president obama landed just a few minutes ago here in san francisco. the president stopped to talk to well wishers, hold some babies and take a few pictures. he is scheduled for two fund-raisers for the democratic party, one later tonight and the second tomorrow morning. good afternoon. i'm larry beil. >> i'm ama daetz. abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard is live at sfo. hi, cornell. >> reporter: the president has arrived in the bay area. in fact, he was just a few minutes late. normally he can be an hour or two hours late but just a few minutes late, arriving about 15 minutes ago here at sfo after a fund-raising trip in los angeles where he visited the home of actress gwyneth paltrow to raise money there.

the president looking pretty energetic as he came down the stairs of air force one, even taking time to walk over, meet some democratic donors on the flight line, even hold a baby and said a few kind words to folks who came out to greet him. the president in town for a couple of fund-raisers, democratic fund-raisers, where tickets cost from $500 to $32,000. police are warning drivers to avoid the area where he will be in just about 10 to 15 minutes, the w hotel. that is an area that's seen a lot of traffic gridlock over the last couple weeks. there's a convention going on at howard and third. that area is shut down so even before the president arrived today, the traffic was pretty bad. san francisco police warning anybody who is coming to the downtown area tonight to take public transportation if they can and perhaps you will get a glimpse of the president. we'll have more tonight at 6:00 on abc 7 news.

for now, i'm cornell bernard live at san francisco international. abc 7 news. >> thank you, cornell. with all the road closures because of the president's visit, get help navigating around traffic. >> join the abc group for free from google play or the app store. you will no longer see off-duty san jose police officers moonlighting at levi's stadium. this afternoon their department temporarily banned them from doing any security work for the 49ers and their players, this following an abc 7 news report from last week that a sergeant who worked security for the team received a personal call from niners defensive tackle ray mcdonald right around the same time as a 911 call was placed from mcdonald's home. that officer responded to mcdonald's house even though he wasn't assigned to that case. other officers then arrested mcdonald for domestic violence on his fiancee. prosecutors have not filed formal charges against mcdonald and the presence of that sergeant has complicated the

investigation. cal fire has given its fleet of 22 air tankers the green light to go back to work. the agency grounded the aircraft after one crashed in yosemite national park tuesday. the pilot, craig hunt from san jose, died in the crash. cal fire officials lifted the flight ban once federal investigators determined the crash was not related to mechanical problems that could impact other aircraft. today, the body of a pilot, craig hunt, arrived in san jose from the coroner's office in modesto. a small family service was held at a funeral home and that's where abc 7 news reporter vic lee is live with us right now. >> reporter: this is where craig hunt's body was brought late this morning for that brief family service. it was then taken to a crematorium in fremont. after he is cremated, his remains will be brought back here again to this funeral home and ultimately at some point, will be flown to indiana to a cemetery near his grandfather's farm. that is where he was born. but today, it was a sad day, a

day of honor, respect and good-bye. the procession started at the coroner's office in modesto. the hearse carrying the body of craig hunt along with a fire engine. when it arrived in san jose, a motorcycle unit escorted the convoy to the funeral home. across the street, san jose firefighters raised the american flag from aerial ladder trucks, a sign of respect for a fallen brother. >> this is just one more reminder of the ultimate sacrifice some of the firefighters have to pay and really, the risk that comes with doing the profession we chose to do. >> reporter: the brief service at the funeral home was private, only family members of the 62-year-old air tanker pilot. daughter sarah lauderback. >> my father was a true hero. it's a very very sad day. >> reporter: hunt was flying an air tanker on tuesday while battling a wildfire near yosemite. the plane hit the side of the

valley's granite wall and burst into flames, engulfing the ridge in fire and smoke. cal fire captain richard cordova recounted just how dangerous piloting an air tanker can be. >> some of the maneuvers they do, they are truly amazing heroes to our department. >> reporter: search teams recovered and brought hunt's body back over steep, rocky terrain wednesday morning. a ceremony was held in the field before his remains draped in an american flag were transported to modesto. a cal fire honor guard brought the casket inside the funeral home for the short service. hunt was a navy pilot who battled wildfires after he left the service. he was a chemistry teacher during the offseason but his first love was flying. >> the adrenaline is what had him going. he loved his job so much. i know he loved what he did and he died doing what he loved. >> reporter: hunt would have been a grandpa in january. sarah is expecting a baby girl, who in her words, will have a best friend in heaven for the rest of her life.

