good morning and thanks for waking up with us. warm conditions throughout much of the region today but when can we expect rain? lisa argen joins us now with the accuweather forecast. hi there, chris. good morning to you. a live look at doppler 7 hd and a couple pockets of dense fog around the san carlos airport. also oakland reporting about a quarter mile visibility. and the view from our camera, a little hazy out there. 54 in in mount view. oakland with the fog, 54. half moon bay, looking at some visibility restrictions as well in the mid-50s. and closer to the bay in emeryville looking at sunshine today in the mid-70s today in oakland. low 70s san francisco, near 80 in our inland valleys. will this last through the weekend? possibly. we do have rain in the seven-day

outlook. i'll have the details in a few minutes. chris? now to that breaking news. two americans who were being held in north korea are free this morning and on their way back to the united states. kenneth bayh and miller were the last americans held by north korea following the release last month of jerry foul. miller, who is from bakersfield, was serving a six-year jail term on charges of espionage after he allegedly ripped his visa in april and demanded asylum. bayh who is from washington state is a missionary with health problems. he was serving a 15-month sentence. police in richmond are investigating a shooting that left one person dead and another injured. it happened in the area of sixth street and pennsylvania avenue at around 10:00 last night. responding officers found a vehicle that crashed into a parked car. police say a man in the driver's seat had been shot. he was pronounced dead at the

scene. a female passenger suffered minor injuries. we have been told that no arrests have been made. richmond police are also investigating another fatal shooting from earlier in the evening. the shooting happened in the area of market avenue in north richmond around 9:30 last night. one person was killed and video from overnight show police putting out a number of evidence markers. no word yet on what led up to that shooting or if there are any arrests. also developing this morning, friends and co-workers of a software engineer who disappeared on halloween will continue their search with help of high-tech tools. 26-year-old dan ha has been missing about a week. he was last seen in san francisco leaving his apartment at fourth and brannon. katie march due low has the story. my roommate is missing. >> reporter: his roommates and friends passed out flyers where the 26-year-old software engz

was able to message everyone using the app. i hope he comes home safely and gets madpininvading his space. >> katie marzullo, abc 7 news. a man crashed a vehicle and started swinging around an ax. sky 7 hd was above the scene as an officer pepper sprayed the man who appeared to have a weapon in his hand. they eventually dragged him out of the canal and put him in custody. investigators say it all started with the man weaving in and out of traffic. he even went up on the sidewalk at one point. he started throwing tools at passing motorists. he threatened people while swinging that ax. police arrived and chased him to the canal where he was arrested after a short standoff. he will undergo a psychological

evaluation. pg&e crews are wrapping up a series of safety tests following a natural gas leak in downtown san jose. the leak began at around 11:00 yesterday morning in the area of south market and west santa clara street where a construction crew pierced a pipe. the leak is capped, but crews remained on the scene until about 8:00 this morning conducting safety tests and restoring service to roughly 40 commercial customers. >> a new movable barrier is under way on the golden gate bridge. lanes will be closed at various times until 8:00 tomorrow morning. we're taking a live look at our golden gate bridge cam. workers need to make modifications to the drainage and pavement before the barriers installation and the installation of the median bearerier will take up to 52 hours that will rare a full closure of the bridge on january 10 and 11. officials believe the new barrier will make head-on collisions on the bridge a thing of the past. a vigil held in the south

bay for the 43 kidnapped students in mexico who are now near dead. the father of one of the students israel lugardo, was at the vigil last night. he spoke with reporter sergio quintana. >> reporter: israel galindo swipes through his son's facebook pictures, among the 43 students who disappeared in ger gerer owe, mexico. [ speaking in spanish ] >> reporter: he says the whole world is watching the state of gerer he owe where this happened. the mexican attorney general showed video of charred remains and said three men confessed to murdering the students. the case has sparked massive protests against the mexican president because of a slow response. demonstrator in san jose honor the students focusing attention on corrupt government officials accused of ordering their attack. >> it was actually the mayor of ayotzinapa, the city where the students got killed. the wife is supposed to be the leader of the cartel from

guerrero. >> reporter: mayor jose luis abarca and his wife maria delos angeles pineda have been arrested. they've been on the run since september. prosecutors say the pair allegedly order ed the local police chief to stop the students from protesting a speech she made. officers opened fire on their convoy of buses and handed is your vifrs over to cartel members. galindo says he's lost faith in the mexican government and is worried about his own safety because the cartel have their hands in everything. as a father he had to speak out n. san jose, sergio quintana, abc 7 news. a college student from the bay area has died after falling five stories off an apartment building. 19-year-old melissa kinnon was a sophomore at san diego state university. she was up on the raf of an apartment building with a friend when she fell just before 4:00 yesterday morning. police believe it was an accident but say the two had been drinking. a kidnapping suspect is in

jail in utah this morning after a young girl's stepdad chased him away. >> there is a man in my home and he took my 5-year-old daughter. >> early friday morning a man grabbed the girl from her bedroom. he then carried her through the home and out the front door. somehow her mom and stepdad heard her voice, then heard the front door open. as the mom dialed 911 the stepdad rushed outside and found the kidnapper carrying her away. he yelled at the kidnapper who dropped the girl and took off running. police used k-9 units to track the suspect to a neighbor's home. the 5-year-old girl was not physically hurt. the hotly contested race for california's 17th congressional district is finally over. challenger ro khanna has conceded to south bay congressman mike honda. in a statement last nate khanna said he was struck by the passion on both sides of the race and said it gives him hope for the country's future.

