forward to. 57 in half moon bay. overall a lot of numbers are cooler than average in our east bay valleys. and where you see the numbers a little bit warmer, we will have a milder afternoon highs. here's a look at our fresh snow. a couple inches in the sierra nevada. that's long gone and a look for temperatures back home to be in the low and mid-60s in the coast. upper 60s oakland, out toward castro valley. inland numbers approaching 70 degrees. perhaps a warmup in the offering. i'll have the details in a few minutes. >> lisa, thank you. developing news. police are investigating after four people died when their boat capsized near bodega bay. a fifth person was pulled to safety. three victims have been identified. 79-year-old jesse langley was from bodega bay, and samuel garcia, 86, from bodega bay, and 60-year-old david costa from ripon. the fourth victim, a woman, has not yet been identified.

this is video of the lone survivor who was rescued after the boat capsized around 10:00 yesterday morning. abc7 news reporter sergio quintana has the latest from bodega bay. >> witnesses say the coast guard and other rescue workers quickly recovered four people from the dangerous waters. one woman said she could see paramedics trying to revive them. >> the guy was pumping. the paramedic was just hauling on somebody. it was so -- i couldn't believe it. >> three men and one woman pulled from the water did not survive. a fifth person identified as philip sanchez was pulled from the rocks by helicopter. that's him being walked into the coast guard station by the rescue workers. he suffered minor cuts and bruises and was rushed to a santa rosa hospital. the 32-foot long boat they were

it was a complete loss. >> it broke up on the rocks over it pretty much got smashed to pieces by the waves. we haven't seen any recoverable pieces of it. >> philip sanchez has returned home from the hospital. we talked to some of his friends who tell us he's known the other four people in the group for years. sanchez did not talk with us. his friends asked us to leave after he got home. according to the sheriff's department, none of the people in the boat were wearing life jackets. the coast guard is asking boaters to be careful the rest of the weekend. a wind advisory remains in effect in the area. >> something as simple as a bad sparkplug or anything else, when you break down in winds like this, you drift so quickly you will find yourself on rocks in no time. it's very dangerous. >> the crash is still under investigation. >> abc7 news. this morning police in san francisco say they have located the driver in a fatal

collision involving a pedestrian. the accident happened around 9:30 last night near third and cargo street. the victim is a man in his 20s or 30s. police say he was unaware he hit someone. he was on a skateboard. investigators believe it is possible the driver was unaware he hit anyone. talking to the driver and witnesses to determine exactly what happened. a u.c. berkeley student is dead after falling at oracle arena. zachary bradley was a pre-med student in his second year at cal. abc7 news reporter lilian kim has the story from berkeley. >> by all accounts, 20-year-old zachary bradley was a talented, well-rounded individual. his family said he was fluent in spanish, played several instruments, and inspired to be a doctor. on halloween he took a tragic fall. bradley and his friends attended this concert at oracle arena in oakland. authorities say bradley died after falling more than 20 feet. he was climbing down an elevated and restricted area behind the stage.

his fraternity brothers are grieving. no one wanted to go on camera but they say they will miss bradley. they said they loved his spontaneity and sense of adventure. in berkeley, lilian kim, abc7 news. people at walnut creek are helping neighbors displaced by an explosion that destroyed part of a townhouse complex. it happened friday. it was on sunnyvale avenue. two men who lived in the unit suffered severe burns and are still in critical condition at u.c. davis burn center. investigators say that hundreds of volatile butane canisters being used to turn marijuana into hash oil caused the blast. the explosion blew out windows in buildings across the street. the entire complex is uninhabitable. >> some of the neighbors approached me and said that they were willing to help. >> a third victim showed up at a hospital later that day. police say all three face felony

charges. the attorney for the former california highway patrol officer charged with stealing nude photos from a woman's cell phone said his client is sorry. 35-year-old sean harrington resigned from the force. he faces two felony charges in connection with stealing pictures from a woman he arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. his attorney said in a statement that his client apologizes to the women and to colleagues in law enforcement. memorial services will be held this week for two sheriff's deputies killed in the line of duty last month. michael davis of sacramento county, and deputy daniel oliver were killed after a man went on a shooting rampage during a crime spree. oliver's memorial service is tomorrow at 11:00 at adventure christian church in roseville. davis' memorial will be held the next day at the same location at

