the liquor store as well. i talked with the employee inside who was there when it happened last night around 7:00. he says the teen is a regular customer. that he had bought candy. and it was when he went outside that two boys were waiting for him. police have not offered any details about who they arrested. 14-year-old rashawn williams was with his younger brother, leaving ruben's market in the mission district when someone stabbed him. family members say the younger brother ran for their mother, who took rashawn to the hospital. he did not survive. >> i'm tore up. i'm broken up right now. >> reporter: rashawn's uncle says he was like a son to him. he shared these pictures with us, so proud of the young man with a 4.0 grade point average. he was also about to play his first season on the football team at sacred heart. >> he was part of our family. everyone knew him and knew of him. as a family member kind of us to. we bring everyone in. that's kind of the way we do with our football program.

it was really sad to hear what happened. >> reporter: his cousin describes the moment he found out what happened. >> it was hard. i felt a pain that i can't explain through my body when he dad called me. >> reporter: jamar says rashawn was his favorite little cousin, and everyone we talked with says he was smart, funny, and had a very bright future. >> he was a good kid. i didn't see him having no problems with anybody. >> reporter: police have not revealed a possible motive in the killing, but rashawn's uncle and others say there was a boy who had been threatening him on social media. in san francisco, abc 7 news. and the school tweeted out this message today. today we mourn the tragic loss of one of our brothers and friends, a member of the class of 2018. may christ's love and peace be with his family. pittsburgh police have arrested a second person involved in the hit-and-run death of a woman walking her dog sunday night. police arrested 29-year-old jorge perez last night and arrested his 24-year-old brother raoul munoz hours ago.

surveillance video shows a truck jumping the curb on willow pass road before hitting and killing 50-year-old michelle braz. investigators aren't sure if alcohol was involved since the incident happened days before the suspect's arrest. >> i felt more at ease because this person is off the streets and it will be less likely for him to harm anyone else. >> reporter: people are still gathering at a memorial for braz to pay their condolences. officers recovered the vehicle in the bakersfield area. a bay area man who has been running an unregulated massage business for 30 years has been arrested for sexual battery. he is 66 years old. he told police in east pal o alo that he helps people out of his home. police are looking for possible victims. they are asked to contact the east palo alto police

department. a woman tired of all the illegal parkers near her business decided to jump into action when she saw another parking law breaker today. she really had no idea what she was getting into. tiffany wilson is joining us live with the story of an unsuspecting crime sleuth. hi, tiffany. >> reporter: well, it all started off with patty, who was fed up and frustrated with people parking in red zones like this right in front of her store. so this morning when a minivan pulled into that space, she didn't hesitate to pull out her phone and start taking pictures. >> you can see they were in the red zone. >> yes. >> reporter: call her the red zone watch dog. when she saw a van pull into the space in front of her store this morning, she whipped out her camera. >> the license plate wasn't a license plate. it was just like a white paper, and it said "wow" in blue writing. >> reporter: it wasn't just a couple of guys running in to grab coffee either. about a minute later, two men wearing hoodies and gloves burst

out of david's jewelry store. >> they rushed into the minivan. i was just taking pictures contrstacont constantly. >> reporter: one picture captures the driver behind the wheel, the van pulling away, and paper covering the back license plate. here you thought you were going to catch somebody for parking in the red zone. >> yes. i thought that's what i was doing. but now, it was a robbery happening. spooky. >> reporter: police called in backup and a helicopter. nearby schools went on lock down. >> there was at least one handgun. of the two suspects, only one showed. we don't know if there was another handgun involved. >> it seemed like they just came in and rushed out of the minivan and ran into david's and ran back out. it was quick. >> reporter: this van was later recovered, but the robbers are still on the loose. >> i was trying to remember another time in recent history where we've had a takeover robbery of a store.

>> reporter: although two store employees were scared and badly shaken, no one was injured. david's jewelry plans to reopen tomorrow. >> i'm thankful that i had the phone next to me, and i'm very thankful that everyone just responded really quick. i feel maybe i was there for a reason. >> reporter: with patty's pictures, police are confident they can solve this crime. in st. helena, tiffany wilson, abc 7 news. there was another aftershock from the napa earthquake 10 days ago. this was a magnitude 2.7. it hit overnight at 3:18 in the morning. meanwhile, there is more evidence of the power behind the 6.0 quake on the 24th. as you can see, the double yellow lines on highway 12 near cutting spore road shifted more than a foot. look at that. of course, so did the earth beneath them. that's why this happened. pg&e crews in napa are working to excavate a massive gas line. it passes right through the epicenter of the napa earthquake. crews began to work last week when they realized it was on a fault.

classes at stonebridge school just began again yesterday. school officials say they were concerned about the safety of students. >> we're not taking this lightly by any means. we really are just staying real close communication with pg&e. and just talking about what the future looks like, if it makes sense to replace a line here, are there other alternatives to be pursuing. we are just open to that >> keep in mind there's no gas in the 26-inch main right now. pg&e says they found no leaks, but wanted to dig the pipe up as a precaution. if they find an area that is weak or warped, they will replace it. a bus driver is recovering tonight after she was assaulted by a passenger. police took this man, who has not been identified, into custody this afternoon. according to officials, the man threw rocks through an open window on the bus which hit the driver in the head. happened on the 38 l line near 17th avenue and gariy boulevard.

