possibly some light rain. this is a cold front that will slide north across our neighborhood. look for the north bay to have the best chance of any wet weather in the morning commute. past 9:00, all of us will have a chance of light showers tapering into the bay and south bay. >> temperatures 68 to 72 across the bay. 71 to 73 inland. >> we are going to first start by talking about this construction project that caused major headaches, major headaches on friday because of metal plates that had been put down near harrison street. it looks like all of that construction has wrapped up today. also they've removed those metal plates and are going to be reengineering them so the same thing doesn't happen. >> sliding over to the east bay of highway 24 oak hill road to pleasantville road, roads taken

away until 9:00. >> eric and christine. >> thank you. coming up at 5:02, a major deal in the micro processor world today. a silicone firm is taking over the chip making division of ibm and getting paid for the privilege. our reporter nick smith is live in santa clara with more on why ibm would be willing to fie gpa >> reporter: good morning. it is all part of a move for ibm to increase its revenue while it transitions to technology. it has agreed to pay $1.5 billion to take a profiting unit off of its hands and will supply ibm power processors in exchange for intellectual property.

that would allow them key technology and ibm chips for its systems. under the agreement ibm will make payments for the chips over three years and will receive $300 million worth of assets making the value of the deal $1.3 billion. ibm has said it will release its earnings offerings today around 7:00 a.m. pacific standard time and announce a separate deal e. >> happening today, cal trans leaders are set to meet about the next step about a minor project that turned into a disaster on friday's commute on the bay bridge. traffic was backed up for miles in every direction. drivers slowed way down to go over two steel plates near the harrison and freemont street off-ramps on the western span. they were installed as part of a

maintenance project. after friday's back up, they halts the project and removed the plates for now. our reporter will have a full report coming up in the next half hour. >> traffic is flowing smoothly on the lower deck of the bay bridge in morning following an unusual accident. a truck got stuck after trying to take the exit over inner state 80. the exit is a tight hair spin turn warned by truckers not to use it. it stalled traffic on the lower deck for almost two hours. >> a woman is in serious condition after she was burned in a fire inside an apartment in pleasant hill. fire fighters found the woman barely conscious in a second story unit. it appears the fire started in the kitchen around 4:00 this afternoon. investigators believe food caught fire while cooking on the stove. >> happening today, a 28-year-old high end escort accused in the death of a high

end google exec utive. she's accused of injecting heroin into 51-year-old google executive forest haze and leaving him to die. >> this morning california lawmakers will be taking a close look at the state and local emergency response to the 6.0 earthquake in napa. an assembly committee is set to meet at 10:00 a.m. for the hearings. officials from napa's police and fire department and medical center are expected to give testimony. lawmakers want to know what worked well during the response to the august 24th quake and what didn't. >> 5:05. now to the latest developments in the ebola crisis. federal officials have changed the safety protocols at hospitals for the virus. now 48 people who had contact with the ebola patient who died, including members of his family have been release ed from

quarantine. >> this morning we have our first prove it is not spread through causal contact. >> individuals who had contact with duncan before he was hospitalized have been given the all clear. >> reporter: this morning a huge sigh of relief in dallas. health officials say the first people quarantined after contact with duncan are longer at risk. 48 people at all including his relatives and fiance -- >> after 21 days of being on this watch list, there's zero chance that any of these young men or his fiance carries the ebola virus. >> another person who handled simples from duncan has tested negative after a huge scare.

the lab supervisor didn't show si symptoms she was quarantined in her cabin for days as fear spread quickly. >> she shouldn't have been onboard. she should have stayed home. >> also the two nurses who contacted ebola from duncan remain hospitalized. overnight vincent's family said she contacted the cdc before flying from cleveland and she was cleared for travel. the family says she was assured her concerns were unfounded. meanwhile federal health officials are revising safety protocols for hospitals. >> one of the things will be complete covering with no skin showing whatsoever. >> the pentagon is assembling a 30 member medical support team put on stand by to help the cdc fight ebola if necessary. abc 7 news. >> you can keep up to minute