10:00 a.m. suspect marquez and his wife, 389-year-old janelle monroy, face more than a dozen felony charges, including murder. for the first time in four years the national average for a gallon of gas is below three dollars. even in the bay area. a gallon of regular of gas in san jose cost drivers $2.82. prices plummeted 34 cents in the last month, bringing the average cost for a gallon of regular to $2.99. we haven't seen that price since december 22, 2010. in san francisco the average is $3.47. $3.35 in oakland and $3.29 in san jose. ski resorts in the sierra received a healthy dusting of snow from this weekend's storm. this is video from heavenly mountain resort in tahoe. they received three inches of

fresh powder. a similar scene at northstar in truckee. they received two inches of snow from the storm. 6 inches fell at squaw valley, and ten inches of fresh powder fell on alpine meadows upper mountain. harming now, the sidewalks on the golden gate bridge are closed for today's u.s. half-marathon. this video from our golden gate bridge cam earlier this morning. 5,000 runners are taking part in today's half-marathon which got underway at 7:00 this morning. a shuttle bus is available at both ends of the bridge to take pedestrian and cyclists across during the sidewalk's closer, which will last just a few more minutes until about 9:30 this morning. so they are off! >> yeah, temperatures in the 50s. a beautiful day on the way. still just 49 up in san rafael, but here you are looking from the emeryville camera where

the future of private space travel is in doubt after friday's mid-air explosion of a prototype rocket. it happened during a test flight of a spacecraft that was meant to start carrying passengers next year. 39-year-old pilot michael alsbury from tehachapi was killed. alex perez has the latest. >> this morning while they investigate what caused the spaceship to fall apart, richard branson is spearheading the effort to get passengers to space said his dream is not over yet. >> we are determined to learn from this. >> we now know more about the pilot killed in the crash,

mark-down's there. and if an item is damaged, always ask for additional discount. consumer report shoppers got about 10% off every time they asked. i'm michael finney, 7 on your side. the city of san jose is changing the rules for outdoor water usage to coincide with end of daylight savings time. beginning today it will be allowed in the morning at 10:00 a.m. and hand watering is allowed after 3:00 p.m. however, the sprinklers remain restricted to after 8:00 p.m. city officials say watering plants during the cooler hours means less water evaporates and the plants have more time to absorb the moisture. they emphasize, though, as we know, it's still important to conserve, and even when it rains. the state is dealing with an ongoing drought. we got a little bit of that stuff last week, but nothing in the forecast? >> no, nothing in the forecast except for a warming trend. that's for the middle of the week. right now it's warming up around the bay with temperatures in the upper 50s in some parts. right now live doppler 7hd

showing nothing going on. in fact, we didn't even have any low loudness to speak of this morning and you think we would after the moist ground and the lighter winds. but there was just enough wind out there to keep things mixed up and we started out clear with the cool spot up in nassau of 37. right now it's 57 san francisco, as well as san carlos. 53 in san jose. half moon bay leading the pack at 59 degrees. in the low 60s there with the light winds a nice day to head out to the coast. 55 petaluma. all these numbers are well into the low 40s with 52 in livermore and even concord this morning the mid-40s. here's a look from our roof camera. nice and sunny out there. we look for more sunshine today. the sunsetting in san francisco at 5:10. that brings us 10 hours, 33 minutes of daylight light.

more autumn warmth is on the way. it will warm up until about wednesday and then a cool-down after that. all of california is seeing just a little built cooler than average. so today with the lighter winds it should feel pretty good mid-afternoon and we will look for temperatures to go above formal. certainly in southern california they are forecasting an offshore winds, the santa anas, and temperatures in the 80s by wednesday and thursday. not that warm for us. mid-40s in tahoe. some of that snow still sticking around. 49 in yosemite with just about 70 in sacramento. the numbers today, a little cool here but a nice afternoon for san jose, 67. 68 los gatos. on the peninsula, mid-60s san mateo. and pacifica with the lower 60s it should feel about. san francisco mid-60s.

