gymnastics academy that sent her flying through a large glass window. >> i jumped and i flew the other way so i put my hands on my face so i could protect my face and i like flew up the window and landed on the ground. it was just like hurting a lot. >> everywhere, huh? >> it was like some of my skin was off. >> reporter: it happened when she and her friends attended a halloween party at the academy saturday afternoon. >> they said this is concerning a child, your granddaughter. i said yes. she just flew out a window. i said what? >> reporter: shirley received a call from an academy staff member telling her kyla was on the way to the hospital. >> she just said nana. i said i'm here, baby. it was just a horrible sight to see a child like that. >> reporter: the fifth grader has deep gashes on her arms and legs that required more than 100 stitches. and she was total --

>> i still have glass in my hand and foot and stuff. >> reporter: from the outside, we can see the facility has at least three big trampolines positioned a couple feet from large windows. they are now closed off. the academy's owner did not return our calls asking for comment. in antioch, laura anthony, abc 7 news. $30,000 reward is being offered to help find the driver who killed an east bay mother of four. the 30-year-old was shot and killed yesterday as she drove down 98th avenue in oakland with her boyfriend. police are investigating whether that shooting was provoked by road rage. the couple was in a 1998 black toyota camry like this one. investigators are hoping that somebody might spot the incident on home surveillance cameras. today, memorials have been set up inside and outside the couple's home. she and her boyfriend were planning on getting married soon. now, the family is planning a funeral. tonight, a family and school friends are grieving the death of a teenager killed riding his

bike to school in cupertino this morning. the scene was closed to traffic most of the day during the investigation on mcclellan road. abc 7 news reporter david louie is here with more on a terribly sad story. >> reporter: we know what happened here along mcclellan road early this morning. a makeshift memorial marks the spot right on the side of the road. however, no one has released yet the name of the teenaged boy who was killed this morning. mcclellan road was quickly shut down right after the teenager was struck and killed. sky 7 hd shows that there are bike lanes. the cyclist was wearing a helmet. witnesses told investigators the teen was hit by this gravel truck registered to a tracy company. >> the driver of the truck continued on, not knowing that he actually struck the teenaged boy. witnesses were able to successfully flag him down and notify him that he had been involved in an accident. he stopped and has been very cooperative with us. >> reporter: it was a day of

anxiety for students at a nearby high school. deputies said several of them saw the accident but the identity of the cyclist was withheld until the family could be notified. >> there's not a lot of information that kids know so it's a lot of i don't knows. people are just worried. >> reporter: cupertino city council member barry chang was among the first on the scene. he was very sad because a student had been killed. he noted the road is narrow and heavily traveled. >> it's bad. it's really bad. >> the street is narrow so the bike lane is not very wide. >> reporter: cupertino resident lori kristofferson brought flowers to the scene. >> it tears my heart out. i wanted to leave some flowers for his family so they know that, you know, this has affected not only them but probably a lot of us in our community. >> reporter: the truck driver has not been cited and cause of the accident has not been established. a student at the nearby high school said now that she's driving she realizes how

difficult it is to see cyclists. >> i got my license a year ago so i understand for drivers it's really hard to see where bikers are and bikers are kind of reckless when watching when they are in comparison to the car. they don't follow the white line and it's like, you have to be very careful. >> reporter: david louie, abc 7 news. a shooting rampage across sacramento county is raising the issue of immigration enforcement. that incident left two sheriff's deputies dead and a motorist seriously wounded. the arrested suspect was first deported to mexico in 1997 for drug possession. he was arrested again and sent back to mexico a second time, in 2001. authorities now say his background should have flagged him for expulsion again but he seemed to avoid it by assuming multiple identities and staying away from employers who could have exposed him. >> this was the time to look at this and reflect on the fact that it does clearly indisputably represent a situation in which we have a

broken immigration system and seek resolution to that that's reasonable. i hope very much that that's the conversation that takes place now. >> he is waiting to go to trial in sacramento and should face charges this week. an off-duty chp sergeant is responsible for getting $120,000 in cash back to its rightful owner. the sergeant wants to remain anonymous but says he had to swerve to miss two bags while driving his personal car along concord boulevard. they were bank deposit bags just full of cash. the sergeant gave his find to concord police, who later found the lost money's rightful owner. the 20-year chp veteran says returning the money was simply the right thing to do. the san francisco giants are one win away from winning a third world series title in five years. we are keeping our fingers crossed for that win. the team landed in kansas city a couple hours ago to take on the royals in game six tomorrow night. abc 7 was outside the ballpark this morning before the players loaded up on buses and headed out to san francisco

