of southern california where a rap a piedly-moving brushfire has lead to the mandatory evacuation of dozens of homes. the silverado fire started in the cleveland national forest in orange county at 10:30. >> and it exploded in size within hours and spreading to more than 1600 acres. smoke is visible throughout southern california. the fire is being fueled by steep, hard to reach terrain and tinder dry brush. >> two water dropping helicopters have been brought in to douse the flames from the air. more helicopters and planes are on order and are expected to join the firefight overnight. stay with abc7 news. we will bring you updates on twitter at abc7 news bay area. good evening and thank you for joining us. i'm ama dates. >> i'm dan ashley. moving on investigators are searching for a possible arsonist. two fires were set in novato.

this is not the first time the area has seen suspicious fires. in may someone set 13 small blazes. just west of the highway 101 and 37 interchange. in june two more fires were set near highway 101 and lucas valley road. today's fire started early this afternoon at o'hare park near mewawk park. katie is live with the story. katie? >> dan, em at the entrance to mewak park. it is a couple paces up. if you follow us and look at what is in between there a lot of dry brush and homes, just this close. the fire is definitely too close for comfort for people who live here and for those who like the trails. >> we hike up here all the time. it is our favorite. it is close to our house. >> karen and ted are saddened to see this chopping of scorched earth, the smell of smoke heavy in the air. firefighters responded just

after 2:00 this afternoon and they worked quickly keeping the flames to an eighth of an acre. >> there is a lot of pressure on here. definitely a lot of fuel to -- you know, if they didn't put it out in time this whole area could be lit up. >> not six minutes later firefighters had a second fire on their hands at nearby o'hare park off novato boulevard. police and fire investigators say both fires are suspicious, possibly the work of an arsonist. only a few months ago someone was intentionally starting fires in the north bay, and that person is still on the loose. in june, 16 acres burned in tara linda and 50 homes had to be evacuated. in may someone started 11 separate grassfiress and two more near homes in novato. novato has been hit again, twice. police added extra patrols in the area and neighbors are ready and willing to do their part. >> we have to be more watchful. maybe somebody has seen something and will come forward. >> if you have any information

about these fires you are asked to call the novato police department. >> abc7 news. >> new details about an officer-involved shooting in san francisco earlier this year. the san francisco medical examiner's office released a full autopsy report for alex nieto today. it said nieto suffered 15 gunshot wounds from at least 10 bullets. they say he brandished and fired a taser at them. they say the body did not have traces of the anti-psych particular medications prescribed to him. it sparked protest by nieto's family and friends asking for a federal investigation. a strange story on the peninsula. someone is posing as a cop and hassling teenagers. here is a sketch from the real police of the guy they are looking for. he has a car with flashing lights and a fake badge. abc7 news sergio quintana is live. they are afraid he could be

dangerous. >> the first contact happened about here on channing avenue. that man was driving what looked like an unmarked police cruiser. he made contact with that bicyclist and his friend for what seemed to be a traffic stop. the only problem is the palo alto police department says none of their officers ever did that. on this stretch of channing avenue at about 4:00 in the afternoon last friday police say this man pulled up on two teenage bicyclists and started shouting at them through a vehicle loud speaker. >> they split ways and continued to follow one of the kids around the corner. eventually the kid pulled over thinking this was an undercover police officer. >> according to police, the unmarked car had what looked like blinking police lights installed and the driver showed the teenage rider who looked like a police badge. >> the badge appeared to have a tree on it. it was silver and had coloration to it. and then the subject pulled what appeared to be a black stun gun or a handgun. >> one parent who didn't want

us to use her name says she is concerned about the trust that might booy violated. >> kids are rule oriented. with somebody with authority stops them on the street, they are not gonna know that this is not an official cop. >> i talked with the resident off camera and she said she saw an unmarked car with blipping lights outside her -- blipping lights outside her house a few days ago where this all went down. the concerned parent said she will be telling her kids exactly what police are advising. >> if you are at all concerned or not sure, don't stop. tell them you want to be with an adult. >> palo alto police have reached out to neighboring departments to see if this man may work for them. abc7 news. jay a new scare tonight for residents on the peninsula. another mountain lion sighting just north of where a 6-year-old boy was mauled boo i a big cat on -- mauled by a big cat on sunday. it happened near san carlos at 10:30 last night. what you don't see in the photo is how close the mountain lion is to home.

sightings are not rare, but it is leaving them uneasy. >> i didn't believe i would see one over here! saw one and it was scary. >> since the attack in cupertino on sunday, officials say there have been two more sightings on the peninsula and one in santa cruz at the lagoon. state fish and wildlife officials today also confirm the mountain lion they caught and killed this week is the one that attacked the sikdz-year-old. rabies test on the beg cat came back negative. the preserve will re-open tomorrow. they have been closed ever since the attack. authorities are searching the california coastline for a sailboat that may be carrying a 9-year-old boy believed to have been abducted by his father. 9-year-old billy ginger hanson and his father left the port in seattle on august 28th. bill looy was expected to return to his mother in pennsylvania on on september 4th, but neither he nor his father, jeffrey hanson, has been seen since.