daredevil tightrope walker nick wallendas is at it again. his next feat will take place in the windy city. that's later today. he will walk a wire at a 15 degree incline between two skyscrapers in chicago. and he plans to do part of it blindfolded. the the 35-year-old said the inspiration came after undergoing laser eye surgery. the daredevil captivated a live audience last year when he crossed a gorge at the grand canyon. this will also be televised today worldwide. much more ahead on the abc7 sunday morning news. high anxiety on the high seas after a massive cruise ship crashes into an unknown underwater object. what passengers are saying after being told to put on life jackets and abandon ship. also, a near-death experience for a surfer off the coast of hawaii. dragged out to sea by a shark.

[screaming] >> another luxury cruise ship running aground killing 32 people. forced to abandon ship, these passengers telling abc news the vessel came to a jerking halt before plunging into a blackout. >> in the gally we were playing roulette. >> the luxury liner hit an unidentified object off grand bahama island. celebration cruise line officials say no passengers were ever in any danger. this morning the luxury liner, almost the size of two football fields, is safely docked. now officials are assessing the damage to determine the cause of the collision and some passengers assessing their love of cruises.

and discharged from the national institute of health hospital in maryland on october 24th. >> while president obama is not on the ballot on tuesday's midterm election, many will take to the month s with a more pessimistic view of the direction of the u.s. the president has his lowest mark as commander in chief. today the party chair spoke out about it. early voting numbers and control of the senate. >> we have got early vote numbers that are up in the most competitive states and the most competitive districts all across the country. we focused on making sure that we bring our numbers up for voters who didn't cast ballots in 2010 but voted for the president in 2008 and 2012. >> you look at absentee ballot voting and their message isn't

now to a hero in hawaii who rescued her friend when she was attacked by a shark and driven out to sea. used fists and feet to free her. we have the story. >> really gratitude, luck, yeah. all of that. >> all of that after surviving a vicious shark attack off the waters of northern hawaii. the surfer mckenzie clarke showing off the brutal bite marks to her hand and board. >> i don't think this minor of an injury happens this often in this situation. >> she paddled out to surf the warm waters off the big island friday like she has many times before. always more fascinated than fearful of what lurks beneath the surface. >> i love sharks. i think they are beautiful. >> and putting that appreciation to the test. thinking she hit a rock until a twelve foot shark surpassed. >> at that point his head was on

bloom shows you the taxi you can take that never gets stuck in traffic. >> nearly a century ago rush hour looked something like this. >> this is quite a hustle and bustle. >> now a days it looks like this. >> bumper to bumper. heavy delays there. traffic pretty much stopped at the toll. >> you see back in the day, this didn't exist. there was only one way across the bay. >> in 1928 over 46 million people made this crossing. >> all that traffic was out on the water and there was something else besides ferries, something called a water taxi. >> they were just like a normal taxi. call with as much heads-up as you can. we prefer at least a day's heads-up. >> taylor lewis is bringing the water taxi back. his company quietly launched a year and a half ago with this boat that carries up to six people. well, word has gotten out and the people have spoken.

no one picked all six numbers. a ticket purchased in san pablo matched five. that is worth nearly $361,000. wednesday's jackpot jumps to $178 million. >> someone in the bay area is waking up a bit richer this morning. a mega-millions ticket worth $600,000 was purchased in alameda. the ticket matched five of the six numbers from friday's mega-millions jackpot. $284 million. it only missed the meganumber, which was 13. the ticket was purchased in alameda. and there was another ticket purchased in l.a. county that also matched five of the six numbers so that $600,000 for that winner as well, but since no one matched all six numbers, tuesday's jackpot rose to $321 million.
