giant fans are setting up their phot photos. here is the dj for giants home game. dj slick dee taking a developing news, drivers in san francisco are being adviced to avoid parts of michigan. it's expected to be closed for the next 12 hours. developing news out of east bay. in san francisco on interstate 80 it's back in the morning following a fatal accident. it happened before 4:30 this morning at the fifth street off ramp. a vehicle crashed into a wall. no word what caused the accident. in the east bay lanes have

roped following fatal crash. it happened at the auto-mall parkway. authorities say multiple vehicles were involved in this crash. a man and woman are accused of killing two northern california deputies in a violent crime spree are now in jail. the man who identified himself as marcello marques will face several charges, including murder. the crime spree started friday morning in sacramento. the gunman shot someone during a carjacking attempt. two hours later two deputies were shot in auburn. one of them died. they were arrested after man hunt. sacramento county deputy danny oliver and michael davis junior were veteran officers in their department. yesterday families a friends honored both in a special procession.

firefighters raised the flag over vernon street and citizenslined up to pay their respects. >> these guys and women who put their life on the line every day for us deserve this type of respect by all these people showing up. >> davis' loved ones greeted his arrival and many came to honor both fallen officers. >> came out to pay my respects. it's the least i can do for what they do by putting their life on the line. >> they have paid the ultimate sacrifice so that we can come home to our loved ones. >> federal authorities say the shooter was deported back to

mexico. he was arrested and deported again in 2001. the suspect identified himself as 34-year-old marcello marques of salt lake city. his fingerprints match the records for a louise the fire protection district wants to buy this truck. it costs $180,000. campaign aims to raise $50,000. the biggest donor will have the right to put their name or the company's name on the vehicle. other sources of money have already been secured. we're talking about a different day and a different story in the weather department. >> 50/50 weekend. this time we'll get the 50% of sunshine we promised. here is a beautiful picture. it's a little breezy today. not quite as much as yesterday. we have warming trend through

at least two more highway patrol officers are linked to a co-worker. sending pictures to one over officer working at the office. the other officers could face criminal charges. a drunk driving suspect discovered the photos had been sent from her phone after her arrest in august. in statement the chief said he's disappointed and paappalled by e allegations and we expect the highest level of integrity from everyone in the california highway patrol and there's no place in our organization for such behavior. the officer is currently on administrative duty. a new report shows us more of the controversial relationship between the 49ers

and san jose police department. officers would moonlight as security for team and players. one officer was working at ray mcdonald's house when the player was arrested. a sergeant told other officers off duty work for the team would be cash cow. officers who did security work e-mailed them about being tired when reporting back to duty. critics say the relationship could undermine the authority of the officers who are investigating members of the team. your days of free parking will end at the concord bart station tomorrow. that's when commuters must pay $1 per day to park. it comes as bart faces the last few of its lots where you can still park for free. if you don't have central heat in your home or apartment, a space heater can be great way to stay warm when it gets cold outside, but are they safe. consumer reports have partnered with 7 on your side to find out.

>> space heaters can warm up a chilly room but they account for one-third of home heating fires each year. consumer reports have just tested more than two dozen space heaters. if you have an older one, consider replacing it. the new ones have gotten safer. kevin riley lost his restaurant when a fire started in the apartment above. he says firefighters determine the blaze was sparked by a space heater. >> it was all of maybe 45 seconds up there. that's all it took. the hallway filled up with smoke quickly. >> reporter: consumer reports checked a variety of space heaters to see how well they worked and if they have the latest safety features. all the heaters have a safety switch that turns them off if they overheat or tip over. they all passed this safe check. testers measured how hot this terry cloth towel gets and see whether it burns or catches fire. none did. >> even so we recommend places

space heaters three feet away from any flammable items like curtains, bedding or newspapers. >> reporter: always plug dire directly into the socket. don't use an extension cord. this dummy is loaded with sensors to help measure how fast the heaters can warm you up or spot heat from just your desk area. >> some heaters in our 15-minute test could only raise the dummy's temperature four degrees while the best could raise them higher. >> this honeywell is excellent at spot heating. it costs $190. for far less this compact home heater passed consumer reports safety test. for $40 it can heat a room quickly. it's not quite as fast at spot heating. >> aware that one space heater was recalled by the manufacturer. it's the whole room vortex heater from vornato.

it's been blamed in 29 instances of overheating and melting including seven fires. the heaters were sold in stores and online from june 2013 through may of this year. for more information about the recall go to vornado.com. this may be the week where we start grabbing those space heaters, putting them many the rooms and start heating up a bit especially in the morning hours. >> yeah, if you don't want to heat the whole house, you do that. it's going to be cooler. the du werks was thick this morning. we had some patchying to. that will out there too. doesn't that look like a beautiful shot. is it a preview of a snowy winter? we can only hope so. our lake tahoe camera showing how gorgeous the mountains look with the snow from yesterday. let's move on and talk about our winds.