>> i saw something that you would pretty much see in the olden days. it's very sad what i just saw. a man came up and assaulted a government official, which is the bus driver. and i'm really shocked that this stuff still exists to this day. >> the driver was treated at the scene. the paramedics rinsed her eyes and then she was taken to the hospital to recover. san francisco police had to keep a close eye on a union pacific railroad crossing after a vehicle snapped the crossing arm off around noon today. a witness tells abc 7 news that a city-owned vehicle was traveling along gerald avenue and then sped up to beat oncoming train. the truck got through, but hit the crossing arm that was coming down to block the traffic. >> the train stopped halfway, and then the engineer got out and removed the thing from the middle of the track. threw it to the side. got back on the train and moved the train. and i think the people here from the central shops called the police. >> the truck apparently stopped for a few seconds and then took

off. police are still looking for the vehicle and the driver. officers blocked traffic along gerald for several hours until the crossing arm could be ficked. animal control is warning people to keep their cats and small dogs inside at night because of a sharp increase of the number of coyote sightings in the area possibly because of the drought. the wild canines are coming to urban areas to hunt for food. evidence of paw prints were found on the back deck of one pal troy polamapa palo alto home. >> about one a day, one cat a day. as the food sources are becoming less plentiful in the hills, they are coming down to find food. >> coyotes are nocturnal. keeping pets inside at night should keep them safe. well, the $5 billion decision.

about 750 houses are threatened. the move comes after the fire grew by about eight square miles overnight and burned through about 112 square miles as of this morning. the weather conditions are not helping firefighters. forecasters are calling for another day of gusty winds that could push the fire over containment lines and into threatened communities. tesla motors has chosen nevada to house its $5 billion factory. several states competed for the electric car maker's new battery plant, which could generate 6,500 jobs. the ceo says the winner would shoulder 10% of the factory's total costs, which means $5 million in economic incentives. senator dianne feinstein spoke with musk this morning and seemed a little surprised, frankly, by the decision when we caught up with her this afternoon. >> i'll have to find out exactly what happened, because i spoke to the governor about it and i know he put a special effort into it. and i thought they had some good proposals to make. >> california's legislature

adjourned last weekend without acting on a bill that could have delivered that kind of package. lawmakers said no legislative action would be taken before reaching an agreement with tesla. an official announcement is expected tomorrow. pg&e is laying the groundwork to appeal a $1.4 billion fine in connection with a pipeline explosion. the utility filed paper work today indicating plans to file an appeal within 30 days. a pg&e spokesman says it wants regulators to take into consideration the nearly $3 billion pg&e has spent or will spend on pipeline safety improvements. regulatory officials issued the fine yesterday, accusing pg&e of 3,800 violations over several years. you know, it's something we expect to happen in winter, especially during a storm. but arborists say the phenomenon of treeing dropping their limbs is more prevalent in the summer. and we've seen a couple of really tricky and dangerous examples just this week in the east bay. laura anthony is live in concord

tonight. laura, is this drought related? >> reporter: well, dan, that's one thing the experts don't know at this point. it's an issue that hasn't really been studied all that much, but it is happening all over the east bay this summer. especially after a heat wave. now this is a case here in concord. the opener tells me this tree, a limb from the tree, is from a tree that's hundreds of years old. and it's unclear why it would fall now. >> i heard a bunch of cracking. and i couldn't figure out what it was. >> reporter: concord's liz taylor says she thought it was another earthquake. that noise her giant oak made when it dropped a huge limb squarely in the middle of her backyard. >> a friend came to look at it. and i said, a branch has fallen off the tree. and he says, oh, no, that does not describe the situation. this is bigger than most trees. >> reporter: this expensive barbecue also took a direct hit this week at a home in walnut creek. the culprit, also an oak limb.

and that's good. going on in the mobile phone space. and some consumers are finding themselves in the sweet spot to get a sweet deal. sprint is cutting the costs for the prepaid service and doubling the data available in an effort to keep customers from switching over to t-mobile. new and existing boot mobile customers can get prepaid plans with unlimited calling and texting as well as one gigabyte as data for just $35 a month. there is a big change occurring at cvs stores. the chain pharmacy has stopped selling tobacco products in all of its stores today. that is nearly a month sooner than planned. health advocates applaud the move and hope it will be followed by other drug stores. now the chain has 7700 retail locations and is the second largest drug store chain behind walgreens. the american pharmacists association called on drug stores to stop selling tobacco back in 2010. now several independent stores