this is the 1976 sailboat they are believe -- believed to be on. it has a six-inch red stripe on the side. as the nfl deals with multiple players in trouble. now comes news another star has been indicted. adrian peterson was indicted in texas for reckless or negligent injury to a child. peterson told police he, quote, whopped his son with a switch last may while his son visited him at his home near houston. it left these marks on the boy. the vikings haven't de activated peterson for the game. he is cooperating with police. the arraignment for the defensive lineman scheduled for monday has been postponed. he was arrested last month on domestic violence charges after a party at these home in san jose. they say he was abusing his pregnant fiancee. they say the arraignment is

delayed because police haven't finished their investigation. he played in last week's game against dallas and will play in sunday's home opener. let's talk about that game. the 49er have an elaborate pre game ceremony planned for that first game at levi stadium. the facility, grass and the traffic plan have been improved and they are now ready to go. and people who live in neighborhoods near the stadium wild out there. those attending the games are not supposed to park in the neighborhoods, but during the pre-season event, a lot of people still found their way in. they were littering and urinating along the way. >> we just want people to be more aware and self-conscious about our residential areas. just being courteous. >> those thousands of fans who will flood santa clara tomorrow well drop some serious cash to be part of 49er history. at the box office, standing room only tickets in the end zone sold for $400. >> wow. >> we went on-line and the cheapest ticket we found was

merminging about a bloody -- still emerging about a bloody brawl between sarah palin and her family over the weekend. the "washington post" reported that palin attended in anchorage with her husband, todd and her kids. the family was asked to leave after track palin allegedly attacked another guest who previously dated his younger sister, willow. a witness who saw the fight said bristol palin joined in and punched the party's host six times. >> i sarah palin scream out,

don't know how to swim they can't teach their kids. they are all scared of it. >> it was a no brainer when she had to come up with a service project to earn either girl scout gold award. she collected 120 swimsuits and developed a program and went to corn island to teach the children how to swim. >> i was expecting 20 or 30. i got there and there were 80 something kids there. >> for seven days straight hannah who is a certified lifeguard gently tossed and tested each child. all of them passed. hannah was showered with love and thanks. >> i don't need to be paid in order to be satisfied. it was great to have these people come up to me and say that to me. it warms my heart. >> i always try to teach my children. it is not about going to church and sitting there every sunday. it is about living a good life and helping people and being kind to people. >> hannah's kindness caught on. other vacationers decided to continue her swim lessons on corn island and hannah will return in december to teach

again. in brentwood, alan wang, abc7 news. >> great thing she is doing. well, people who have an itunes account got a gift from apple this week, but not everyone is happy about it. apple added the youtube album for free to the library on the i cloud this week. whether you wanted the album or not, it is there for most people. apple paid $100 million for the album. instead of gratitude, many people are creeped out. dancing ac tweeted "it scared me thinking i bought it" but others aren't looking a gift horse in the mouth tweeting they are outraged because they believe it was an invasion of privacy. personally, i like the band so i was thrilled. >> well, an intense solar flare storm will hit overnight and it could affect signals and radio communications and more technology through monday. so be on the lookout for that. the storm seen here thanks to nasa could have another affect. some californians may be able

to see the northern lights. accu-weather.com says the aurora borealis will be available from california near the oregon border. if you are up for a drive this weekend, maybe you want to check it out. let's check in on the weather. sandhya patel is here. >> dan and am ma, the national -- ama, the national weather service says we are too far south and can't see it. if you are traveling up to the north you can see it. right now on live doppler 7hd, we can see the high cloudiness and there is fog down below near the coastline. i want to show you what the high clouds did to the sunset from the east bay hills camera. look at this. it was absolutely amazing at 7:22 when the sun went down. and we will be seeing more high clouds tomorrow. it was hot today, 101 and 97 in concord. up to ate 5 in san jose. so pretty warm there. 92 santa rosa and 78 in oakland. 68 in san francisco and really a wide range of temperatures with the contrasting climates. fog at the coast and the

sunshine inland. sunshine inland. something for everyone. looking at san francisco's trans america pyramid. the numbers are mild. in the 60s from san francisco to oakland. look at san jose. it is almost 70 degrees right now. 59 in half moon bay. here is the shallow fog layer from our emeryville camera. nap paw 60 -- napa 64 and pleasant. east bay hills camera, visibility is good and the temperatures will drop off a little bit as we hit the weekend. we are looking at high clouds and fog. the inland heat eases tomorrow with the cooler pattern setting up for early next week. look a at our computer animation and not only will the fog be around tomorrow, but we will see high clouds mixing in. that will filter your sunshine. as we look way ahead to next week, keeping an eye on this system, northern california on wednesday has a rain chance next wednesday in northern california. we will obviously keep track in case there is a possibility here.

overnight tonight expecting the fog around near the coastline. the temperatures in the mid50s to the low 60s. also the high clouds and your early morning plans may need the extra thin layer. for the afternoon, it is pretty much short sleeve whether. 86 in san jose. 92 los gatos and 83 mill pea dis. 65 pacifica. 68 sunset district. and 60s right here and we will get you into the 90s around ukiah and microclimates there. out toward the east 78 in oakland and 84 castro valley. it is going to be hot, but not as hot as it was today. the niners' home opener is this sunday in case you didn't know. it looks fabulous.

nfl, first ray rice and today adrian peterson. the vikings running back indicted on charges of child abuse. authorities in texas say peterson used a tree branch to spank his 4-year-old son to the point where that little boy was covered with cuts and bruises all over these body. peterson's attorney says his client never intended to harm the boy. peterson will not play on sunday and he will turn himself into the police. they are billing this in vegas as mayhem. floyd mayweather fighting tomorrow night and they were showing off their abs. mayweather 146 and midona146. this will be a rematch up of a bout floyd barely won to stay undefeated. mayweather will make a minimum of 32 million to midonna's 3 million. and college football tomorrow, tennessee and oklahoma are kicking it off at 5:00 on abc7 followed by after the game at 8:30. >> you will be here for that?
