following acted quickly. 14 young women, celebrating in cabo san lucas just days before the hurricane. for them, etc. been a scary, gruelling 48 hours after hurricane odele slammed into the hotel. >> in the bathroom, there is noise in the background. >> karen is the mother of the bride to be. her other three daughters were also there. >> the cell phone video was shot by one daughter that shows 11 girls huddled together in the bathroom the only safe place in the hotel. once the storm had passed, they couldn't stay in their rooms because of the broken glass and debris. they ended up sleeping in the hallway. there was no way to communicate with them. >> how can i get to them? get them out? >> friends came to help. from their home, they tried to use the internet to reach out to

anyone with information. they attempted too contact the u.s. state department but told the lines were too busy. with no running water, the girls left their hotel to try to get bottled water and found the nearby store had been looted. >> they were wanting to get out. they needed something. >> from their hotel, two girls saw lights from the airport. >> they saw lights. there was a helicopter. the military planes came in. they ran. >> once on board that military plane, one girl took a picture of chrissy van barrenberg. exhausted they landed this morning in mazatlan. out of danger. >> all four of them, their cousin, lisa. their bride mads are still not home. we're trying to find a way home. >> tonight, several airlines including alaska air have added flights to help transport passengers from mazatlan to los angeles.

our young women will be among the passengers they hope to catch a flight to san francisco this evening. welcome home. live in the newsroom, abc7 news. >> they will be glad to be back. thank you. now, here is a look at what the remnants of the hurricane have brought to southern california desert. heavy rain flooded streets in lake elsinore. two schools are under several inches of water. a flash flood warning remains in affect for another hour or so. and strong winds, lightning and hail. >> now, time for a check on the weather. spencer christian is here with live doppler 7 hd. >> things are calm and quiet. we await, some shower activity. you know showers and thunderstorms and heavy rain, flash flooding have been wide spread from the remnants of odele, continuing to flow from that region. one usual creature of the weather pattern is high heat with high temperatures in mid to upper 90s with showers and

thundershowers now, that is southern california. here in the bay area, we're awaiting showers arriving in oh, just over 24 hours. and the forecast in just a few minutes. >> we look forward that. thank you. northern california firefighters now have the upper hand on a fire nearly wiped out a town near the oregon border. the fire damaged or destroyed 150 buildings, including two churches, a school and bumlerville. these are some of the pictures tweeted this afternoon by abc7 news reporter wayne freedman now on the scene the fire has been burning in the town of weed along interstate 5. it hasn't yet been contained. >> well, right now at this point the fire is outside of town. they don't want to spark up again. they're concerned about it they were saying 20% contained which means they probably have more than that but this was a very hot fire.

this is a piece of aluminium that used to be on a thunder bird. this is the time of the day when light is beautiful. "time" is anything but, it is devastating. don't hold your breath. there are places you can drive for block after block, seeing nothing but burned scape. it takes your breath away. homes, churches and businesses. 150 of them disappeared yesterday afternoon. roughly two thirds of the people in the town are evacuated or burned out. diana and her husband among the lucky ones. >> just awful, awful to know your neighbor has no home. >> who would think you'd spread

we'll pull together. and put our town back together. >> together, from the ashes. a town, they say that burned in roughly two hours with 45 miles per hour winds the fire moved so fast, residents say it covered a mile in less than half an hour. here is more perspective. another house more scaled the county asked the state to declare this a disaster area. and cal fire tells me it's going to be a slam dunk. heavy smoke from the king fire. that fire is burning north of highway 50 which is in between sacramento and south lake ta show. 500 structures remain threatened and two people, hurt the cause is under investigation. >> crews have also been working around the clock to see a fast

moving wildfire south of yosemite the fire has destroyed 33 homes and forced evacuations of 600 people. the fire has burned 320 acres, is 40% contained three water wells have been destroyed. >> an mazing story to share out of the sierra. a pilot has been rescued after his single engine plane crashed east of fresno. the air force released this image of the plane. the 67 wrerld-year-old reported missing after his plane failed to land in loen pine. take a look at the plane there. this morning crews spotted the man walking around the site. he was rescued by helicopters and treated for injuries to his ribs and face the cause of the crash is unclear. >> san francisco's fire department is facing a crisis tonight. this afternoon, supervisor made a public announcement of no confidence in chief white. this around plummeting ambulance

response times and other controversies in the department. dan noyes has been gating for weeks and is here with developments dramatic. >> supervisor has been pointing the finger at chief heys-white. these issues have been festering for years. who suffers the most? the public. this supervisor has credentials in the field. london reid served two years on the fire commission. >> people of san francisco pay the fire chief over $300,000 per year. i think we're entitled to expect at least a minimum level of service and safety. >> he told me this afternoon she's lost confidence in hays-white because of the handling of the many controversies over the years the firefighters who apparently had been drinking on the job, who hit a motorcycle and left the scene. two fire trucks rolled over a young passenger from the asiana crash, killing her, and now response times.

the north bay. then, during overnight hours into thursday morning more wide spread showers, again, don't expect them to be heavy but looks like it could be a bet thursday morning commute z into mid day thursday, showers beginning to break up. projection for rainfall, by mid day, just hundredths of an inch foremost of the central part of the bay area and into the north bay. and overnight, look for high clouds, low temperatures mainly upper 50s to around 60s. tomorrow, high temperatures from about 70 on the coast to mid and upper 70s around the bay. low to mid-80s inland here is the accu-weather forecast. cooling thursday with clouds and showers. way warmer pattern settling in. high temperatures around 90 inland over the weekend.

>> it happened over the weekend at pittsburgh bay point station the woman arrested for public intoxication and resisting arrest. police say the woman was banging on windows and trying to pry open a door. but this is video posted on you tube, witnesses have come forward to dispute claims, saying she was calm, sleeping when the officer woke her up. >> today, nasa announced boeing and space x will compete in a race to earn a long-term contract to transport american astronauts into space. nasa relies on russia's space program to get astronauts to the international space station. however, that cost is $70 million a ride. and restrict's nasa's freedom. the ceo is he'llan musk.