vic lee, abc 7 news. san francisco police say they received four 911 calls in the hours leading up to a shooting that left a woman in critical condition and her ex-boyfriend dead. police say officers responded to three domestic disturbance calls at the apartment overnight, even arresting the suspect at one point for public intoxication. after his release, police got another call when the suspect returned to the apartment demanding his things. >> the victim agreed and actually helped pack some of his personal effects and the police officer stayed at the scene to make sure the transaction was peaceful. unfortunately, we got another call at 5:00 and that's when the shooting had occurred. >> police are still trying to figure out where the suspect got a gun. the peninsula serial flasher may have struck again this morning. belmont police say two women were inside this coffee shop when they spotted a man inside a white bmw who appeared to be

fondling himself. he was visible through the coffee shop windows. take a look at the sketch released by police within the hour of a man who exposed himself yesterday in palo alto. police say it matches the description of belmont's flasher from this morning and this is the sketch of possibly another man or perhaps the same person who exposed himself to two girls monday and wednesday in palo alto. bicyclists riding through golden gate park are being warned about a series of attacks by robbers. at least three cyclists have been targeted recently. the last two happened early on friday and late on sunday. early last friday, excuse me. in both incidents, the bicyclists were knocked off their bikes by a group of men. the robbers threatened the victims with knives, then took off with the bicycles. >> that kind of shocks me there was an attack because i have never seen anything like that out here. i feel absolutely safe. i guess this happened at like one in the morning or something. i'm really not riding my bike that late at night. >> police say the same group of

men may be responsible for all three attacks. the bicycle coalition has asked police to increase patrols in the area during nighttime hours. a popular restaurant in san francisco's lower haigt neighborhood will close its doors monday after losing its battles with a notorious landlord. it has been in operation for 23 years. the landlord is terminating the restaurant owner's month-to-month lease after they refused to remodel and upgrade at their own expense. the landlord is robert shelton, the same person abc 7 news exposed for illegally trying to require that existing residential tenants make a minimum income of $100,000 per year. time for a check on the weather as we head into this fleet week weekend. >> spencer christian outside and looks like partly blue skies out there. >> we've got a lot of blue out here. we have a few low clouds and high clouds as well. mixed sky conditions but lots of blue, bright and sunny. a look at live doppler 7 hd, you can see there are more low clouds closer to the coastline

area facilities o'connor in san jose and st. louise in gilroy and seton medical center in daly city. prime health care, california's largest for-profit system, will acquire all its assets and liabilities. a prime representative today promised the hospitals will stay open forever but layoffs may be inevitable. >> based on their past history, we are not confident that they are going to be supported with the union in keeping the current staff we have here that has built a relationship and rapport with our community of all service types. >> united health care workers president dave regan released a statement today saying we are not going to roll over and risk watching prime health care cut services, raise prices and lay off care givers like they have done in so many other communities in california and other states. a parade of ships arrived in san francisco this morning. hundreds of people watched along the waterfront to see them dock. >> but once again, the highlight of fleet week will be of course the blue angels. abc 7 news reporter lyanne

melendez is live from the embarcadero with more. >> reporter: you know, they were only out for about 10 to 15 minutes max and here's what the blue angels tweeted. thanks for coming out. the fog won this one. please come again tomorrow. now, people weren't entirely disappointed, thanks to those ships behind me. this group of friends has made it a tradition to park their gmc classic motorhomes on treasure island every year for fleet week. the visibility wasn't ideal but they were excited to see the parade of ships make its way down the bay. >> the best thing is the flyover from the blue angels. that is the ultimate. >> reporter: the blue angels are the stars of fleet week. >> they cruise down, turned sideways like they were viewing our motor homes. >> reporter: these two decided to hang out here without their wives. >> she went with my grandkids to

