geisinger. good morning. thanks for joining us this saturday. i'm matt keller. a lick look at the weather, here's lisa argen. >> a few high clouds and low clouds this morning, as well making for a nice picture around the bay. san jose at 60, 62 in oakland and 56 in morgan hill. more low clouds and fog here. the wind blowing a little bit in the city. later on this afternoon, back into the low 70s, san francisco. still 60s at the coast with fog along the san mateo coast. look for upper 80s to upper 90s today in the mariner coast. we're out of the triple digits and oakland upper 70s and upper 80s near the east bayshore line.

we'll talk more about our cooldown arriving more significantly tomorrow around the bay in a few minutes. matt? >> thank you, lisa. investigators are searching for a possible arsonist after two fires were set in novato. this is not the first time the area has seen suspicious fires. katie marzullo has the story. >> we hike here all the time. it's so close to our favorite. >> karen and ted hobson are saddened to see the scorched earth, the smell of smoke heavy in the air. firefighters responded to the area off aleva court keeping the flames to an eighth of an acre. >> there's a lot of dead lives. there's definitely a lot of fuel to -- they didn't put it out in time, this whole area could be lit up. >> not six minutes later they had a second fire at nearby o'hare park off know vat tote boulevard. investigators say both fires are suspicious, possibly the work of an arsonist. a few months ago, someone was

intentionally starting fires in the north bay and that person is still on the loose. in june, 16 acres burned in tara linda, 60 homes had to be evacuated. in may, someone started 11 separate grass fires and two more in homes near novato. now novato is hit again twice. police added extra patrols and neighbors are ready and willing to do their part. >> we've got to be more watchful. maybe has seen something and comes forward. >> if you have information, call the novato police department. indicate can i marzullo, abc7 news. >> developing news out of southern california where three firefighters have been injuried are fighting a rapidly moving brush fire. silverado fire started in the cleveland national forest at 10:30 yesterday morning and charred more than 1600 acres. dozens of homes evacuated. fires fueled by steep high terrain. high temperatures today could

make for tough quns for firefighters. from overnight, a manhunt is under way in pennsylvania after a state police trooper is killed and a second injured in a shooting at a police barracks. marcy gonzales has the developments. >> shots fired overnight in front of this state police barracks in rural pennsylvania. two officers ambushed during a shift change. one state trooper killed, another rushed to a hospital. police still searching for the gunman. >> we are putting every resource available to the pennsylvania state police in action. >> hundreds of officers and a s.w.a.t. team called to the seem in blooming grove. their search complicated in this heavily wooded remote area near the new york, and new jersey borders. police releasing little information about exactly what happened as they focus on tracking down the killer. >> it's very emotional for all of us. we're all so focused on our investigation. i'm sure this is going to be a very difficult time for them as

for all of us. >> police still aren't saying how many suspects they're looking for. we're waiting for them to release the names of the two troopers who were shot. the surviving officer is out of surgery and expected to recover. marcy gonzales, abc news, new york. new details this morning about a police shooting in san francisco earlier this year. the san francisco medical examiner's office released the full autopsy report for alex nieto. it says he suffered as many as 15 gunshot wounds from ten bullets. officers said he fired a taser at them. his body did not have any traces of the anti-psychotic medications prescribed to him. he had a history of aggressive behavior including being placed on a psychiatric hold for attempting to burn his parents' house dead. his death sparked protests by friends and family beginning with a federal investigation. a strange story on the peninsula.

someone is posing as a cop and hassling teenagers. here's a sketch from the real police of the guy they're looking for, a car with flashing lights and a fake badge. abc7 news report sergio quintana has details. >> on this stretch of chang avenue, police say this man pulled up on two teenage bicyclists and started southing at them through a loud speaker. >> they split ways and the car followed one of the kids around a corner. eventually the kid fulled over thinking maybe this is an undercover police officer. >> according to police, the car had what looked like blinking police lights installed and the driver show the teenage ryder what looked like a police badge. >> the badge appeared 0 to have a tree on it with silver and coloration to it and then the subject pulled what appeared to be a black stun gun or handgun. >> one ference says she's concerned about the trust that might be violated. >> kids are pretty rule oriented.

