>> father of a man shot and killed by richmond police says two different stories emerge. thank you for joining us. richard perez's family says last sunday's shooting was underand want the officer involved prosecuted. cornell bernard spoke with the perez family and is live in richmond. reporter: friends and family of richard petey perez is gathered here at nichols park in richmond after his funeral today. they're demanding justice for his death. >> i raised my son well. he had respect for the law. >> grieving father, rick perez, says his son didn't have to die last sunday after getting into a confrontation with a richmond police officer here at uncle sam's liquor store. >> only guilty of one thing, that night, and that was being intoxicated. >> the family of richard petey

perez held a news conference after their son's funeral, along with their attorney, john buris, police say 31-year-old wally jensen, six year veteran of the force, saw perez at the liquor store, acting bell illini gent. when the officer asked perez to set on a sidewalk while a records check could be done, perez attacked the officer and tried to grab his gun. the officer, fearing for his life, shot perez three times, killing him. police have surveilens video that proves the shooting was justified. >> he was unarmed. >> john buris wants the officer prosecuted. he said witness accounts contradict the officer's story. >> the most damnable aspect of this to me is this claim that he reached for the officer's gun. as a basis to justify the shooting. that is a bold-faced lie. reporter: police chief was invited to attend the news conference but did not, but said

in a statement, as chief of police, i'm committed to the greatest degree of transparency possible involving this critical incident. officer jensen remains or paid leave during the d.a.'s investigation, while a grieving family is demanding justice. >> always thought stuff like this only happened to other people. like the lottery, only happens to other people. i did not win the lottery here. >> in richmond, abc7 news. >> a bay point man accused of sexually assaulting three boys faces 17 charges today. roned in the deguzman turn himself in to deputies on september 9th. officers believe the contacted the victims through churches. detectives think there may be additional victims. they virtue began searching for deguzman last month. a driver is under arrest for hitting and killing a woman near the san francisco stockton tunnel. officers say the driver made a left turn on to stockton and hit the woman as she crossed the

street. police say the victim lived in the neighborhood. the investigation shut done the tunnel for several hours. police arrested the driver of the car for vehicular manslaughter. investigators have not released the names of the suspect or the victim. a fire forced evacuation of a large apartment complex in san mateo today. it started this morning. firefighter says at least one car inside a ground, level carport started on fire, which damaged the building. the apartment manager went door to door to get everyone out. >> there's a big fire from the car some minutes, whole smoke in the parking lot. just walk away from the parking lot, went to my room and pick up my son and walk away from the apartment. >> the residents had to remain outside while pg&e secured the gas and electric lines. to developing new. the massive wildfire burning east of sacramento has grown another six square miles.

the fire has scorched 126 square miles in all since it ignited a week ago today. assessment teams hope to get an idea today of just how many structures have been damaged or destroyed. about 12,000 homes are in danger right now. in other areas the flames are no longer a threat. >> our highest pry north this area is to continually assess when residents can come back in. >> record amounts of retardant have been dropped on the fire. flames spread to the tahoe national forest and there are reports the smoke ivies nibble the tahoe area. this is one of several major wildfires burping in the state. smoke could cause serious air quality problems. a shift in the winds is bringing smoke our way. bay area residents may notice the smell, could impact solano, contra costa, napa, and alameda county. >> the wind yesterday near the

fire were coming from the west, blowing the smoke away from the bay area. today the winds shifted to the east. the wildfires you see burning just to the east of sacramento, that smoke now you can see very visible, that plume is pretty thick on our satellite imagery, and the winds are now shifting to the east. that smoke is going to be blowing east over the next 24 hours, and the counties worried more about, solano, contra costa, napa, and alameda. the issue is for sensitive groups. not everybody will see the smoke but the air quality on sunday, from the north bay, the coast, inland, they do have a moderate risk for sensitive groups, meaning those with asthma and breathing issues. the smoke, the particulates, could cause concern over the next 24 hours. the good news, the wind will shift again tomorrow to the west but will bring changes for the smoke but also for our weather in the bay area. we'll talk about that with the accuweather seven-day forecast in a little bit.

>> concern is growing from for a teenageled girl who has been missing for two day. rebecca weaver what last seen in their bedroom. her family believes she ran away. she has a medical condition that requires medication and does not have it with her. she is 5'8", weighs 145 pounds. family members say a recent breakup with a boyfriend may have prompted her to leave. b.a.r.t. service is bag on schedule after an equipment problem caused major delays this month, two-ton crew truck derailed. initially shut down service between the north concord and pittsburg pay station. normal service resumed by 8:00. a. b.a.r.t. is trying to figure out what caused the derailment. >> caltrans closed a ten-mile stretch of highway 37 from vallejo to sears point for repaving.

california's trying to recruit more women and veteran firefighters. the firefighter career expo welcomed in this two groups so anyone was welcome to attend. featured hands on demos to fest

physical abilities. fire representatives were there to answer questions for potential candidates. organizers believe women and veterans could help build the next generation of california firefighters. an army of volunteers armed with brooms and garbage bags are cleaning up the state's shorelines, part of a california coastal cleanup week end. 300 volunteers are planting trees, picking weeds, and carrying away garbage. this group is at the india basin shoreline park in san francisco, picking up litter. volunteers said they're blessed with beautiful waterfront so they have a responsibility to take care of them. >> this is my community, and i love my community, and i like for it to like -- to be clean. >> it's going to rain soon and all of the pollution and all of the trash on the ground will get washed into the bay, cease-fire we pick it up toy we can stop it from getting in the water. >> groups in oakland, richmond, the delta, and santa cruz.

happening now in pennsylvania, massive man point for the gunman who murdered a state trooper and wounded another. the search is extremely dangerous because the suspect is a skilled woodsman and a trained marksman. >> these dense pennsylvanian woods are obscuring the distinction between hunter and hunted. a small army of law enforcement officers in pursuit of this man, 31-year-old eric frein, wanted for the ambush murder of a state trooper just over a week ago. but frein, crackshot and a practiced survivalist, may see things from a different point of view. through a sniper scope. >> if he wants to kill more cops, he's probably waiting for them to walk into his kill box. >> this man, who knows frein, suspects he is luring police instead of stalking them.

hospital employee is diagnosed with the disease. the employee worked in the nursery at the providence memorial hospital in el paso. health officials sent letters to parents and more than 700 babies, advising they undergo screenings for tb. health official says babies are more likely than older children to develop symptoms. the woman tested positive last month but may have exposed others as early as september last year. the entire african nation of sierra leone is in lockdown as health workers try fight the ebola virus. here's a look at the capital city, freetown. streets are empty. about 30,000 volunteers and healthcare workers are going through the country to distribute soap and educate people on how it spreads. ebola has killed more than 560 people and 2600 people total in africa since last december. trittics of the lockdown strategy say it won't be effective and fear it jeopardize