phoenix and that may be her who's calling. it is her. >> reporter: she wants to know what you're doing. the public will enjoy touring the ships, including the "uss america," the navy's newest amphibious assault ship which will be commissioned tomorrow. others are here for training exercises. some of the pilots on board the "america" participated in this urban search and rescue training on treasure island with san francisco firefighters. >> as pilots, we get to see what the guys on the ground need from us, how we can assist them from the air. >> reporter: a group of latino first responders was also here to get ideas on how to search for victims of an earthquake. a powerful quake hit the central philippines last october. >> this should give us some idea how to do things right. we might be doing things but we are probably not doing it the right way. this is another opportunity for us. >> reporter: they too will have a chance to enjoy the festivities of fleet week. about one million spectators are drawn here every year.

it will be turning quite a bit warmer tomorrow. the warming will peak on sunday. remaining warm on monday. but there's a chance of rain on tuesday and wednesday with cooler, more autumn-like weather. overnight look for patches of fog near the coast and some passing high clouds. low temperatures mainly in the mid to upper 50s. here's our fog forecast or our forecast animation. overnight, we will see fog pushing up against the coastline. notice the waves of high clouds passing over in the early morning hours. that pattern will continue through the early morning hours of sunlight. by midday into the afternoon, we will see sunnier skies, fog confined mainly to the coast and mainly sunny over the bay. as we look at the wider satellite image, you see as the high pressure builds in to bring us our brief weekend warmup, it is going to be brief because coming not far behind is the cold air mass associated with this storm system moving out of the gulf of alaska that will bring us a little fall chill and some rain arriving next week. let's set the maps in motion starting on monday. notice the rain moving in on

tuesday and lingering until wednesday, then late wednesday, we will see the rain taper off. we will have a little bit of wet weather which we badly need. but tomorrow, no wet weather in sight. sunny skies, high temperatures in the south bay, mainly in the low to mid 80s, about 82 at san jose. 86 in los gatos and morgan hill. on the peninsula, look for highs ranging from mid to upper 70s up to about 80 at redwood city. on the coast, it will be foggy or partly foggy with highs ranging from about 68 pacifica to 70 at half moon bay. downtown san francisco will see a high of 71 tomorrow. 69 in the sunset district. north bay, nice and sunny and warm with highs ranging from 83 at novato to 86 at santa rosa and 85 at napa. east bay highs, 75 in oakland, 77 san leandro, up to 79 in fremont and 80 at castro valley. the inland east bay will be nice and toasty with highs in the mid to upper 80s, about 86 at walnut creek, 87 at fairfield and livermore, 88 at antioch.

in the headlines at 4:30, cal fire has cleared all of its 22 air tankers to get back to work after one of them crashed near yosemite national park tuesday. this as the body of pilot craig hunt returned to san jose. cal fire tweeted this picture today of a memorial featuring an air tanker propellor set up at the cal fire aviation base in sacramento as a tribute to hunt. president obama is in the bay area tonight. air force one arrived at sfo about an hour ago. the president will speak at a fund-raiser tonight at the w hotel in downtown san francisco. tomorrow, he will attend a roundtable to raise money for the democratic national committee.

