look where we are, southbound 880. it is dramatic aftermath of the accident, a burned out shell of a car. investigators are all over the highway. they are trying to figure out what happened and gather their evidence. they are trying to clean up the mess. here is video from after the crash of a car on fire. this is after 3:00 this morning. it is on 880 in san lenadro. a big rig was involved. several cars crashed interest it. the investigator could not even tell how many cars. they did have to take nine people to the hospital. three of those people are in critical condition. we talked to the division chief on the scene. >> c.h.p. is conduct an

investigation. i don't is detail on the cause. >> how many cars were involved? >> i don't know. we are still investigating that aspect. here is video of a helicopter that airlifted one of patients. the pay ship was so critical they had to bring in the helicopter. nine were taken in. three of the 39 are in critical condition. if you are traveling southbound 880 you will be diverted at marina. northbound, you will be diverted at washington avenue. avoid the area altogether. that is the best advise. there are no far attempts at this point. it was a terrible and dramatic accident. they will be here if several hours.

big traffic news. >> we will check with leyla gulen again. both directions are shut down if san lenadro and 880. you are look at tail lights headed in the southbound direction as you approach marina boulevard. you can see where the traffic is not allowed to move, northbound and southbound 880, all lanes are shut down at time and the sig-alert is in affect because of a serious accident. we are looking at heavy delays building so as you can see the traffic has not moved since we started looking at the camera. the accident was reported at 3:30 when a tractor trailer jumped the divider and a car call the fire. here are live pictures from the freeway from the crew and you can see c.h.p. and the fire department is still on the scene trying to mop things up and

there is a ton of debris in the lanes. c.h.p. is advising anyone who traveled through the area for the next couple of days to be careful. they will try to move all of the debris off of the freeway and you can run into debris that left behind. be careful when you drive through there in san lenadro northbound and southbound 880 at marina boulevard. i will show you what the delays are looking like. we are seeing delays building through castro valley and you are advised to avoid 880 and take 580 instead southbound traffic is letting cars off at marina but cans are fault moving. this is the slow-going morning. if you are headed out of the house, avoid this area. they do not know when it will re-open. all leaps are shut down northbound and southbound 880,

abc7 news begins with breaking news. not a great start to the week as far as the commute in the bay area. it is break news we have covered all morning. interstate 880 is shut down in both directions after a major accident in san lenadro. amy hollyfield is near the

scene. right now they are towing all of the cars off of the freeway and that is taking some time but that is the priority right new so they can open up the lanes to start cleaning them and we have seen so many cars being towed out of here and it is taking a long-term because there are 13 cars, 13 vehicles involved in the accident. here is video of one of the cars on fire just after the crash. officers say a big rig was involved that crassed over the center divide and they do not know what started the chain reaction of all of the collections. they have shut down the freeway in both directions here in san lenadro on 7880 which is rare. >> the accident was dramatic. the truck crossed the center divide through the rail and damaged that extensively and there was a vehicle on fire when the first units arrived and there were a number of cars hit

northbound direction and possibly a sleep are train picking up debris but that is a problem for the next couple of days and c.h.p. says be careful as you travel through san drove because there is going to be left over debris they are unable to clean off the freeway. we have another word of an accident to the south, northbound 238 at 880, three lanes shut down because of another accident with heavy delays through castro valley. the way to avoid the delays is to use 580 instead so 580 is the alternate until further notice. >> we start off with temperatures inland east bay and 59 in danville and dublin is the cool spot, 60 in san ramon, and pleasanton hill and mid-to-upper 60's out highway four. everyone else is in the upper
