live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> thousands of commuters were affected by the horrific crash today on interstate 880 in san lenadro after a collision between a big rig and almost a dozen vehicles. thanks for joining us. that accident injured a number people. it shut down interstate 880 for hours. nine people were hurt. amy hollyfield joins us from san lenadro. it took a long-term to get the -- long time to get the road open? >> some people were so tired of waiting they took matters into their own hands and tore down the against created their own

exit ramp so they could escape the freeway. an emergency responder said it felt like a movie scene, a car was on fire, people needed help, some were screening and running. a helicopter landed on the freeway. cars in both directions came to a stop. >> anyone people were taken to the hospital. three in critical condition. investigators say after 3:00 an sufficient traveling southbound on 880 crashed into the guard rail and a big rig tried to avoid the wrecked car and swerved and crashed through the center divider and some oncoming northbound traffic. at least ten cars crashed. authorities closed 880 in both directions. >> it is uncommon to be shut down in both directions. this was a major accident with a lot of debris and fuel on the road. >> crews had to tow all cars and clean the freeway and repair the

center divider. all while drivers sat and watched and waited. for hours. some get out of the their cars to survey the situation. and socialize. >> i am worried about our trucks stuck. >> i have been here since 3:08. hopefully i don't have to go to work. >> some drivers were so desperate they tore down a chain fence and drove through the hole to escape the shutdown freeway. >> that is funny. >> i am supposed to be at work at 4:00 a.m. so it is what it is. >> they opened the lanes as they got debris cleared but they did not on the final northbound lane until 9:30 this morning 6 1/2 hours after the collision. >> a wildfire burning in the

central valley has green to 320 acres and the fire has forced up to a thousand people from their homes near oakhurst and madera county and is 20 percent contained. 21 homes have been burned and structures and threatening 400 other structures. it is believed that someone started the fire at 2:00 yesterday afternoon, with that still under investigation. >> 800 firefighters are battling the king fire which is 3,900 acres. it is 10 percent contained. it is burning east of a local community starting saturday afternoon causing 160 mandatory evacuations. the wild first is threatening on homes. >> another fire in mendocino county with an evacuation order lifted that destroyed five structures burning 400 acres. it is now 50 percent contained.

we have pictures from the fire that started on friday afternoon. firefighters are working in extreme conditions with strong winds. 450 firefighters are battling the battle. >> a young man was fatally shot by a police officer and the memorial is growing. 24-year-old richard perez died after being shot outside the liquor store on sunday morning. flowers and candles line the sidewalk outside of the store. the officer told investigators that perez was drunk and abilitying aggressively. the two get into a fight and perez went for the gun forcing him to shoot peres throw times in the chest. name of the officer has not been released and he is on routine paid leave. >> in santa cruz county a surfer says a great white knocked him off the subboard and took a chunk out of the board. this shows the damage to the board. the great white 10' or 15' long

70 in san mateo and 79 in los gatos for the warm spot. mid-to-upper 60's elsewhere. and here is a look at downtown san francisco, the financial district, many areas from our camera, you can see the haze in the air but now we have clean air under the mostly sunny and cooler air mass and now we have the drizzle wednesday and thursday and the chance of light showers is lingering on thursday's forecast for the rest of us and here is the weather maker, a cold front and a low but not much moisture that is enhancing the sea breeze and we will see that cooling trend that took the 100s out of the forecast and it will take the 90 out of the's. we could make another day before they go away and mid-80's in los gatos and gilroy. watch out for the rough serve in santa cruz and 74. millbrae will be 72. mid-60's loan the coast. 70 downtown and upper 70's and near 80 at the valley and from
