good morning and thanks for joining us. i'm matt keller. we will start with a quick look at the weather. here's meteorologist lisa argen. good morning, lisa. >> good morning, matt. after some hot weather we have an advisory today. heat advisory some areas, but not everywhere. we are clear. temperatures in the 50s and upper 60s. and from our roof camera this morning we are looking at numbers ranging from 50 degrees half moon bay, 67 san francisco, 61 in san jose. another day of 900s for you, and for the next couple of hours we will continue to see the numbers drop just a little bit in napa. we are four degrees cooler in half moon bay and from the sutro tower camera this morning, nice and clear. a beautiful start to the day.

still 80s at the coast. looks like the sea breeze will kick in late. another warm day here. mid-and upper 90s inland. we looking at the heat advisory for these areas and the shoreline, also some strong waves to talk about, all that and when the cool down occurs coming up. matt. >> thank you, lisa. developing news from san jose this morning where a two-story townhouse is considered a total loss after a big fire raced through it last night. started just after 10:00. a car parked inside the ground floor garage caught fire and flames quickly spread through the home. three people escaped without being injured. one ran back inside the house to rescue dogs that were trapped inside. they all managed to get out safely. 40 firefighters were called out to get the fire out by midnight. the cause is under investigation. also in the south bay amarga hill elementary school teacher is in jail this morning accused of sexually assaulting a young student inside a classroom and

police are recovered there may be more victims. alyssa harrington has the story. >> 52-year-old john arthur lloyd is behind bars arrested on suspicion of alleged atouching a child. they say he touched a student inside paradise valley elementary school. >> it occurred at the school on two different occasions, twice within the last 30 days. >> and during school hours. lloyd was arrested at his home in hollister. the victim told a staff member here about her teacher's behavior. that person told the principal, who called police. the superintendent sent home a letter and put lloyd on administrative leave. >> the number one priority is student safety, and that student learning continue to happen at that school. >> parents are appalled by the allegations. >> it's shocking because it's a close school community. >> amelia said her da had him as

a teacher. she often stayed after school to get help on homework assignments. >> knowing she was there by herself and with two other students after-hours is concerning. >> he has been he school since 2008, but in the school district since 2000. he teaches fifth grade and created news let we're his students called room 9 times. detectives are urge parents to talk with their kids to see if there are more victims. abc7 news. a burglary police made an arrest of one of three sexual assaults reported near the u. c. campus last saturday, all involving fraternities. a 20-year-old is a u.c. berkeley student. he's accused of assaulting a woman at the frat house where he lives. they say he's not linked to the other two attacks which are under investigation. he's being held in berkeley jail on $100,000 bail. the family of an oakland teenage are declared brain dead say they have proof the girl is

not brain dead. she was declared brain dead last year after surgery in oakland. since then she's been on a ventilator in new jersey. now the family has released video reportedly showing her responding to her mother's voice. here's lilian kim. >> so she knows the difference between left and right, she knows her fingers. >> she said her daughter responds to her verbal commands. proof, she said, the oakland teenager is alive, despite having been claimed brain dead. in this clip she asks her to move her arm. very good! very, very good. >> and in this clip she asked jahi to move her foot. >> come on. there you go! >> she and other family members gathered at their attorney's office to present when they believe is evidence that jahi is not brain dead. here's a photo of her about to get an mri in the presence. experts retained by the family and an image of what the

attorney said is of the child's brain. >> there's jahi's mri. this is unequivocal proof that ja machine i has not had oar brain liquefied. >> it's sad. it's unfortunate they have not been put in a situation to accept reality. >> a bioethics medical professor has not seen the evidence but doubts she's alive. she said it's common for people who are declared, to have random movements if you videotape long enough you will have movements that correspond roughly with instructions. >> but despite the critics, her mother press on. she's going to court asking that her death certificate be reversed so she can get her home and get possible medical care in california. she's at an undisclosed location in new jersey. >> i said as long as i'm living and i'm living and as long as she has one i will never let anybody disconnect her. >> the court date is scheduled for thursday. in san francisco, lilian kim, abc news. health officials have