today, officials at the hospital where an ebola patient died this week are making changes to the way they screen patients. their handling of that case was part of the discussion today at a homeland security hearing. abc news reporter marcy gonzalez has more from dallas. >> reporter: the family of the first person who ever die of ebola in the u.s. releasing his medical records to the associated press today. reportedly showing that when thomas eric duncan first went to this dallas hospital, he not only told the nurse he had recently been to west africa, his temperature was alarmingly high, 103 degrees. still, he was sent home. days later, duncan was rushed back to the hospital and admitted, dying there on wednesday. his case, part of the focus of a congressional hearing held this afternoon at dallas-ft. worth international airport. >> we must learn from these missteps and ensure that proper procedures are established and followed should another case arise in the united states. >> reporter: duncan's family now confirming he has been cremated

as the first american ebola patient expressed his sympathy today. >> my heart is broken for his family. >> reporter: meanwhile, a satisfacto sheriff's deputy who issued the quarantine order to the home where duncan was staying and was later hospitalized with symptoms tested negative for ebola, today sharing his fear and relief. >> i broke down crying. i just said i guess it was just a load off my chest. it's a wonderful feeling to know you're going to be okay. >> reporter: efforts ramping up to keep ebola from spreading from west africa, where the death toll keeps climbing. now more than 4,000 people there have died from the virus and tomorrow, jfk will become the first of five u.s. airports to start additional screening of passengers from that region. marcy gonzalez, abc news, dallas. tensions are high in ferguson, missouri as that area prepares for what is expected to be four days of large scale protesting and marches. the latest protests come in the wake of another fatal police

shooting of a black 18-year-old. there have been rallies on and off since august when a white police officer shot and killed unarmed black teenager michael brown. the state grand jury is hearing evidence in that case and the justice department is also investigating. president obama says the awarding of the nobel peace prize to children's rights activists is a victory for everyone who strives to uphold human dignity. today the committee awarded malala yousafzai, the pakistani teenager who was nearly killed for her activism. >> this is not end of this campaign which i have started. i think this is really the beginning. >> reporter: malala yousafzai, the 17-year-old pakistani education activist is in the spotlight again this morning, becoming the youngest person ever to win the nobel peace prize.

authority. a lot of activity happening right now along san francisco's waterfront. you see a lot of boats on the bay today. fleet week events are in full swing. >> that's right. the celebration of our armed forces is also a time for the military to share tips on disaster preparedness. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield has that story. >> reporter: the stars of the sky always draw huge crowds but there is plenty to see down on the ground this weekend, too. fleet week attractions have taken over. one highlight is this amphibious combat vehicle that is used in the water and on land. >> a lot of people are surprised, not many people know what this is. we usually tell them this goes in water. they're like wow, so cool. >> reporter: also, a mobile hospital. the military uses this overseas but also bring to san francisco if a big earthquake hit and first responders needed help. >> what we want to do is showcase how we work with them

in the real case of a disaster. these are the same capabilities we would bring to assist the people. >> reporter: the "uss america" will be open for tours sunday and monday. this is the nation's newest amphibious assault ship. then of course, there are the blue angels. even members of the other branches of the military are excited about this show. >> i think we might pull out our cell phones and take a few videos and photos. >> reporter: while the service men and women are ready to welcome you to fleet week, they are visitors, too and say they appreciate the welcome they have received here in san francisco. >> we are getting a great reception. as we're talking down the street, people are thanking us nonstop, picking up tabs at the bar. things like that. it's been really cool. >> reporter: the show isn't just in the sky but also on the water. look at these ships parading into the bay. this parade happened this morning but the ships will be available to tour all weekend long. city officials estimate that one million people will visit san francisco's waterfront over the weekend.

in washington, state troopers have been caught ignoring cops who are speeding. fellow drivers were so outraged by what they saw they recorded it. >> it's another one. >> pretty good one. >> yeah. had 86 on that one. >> logger bill gilham started recording radio chatter from the police scanner between the airplane spotter and the troopers located on the ground. >> during that same period they were stopping civilians, if you will, and issuing tickets for people doing 10 and 12 miles an hour over the speed limit, yet officers were doing double that and didn't even get talked to. >> it turns out police and sheriff's deputies from around the region were late to a training conference. the state highway called the speeding to the attention of those at the conference and their chiefs. gilham says he would like to see the state patrol throw out all tickets issued that day to be

fair but only a prosecutor or judge has the authorized to dismiss a citation. a devastating leak for users of the photo sharing app snapchat. hundreds of thousands of private photos have leaked online even though the app is designed to delete the photos within ten seconds after they are viewed. snapchat is blaming the leak on an unauthorized third party app which actually saved users' photos and videos. the social media site says its own servers were never compromised. it's believed the leak includes illegal child pornography include photos teenagers took of themselves. half of snapchat's users are teens who thought the files would disappear immediately. a wells fargo employee e-mailed the company's ceo asking for a $10,000 raise for himself and 2,000 fellow co-workers. i'm sure that went over well. he copied the e-mail to about