if someone with authority stops them on the street, they're not going to know that this is not an official cop. >> i talked with a resident off camera who saw an unmarked car with blinking police style lights outside her house a few days ago white where detectives say this went down. the ference says she'll be telling her kids exactly what police are advising >> if you're at all concerned or not sure, don't stop. tell them you want to be with an adult. >> police have reached out to neighboring departments to see if this man may work for them. in palo alto, sergio quintana, avs 67 news. >> a new scare for residents on the peninsula. another mountain lion sighting just north of where a 6-year-old boy was mauled on sunday. the latest was seen near san carlos at 10:30 thursday night. we don't see in the photo how close this mountain lion is to homes. sightings are not rare but it's leaving residents uneasy. >> i heard there's mountain lions over here but i didn't

believe i saw one. i saw one. it was kind of scary. >> since the attack in cupertino last sunday, officials say there have been two more sightings on the peninsula and one thursday night in the san tal cruz. state fish and wildlife officials confirmed the lion they caught and killed this week is the one that attacked the 6-year-old. rabies tests came back fegtive. trails at the ranch preserve will be open to the public today and have been closed since the attack. authorities are searching the california coast for a sailboat that may be carrying a 9-year-old boy believed to have been abducted by his father. billy ginger hansen left port in seattle on august 28th. he was expected to return to his mother on september 4th but neither he nor his father jeffrey has been seen since. this is the 1976 sailboat they're believed on, it's called the draco and has a six-inch red stripe on its side. vikings star running back

adrian petersen is out on bail after turning himself in to texas authorities last night. he was indicted by a grand jury yesterday on charges of reckless or negligent injury to a child. he posted bail after being booked in the jail and was released about 30 minutes later. he told police he spanked his 4-year-old son with a tree branch wilhe referred to as a switch while his son visited back in may at his home in houston. it left marks on the boy. his attorney rusty hardin says petersen is a loving father who uses judgment as a ference to discipline his son. he said petersen used the same kind of discipline with his son that he experienced as a child growing up. it's important to remember petersen never intended to harm his son and regrets the unintentional injury. the vikings deactivated him for tomorrow's game. >> the arraignment for ray mcdonald scheduled for monday has been postponed. he was arrested last month on

domestic violence charges. the district attorney says the arraignment is delayed because police have not finished their investigation. he played in last week's game against dallas and expected to play in tomorrow's home opener. the san francisco 49ers will have the opportunity to test the field at levi's stadium since resodded. sky 7 was overhead yesterday as workers put the finishing touches on the field. it has been resodded twice since coach haar bow was forced to cancel practice after they slipped on grass during the preseason. tomorrow night will be the first time the stadium is used for a regular season game. the 49ers have an elaborate pre-game ceremony planned tomorrow. the facility and grass and traffic plan are ready to go. people who live near the stadium say they're ready and hopeful things don't get out of happened. those attending games aren't supposed to park in the neighborhoods but during preseason events many still

details are still emerging about a bloody brawl involving former vice presidential candidate sarah palin and her family at a party last weekend. palin attended the event in anchorage with her husband todd, and kids bristol, willow and track. track palin allegedly attacked another guest who previously dated his younger sister willow. a witness said bristol palin joined in and purged the party's host six times. >> i heard sarah palin scream out you know who we are, don't you? it was like we were just on the gary martinez springer episode. >> police in anchorage confirm the palins were at the party but did not say the role the family had in the incident. an accidentaltered the mood of a bay area teen's vacation. but it inspired her to do