confirmed the first case of the weekly spreading enterovirus d-68 in san francisco. five cases are reported in the bay area this year. a san francisco child was admitted to a child last month, treated and discharged in good condition. across the state 14 had illnesses. yesterday one in los angeles had limb paralysis, which is rare. health officials say they are relieved the state has not seen as many cases as other parts of the country. >> i mean we definitely expect to see more cases, but today we believe it is positive that we have only 14 cases out of the very many we've tested for. >> novak seen is available for the enterovirus. >> an investigation by the california highway patrol found no retal situation during the construction of the new span of the bridge. and also caltran didn't violate

whistleblowers laws. but it left employees fearful for raising against the project. it did not address the safety of the bridge. >> habitat for humanity people were back on the job yesterday after a place was cleared of debris. two other homes were damned in a fire last fry. habitat for humanity expects they will be back to full strength on the site by next week. the habitat terrace is made up of 28 houses. they will still meet their goal of moving people into the home by 2016. when temperatures made it difficult for many across the bay area this week, in the east bay friday night football was a little tougher because of the heat. and it's also hard on firefighters keeping an eye on high fire danger. abc7 news reporter alan wang has the story from the east bay. >> don't take too much in. hydrate all day long. >> the mercury shot past 90 degrees in parts of berkeley and oakland. it was hotter here along the bay

than in antioch and pittsburgh. >> oh, my goodness. i'm melting. >> and by the end. the first quarter, the berkeley jv football team had experienced a total meltdown. vacaville leading 28-0. >> we are going to stay hydrated all day long and see if we can get the win today. >> how is the weather treating you? >> we aren't used to it. >> and the high temperatures equal high fire danger. >> you get a wind in this condition, things are going to escalate very quickly. >> but the winds are expected to be low this weekend. still, the fire district is staffing an extra engine company because it's been so dry. >> the low relative humidity is so low that is lends itself to rapid fire spread and fires start easily then. that's probably our biggest danger, if you will. >> response time is critical so firefighters are asking everyone to keep their eyes peeled for any signs of smoke. in the east bay, allen wrong, abc7 news.

>> good morning. a live look from our east bay hills camera pointing toward the city and the eastern span of the bay bridge, as we. looking beautiful this morning. no fog to speak of right now. lisa argen said that's going to change as we've got a hot saturday ahead. we are learning more about the night police arrested 49er ray mcdonald catch he was accused of abusing his pregnant fiancee. we reported exclusively thursday night that he called an officer around the time the 911 officer was made. vic lee has more. >> this was audio of the police dispatch the night ray mcdonald is accused of physically abusing his fiancee. listen closely. >> her fiancee, we are -- to the

center. >> the dispatcher said there's a new r. p., a new reporting party, meaning there was a prior 911 call to this incriminating one. who made that 911 call, and did it differ from this one? lawyers tell us the 911 calls are typically considered hearsay. that's why the cop who macdonald called that night is so important. reliable sources tell us the san jose police officer is sergeant shawn pritchard, and that he went to mcdonald's home after the 49er defensive end called him. those same sources say it was either before or about the time that a 911 domestic violence call was made. they tell abc7 news pritchard also works in a secondary job as security at 49er games. our sources say he was most likely off-duty at the time. but lawyers we spoke with say that doesn't matter. if this case goes to trial. attorney steven clark. >> on or off-duty really isn't important. it's fact that a police officer

made certain observations. and those observations are key in the d. a. evaluating when they should pursue this case to a trial. >> lawyer dennis luca, a former police officer, also told us it doesn't matter if you are off-duty. if you stumble across a crime scene, you are still an officer of the law and as such you can't violate your duty. >> if you cross that line and engage in any sort of behavior or conduct that interferes with an official investigation, you can be -- the department can take action against you personally. >> police sources tell us pritchard was most likely told to fill out a supplement police report outlining in detail what he saw and heard. and that could be one of the most important bits of evidence in determining when or not to file charges against macdonald. vic lee, abc7 news. just weeks after apple unveiled the i-phone 67 and

