rebuilds after the napa earthquake and a sign that more help is needed. i'm ama daetz. thank you for joining us for this early edition of abc7 news because of college football. we do begin with developing news in the effort to rebuilds after the napa earthquake. on this first weekend after the quake, tourists are seeing the sites as some businesses begin to rebound. we're live in napa with how things are looking there nearly a week later. reporter: i'm outside the westin napa because the stanly cup trophy will be here, and people are being encouraged to see it, leave a donation and the l.a. kings will match the donation total money will be given to earthquake victims. it's saturday of labor die weekend and people at the city are hard at work making repairs and fixes homes. >> i was concerned on my way down here, see what it was going to be like. i already think you came out of it pretty good.

south san francisco. the u.s. coast guard says the three men broke through a fence in palisades park that runs along the cliff near daly city. a rescue team found all three victims 300 feet below on the beach. the two survivors were airlifted to emergency crews at a landing point, treated, then rushed to the hospital. the third person was dead by the time rescue crews got to him. san jose firefighters now have control over a grass fire on north 7th and jackson streets. the fire looks like this a few minutes ago in this few from the roach of our sought bay bureau. it was first reported at 3:30 p.m. firefighters contained it just a few moments ago. i threatened some buildings. one person suffered smoke inhalation and a firefighter suffered minor injuries in a two-alarm fire in san francisco. the fire broke out in this building just before noon. a witness videotaped the flames on her cell phone. this is video from our sutro

tower camera. you can see the smoke billowing into the air. firefighters arrived to find several people on the fire escape. they were rescued, as well as one man from his second story window. his apartment was right next to the one burning. >> getting ready, really hot. and it got to the point where i had to say, even if i get burned a little bit, i need too get on this ladder and get out of this apartment because the smoke was starting to get heavier in my unit. >> the red cross is on scene to helicopter residents displaced by the fire. new video in today of a cement truck accident that shut down all westbound lanes of highway 4 in antioch. the chp says the truck overturned while trying to stop at the scene of another accident. happened just after 7:30 this morning on westbound highway four near contra loma boulevard. the truck driver was not hurt. the lanes were shut down for five hours. a quick traffic reminder for

$25 billion itself. was built in 1925. the developer hopes to re-open the building by spring of 2016. right now the plans call for retail shops to occupy the first floor. san francisco 49ers linebacker alden smith is apologizing following a nine-game suspension from the nfl for a series of off-field legal issues. smith said, quote, over the last year i learned a lot and i'm working hard to go from my experiences. i'll be at work daily to are participate in all allowed activities and support my teammates just as they supported me. he was suspended for violating the league's policy on personal conduct and substance abuse. he missed five games last year to undergo treatment after a dui arrest. and pleaded not get to gun charges. recently he was arrested but never charged for allegedly making a bomb threat at lax

in the search. california could become the first state to ban the use of single sale plastic bags. they were prohibited in 2016 and convenience stores in 2016. on the governor's desk the measure includes $2 million in loans to help manufacturers shift to producing reusable bags and allows grocers to charge ten cents. there are 100 california local jurisdictions that already have a similar plastic bag ban. at the state capitol, governor jerry brown filed an appeal of a court ruling that struck down tenure and other job protections for the state's teachers. california school's chief sought the appeal. he was named in a lawsuit brought by nine students that argue california's hiring and firing rules saddled schools with bad teachers who effectively couldn't be fired. the worst drought in a generation has pushed state lawmakers to look at the policy.