63 the warm spot. most of us in the low to mid-60s. 54 in alamidos and 62 in lafeat. it looks pretty mild on the bay water this morning for your commute but if you're coming in from the north bay, know it's going to be raining. probably around 7, 8:00. so some showers up in the north bay during the morning commute. 56 to 64. they will be moving through the heart of the bay. the showers will fade by 4:00. around 66 to 70 and getting colder. >> tuesday and wednesday, partly sunny 30. each day two degrees warmer than the day before. >> mike, we're going to head back into walnut creek where we saw an advisory here right at the intersection here. it looks like the traffic lights there are not functioning. they will be repaired by 2:00

best radar returns and cold front marching at all of our neighborhoods today. i haven't found fog anywhere. partly sunny in morning with light rain or light showers today. probably more appropriate. clearing and much cooler tonight. a slight warming trend during the afternoon hours as we head through the rest of the week. for today, upper 60s, sunnivil e sunniville. santa cruise. 70s elsewhere in gill roy, 73. go out to the coast in the low 60s. sunset, mid-60s south san francisco, 68. north bay valleys, upper 60s and 70 degrees. east bay shore, mid-to upper 60s here. also in inland, a little bit warmer with low 70s accept for fairfield at about 73 degrees. tonight how about some 40s. napa, santa rosa, cloverdale,

palo alto, san rammon in the upper 40s. here is a look at our cold front rolling through. there's an area of low pressure that will hook up with it in the middle parts of the atmosphere that will enhance or at least drive that through here and give us a chance of some showers. here you go. 7:00, you can see the best chance up north through about 9:00. 9:00 to 1:00, it slowly slides from the north bay through the bay and then noon to 3:00, it slides and fades as it heads through the south bay. in fact you will probably get just a few sprinkles. now let's take a look at it. up to a 10th of an inch up in the north bay. >> seven day forecast. once this week cold front rolls through. we will have a cold front by dry one for friday.

temperatures back in the 60s and 70s sunday. >> it looks like traffic is moving nicely. northbound, 280 moving away from highway 17. no delays there. southbound traf iific moving fi. we have construction wrapping up southbound around 17 right around hamilton. it looks like that is clearing up right now. we do have a problem in the east bay at oakgrove. we have traffic lights out causing delays there. as the morning commute progresses you can see more traffic. we're seeing slowing, not sure if it's an anomaly but slowing in the northbound direction around the 24. eastbound to northland road, construction there will last until 9:00 this morning and t f building over the pass.

drivers slowed down to go over two steel plate on the western span. those plates have since been removed. our reporter alicea herrington will have a live reporter coming up in a few min uutes. >> number two, it looks like traffic building up. it looks like the metal plates have been removed. those have been reengineered. we will not have the same problems that we had on friday. traffic getting heavy right now. a couple of problems in the east bay. >> number three, oakland police are investigating the deaths of two men just a few hour as part. a man was stabbed to death inside a home on chest nut street at 9:30, a few hours later another man was shot on 46th street. he died at the scene. >> bodies were found in gary indiana as police investigate a serial killer. all bodies discovered in north west indiana over the weekend. a 43-year-old man confessed to one of the murders and sources

say he may be linked to the others. >> the parents of a 13-year-old girl have come forward to report another incident of exposure in pal la alto. police say the came forward after seeing media reports of exposure in the area. police say their daughter was targeted over summer. >> number five, the giants are in kansas city getting ready for world one of the world series. giants fans are emptying souvenir priets prices across the area. at&t the average ticket price is $800. >> a weakening cold front will scatter showers across our neighborhoods today. i will give you a time frame and how much to expect plus a warming trend for the west of the week. >> 5:25 now. the next time your child gets a cold be sure to give them the

to south. so with that in mind, no, we're going to have scatters, light showers for most of today and a beautiful picture from our roof cam, just cloudy accept for in the north bay. that's where we will have our best chance of showers in the morning commute. coast and san francisco, the coolest, 62 to 67 and around the bay, 68 to 72. light showers and sprirngles and nothing still 4:00. >> trains running on time right now. trains eight and three are rolling around without any delays. traffic on the 101 getting heavier moving along at top speeds. once you get to the golden gate bridge, that drive stays nice and clear into san francisco. northbound traffic not too bad. here is a look over the pass. not so hot. 32 miles-per-hour. you will be on the breaks there as you travel through tracy through the pass right up

