gone. behind my, what's left of a dry-cleaning business downtown. it's rid tagged. two men now facing arson charges, and many want to know why. intense flames went through the dry cleaners. when the sun came up, the owner was in shock, everything was gone. >> nothing i can do. this is my life. >> reporter: daniel and his family have owned the cleaners for 30 years. next door, angela's restaurant also suffered extensive damage. and another business was getting ready to open in ten days. >> there's not much to say. >> reporter: police say a total of eight fires were intentionally set between 1:00 and 5:00 in the morning. including this fire which engulfed the rear of a home in san antonio street and spreading to the victorian next door.

two families got out safely. what did you wake up to? >> i heard people screaming fire, fire! get out of the building! >> reporter: police arrested two suspects this morning for setting the fires, but their motive is still unknown. >> i can tell you that they are two adult males. one is a resident of alameda who's 27. and the other male is a transient male who frequents oakland/alameda area. >> reporter: the fire department is investigating whether the two are responsible for two fires set along international boulevard. daniel ing doesn't know why he would be targeted. what do you want to say to the people who started this fire? >> the thing about the other people, the life, don't be selfish. >> reporter: the investigation continues. in alameda, abcnews. bands performing a benefit

concert played to a full house this afternoon. ♪ raise the power >> napa valley rocks marks the end of a four-day celebration to help businesses and residences affected by the quake. they want to raise all the money will be administered by the relief fund. oakland police believe a man died when someone hit him on the head after he stole something from a store. it happened at the chevron extra mile market on san pablo avenue and 36th street around 7:15 this morning. officers are questioning someone. they have not said if that person works at the gas station. detectives are also looking to see if surveillance videos captured what happened. police are investigating a crash that killed a driver on

highway 121 in sonoma county. two people in another vehicle were taken to the hospital. the chp says good samaritans stopped to try to help the victims. the accident was a head on. all lanes were shut down while investigators investigated. they were forced to use flash bang grenades to subdue a man who threatened to kill himself during a dui stop. it happened near clements street. officers pulled over a man they say was armed with a knife. the man cut himself and threatened suicide, but police were able to subdue and detain him. it appears the effort by a group of pro-palestinian prot t protesters to block this port was successful.

a union spokesman says dockworkers did not unload cargo from the ship because of safety concerns. protesters blocked workers from driving into the terminal yesterday. they're demonstrating in response to recent israeli action in the gaza strip. we should learn tomorrow if san francisco court workers will strike. union workers rallied outside the civic center courthouse before taking a strike vote wednesday. and the votes will be counted tomorrow. the members of the 1021 seiu union say negotiations with court manamen management have s. 49ers defensive end ray mcdonald played together against the eagles while the domestic case against him has stalled. his arraignment for tomorrow has been canceled. it's the second time it's been canceled since he was arrested late last month after police

more than 30 people are feared dead tonight after a

volcano erupted in japan. rescuers found the bodies near the peak of the volcano. mt. ontake sent ash into the air and blanketing the surrounding area in ash. about 250 people were initially trapped on the slope but most made their way down by last night. in the netherlands, a monster truck crashed into a crowd of people. it veered over after going over a line of cars. at least a dozen people were hurt. show organizers think either the truck's gas pedal got stuck or its brakes failed. powerful storms brought damage and flooding to parts of arizona this weekend. take a look at this. the wind so strong it blew off part of a roof at the airport.

the forecast does call for an isolated shower through the evening. and then we have autumn warmth that is arriving and will peak by friday of the workweek. low pressure will bring us the cloud cover, few isolated showers, but we are tracking a cold front, it will dive in and get the low out here and clear out the skies. then the pressure's going to bring us autumn warmth and crank the heat thursday and friday. that's when you can expect temperatures to soar into the 90s. by thursday we're in the upper 80s. we are forecasting a high of 90 degrees in the east bay come friday. so the warmth is going to be all around the bay area. so back to monday. coastal clouds. we'll see a few scattered showers early on. then lots of sunshine. the only place that will have the cloud cover, right along the