6-plus, the local tech type is planning another event for october 15th. they will introduce their newest ipads and macs. they said it will be a more laid-back affair. apple declined to comment >> we may know what tessa will unveil next week. a another version of their popular model s. earlier this week we showed you this mysterious event announcing the october 9th event. the palo alto car company is expected to reveal a prototype for a model 3 and maybe a self-driving car. when a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer, she often needs to stop working. abc7 news reporter lyanne melendez tells us about an organization that takes care of some of the household expenses while the patient focuses on the most important things, they are health. >> when anita was diagnosed with breast cancer, she thought she would be forced to drop out of school. that's when she heard of the

breast cancer emergency fund. >> i was thinking i can never reach my goal. but they stepped in, at least financially they give me the peace of mind and i can still have dignity and keep going to school, i can get through. >> that we can make it a lot easier for them to focus on their smith their families by covering their rent, utility bills, their basic living expenses. >> the majority of the women who get help live in under served communities. many are single moms. anita will now work at the organization to help asian women diagnosed with breast cancer navigate their way through the system. >> i found out, especially for the new immigrants, they don't know where to get help. they are lacking resources. >> october is breast cancer awareness fund. emergency fund has its yearly signature fundraiser called "this old bag" with designers and others donate handbags to be auctioned. the ritz-carlton is also a big supporter. we created a pink cocktail where

proceeds will be going back to the organization. >> the drink is called "the girl." for every cocktail sold, the emergency fund will get one dollar. the hotel will also donate ten dollars for each tea seating. it's part of the hotel's commitment to communities around the world. >> underprivileged children, poverty, environmental conservation in the communities in which we do our business. >> that was lyanne melendez reporting. the ritz-carlton will be lit up throughout the month to bring awareness to breast cancer. breast cancer emergency fund will have their big event october 17th at the bentley reserve. affordable housing advocates will protest the development of a luxury development complex in the mission district today. a group is calling on them to stop the drugs of a 300 unit complex at 15th and mission streets. here's video from a previous protest. they are upset over rising rents

and the rapidly changing neighborhood. it begins at 1:00 at 24th and york street. they will march to mission where they will hold a 3:00 protest. a councilman is feeling the heat after a testy exchange with a paratransit bus driver and it was all caught on camera. >> get over the white line on the beep beep. >> and beep beep. >> you ought to stay inside the line. beep beep. >> councilman gary acuses the unidentified bus driver of trying to run him over as he rode his bike through downtown santa rosa. on board cameras captured the tense exchange. the sidio was obtained by the santa rosa press democrat that shared it with abc7 news. right now east bay mud's water supply is at their lowest level in history. only four times before has it been this low. most recent in 1992. it was about 23,000-acre feet

lower. the district's biggest reservoir, comanche, is at 42% capacity and 51% of it's average. they point out the other residents plants score is 81% capacity and a year's worth of water is available even if there's no rain this winter. the drought and state wildlife officials are pulling out all the stops to protect the salmon run. the chinook are usually produced in hatcheries and they are making their way up the river for spawning. if the water isn't cool enough, the salmon won't hatch. so they are installing $1 million refrigeration units. the salmon industry brings in a balance and a billion and a dollars of business every year. >> right now we start out with the official sunrise. we won't be looking a at fog until the afternoon and you will feel that sea breeze up in the

north bay. san francisco later. but not before we see plenty of 80s by the coast. and we will be look at more mid-and upper 90s inland. it is a mild start out there for some of you. down to 48 degrees in napa this morning with 66 san francisco. the good morning half moon bay. 52. it's 59 in morgan hill with 63 in san carlos. of course, you heard about the 95-degree temperature yesterday in the city. now today it will be about 10 degrees cooler but it will warm up quickly to start out. 51 santa rosa, 48 petaluma, with 54 in fairfield and 56 in livermore. and finally from sfo we are looking at temperatures in the upper 60s here. so it will be hot throughout the weekend, but cooler tomorrow. the heat advisory today. but it has been cancelled for parts of the bay. i'll show you where. and then coastal cooling later on today. so here's a look at the heat advisory for monterey, santa cruz, the big sir coast, and the

bay shore here. so it's going to be pretty warm once again. by 2:00 you will begin to see the sea breeze along the coast. but we are expecting 80 degrees up near stinson. looking at bodega bay in the upper 70s, as well. it's all about a big area of high pressure that continues to hang on for another day. and then we will see the wind shift. temperatures will be cooling back. you know, long-range outlook already looks for another warmup by next weekend. so here's a look at the wind profile. switches around about 2:00. and light on shore flow will cool point reyes and the city and half moon bay today. but it will still be clear. it will be very nice day today if you head out earlier on to enjoy some beach weather. by about 2:00, 3:00, you will feel the sea breeze kick up and we are looking at a southwesterly big swell from santa cruz to stinson. very dangerous conditions once again. in fact, all across the state, down through san diego, looking at some high surf, as well.

