making news in america this morning, severe weather. a holiday soaker streaking across the country bringing dangerous lightning, rain and heavy flooding. where it's heading. tracking i.s.i.s. still on the move while washington debates what to do. we're live with the warning from lawmakers. and the american embassy now seized where an islamist militant group held a pool party. developing overnight, passengers on a carnival ride, thrown to the ground from several feet in the air. pictures just in, and new details from witnesses. and celebrity scandal. a hacker is claiming to have posted explicit pictures of hollywood a-listers. who's admitting the images are real and who isn't?

and a very good monday morning to you. we begin with the wild weather wreaking havoc on labor day weekend celebrations. >> more than 40 million americans found themselves in the storm zone yesterday all across the eastern u.s. and today, round two. already moving across parts of the midwest and the plains. torrential rain, thunder and lightning interrupted concerts and sporting events in the northeast, even stopping play at the u.s. open. dozens of flights delayed or cancelled from washington to philadelphia to new york. in new york city, three men were struck by lightning at a beach in the bronx. it was a bolt that left many others visibly shaken. >> it was really loud, like just boom. like a bomb blew up. >> you can see an explosion. >> another person struck by lightning in denison, iowa,

which was also slammed with flooding rains that overwhelmed a two-acre farm retention dam. and the southeast, millions are cleaning up after damage to homes and cars. >> we've got enough damage here, you can't have anything in your garage. >> the severe weather also put a damper on the start of the college football season. the florida gators/idaho game was not just delayed, it was postponed to another day because of dangerous lightning. fans sat and waited for nearly three hours before officials sent them all home. and millions are bracing for another day of severe weather this labor day. >> round two of this wild weather is moving across the center of the country. accuweather meteorologist jim dickey has the latest. >> good morning. happy labor day, keeping it hot from the south to the southwest and the southeast. many spots, 90s, triple digits, a couple storms along the gulf coast. heavy storms with a strong cold

front across the plains and the midwest. some severe. not the tornado threat like yesterday with the same system. watching from detroit to topeka, kansas, firing late, gusty winds, potentially damaging winds, large hail, torrential rain that could lead to flooding. back to you. >> thank you for that. now the other major story we are following. president obama facing growing pressure over the dangerous threat from i.s.i.s. fighters in iraq and syria. >> we are joined now from washington with more. good morning. >> good morning, brandy and dan. lawmakers want decisive action, fearing i.s.i.s. militants could set their sights on the u.s. this morning, growing calls for action against i.s.i.s. there are concerns about potential plots against the u.s. including the u.s. by islamic radicals. u.s. air strikes continued this weekend in iraq. fighter jets and drones taking aim at targets. i.s.i.s. fighters have taken over large parts of iraq and syria. iraqi security forces broke up a six-week long siege by the group

in northern iraq. the question is, will the u.s. expand the air strikes? lawmakers on both sides of the aisle say the president needs to confront these radicals. >> we are now facing the largest, most powerful, wealthiest terrorist organization in history. and it's going require some very strong measures to defeat them. >> this is a vicious, vicious movement, and it has to be confronted. >> reporter: great britain increased the threat level last week. the threat level has not changed in the u.s., but some believe i.s.i.s. is a direct threat and the longer it takes for action, the more dangerous this group becomes. >> these groups, they don't need any excuse. they will attack whenever they can. i believe that i.s.i.s. does plan on attacking the united states. >> reporter: u.s. intelligence says more than 100 americans have joined the isis ranks. they have passports, and the

fear is they could get back into the country. >> thank you. members of an islamic militia group in libya appear to have taken over part of the u.s. embassy in tripoli. they are seen in the video dyeing into the compound pool. the u.s. evacuated a month ago because of the danger of warring factions. on twitter, the u.s. ambassador said it appears the embassy building is still guarded and has not been ransacked. russian president vladimir putin is calling on ukraine to talk about the crisis in the eastern part of the country. he said the talks should not be about technical,but what he called the political organization of society and possible statehood for eastern ukraine. ukrainian forces have faced several tough battles against newly-strengthened rebel forces. here at home, a developing story overnight. two people injured after falling off a carnival ride in texas. lis in el paso say the victims,

a teenaged girl and boy fell about 30 feet. they were not wearing safety belts. >> i heard a loud thump and a lot of screaming. i wasn't looking directly at it. when i did, i saw a body on the floor that was motionless. and there was a body that was barely moving. >> the young woman was seriously hurt, the fire department was called in to rescue one child stuck on the ride. some frightening moments for passengers aboard an allegient flight from grand rapids to orlando. the pilot had to make an emergency landing in greenville, south carolina. the plane started having problems, cabin pressure two hours into the flight. the crew had to assist with oxygen masks and safety belts, but no reports of injuries. joan river's daughter melissa says they are keeping their fingers crossed. the 81-year-old comedian remains in serious condition at a manhattan hospital where doctors have her sedated. rivers has been unconscious since thursday morning when she was rushed to the hospital after reportedly going into cardiac

arrest during a procedure. zblanchts federal judge has temporarily blocked a restrictive new abortion law set to take place in louisiana. it requires doctors to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital. right now only one doctor in the state has such privileges. abortion rights activists say the judges' order will give the rest of the doctors more time to apply for their admitting privileges. the man trying to become the nfl's first openly gay player is without a team this morning. the st. louis rams released michael sam over the weekend, saying it was a football decision and had nothing to do with homosexuality. he can join any team's practice including the rams if he wants to. coming up, move over black friday, why labor day is the best day to find deep discounts. also back on the tracks. tony stewart racing for the first time since he fatally struck a driver.

the oefders. first offense is a six game suspension, a second, a lifetime ban. a plane crash north of denver. sputt sputtering and a plane went down. it was close to the runway. they are looking into what caused this crash. the coast guard has suspended the search for the pilot of a small plane who lost consciousness and then crashed into the atlantic ocean. the plane left wisconsin on saturday, heading for virginia. when the pilot stopped responding to radio calls, two f-16 fighter jets were scrambled. a civilian boater found parts of the plane, but no sign of the pilot. what started as a day of pleasure boating ended with an emergency rescue. a 30-foot boat with five people, 17 miles off the coast of san diego and lost power and started taking on water. they were able to radio the