something about it. allen long introduces us to a brentwood girl whose change of vacation plans changed an island. >> 16-year-old hannah richardson has traveled the road and has options in life but when she ventured to corn island for a vacation, her view of the world changed. >> i found out while i was there a little girl had drowned in the ocean. >> she learned few of the children on this impoverished island knew how to swim. >> because their parents didn't know how to swim. they're not going to teach their kids. they're all scared of it. >> it was a no-brainer when she had to come up with a service project to earn her girl scout award. she developed 120 swimsuits, developed a program and went back to the corn island to teach them to swim. >> i was expecting 20, are 30. i got there and there were like 80 something kids there. >> for seven days straight,

jeremy horowitz wrote it's 12:11 a.m. pacific which means the guy supposed to be reopening the apple store has a dead apple watch battery. eager iphone 6 seekers who stayed up late to preorder might have been greet ed by this or some other clear indication account apple site and others associated with the new iphone were overwhelmed. lind said covers apple for san francisco based c-net. >> there was a gigantic amount of demand and apple and a couple of carriers weren't quite ready to handle the load that they got in the middle of the night. >> kind of pretty cool. >> young alex wants to get an iphone 6 but when it comes to preordering he has his limits. >> if you had to wait an hour, is that worth it? >> yes >> two hours? >> no. >> an apple spokeswoman acknowledged the site was busy without saying that's why it crashed. of preorders overnight. the site was up and running and processing iphone 6 preorders just fine by later in the morning. >> i didn't have any trouble. i woke up about 9:00 a.m. today before work and i just went on apple.com, preordered, didn't have any issues. >> then there are those who got online before midnight. >> it was a little early, too. i could do at 11:59 and cashed out and everything. >> the iphone 6 is still available online but apple says preorders for the larger iphone 6 plus are already sold out. the iphone 6 will be available in stores september 19th. in walnut creek, laura anthony, abc7 news. >> google is planning to test prototypes of its self-driving car close to home. the san jose mercury news reports tech giant aren't turn part of moffett field into a test track for the program. this video is provided by the company. since the field is owned by the government, google doesn't need to worry about california

regulations that require are self-driving cars have steering wheels and brakes in case the technology fails. san francisco's comedy day will have a somber start this year. organizers plan to hold a special tribute to the comedian robin williams at the start of the comedy fest tomorrow. williams has a long history with the event. he performed in the very first comedy day three decades ago. comedy day takes place tomorrow in golden gate park at noon and it's free. some of the headliners include will durst and margaret cho. twin solar flares are hitting earth with a geomagnetic storm expected to peak today that could affect gps, are radio communications and more technology through monday. storms seen here could also have another effect. . californians may be able to see the northern lights. the aurora bore ral lis will be visible near the oregon border. if you're up for a drive this weekend, check it out. not seeing much in the sky this

hills camera looking at the westward sky, low clouds, a little bit hazy. good air quality. high clouds and fog with the inlead easing by 3 or 4 degrees today. cooler pattern and taking shape tomorrow. more significantly on monday as the trough drops down from the pacific northwest. high pressure still right overhead. it will begin to slide to the east tomorrow. that's why we get the cooling, but army today visiting for stanford, which was going to make up, will probably make up for last week's loss with the upper 70s to the low 80s. so a warm day, plenty of sunshine and tomorrow, talk about warm. we'll be in the 80s in santa clara over into the east bay..ñ beautiful day. mid-70s. 1:25 and by 4:00, 72 degrees. so the high clouds not making a whole lot of difference in terms of the heat. it's really all about the low clouds, the fog and the afternoon sea breeze.

