their kids and a short time ago, a district administrator made this announcement to parents assembled here. >> this student drove a vehicle to school. they were being escorted to their car right now. they are not allowed to go to their lockers. they will be able to get in their car and then drive home. >> i'm from the denver area. i watched columbine, you know, the whole shooting that happened. when i saw the kids with their hands on their heads here, i was like i got to go. >> reporter: when we spoke to that mother, she had not located or even heard from her son yet but she was confident that he was okay. in fact, there were no injuries that we know of. students who normally get picked up here at school were bussed to the district office which is about two and a half miles from here. so as far as we know at this point, on the irvington high school campus behind me, there are no more students. we are told that police will maintain a presence here for the

foreseeable future to do one last sweep or security check of the campus before classes resume tomorrow. in fremont, laura anthony, abc 7 news. >> thanks very much. an urgent response tonight from president obama after a second health care worker in the u.s. contracts ebola. 29-year-old is getting treatment in emory hospital in atlanta. she arrived moments ago. we want to take a look at her arriving in the airport and the ambulance that will take her to the hospital, where two other patients survived the disease. health officials flew her there. president obama addressed the nation saying he directed the centers for disease control to send rapid response teams to any hospital with an infected patient. >> if we follow the steps, if we get the information out, then the likelihood of widespread ebola outbreak in this country are very, very low. >> vinson is one of two health care workers who treated a

liberian man who died of ebola at a dallas hospital. both wore protective gear, gowns, gloves, masks. this is the man who died. the cdc says the nurse was diagnosed yesterday, a day after flying from cleveland to dallas. frontier airlines says it is working with the cdc to contact all 132 passengers on her flight. this is a live look again now at where that second ebola patient has been taken. frontier airlines canceled all future scheduled flights on that decontaminated plane. the danger ebola presents to nurses has nurses here demanding some changes. abc 7 news reporter lyanne melendez joins us to explain. >> reporter: hi, cheryl. nurses are right in the middle of their contract negotiations when all of this was developing, and that's when they decided to open up the dialogue and include ebola. kaiser has 21 facilities in northern california with 18,000

nurses. their union is demanding some new safety conditions as part of a new contract. >> we are at the bargaining table, we said hey, over the course of this we want to see this put in place. not only for ebola but for any kind of infectious disease, pandemic that we might be facing. we need interactive education, not just videos and short training sessions. this is a highly -- a skill that we have to have, and we need proper training. >> reporter: so far, kaiser has shown their nurses videos on how to use protective gear. they have also posted educational materials on ebola. the hospital also says training began on monday for nurses and staff in the emergency room on how to handle these cases. this is what they are telling reporters. kaiser is fully prepared to evaluate and treat suspected and identified cases of ebola while providing the utmost protection for all of our health care providers. but the kaiser nurses are asking

for full body haz/mat suits, proper respirators and one-on-one training. in fact, nurses throughout the nation are now following their lead. more than 11,000 of them were joined via a conference call announcing they are reaching out to the president. >> as far as the president, we ask his executive authority to mandate uniform national standards and protocols that all hospitals must follow to provide safety for patients, health care workers and the public. >> reporter: kaiser nurses are also asking for a supplemental health and life insurance in case they are infected with the virus. lyanne melendez, abc 7 news. officials with the california department of public health say they are working to make sure hospitals are prepared for ebola and properly trained. >> there's no evidence of community spread for ebola in this state or any other state in the united states.

their 90s, then came back the next day and attacked them and stole a safe. we first reported this story to you last month. police arrested the suspects yesterday with help from u.s. marshal service task force. the suspects have been identified as 30-year-old john lee and 24-year-old donna demitro, both transients. san leandro police are looking for help in identifying a well-dressed man suspected of inappropriately touching two young girls in separate incidents on monday night. he's described as being between 25 and 40 years old, 6 feet to 6'3" tall with a medium build. the first incident allegedly took place at 7:45 at the walmart. the second one, 15 minutes later at a target store. if you have information, please call the san leandro police department. traffic is moving on interstate 880 again after a crash involving three trucks backed up drivers for miles. it happened just north of 23rd avenue in oakland about 12:30 this afternoon. a big rig, a box truck and a

garbage truck collided, trapping someone inside the cab of the box truck. the chp says that person was rescued, then taken to the hospital. the cause of the crash is under investigation. federal investigators say tonight that an air tanker fighting a wildfire near yosemite national park might have hit a tree before it crashed. pilot craig hunt of san jose was killed when his air tanker crashed into a canyon wall last week. the crew on another plane nearby says it saw hunt's plane hit a tree with its wing which ripped off as the tanker went down. the statement from cal fire says we look forward to the final ntsb report to see if we can use the findings to help mitigate the inherent dangers of the job. we owe that to craig, who traded his life in an effort to protect the lives of others. police say precautions taken by a man selling two iphones on craigslist helped officers find the scammer who robbed him at gunpoint. fremont police say 24-year-old michael lee of hayward threatened the seller with a gun, then took off with two iphone 6 models.

but the victim took steps to protect himself in case of a scam. police say he organized a meeting in the middle of the day at a bank, making sure there would be witnesses if something went wrong. officers say they used surveillance video from the bank to identify and arrest lee. a top official at the california public utilities commission is recusing himself from the investigation into a pg & e e-mail scandal. puc commissioner florio did not admit doing anything wrong but says it's in everyone's best interest if he ends his involvement in the case. florio is a former attorney for a utility watchdog group that advocates for consumers. florio and puc president michael peevey have been accused of making secret arrangements via e-mail to favor pg & e during the san bruno gas pipeline explosion investigation. the city of san bruno says florio should resign. peevey is leaving office when his term expires at the end of the year. still ahead, they are calling it whiplash wednesday.

