you all. i'm t.j. holmes. >> i'm reena ninan. millions of americans are battling downpours and flash flooding on the way to work this morning. >> you can see the storm tracking moving from the mid-atlantic north to new england and west into pennsylvania. plan on heavy rain, wind and a lot of flooding, folks. >> overnight, northwest texas, lubbock flooding, especially along texas tech university stadium. the flooding so intense and sudden fire crews are to rescue motorists. but worse in central florida, the area in and around daytona beach is drowning. 10 inches in some spots. turning kayaks into the preferred form of transportation. >> when you pull up and the water level is up to the top of the mailbox, it's a little concerning. >> the cleanup can't get started

arrest in the search for the missing university of virginia student, hannah graham. >> 32-year-old jesse matthew taken into custody, found more than a thousand miles away in galveston, texas. he was the last seen with her before she vanished in sharltsville, virginia. her whereabouts are still a mystery. >> the reward is up to $100,000. this case is not close to over. we need to find hannah graham. >> police are not saying what evidence they found in his apartment or car. he is expected to be extradited to virginia. also right now, the escalating fight against islamic extremists in syria and wherever they are hiding. >> president obama called on all the nations of the world to join the fight of what he called, quote, their network of death.

>> let's get the latest. alexander marquardt joins us live by phone from turkey just across the board from syria. >> reporter: good morning. here on the ground we have seen the second large wave of air strikes inside syria since they started, along the border with iraq in the eastern part of the country. 13 targets hit, one isis vehicle and 12 of what are called modular oil refineries. carried out by american aircraft along with saudi arabia and uae. and they have taken over the oil facilities in eastern syria, selling the oil and making $2 million a day off of it. so one of the coalitions main goals is to choke off that money supply that's funding isis operations. as this point we have seen the spectrum of targets that the coalition is going after from the isis control centers to weapons depots to fighters

themselves. and now their oil assets. >> and, alex, what are you seeing from your vantage point there? the response being to the strikes inside syria? >> reporter: well, it's been a mixed bag. even though the u.s. isn't working with the assad regime, coordinating with them, the regime gave approval of the strikes. because isis is a mutual enemy for the u.s. and the regime. and the rebels are angry because the coalition strikes are not targeting the regime as well. those rebels saying the regime is taking advantage to intensify its attacks on rebels and civilians. but there are some civilians very much in favor of the strikes. the syria/kurds flooding across the border by the tens of thousands because isis is surrounding their villages, they

are very thankful for the u.s.-led strikes. >> abc's alexander marquardt live in turkey. thank you so much. president obama wraps up his visit to the u.n. with another urgent call to action, this time on africa's deadly ebola epidemic. >> good morning, caroline. >> reporter: good morning. the president expected this morning to ask other world leaders to commit resources to fighting the growing ebola epidemic. something experts tell us is critical in stopping the spread of the deadly virus. it is the worst outbreak in modern history. the growing epidemic of ebola in west africa. the focus later this morning when president obama meets with other world leaders at the u.n. >> the outbreak overwhelms health systems in western africa and threatens to move across borders.

>> reporter: the president has promised to lead international efforts, committing millions of dollars and 3,000 troops to build treatment centers overseas. now he's looking for others to help as well. dr. richard besser says what's needed is specific. >> no one has committed to put the people in the treatment centers to provide care. some of these countries are going to have to say, you're building the treatment units, we're going to put people in there to take care of patients. >> reporter: there are 5,000 cases of ebola reported so far. that much higher according to experts, due to underreporting. the number could rise to 1.4 million by january. a worst-case scenario, according to dr. besser, but there is an alternative. >> if we ramp up and really take charge of this, this could end by january. very different scenario. >> reporter: while experts say

it is not likely ebola will spread to the united states, the chances increase with every day the virus ravages out of control. and the administration is ramping up u.s. involvement in the ebola epidemic. the state department naming a new position, ebola coordinator. this person will work with foreign governments and international partners for a speedy and global response. we are live at the u.n. this morning. >> caroline costello, thanks. a new trial date for the surviving suspect in the boston mars on this bombs. the death penalty trial has been pushed back two months, now january 5th. but the judge denied a defense request to move the trial to washington, d.c. he said there's no reason to assume that a fair jury cannot be selected in massachusetts. a massive wildfire in

welcome back. there's some new hope that the nation's lagging housing market could be ready for a recovery. new government numbers show sales of single family homes soared to the highest levels in more than six years, up 33% from last year. sales of existing homes fell, breaking four months of gains. and the price of the obamacare website, claiming that website has cost more than $2 billion since it was established. now, of course, it was harshly criticized right after the debut. spending for the portal has been a major dispute between the obama administration and congressional republicans. and apple pulled the update to ios 8. receiving many complaints from

live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. good thursday morning at 4:28. mike called it: rain is here. we should have played the lottery. you were right on. the storm came through like we hoped. light-to-moderate home, santa cost rose, petaluma, rohnert park, off the coast, too , is are we see it now. the big picture shows the storm is getting fed from the south as it slowly moves off to the east. in the next hour or hour and a half, everyone will deal with light-to-moderate rain. you can see it on the san mateo bridge. it is that far south.

breaking news. evacuations are underway in mountain view after a gas odor that led to the discovery of two bodies in an apartment. matt, what is the latest? i spoke with a captain. they are not going to release a statement. you can see they are about to do an operation with a couple of firefighters getting packed up into haz-mat suits. the two bodies are still inside. they will try to determine what the gas snell is and do something and let us know what, when they do that operation for those on california street other than the two apartment building, everyone is let back in. the bodies were discovered last night in an apartment with a bad gas
