see, and parties that might still be going on right now. well, good thursday morning, i'm reena ninan. >> i'm t.j. holmes. start with the debate over a health care worker's ebola quarantine, more contentious. >> kay see hawaii cox left her home. it's the first showdown with the state now monitoring her movements. >> reporter: she is fed up and ready for a fight. overnight, defying the quarantine restriction and walking out of her house. she showed officials in maine she means business. if they don't lift the 21-day quarantine, she plans to sue. >> if these restrictions are not removed for me by the state of maine by thursday morning, i will go to court to attain my freedom. >> reporter: but with a state police officer outside watching her every move, they are

confining her to her house even though she's tested negative for ebola. ten people canceled surgeries at the local hospital, worried that she would get sick and show up. the police chief said his phone is ringing off the hook. >> we have fielded a couple dozen calls from local residents concerned about kaci being in the community and transmitting the ebola virus. >> reporter: maine is one of nine states with quarantines in place. and now the u.s. military said that all service members returning from west africa will be isolated for 21 days. with the debate raging, president obama met with health care workers back from treating patients in west africa. >> they deserve our gratitude and they deserve to be treated with dignity and with respect. >> reporter: her quarantine would end november 10th, but her lawyers say she isn't going to

cooperate. >> tahman bradley live in washington. new this morning, the deadly crash of a military jet is under investigation in southern california. the commercially-owned plane crashed in a field. the naval base spokeswoman said the seasoned retired military fighter pilot was attempting to land. it was owned and operated by a civilian contractor. nato has intercepted a large number of russian military aircraft flying over europe this week. there were 19 such intercepts in a day. they have had three times more in 2014 than all of last year. turn now to the search for answers in the rocket explosion off the virginia coast. some are saying that soviet-era engines used to power the rockets are to blame. karen travers is at the scene. >> reporter: investigators got the first look at the damage. >> it was immediately obvious something was wrong. and the data was lost, we knew

it was over. >> reporter: and it was over quickly. just six seconds after the launch, an explosion near the rocket's base. the self-destruct button was pushed within seconds. and then more explosions. amazingly, nobody on the ground was injured. it was headed to the international space station with 5,000 pounds of equipment and splice. also on board, science experiments from students at 18 schools across the nation. >> it's a bummer for us. we have to take a lot more time to fix everything. but no one got hurt. so that's great. >> reporter: the space station crew is well-stocked according to nasa. in fact an unmanned russian ship arrived carrying nearly 3 tons of supplies. nasa pays billions of dollars to companies like orbital sciences to make the deliveries to the space station. they have been criticized for using older, refurbished soviet

rockets. they assessed what's available. >> there are not many u.s. engines available in that class for rockets like this. >> reporter: but if the engine is implicated in the disaster, they will speed up the move to another engine for future rockets. the fbi is under fire for what critics are calling an illegal search in a sports gambling bust in lost vegas, they were posing as repair technicians. they have filed a 54-page motion to get rid of what they say is illegal evidence. kay hagan is fighting off a strong challenge from tom hill lis. and new data shows that $100 million has been spent on the race. it's from outside groups looking to influence the race. election day, just five days
