this. crews had to cut down to keep the fire if jumping the highway. >> the drive along highway 50, the main artery is quiet with road closed as fire crews work to contain the king fire. a huge plume of smoke is overhead he was taken into custody in placerville. >> authorities announced they have a man in custody they believe started the fire. 37-year-old wayne allen huntsman arrested wednesday in placerville, being held on $10 million bail in jail. huntsman described as a transient, charged with willfully setting fire to forestland. he has prior felony convictions and none of those involve arson.

the king fire spread from el dorado to placer county. >> fires are over a mile over the main fire. meaning they're wafted and go out into unburned land and start a fire. >> cal fire says they dropped 400,000 pounds of retardant and the fire is just 5% contained. >> we're seeing behavior here in september. that we have not seen before and in a long time. >> it's a reality that those who live near the fire lines are well aware of. >> now, today we're not hearing helicopters but they're very comforting all day long because you know that they're working to save your home.

>> now back to the king fire. a 37-year-old has a criminal record p santa george warren picks up the story from there in placerville. george? >> nobody close to the investigation will discuss it. but the complaint makes it clear they feel it was started willfully. in an effort to possible conviction, they listed most of the crimes committed when huntsman was 20 years old we found a misdemeanor last year in what appears to be a bizarre

coincidence, huntsman was slightly injured in an act of arson here, last march. an explosion and fire apparently caused by a neighbor. the landlord said he was surprised to hear of the arrest. he seemed to be semi foeshl but you can tell he was, had been in prison a couple times. it's a shock. >> the cottage is just now being rebuilt. this arson was an apparent coincidence wayne huntsman will be arraigned tomorrow afternoon at 1:00. until then, he's being held in lieu of $10 million bail. live in placerville, abc7 news. >> george, thank you. days after surviving hurricane