look for 91 today in vallejo. 89 in oakland. so you know the sea breeze is going to be no where in sight with numbers climbing through the upper 80s. palo alto, 92 and in san jose. and at the boardwalk mid-80s with half moon bay 79. 96 in cloverdale. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. another hot day today. by far the hottest day out of the next seven. we will look for numbers to come down another ten degrees or so in some neighborhoods tomorrow, five or ten degrees. by monday and tuesday we are looking at more typical october weather with our coolest day perhaps the end of the upcoming work week. then we should go back in the other direction. warming up for next weekend. we will let you know how warm it will take my bicycle your community by keeping track of bay area weather on twitter at live doppler 7hd. always tricky at the end of a heat wave to predict when the sea breeze will kick in. >> it will be nice when it comes. coming up, the surprise in store

community foundation on instagram at abc7 news bay area. new this morning, police say several people are feared dead following a fiery multi-vehicle crash in southern california. it happened just before 59:00 last night in china, locate bed 35 miles east of los angeles. authorities say the crash caused at least three vehicles to become engulfed in flames. investigators say it's unclear if street racing is to blame for the crash. the cause remains under investigation. the beaches near vandergulikenburg air force base will be closed after a great white shark attacked a surfer. it bit a 28-year-old man on the knee yesterday evening. the shark was about 10 feet long. the surfer was rush to the hospital and is expected to survive. great white shark killed a surfer at the same beach in 2010 and in 2012 at another beach in the same area. the beach was too much to bear for one furry friend. he invaded their swimming pool not once, but three times.

home security cameras caught the bear's skinny dipping action. they are concerned the bear will come back to wade around in the pool again, especially when the playing in it. if you are a fan. hot air paw loons, albuquerque is where to be this weekend. hundreds lifting off into the skies as part of the albuquerque international balloon festival. it attracts tens of thousands of spectators from around the country. this year dozens will balloons will take off from five dozen elementary school in an effort to get elementary school kids familiar with them and what it takes to get them aloft. a man works his way into the personal lives of bay area residents and then took their money. and the bill signed by governor jerry brown to give consumers peace of mind in the wake of recent data breaches.

new this morning, a renewed call from president obama to help struggling middle class families in america. the president is calling for a higher federal minimum wage to provide some relief with the eroding middle class incomes. he made the request during his weekly address. it's time to stop punishing some of the hardest working americans. it's time to raise the minimum wage. it will put more money in workers' pockets. it will help 28 million americans. recent survey shows a majority of the small business owner supports a gradual increase to $10.10 an hour. the folks who keep blocking the minimum wage increase are running out of excuses. >> the republicans responded by blasting president obama for higher taxes and said that burdens small businesses. they made a call to repeal the president's affordable healthcare act. a new video was released by isis. this time it appears to show a be heading of a british hostage. now an american hostage is

threatened. martha raditz reports. >> this is the 26-year-old american, peter, on his knees. a hooded isis fighter at his side, warning he could be the next victim of isis executionner. he is a former army ranger. he was in syria has an aid worker, saying he wanted to find purpose in his life. he became a medic and founded an organization to help refugees. but last year, at almost exactly the same time, he disappeared. the isis fighter in the video by his side, direct ago message to president obama, saying you have started area bombardment which keeps striking our people. he then threatens to kill more americans. j before he is shown, another british aid worker, allan henning, appears to be executed. the executioner, like the one who killed the three other hostages, has a british accent,

but it is unclear when it is the same man. the u.s. and arab partners have been pounding isis targets in syria and iraq. we watched the nonstop operations from the u.s. aircraft carrier george h.w. bush just days ago with fighter jets loaded with bombs and missiles, headed for targets weather isis could be found. the targets are getting more difficult to spot, as senior officials said isis has now stopped using long convoys of vehicles, has taken off the black flags on equipment, and is trying to blend into the population. >> and that was martha raditz reporting. the man's family released a statement saying, quote, we ask everyone around the world to pray for the henning family, for our son, and for release of all people being held in the middle east and around the globe. marin county officials are putting a youthful twist on gun buyback events. later this morning kids can trade in toy guns violent video