through livermore to the dublin interchange. looking like a 42 commute right now. >> thanks a lot. the commute looks pretty normal as cal trans removed temporary plates that caused a major jam up friday morning. it's back to the drawing board for engineers. our reporter is live with more. alicea. >> reporter: cal trans officials are meeting to figure out what to do next. engineers need to replace bolts around the western span of the bay bridge. the traffic spans from temporary plates used to cover up the work. they acted like speed bumps. drivers slowed way down to go over them. some to a complete stop. that triggered a train reaction of crawling traffic. >> very bad. >> reporter: how long did it usually take you? >> 30 minutes.

>> reporter: here is a look at the back up. during the commute friday, the grid lock extended all the way back to highway 24 near children's hospital and lasted well through the afternoon. it took up to an hour for some people to get over the bay bridge alone. the project was scheduled to last two months but not anymore. officials stopped the work over the weekend. they removed the plates. they are working on rescheduling this project with minimal impact on traffic. one option is working seven days a week instead of five to get the project done faster. live in san francisco, abc 7 news. >> it's 5:32. oek land police are looking for suspects in the deaths of two men. a man was found stabbed to death inside a house on chestnut street at 9:30 last night. the victim is described as having multiple cuts and

stabbing cuts. earlier, a man was shot several times at 36th street. >> a north bay man is in jail this morning accused of intentionally running over his ex-girlfriend and another woman with his car. this is news surveillance video of the accident. it shows the two women walking when they were hit by a truck driving the wrong way. police say the driver run over his ex-girlfriend in the parking lot. the 20-year-old took off and came back and led officers on a high speed chase before being arrested. he faces two counts of attempted murder. >> san francisco police are searching for the driver involved in a hit and run collision that left two people hurt. one is an 80-year-old man. this happened last right at 6:30. officers say a light-colored bmw

hit the man and took off. the pedestrian suffered nonlife threatening injuries. >> major development this is morning in the ebola crisis. the fiance of thomas eric duncan is out of quarantine as well as family members. >> nigeria has been dooeclared be ebola free. >> and a protocol has been petitioned for those treating ebola. >> in west africa it has been termed nurse killer. this is so important we get this right. it is so important we have the ability to contain and eradicate ebola. >> federal officials have now required that health care workers must have no skin showing when working with patients with the virus. >> questions are now being asked

network. it would allow for the placement of city owned conduits to be used for fiber optic cables. the board of supervisors will consider the ordinance tomorrow. >> a warning for beach goers along the northern california coast. you have to be very careful in the next few days because of the strong swells that are expected with the likelihood of sneaker waves and rip currents. we will talk to mike about that. >> let's do it right now. 5:37. is that rain system bringing this in with it. >> part of that, absolutely the apparent low is up in the gulf of alaska, it is sending west/northwest swells to 11 to 13 feet. surf is up on our north facing beaches but so are sneaker waves and dangerous rip currents. watch out for that through tomorrow evening.

news. >> welcome back. it's 5:42 the city of berkeley will consider a proposal tomorrow that will make it easier for bet owners to find a place to live. council man jesse argine wants the city to ban no pet policies at berkeley apartments. under the ordinance. dogs, pats, hamsters and rabbits would be allowed as well as they behave. tenants would be responsible for property damage and landlords would have the right to evict them if they don't fire the rules . we are now hearing from a man who rescued a plan from a burning home in fresno. >> we got to get him out of there. >> three men ran toward the burning home before fire fighters got there. one of them found 73-year-old robert wells struggling with his oxygen tank inside the burning home. >> he was like leaning forward just trying to get air and we

we do have radar returns up along the son om oma coast. sprinkles are making it to the ground. only crescent city is getting a little rain. a cold front sweeping through and an area of high pressure in the morning and afternoon hours. otherwise this is a very slow moving front that's going to take the better part of today to move through. right now just some cloudy conditions. you see a lot of highs and a few mid-level clouds up there as the atmosphere starts to move. >> cleaning and cooling tonight and a slight warming trend this week. this is our only chance of rain in the forecast. low 70s for most of the south bay. santa cruise in the upper 60s. upper 60s up and down the peninsula and low to mid-60s.