shares of netflix stocks tumbled by more than 25% today despite an earnings report that was pretty much what wall street expected. netflix added about three million subscribers in the third quarter but not as many as the video streaming service had expected to add. the company ceo blames a print hike but another announcement could attract customers. beginning january 1st, netflix will have every episode of the hit sitcom "friends" available for streaming. on the way, a lot of us get our pay tv premium channels could change. >> 7 on your side's michael finney is here to explain. >> this may hurt netflix stock as well. soon you will be able to watch hbo without paying for a television subscription. the premium channel today announced its new streaming service which it will sell directly to viewers. you won't have to pay for cable or satellite subscription or any other streaming service if you don't care to watch those other channels. currently hbo's streaming

service is only available through its go app which requires a cable or satellite subscription. if successful, other premium services would likely follow. this could be the start of an a la carte television service that consumer groups have long wanted. microsoft and google have both announced it will offer a kill switch on the next version of window and android phones. the announcement comes six weeks after governor brown signed a bill that would require opt-out kill switches on all smartphones sold in the state. san francisco district attorney hailed today's announcement. he has been pushing hard for kill switches on smartphones as a good anti-theft deterrent. those scared away from flying due to the ebola outbreak may qualify for a refund but only under very narrow circumstances. those who cancel could qualify for a refund if they purchased a refundable ticket, not very many of us do that. some may also qualify if they

purchased travel insurance. few of us do that. but you need to read the fine print on your policy. the insurance must cover pandemics and epidemics. even then you would only get a refund if two additional conditions are met. first, an epidemic or pandemic must have been declared in the country you're flying to and you must have purchased the insurance and ticket prior to the health crisis being declared. finally, if you just don't feel like flying because you're concerned about all of this, fear is not covered under any of these policies. fear or concern. >> you can't just back out. >> you can't just back out unless you buy a policy that allows you to back out under any circumstances. you can't say i don't want to fly. >> good to know. thank you. well, if you go to mcdonald's tomorrow you may want to take pocket change. donation boxes have been set up near the cash register at bay area mcdonald's restaurants. tomorrow's dance change campaign collects money for ronald mcdonald houses. they provide families with sick

children support while their child is hospitalized. while mcdonald's houses celebrate their 40th anniversary this year. tonight at 6:00, we take you on a tour inside the new ronald mcdonald house inside the new ucsf children's hospital at mission bay in san francisco. it's all due to open in february. friday marks 25 years since the 1989 loma prieta earthquake. many people are sharing memories with us, including art, who was mayor of san francisco at the time. he recalls the city coming together in the days after the quake, including one famous resident of the marina. >> i remember it was a hot day and i was walking around the crowd. i saw him way back waiting for his turn. i went up and said hello, mr. dimaggio, i'm the mayor, how are you, are you doing okay. he says yeah, but my house is there, i got to check and see if i can get in it. i've got some things in there. i said well, you can go to the head of the line. he says i want to wait my turn. i said are you over 60? he laughed because he was 78 or 79 at the time.

have been in the 60s and 70s today. we are seeing some sun over san francisco and the numbers are in the low 70s. santa rosa, fairfield, 67 in napa, 71 degrees currently in livermore. one other view the trans-america pyramid. here's a look at the forecast. high clouds and sun tomorrow. there's a chance of showers in the north bay friday afternoon. another chance of rain on monday. that's going to be the second and third system. there's a system that moved through earlier today. some of you didn't get any rain. partly cloudy on thursday. we will see these clouds moving in and then behind that, we are going to be watching for a chance of rain friday afternoon. here's the system that's developing. these are warm storms so we aren't expecting snow in the sierra. 5:00 a.m. friday could see a few sprinkles but really, the rain line begins to move into the north bay 2:00 p.m. friday. best chance is going to be in the north bay but by saturday morning, we do have a few showers showing up across other parts of the bay area and then really by midday, things start

to wind down. the sun breaks through. i do want to turn your attention to tropical storm ana in the central pacific. it is heading towards the hawaiian islands packing winds of 70 miles per hour, gusts to 85. expected to strengthen as it continues on this path. now, big waves are expected, the swell is expected to kick up by thursday. by friday, we are talking about a category 1 hurricane. friday morning, with rain and wind across the big island and then continuing to impact the island chain, so if you do have plans to head to the hawaiian islands over the next couple days, keep that in mind. low temperatures tomorrow in the low 50s to low 60s. you will see some cloud cover around, maybe patchy fog as well. tomorrow afternoon, temperatures will be in the mid 60s to the mid 70s. a look at the accuweather seven day forecast, friday afternoon into saturday morning, storm number two. storm number three, monday afternoon going into tuesday morning. temperatures looking a lot more like late fall. 60s and 70s. >> sandhya, thank you.

christmas lights and other seasonal decorations are the target of new federal regulations. the consumer product safety commission is proposing new rules to prevent lights from causing electrical fires. they would also apply to light sculptures and animated figures of santa claus and his reindeer that illuminate front yards across the country. decorative lighting that doesn't meet new standards will be considered hazardous. apple inadvertently revealed images of its new ipads one day ahead of their intended release. the ipad air 2 and ipad mini 3 are shown on the ipad user guide on the itunes store.