200,000 of his fellow colleagues and the ceo personally made more than $19 million last year. so the note reads with the increasing focus on income inequality in the united states, wells fargo has an opportunity to be at the forefront of helping to reduce this by setting the bar. a wells fargo spokeswoman said the bank offers employees market competitive compensation that significantly exceeded federal minimums. >> worth a shot. 7 on your side's michael finney is here to answer your questions sent to him by facebook, twitter, e-mail. your first question, if you have facebook, what rights do consumers have in asking for clarification of where donations go? >> that's a great question. they are supposed to tell you if you ask a charity where do their donations go, how much of it goes to program, how much of it goes to running the program. what you are supposed to look for is 20% in operation, 80% in

actual charitable purposes. i like far less than 80% but some major charities are just at 80 so you might want to check that out. there is guide star, the better business bureau and the california state attorney general keeps a data base. check those out before you give money to anyone. that's extremely important. also be careful with sound-alike charities. rather than being the cancer society, it will be the cancer organization. >> oh, right. >> very very careful. >> sheryl asks why is there a product on my store shelves that has been recalled because of listeria bacteria? >> i got to tell you, it shouldn't be there. that's an official recall. that's from the usda, united states food and drug administration. it shouldn't be there. i would not assume the store did something bad. i would assume it was overlooked. i would report it to the store and see if it goes away. if it doesn't go away, you want to report it to the usda. also report it to the local

health department. usda will want to know about it on a macro scale. local health department will make sure it's off the shelves. >> dorothy e-mails what recourse do i have with a company that made an appointment to service my stove and did not show up for the appointment. >> isn't that frustrating? there you are. you take a half day off work, they don't show. by law, if the company has at least 25 employees, they've got to have that many, they have to give you a four-hour window. then they have to arrive during the four-hour window. their only exception to that is if for some reason they can't get there. say horrible traffic, it snows, they can't get there, something like that. then they have to call you immediately, say they are not going to make it and then give you a two-hour window for the next appointment. now, if they don't make the first appointment you are just angry, you can take them to small claims court, you can sue them for up to $600. small claims court are pretty good about awarding it but

officers responded appropriately to a domestic dispute that sadly turned deadly. abc 7 news reporter laura anthony joins us now from san francisco with more. laura? >> reporter: we just learned the name of the suspect in this case, the man who apparently shot himself here this morning. his name is cedric young, jr. we do not yet know the identity of the woman who is fighting for her life, his ex-girlfriend. in the meantime, police told us as well that young had a prior arrest two years ago for domestic violence, but that that charge was dropped by the d.a. and that the officers who responded here several times overnight didn't know about that. >> we were actually called out to this residence multiple times in the last several hours. >> reporter: san francisco police confirmed they received four 911 calls from this apartment before a final call at 5:00 a.m. reporting shots fired.

>> his roommate has been shot. i believe he was hiding in the closet. >> reporter: a young woman suffered a critical chest wound and her ex-boyfriend was dead apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. >> had he made threats, was she afraid of him? >> based on the initial accounts i have from the police officers that were at the scene, no, the interaction that the police officers observed between the two were all cordial. there was no verbal arguing. >> reporter: at 8:30 last night, police received the first 911 call but the victim hung up when it seemed the situation was resolved. at 9:15, she called again. officers responded and persuaded the man to leave. at 10:00, another call. the suspect was arrested for public intoxication but he stayed in jail for just a few hours. at 4:00 a.m., another 91