a man fishing for salomon off the san francisco coast made an unusual catch. take a look. he hooked an endangered eastern pacific green sea turtle last weekend. they grow to be three to four feet in length. the captain of the chartered fishing boat knew what to do. he netted the turtle, unhooked and returned it to sea unharped. the turtle was about 2,000 miles off course. pacific green turtles are mostly found in mexico in the galapagos. finding one off san francisco is extremely rare. it may have been drawn to the area by warmer than normal frozen water. >> disney's froeseton movie will be a popular theme park ride in epcot in florida. norway was the inspiration when they made the kingdom from "frozen." disney has not said when it will open. much more ahead on the abc7

adds the fight against the islamic state can't be america's alone. >> what's needed now is a targeted relentless counter-terrorism campaign against iceal that combines american air power, contributions from allies and partners and more support tore forces that are fighting these terrorists on the ground. that's exactly what we're doing. >> the president announce this had week a plan to launch air strikes in iraq and in syria and to train and equip moderate (bd5an opposition fighters. napa is now by presidential decree a federal disaster area. but if your home was damaged you'll have to wait for government lep. the president's disaster declaration isn't bringing the money a lot of people hoped for, not yet. wayne freedman reports. >> here's the good in us in napa. almost three weeks since the quake and downtown is coming on strong. sure in places it still looks like a disaster area but at least the federal government now recognizes that fact.

grown in size and popularity. exploding from 12,000 pieces to roughly 32,000 works of art. that includes 1100 works from don and doris fischer, co-founders of the gap. 23 million people have visited the museum since it was founded in 1935. more than half of them have come just as the museum moved south of market. >> this is going to be one of the finest museums of modern contemporary art in the world. >> from sky 7 hd, you can see the building rising here yerba buena gardens. when completed it will be as cutting an edge as the art it it will hold. the expansion was designed by architectural firm snohedda. >> it houses great works of art. as you approach from a distance, it has a unique function in the city. >> the expansion is going up behind the existing landmark building designed by architect mario b ondrej pavelec ta. it will add thousands of square

feet, a huge new space for exhibitions and installations. >> it's a vet calm experience. the rooms are designed to allow the art to move forward in your consciousness. so it has less sculptural identity on the interior. >> last year, crowds lined up outside the museum to get a final look before it closed for construction. the museum provided us with the video of the staff packing up many of the priceless works now being stored at an undisclosed location. not everything is tucked away. the museum loaned some of its collection to other museums around the state. at the asian art museum here in san francisco, gorgeous takes a look at our perception of what is beautiful over 2,000 years. the exhibit runs till september 14. >> ten we've got an exhibition opening in a couple of weeks at the oakland museum of california. >> it will be just a peek at what will be on display when the expanded museum of modern art reopens in 2016. leila ghoul lynn, avs news.

good morning. here's a live look from our emeryville camera. clouds hanging out this morning. it's going to clear out. hot temperatures coming your way again. still a little bit cooler than yesterday. b.a.r.t. riders asking for late night service will soon get their wish. beginning in december, b.a.r.t. will offer overnight bus service between san francisco and the busiest east bay stations in talks with ac transit to operate the service. b.a.r.t. has said the buses are the best they can do for early riders. track maintenance won't allow for 24 hour train service like other cities. there's something going on in san francisco part conference, part festival and all about making things. news reporter jonathan bloom takes you inside fort mason where the second annual remake is under way. >> san francisco plays host to hundreds of conferences. but this may be the only one with a giant paint by numbers in the front lobby. >> at our core we're about instilling creative confidence in adults. children have it but adults have

more cooling tomorrow. as our high pressure ridge pushes off to the east and in response to that, we're going to look for a trough of low pressure that's going to drop down from the pacific northwest. it's the ridge that's got to the slide to the east in response to the trough that kicks in the sea breeze. but for today, it's still overhead. we are looking at warm numbers slowly losing their grip around the bay today. in terms of high temperatures, it's hot in sacramento. 101 there. 70 in monterrey with the 80 in sierra nevada. a heat advisory for san diego. that doesn't happen too often. humid weather there. we've got 92 in los angeles. fighting that fire in the forest there. so some poor air quality where our air quality improves today. we will look for a beautiful day in the mid 60s this evening 6:00 as the dodgers try to come back probably not going to happen because the giants are just on fire. aren't they? well, today, it will be a warm
