5:06 pm
the game but first we go to abc 7 news reporter wayne freedman hanging out with the fans. >> reporter: we have fans in a very strange spot. a week ago if you told them there would be a game four in this series they would have taken it. last night they wouldn't have taken it. they wanted to win last night. if you have a game four, this is not a bad spot because you have a 2-1 lead going into game four. am i sounding a little crazy? giants fans are a little crazy. follow a team into playoffs long enough and the trip may color your judgment. in san francisco, that color would definitely be orange. you see it and maybe you wonder about omens, so obvious, road work ahead. does this mean a trip to st. louis or back to washington? or are we overthinking? >> overthinking, maybe. a little bit. >> reporter: a little? >> a little. >> reporter: then again, who can blame anyone after what happened yesterday. >> he's going to go to third and throws it away!

5:08 pm
the giants tonight to wrap up this division series? >> reporter: well, the key at any point in the post season is pitching. ryan vogelsong will go against gio gonzalez and trying to get that first run on the board because that takes the pressure off your pitcher. you think this team would be uptight but check it out. pregame, this might have been the loosest i have ever seen this group in a post season. they have a 2-1 lead which will make it a lot easier and the pressure is still on the nats to keep this series alive. but ryan vogelsong, very intense on game day and if he gets a little overamped i have to keep an eye on him. hunter pence told us if there's a manager in the game you want in this situation, it's bruce bochy. >> bochy's demeanor is extremely important. i think if your leader is a rock, is solid, as bochy is, if your leader is sharp as he is, it leaks into the team. we believe in him. there's faith and i think a lot
5:09 pm
can be said of faith. >> it's good, the mood, tempo, spirit of the club. we didn't think this thing was going to be easy. so they haven't changed anything. despite losing that game yesterday. i don't know, guys. the fellows are doing well. >> reporter: they're ready to play. it's a lot cooler and windier out here tonight. as i mentioned, the giants have never lost back-to-back games when trying to clinch a post season series. live at at & t park, mike shumann, abc 7 news. >> thanks very much. sometimes the best giants fans are the smallest. one grandparent posted this picture of their granddaughter. pretty cute. we want to see your team spirit. e-mail your fan photos. or you can tweet them to us. good stuff. still ahead on this tuesday night, a san jose surgeon goes above and beyond the call of duty. why he's worried about getting flagged. >> yes, i anticipate receiving a

5:12 pm
for medical emergencies. dr. mccray is used to the stress and the 24 hour long shifts. however, he's volunteering to be on call when he's not working at regional medical center of san jose. he's joining the sheriff's emergency response team as a reserve deputy. he will respond to active shooter incidents, for example, to render medical care. he sees a similarity in his hospital work and that of the s.e.r.t. team. >> they have to be very calm under stress and be able to think through situations that are very intense so i think that's one of the areas where law enforcement and medicine, particularly trauma surgery, have in common. >> reporter: he's gone through the police academy and will be issued a gun. he will need to protect himself and those around him while treating patients. >> the doctors are there to render aid, medical aid, not just first aid but medical aid, to anyone injured, whether it's a victim, suspect or an officer. >> reporter: in active shooter situations, paramedics and emts must be kept away for safety. minutes count with stabbings or
5:13 pm
gunshot wounds. that's a lesson learned from the columbine shootings in colorado so having a medical unit on call should bridge that critical time gap. being armed will provide an element of safety. >> it would be unethical for me to enter into that situation and put myself at risk without being able to defend myself or defend a team member or patient if i should be called to do that. >> reporter: after having completed almost all the training necessary to become a reserve deputy sheriff, dr. mccray says if he were to turn the clock back he might have considered a whole different career. but now he can blend the two careers together. in san jose, david louie, abc 7 news. evacuations were ordered today after a freight train derailed in canada caught fire and then released a giant cloud of toxic smoke. the accident happened near a town called wydena. about 26 cars derailed, six of which contained hazardous

5:16 pm
warranty expires. >> but there are ways to get repairs for free. 7 on your side's michael finney has the story. >> it's extremely frustrating to discover peeling paint or leaking sunroof on your car. making expensive post-warranty repairs is just a pain. and expensive. consumer reports says you might be able to get your car fixed for free if you know this one secret. getting your car repainted can cost several thousand dollars but if the paint cracks on some cars, the manufacturer may repaint it free. even if the car is out of warranty. you can sometimes save hundreds, even thousands of dollars in repair bills by taking advantage of unadvertised service programs. >> manufacturers often call these programs service actions or customer satisfaction campaigns. the consumers think of them as secret or hidden warranties and lots of cars have them. >> for example, this 2006

5:18 pm
aren't in a big hurry to broadcast the free fix. usually only a fraction of the cars will exhibit the problem. the car makers don't want tens of thousands of customers showing up demanding the free repair just in case. if you run into a problem, be sure to check in your car has a hidden warranty. consumer reports has compiled a list of more than 200 models that have them. we have all of that information on our website. just look under 7 on your side. >> that's a gold nugget right there. good to know. >> thank you. speaking of gold nuggets, how about this weather forecast. can we put it in a bottle and keep it like this? >> can you do something about that? >> i'm working on it right away. i wish i could. it is so much more comfortable out here today. cooler, definitely. high clouds out over the bay, watching the fog at the coast and of course, keeping an eye on the potential for you to see the total lunar eclipse tomorrow morning. let's check out live doppler 7 hd. we will talk about what the conditions will look like for viewing.