international airport. fans showed up to thank the giants for a great season and wished them luck in the series clincher. fans will be able to watch tomorrow night's game on the big screen at civic center plaza. mayor ed lee made the announcement today. city workers did not waste any time and started rolling out the staging and sound system equipment this afternoon. the city rolled out the big screen at the civic center for the world series in 2010 and again in 2012. it's also where the last world series victory celebration took place as seen in this video from 2012. as in years past, no alcohol will be sold or permitted. die-hard giants fans with the money and time, kansas city is the only place to be. they are heading east hoping to be a witness to giants history. abc 7 news reporter nick smith caught up with fans today at san francisco international. >> this isn't our first rodeo. we have been doing this, this is our third go at this. >> reporter: evan and his friends are making the trip to kansas city to cheer on the san francisco giants for game six. they have made the trip to the

the long awaited trial that could decide city college of san francisco's future is now under way. the city attorney's office took legal action to stop a commission which wants to strip city college of its accreditation. abc 7 news reporter lie alyanne melendez is live with the details. >> reporter: let me just start out by saying there is no jury in this trial. the decision will be made by a judge in this case. now, one of the most interesting

moments we heard today came from the state chancellor of community college, who, by the way, favored a state takeover of city college. today, he said termination by the committee was not an appropriate act. supporters of city college of san francisco protested outside the courthouse. it was the first day of the hearing to determine whether the accreditation process was unfair and unlawful. the lawsuit was brought forward by the city attorney's office. >> they deserve an opportunity to be heard, to know what improvements they have to make and not have the accreditation process be used as a political hammer over the school's head. >> reporter: it is now known that one of the accrediting team members was married to the president of the accrediting commission for community and junior colleges. alyssa messer, former president

of the american federation of teachers, was the first to testify. >> at the time we didn't know they were connected to each other. we didn't know that they were married. these teams are supposed to be independent from the commission. they are not supposed to participate in pillow talk or any other kind of talk. >> reporter: her husband was from another bay area community college which, according to messer, could have benefited from city college closing. city college has never violated any laws but has admitted it suffered from poor financial management and inadequate governance. the commission argued it warned the college numerous times about these problems. no one from the commission spoke on camera. if the college loses its accreditation it will no longer be eligible for federal financial aid and would likely shut down. >> it would be a disaster. according to the board of supervisors budget analyst, it would cost the city in revenue over $300 million a year. >> reporter: the hearing is supposed to continue for five days. in san francisco, lyanne

melendez, abc 7 news. it appears the drop in gas prices should continue well into next year. investment bank goldman sachs predicted the price of north american oil will drop to $70 a barrel by next spring, down from a high of $100 a barrel four months ago. the reason for the drop is simple. there is just more oil being produced now than the world needs. right now, some cities are seeing gas as low as $2.65 a gallon. the national average is $3.08. take a look at this. this is so amazing. in san francisco, it is about $3.54. that is some of the most expensive fuel in the nation, but it's much cheaper than last month when gas here was about $3.86 a gallon. some experts say the nationwide average could be as low as $2 a gallon early next year. consumer reports has partnered exclusively with 7 on your side for a report on the most and least reliable cars out there.

michael finney is here with the details. always interesting. >> yeah, looking to buy a new car, you might want to listen to this report. consumer reports has just released this year's ratings of the most and least reliable new cars and car makers. there are some big changes this year. with infiniti dropping most dramatically and an american car manufacturer making the top ten. this is the most reliable new car you can buy. the scion xb, according to consumer reports' latest reliability survey. >> we collect data on over a million vehicles. we can tell you which are most and least likely to give you trouble. we have data on 28 brands as well. >> reporter: once again, the most reliable brands are dominated by the japanese with lexus, toyota, and mazda taking the top three spots. honda came in at number four. the four least reliable brands, dodge, ram, jeep and fiat. all owned by chrysler. >> chrysler has traditionally had more than its fair share of trouble. the addition of fiat in the mix

hasn't helped. >> reporter: the new fiat 500l is ranked the least reliable car out of the 248 consumer reports rated. some american brands did well, however. lincoln shot up 12 points this year. buick made it into the top ten list of reliable brands. the only american car to do so. >> gm has been one of the better domestic brands in terms of reliability and buick has often been their top brand. >> reporter: a few first year cars like mazda 6 and kia got high marks for reliability but most did not. >> if you are looking for a reliable car it's really not best to buy a car in the first year of a redesign. wait until they work out the bugs. >> reporter: the redesigned chevrolet silverado which research shows had lots of problems in its first year. according to consumer reports, the most reliable suvs are the mitsubishi outlander sports, subaru forester, toyota highlander and lexus rs.

a campaign to keep tv show host bill maher from delivering a commencement speech at uc berkeley's december graduation is picking up momentum. an online petition has more than 1800 supporters. some students are upset that left-leaning maher after he argued that liberals need to stand up to intolerance perpetuated by islam. the petition calls maher a bully, bigot and racist who has no respect for uc berkeley values. election day is next week and california governor jerry brown is showing no signs that he's worried about re-election. >> good. yeah. you can yell a little more. >> governor brown held a get out the vote rally in pleasanton focused entirely on two state-wide propositions he's supporting. proposition 1 is a water bond that would earmark millions to
