so you can welcome your family home... for the first time. chase. so you can. here today, to communicate about a healthcare worker who has contracted the ebola virus. >> centers for disease control and prevention confirmed that texas health care human being worker who cared for an ebola patient has tested positive for ebola. the first time someone has contracted ebola onest soil. it's what health officials and the american public feared. we now have the first caisson's of the deadly ebola virus spreading from one person to another. here's the latest from dallas. reporter: this hospital in dallas, another ebola case.

a health care worker who treated the patient who died from the vie rust last week, now infected. >> she identified symptoms immediately on onset. she was isolated promptly. >> officials from texas health presbyterian hospital say the worker filed guidelines, including wearing full protective gear while caring for thomas eric duncan. but the cdc says the infection shows there war a breach in protocol. officials saying there's no risk to the community, but sending out a reverse 9-1-1 call towater the healthcare worker's neighbor. >> a healthcare worker in your area has tested positive for the ebola virus. >> workers rush to decontaminate her car, and apartment complex. >> as president obama was briefed on the first transmission of ebola ever in the u.s., the cdc says they're investigating and offering more

training to the staff at the hospital, adding they are prepared for the possibility of more cases here. >> unfortunately, it is possible in the coming days that we will see additional cases of ebola. this is because the healthcare workers who cared for this individual may have had a breach of the same nature. >> we're told one of the healthcare workers' close contacts is in isolation as a precaution. those 48 people believed to have had contact with the first patient, thomas eric duncan, are still being monitored and still have shown no symptoms. marcy gonzalez, abc7 news, dallas. >> developing news in southern california, where los angeles county health officials now say an airline passenger suffering flu-like symptoms was not at risk for ebola. the passenger was sick onboard a flight thatland at lax from kennedy airport in new york. the united airlines plane was briefly taken to a remote area out of ebola concerns.

nurses here in the bay area are raising the alarm over what they say is the look of guidelines and safety measures in the treatment of ebola. they took their concerns public today outside kaiser permanente medical center in oakland. the nurses' union says the hops treating ebola patients in in nbc and texas have set higher safe standards than those recommendedded by the cdc. the union is calling on the cdc and kaiser to upgrade emergency preparations. >> we believe peel transporting waste are being better protected than the nurses in the hospital. >> the union wants proper hands-on training and protection for health workers exposed to ebola. kaiser says that it is, quote, fully prepared to evaluate and treat suspected and identify cases of ebola disease while providing the it mose protection for all our healthcare providers. there are daily developments on the ebola crisis.

you can get news alerts and other breaking news with our abc7 news app. it's free to download on the apple's app store or google play. developing news now. a man is dead after being swept out to sea while fishing. it happened on rodeo beach in marin county. sergio quintana is live the coast guard station in sausolito. what have you learn? reporter: well, one of the two men who were swept out was plucked out of the water by a coast guard rescue crew. they attempted life-saving measures on him all the way on the trip here to the coast guard station but unfortunately, shortly after he arrived here he was pronounced dead by paramedics. this happened at noon. national park service lifeguards say they heard calls from help from marine band radio two men had been swept into he water at rodeo beach in marin county. lifeguards found one man clinging to the rocks. they rescued him and rushed him

to a hospital. the second man was spotted a short time later and was retrieved from the water by that coast guard rescue boat crew. a spokesperson for the national park service says right now they're trying to figure out exactly how the two men were swept into the water, but there is a high-surf warning in effect from the bay area beaches here all the way down to the monterrey bay area. beach goers are being warn that these high surf warnings are going to be in effect throughout the evening. that will include the possibility of sneaker waves and high rip currents. reporting live in sausolito, abc7 news. >> as you mentioned, beach goers have been warned to keep an eye out for the dangers the high surf and strong rip currents. let's get to drew tuma with more on that. >> we continue to have these active warnings in effect because of the risk of rip currents. live doppler 7hd showing you a quiet picture, but the problem we're having, a wind out of the

north and northeast, anywhere from 17 to 20 miles-per-hour. we have had gusts nearing 35 to 40 miles-per-hour throughout the afternoon. this active wind will continue to be with us throughout the next 12 hours. we have the beach hard statement in effect through late tonight, meaning we have the large northwesterly swells, anywhere from 10 to 12 feet possible. creating dangerous strong rip currents and the sneaker waves. the good news, this wind is going to relax over the next 24 hours, but the wind will bring changes to our air temperature and also the chance for rain. details in the forecast in a bit. >> one man is dead and two others are in the hospital following a shooting in east oakland. police responded to the shooting at 9:30 last night on 83rd 83rd avenue and a street. three men had been shot, one died at the scene. two others were taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening wounds. police believe there were four armed suspects at the scene, but so far there have been no arrests. just half mile april from

the shooting there was a second shooting shooting in east oakland. the gunfire was reported at 8:00 a.m. on international boulevard. these are photos from the scene. the victim was taken to the hospital in critical conditionment one armed suspect was involved but that person has not been located. it's still not known if the two shootings are related. there's much more still to come, including a picture perfect sendoff for the blue angels during fleet week, and the boot it's giving to businesses and fundraisers. this is the week of giant pumpkin weighoffs. we'll tell you about one that it's a fresh approach on education-- superintendent of public instruction tom torlakson's blueprint for great schools. torlakson's blueprint outlines