>> he was getting them to invest their money in what turns out to be a nonexistent company. >> almeda did the district attorney nancy o'malley's office charged glay with stealing the money from his clients. there was no blake financial services, there were no investments, and nearly $300,000 had vanished. >> i was devastated to begin with, of course. and i was shocked. >> he had once been a legitimate broker and now his license is revoked. he's pleaded no contest to fraud and grand theft, and was sentenced in superior court to a year in jail. >> it affected me very deeply more many months. you think you can trust somebody and they betray you like this. >> michael finney, 7 on your side. >> a massive cyber attack against jp morgan chase may have left the company vulnerable to another one. they admitted the breaches larger than first thought. 76 million households and

77 million small businesses in all make it the largest breach yet. it could take months for the bank to change computer programs breachedly the hackers. names, addresses and phone numbers were exposed, but the company said no account information was accessed. in light of recent hacks. governor brown has signed a new law to protect consumers' personal information and make retailers obligated to help. it's inspired by last year's matt i have a data breach where millions debit and credit card numbers were compromised and is similar breach in neiman marcus stores. >> if someone buys your social security number, it then they have ready access to who you are, where you live, where you bank, where you shop, what credit cards you have and all your personal information. it can be extremely damaging. >>. now law takes effect

october 1st. it always allows tore credit monitoring after a breach of security. a battle in berkeley seems to have taken a nasty turn. it's about when they should impose a soda tax. some campaign signs have gone missing the last few days. one side is accusing the other side of stealing them. there was video showing people taking down the signs. they said they haven't taken any of the opposition's campaign signs. >> bay area fishermen are protesting a $7.5 million water bond on the ballot. they said they need it to repair the water infrastructure in california but the fishermen say it won't involve california's water jobs would destroy salmon and crab populations. fishermen argue building more dams to hold water we don't have is misplaced spending. they want it scrapped.

but still upper 60s in san francisco at the airport. here's a look at our roof camera right now. from 60 oakland, 61 san jose. half moon bay, a comfortable 50 degrees. and looking at 06 over in oakland. another 30 degrees of warming for most of you today. and from our east bay hills camera, the numbers look like this. upper 40s napa and petaluma by the delta. 54. 59 concord with a comfortable 56 in livermore. and 51 in santa rosa. sfo no delays with the clear sky. it's going to be another nice day around daly city, south city, the airport near 80 degrees today. hot inland for the weekend. but that really involves today everywhere and then parts of the bay tomorrow as the sea breeze kicks in late. heat advisory has been scaled back for parts of the north bay and east bay. and we are looking at the coastal cooling throughout the afternoon today. so here is where the heat advisory is from 11:00 until 9:00 tonight from our bay shore

in san francisco. you can see the east bay here. santa clara, monterey, and the big sur coast. but you notice the north bay and our far east bay not included in this. so we will be looking at another day of rapid warming today and then the sea breeze kicking in throughout the afternoon. that's going to set us up for a cooler day tomorrow. but this afternoon we will see plenty of sunshine. and the fog is not going to be coming in until probably after 2:00. 3:00. you will feel the winds before that. they will switch around in the afternoon. starting out light and we will still see the 70s from point reyes and half moon bay today. one last day of a warm beach day. but we also have a very strong southwesterly swell from stinson beach, all the way down to santa cruz. so, boy, what a day for the beach with the temperatures in the 60s. the ocean temperatures. but pretty dangerous out there. so do be careful. we are looking at numbers today once again in the lower 90s for san jose and santa clara.

but you head down toward morgan hill, how about 97? 86 in santa cruz. san mateo, 89. 92 los altos with the city coming in in the low 80s. 79 daly city. 80 stinson beach. 91 in petaluma. going from the 48 this morning to the low 90s throughout the afternoon. 92 in union city, and the inland valleys not hot one for you, 95 san ramon valley with antioch at 95. the accuweather seven-day forecast. so today even though we are going to get the cooling, it's coming late still in the 60s for our beaches early on. and by tomorrow we will see 70s at the coast, mid-80s around the bay. still some 90s inland and perhaps maybe a 930-degree temperature on monday inland. otherwise we will cool with seasonable temperatures from the 60s to the low 80s throughout the rest of the work week before it looks like perhaps another warming trend. so flirted with the rain early and now it's just out of control heat but just one more day. >> we got the two shots in
