the national forest with firefighters had a close call today. laura? >> that was a close call, a rescue after the fire burned over an inmate crew with the captain and a dozer operator. a lot of folks are watching this fire. it's officially 3900 acres, we expect that number to go up considerably. late today with flames moving closer, firefighters launched an air attack. residents looked on. despite efforts, firefighters from the air and ground, it has grown considerably and burned close to dozens of homes.

so far, no structures have burned but many were evacuated in and around pollock pines and north and east. >> we had a heads up we're going to probably have to evacuate. and when it came to getting 15 minutes of we need to get out, we just got ourselves and on we went. >> i wanted to get my cat out. some pictures is all i worried about. really. >> officially, cal fire says the fire was just 10% contained. >> the location is in a canyon. very steep terrain. very dry fuelled drought in this area. temperatures are warmer, humidity is down. >> sharon has a cabin, one of 43

in the area where the flames were headed >> we've got cabins here. and trying to keep control into the cabins now we have a lot of ash and smoke. that is about it. >> now, this is a live look at the fire activity behind me. we're standing north and east. this just in from caltrans. they've closed a section of highway 50. that is westbound the fire is moving in the direction of highway 50. i'm told there are homes on the other side of the smoke and those are significantly threats the fire just 0% contained but we're expecting the acreage to increase dramatically.

san bruno city officials were first to charge that regulator and utility had an unholy alliance, a too-cozy relationship, now they're saying we told you so. pg&e says it released the e mails after reviewing 65,000 e mails in two months. >> we have separated three officers from the company the e mails occur md january of last year, pg&e sent e mails to cpuc regarding assignment of an administrative law judge in a rate case that is ongoing. exchanges were between cpuc president michael peavy's chief of staff. here is some of the e mails which cpuc and utility found

abc7 news viewers have come through in a big way. thousands of horses are starving or being sent to slaughter because of drought. one group is trying to save as many as possible. tonight an update on the response to our report. >> he i realized this is exactly the right choice. >> right after this steina is talking about her decision to adopt hank and dobbin. healthy, well trained horses that were almost killed and sold as horse meat. now, thanks to christina and her friend, the horses are living the good life in novato.
