a large oil spill cleanup happening right now on san francisco bay. many agencies, including the u.s. coast guard are working to contain the spill. we begin with developing news on the oil spill. it leaked from the ss jeremiah o'brien at fisherman's wharf. the oil is drifting to the hyde street harbor. cornell bernard is live at the cleanup site. >> crews are making progress,

containing this oil spill in this harbor, home to the city's commercial fishing fleet. the booms are catching the oil. the historic ship, the culprit for the spill. an oil sheen 150 yards long is lingering on the water inside san francisco's hyde street fishing harbor, but there's a full-scale mission to stop it from spreading. 8,000 feet of booms surround the harbor, the environmental firm cleaning up the mess says it won't be easy. >> very dense black oil, small amount can be spread pretty far. >> it's called bunker oil, heavy grade crude, found leaking from the ss jeremiah o'brien. the coast guard isn't sure much got into the bay. highs what is left over the gooey mess from the deck. >> it was reported anywhere from

five to 50 gallons, so we're still determining the quantity. we have coast guard inspectors on board, doing soundings of the ship's tanks and working with the crew to identify how much was discharged overboard. >> the coast guard believes impact to fish and wildlife will be minimal but signs are going up where swimmings now offlimits. >> you know, i'm going in anyway. >> this swimmer and his friend decided to risk it, oil spill or not. 20 minutes later we were there when he returned to shore. >> did you see any oil in the water. >> i didn't see any oil in the water. i'm not a seeing anything right now. i don't know if you see anything. but, you know, oil probably spreads. i think it's -- >> back live here in the harbor where the cleanup is continuing tonight. the coast guard is now in charge

of this large operation, which may take another two to three days to complete. at this point it is inclear who will be getting the bill for the cleanup. live in san francisco, abc7 news. >> to developing news from the fire lines as crews struggle to gain ground on a wildfire burning east of sacramento. the iron many try agent month was cancelled. this is time lapse video from the nevada laboratory showing the smoke blowing into south lake tahoe. flames have destroyed ten homes and 22 outbuildings, keeping 2800 people from their homes. the fire started eight days ago, has grown to 128 square miles and is 10% contained. in madera county crews are making statey progress against a wildfire near bass lake. now 97% contained, 320 acres,

evacuation 0 ordered have been lifted. of buildings have been damaged or destroyed. >> a 2.7 earthquake hit napa today. an emotional rebuilding fair is just wrapping up in napa. the idea is to help those who experience tension, anxiety, and most traumatic stress after last month's quake. the fair offered free massages, yoga, therapy, and behavioral help for pets. >> a bicyclist is in critical condition after being hit bay carne berkeley hills. the investigation shut down the intersection for several hours. the driver of the car stopped the scene and is cooperating with police. as you can see they collected several bags of evidence. the cyclist suffered what police call life-threatening injuries. new details about a double-murder in richmond. police identified the victims as 23-year-old dayton daily and 20-year-old clarence wallace.

they were shot to death a block from lincoln elementary school. officers are trying to determine if the shooting is connected to gunfire on thursday when a nearby apartment building was sprayed with more than 40 rounds. police say that shooting was gang-related. >> oakland police are searching for a gunman after a deadly shooting in the castle mont neighborhood last night. he was standing on the sidewalk when he was shot and people nearby drove him to a hospital. a missing teenage girl from santa rosa is back with her family tonight. rebecca went missing wednesday night. her family notified police this morning that she is safely home. she had been staying with a friend, and was up aware police were looking for her. >> police have captured the fifth and final inmate who escaped from a central valley jail. he was caught two hours ago. four other men were captured last night, after anonymous phone tips to police.

it's not a nope how they escaped from the jail. they were gone for an hour before anyone noticed. the men are being healed o. charges including attempted murder and armed robbery. >> pennsylvania authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant as the manhunt for eric frein reaches its ninth day. the 31-year-old survivalist is suspected of using a high-under pear erred rifle to open fire from the woods, killing one trooper and injuring another. a neighborhood was searched where he lived with his parents. last night they lifted a shelter in place order. thousands of environmentalists and others concern about climate change rallied today ahead of u.n.'s debate on the crisis in new york city. tens of thousands of activists marched in the streets of manhattan this morning, warning climate change is destroying the earth. more than a thousand gathered in solidarity with the new york city protest, for the northern california people's climate

caltrans has re-opened a ten mile stretch of highway 37 from vallejo so toe to sears point ahead of schedule. highway 37 is scheduled to be closed again next weekend for additional maintenance. a wildfire in the small town of weed near the oregon border is now contained but not before destroyed 150 homes. among them, this family's home which they built themselves. along with it the family others entire savings. all she wanted was to find her wedding ring. fire crews sifted through the rubble for hours and suddenly it appeared. >> it's like i told my daughter,

cloudy mild night on the way, sunnier skies will prevail for the evening, and then showers mid-week. our satellite imagery, we'll show you the storm we're tracking. we're in between two systems. we have an upper level low responsible for all of the cloud cover over the weekend. that low is pushing to the east. allowing for more sunshine monday and tuesday. then we have a slow moving cold front sliding to the east and that will bring shower chances. this evening clouds moving back in, most of the bay area waking up to morning clouds but as the low pushes the east that'll allow the clouds to evaporate. then the chance of rain in the week ahead. the cold front beginnings out to the west, progressing to the east, wednesday afternoon, the pacific northwest getting showers and then the cold front move intuse the bay area, wednesday afternoon, and into
