sergio quintana is live in san francisco with the story. reporter: you can see that there are still signs up, warning drivers that onramps would be closed for a little more two months, until december 12th, for the overnight work, but because of that slowdown, right now caltrans is regrouping, trying to figure out how to get the project done without having such a huge impact on commuters. this is the backup on the top deck of the bay bridge this friday. crews were working on replacing expansion joints but the plates crews laid over the area that would ray lou vehicles to drive over the work in progress started a backup on the top deck. en on friday, i dragged on into the lunch hour, this is not the first time caltrans crews used the plates but for some reason the drivers were not just slowing down. some were coming to nearly a

complete stop before driving over and caused the big backup. so this weekend the plates were removed. >> we took a look at it and thought, let's go ahead and just suspend the project, see if he have any other options, a better way of doing this without having such a drastic impact on traffic. >> caltrans spokesman bob house says the maintenance project on the bridge isn't an urgent stage, not at an urgent stage, but does need to be completed. caltrans workers are going to meet tomorrow so they can see how to get this project done, what they're considering right now, i'm told, is working on a seven-night-a-week schedule to see if they can squeeze the schedule to a much shorter completion date. reporting live, abc7 news. >> commuters would like to see that. thank you. novato police want to learn more about a crash that may have killed a man. someone discovered a smashed up

toyota pickup truck around 8:30 this morning. police found a man's body inside the truck. it appears the crash happened hours before the truck was found. the marin county coroner is trying to identify the victim and determine how he died. authorities in the east bay are investigating two separate road-rage incidents. one happened last night at 7:30 along interstate 58 a near tracyment the hoop patrol says a driver of a toyota pulled alongside an odd dion the freeway and shot at the other car. two of the three people inside the audi were hit. the gun mound in the toyota sped away. about two hours later also on interstate 580, a driver was stabbed by another driver after both pulled over near north livermore avenue. the two drivers fought on the side of the freeway. the victim was treated at the scene. the stabbing suspect was arrivedded by highway patrol. antioch police want to know if a shooting led to a car crash. a car hit a parked car before plowing through a chain link phoenix this afternoon.

wrong. the first ebola patient in the united states died from the disease there. two nurses who cared for him contracted the virus. the hospital's ceo admitted two key failures. a lack of communication about thomas duncan's travel history and the lack of ebola education and training prior to duncan's arrival, saying, as an institution, we made mistakes in handling this very difficult challenge. today, bonny castillo of national nurses united says if more people are infected with ebola other hospitals could find themselves in the same unprepared position. she wants hospital to stock top-grade hazmat suits and require routine practice sessions for care-givers to learn how to put them on and take them off. >> it's all about preparedness. >> on tuesday, california nurses plan to meet with governor brown in sacramento to discuss statewide procedures and national nurses united creates an online petition, asking congress for a comprehensive uniform protocol regarding all nurses treating ebola patients. >> in west africa they now term