they are picking up as we expected. now that the atmosphere is starting to turn over as we warm the ground. we're 13 miles an hour. if you head up above 2,000 feet we're still running around 25 to 30 miles an hour. if you're going for a hike expect it to be breezy and feel much cooler the higher you go. the may storm track you can see well to the north with live doppler 7 hd. the storm is moving off to the east. we'll keep an eye on this area of high pressure. this will build in. that's why it's going to be warmer. this is the way it looks in san jose. you can see total sunshine as we look through our san jose bureau. there's the storm. let's hope the timing changes a little bit. it's supposed to come in friday evening. down south. most of the south bay around 70 to 72 degrees. you'll see that a lot in forecast. on the peninsula breezy and

marysville, washington. >> reporter: we know the shooting at pilchuck high school may have been worse if not for a teacher if her very first year on the job. >> pretty sad that a teacher has to do this and kids have to be witness and part of this. >> reporter: issuing a statement she was in an office next to the cafeteria and heard shots and running towards the gunfire she con fronted the shooter until security arrived adding she did everything possible to protect students. >> do you think she saved a lot of lives? >> from what i heard an understand, i believe so. >> reporter: in that cafeteria the alleged gunman was armed with a .40 caliber handgun when he approached table where two of his cousins were sitting. at 10:39 a.m. he opened fire, killing

four others. all of the victims are described surprisingly as the gunman's closest friends. >> i don't know what happened. they were like best friends. >> reporter: fryberg comes from a powerful family within the native american tribe. the young fryberg was seen as a future leader. >> performing at our culture events. a lot of folks were considering him that he would move up the culture ranks. why target those closest to him? friends say he may have been upset about the girl. something his tweeter feed supports. last month tweeting to a close friend, dude, she tells me everything and now i hate you. you're no longer my brother.

>> three of the victims remain in critical condition. the next few days will be crucial for them. the nurse quarantined under those tough new ebola rules is harshly criticizing government officials. she claims she was treated like a criminal. >> reporter: under quarantine and speaking out. the first high risk traveler to be automatically quarantined saying she was treated like a criminal writing in an open letter to the dallas morning news the doctors without borders volunteer recounts what she describes as a harrowing experience. i sat alone in the isolation tent and thought of many colleagues who will return home to america and face the same ordeal. she says she was held for six hours, grilled by officials and given only a granola bar and water.

happening today world war ii airmen whose remains were found more than 60 years after he was shot down over germany will finally be laid to rest. lieutenant billy cook with will buried with full military honors at a cemetery in oakland. the crew and their bomber were not recovered until two years ago. residents living near an active lava flow in hawaii have been told to be ready to leave. officials are going door to door to keep residents informed of the lava's movement. it's been erupting continuously since 1983. the current lava flow began in june. if you're planning to travel over the holidays now is the time to book your flights. a new survey finds the lowest prices for domestic air fares are found eight weeks before the

good morning. here is a live look from our sfo camera. yesterday we had arrival delays. sunny conditions and a green light meaning no delays this morning. one san francisco school is changing the cafeteria experience and how kids think about food. abc 7 education reporter paid a visit to one of hippest lunchrooms around. >> reporter: the cafeteria at roosevelt middle school in san francisco was just another place

to eat. now it offers students endless possibilities. >> it's more fun, basically. you can say this is a more fun cafeteria. >> reporter: there are different kinds of tables for all kinds of purposes like reading, socializing and just hanging out. >> it's just so many different tables. it's hard to choose. my favorite place is over there on the couches. >> reporter: that area is called the chill out station where kids can eat while trading pokemon cards or ideas. it looks like launch at one of those fancy start ups. there's nothing boring about it. instead of having one long lunch line there are now two. on the other side of the cafeteria there's another pick up counter. there's even a roll out food cart outside so kids can grab their food and play. >> it's designed to be another access point for the students in terms of picking up their food and their lunch. >> we all know that hungry students have hard time

harder. >> exactly. very nice day to be outside. a lot of sunshine whether you're going to do a little yard work or head to the beach. let's look at santa cruz now. it's about 56 degrees and sunny. the sunshine stays but the temperature will warm up to about 68 degrees by the end of the day. also we have a lot of activities beginning on. it's going to be sunny and about 60. our wednesday picked up a bit. above 2,000 feet they are running 20 to 30 miles per hour. below that you can see just about all of this below 10 miles per hour. the winds will be a little faster around the bay shore but not quite as fast as over the coast where we have a small craft advisory from 3:00 this afternoon till 9:00 tomorrow afternoon. northwest winds around 21 to 33 knots. you can see the air is relatively clean this morning. there's still a little humid in there. it's starting the dry out. it will come back in form of some fog and some thick dew.

tomorrow morning after a sunny and dry afternoon. the scary halloween storm that could be stronger than the one we just dealt with. 68 in santa cruz. san jose right at 70. upper 60s to near 70 in the peninsula. the only place it will be cooler is in the coast. in the mid-60s. upper 60s to near 70 along the east bay shore. upper 60s around san ramon. just about 70 to 71 in our inland neighborhood. if you're going to boo at the zoo we'll be near 60 degrees. if you're heading to danville for the fall crafts festival we have 60 at 10:00 and mid to upper 60s. here is the all important game. it will be a pitcher's duel