new this morning police in connection with an alleged islamist terror plot targeting the united kingdom. the men aged 19 to 27 were arrested yesterday and thursday. the arrests come as the uk prepares remembrance day events this weekend to honor the nation's fallen war heroes. the events are expected to be attended by the royal family. british officials say security was tight following the shootings at the canadian parliament and threats by terrorists to carry out a plot in the uk. an youautopsy of robin williamss ruled a suicide. he was found hanging in his home. susan snyder said he was suffering from depression and paranoia and had been dealing with a recent parkinson's diagnosis. the autopsy found two kinds of

mi michael finney explains why the contract was virtually useless. >> reporter: dave bought this computer because it could do everything his family needed. >> we use it for internet browsing, accessing our e-mails. >>. >> reporter: and it worked fine until this started happening. >> it would just crash while you were using it. an error message would pop up. >> reporter: dave would shut it down, start it up again and it would work for a while but then -- >> nope. >> reporter: crash. >> as time went on it got more and more unstable and then it got to the point it just wouldn't turn on. >> reporter: like now. he called sony and explained the problem. >> they agreed it was probably the hard disk and needed to be sent in for repair. >> reporter: no problem. he had this three-year extended warranty. tony said take it to best buy and the geek squad would fix it. so he did. best buy had some bad news. >> the geek squad said that sony hasn't authorized them to fix

this model of computer. >> reporter: sony does contract with geek squad to repair electronics. somehow dave's particular model was exclude d from coverage. >> sony was very apologetic. they said they would send a repairman to my house. >> reporter: sony told him a technician would call within two days. that didn't happen. so dave started calling instead. >> every time i called they said, i don't know why someone hasn't called you. someone will escalate your ticket. someone will call you within 48 hours. >> reporter: no one did. after several weeks sony finally said forget fixing the hard drive. the company would give him a partial refund instead. well, that didn't happen either. >> i called them. they said i don't know why. give us 48 hours. i guarantee it will all be taken care of and that went on for about a month. it was at that point i called 7 on your side. >> reporter: we contacted sony, and within days, relief. the company refunded the full $2,200 purchase price and kicked in a $200 gift card as a bonus.

>> it took three full months on my own and not getting anywhere. with 7 on your side within a week it was fully resolved. >> reporter: sony tells us the customer was provide add full refund after he brought this to our attention. unfortunately, there was miscommunication between best buy and ourselves with this issue. >> i was very greatful. >> reporter: our thanks to sony for stepping up with a full refund. sony sold off its pc business earlier this year and no longer makes the vios computer. however, if you bought one under warranty with sony the company says it will still service those computers. i'm michael finney, 7 on your side. across the bay area, lisa, we do need the rain, though. when can we expect that? >> there are hints of it to the end of the upcoming workweek. today it's not only about the warmer than average temperatures. we're looking at fog moving around the bay inside s iffo

reporting delays. we are looking at it still out to the delta so that's when we get the air temperature the same as the dew point and very little wind. pockets of dense fog in the forecast in the second half of the weekend despite our unusually warm weather for the afternoon with plenty of 70s and 80s. here is a look at temperatures on this panel pretty mild. san francisco 57. with the fog at the airport it's 59. 54 down around move et field. morgan hill 56. take a look at the beach here. upper 70s today and even the north bay in the 70s around stinson, maybe some fog later on this afternoon. 51 in santa rosa. so you're clear as well as napa. visibility and mild. just a quarter of a mile.

fog at the airport 1/16 of a mile. san carlos and getting better at half moon bay. still looking at the fog out to the delta. so the air quality is pretty good here but you head 0 out towards the sally and they have that stagnant air. we'll get into a big dome of high pressure today and that's going to initiate an offshore push. the warmer days on the way for the weekend, just what you want to hear, right? that exceptional drought. we are looking at the possibility of some rain come thursday and friday. certainly with cooler temperatures as the ridge breaks down as soon as monday. double barrel high pressure at the surface. and the light wind will allow for quick warming today bringing us another day deeper into our dry forecast. we'll look at a bit of an onshore push that will cool us down, maybe a cool couple degrees. take a look at san jose for the week ahead. average high about 70.

a san francisco woman whose dog was stolen months ago in a dumpster last weekend, williams says she's overjoyed to have her assistance dog back home. someone took 8-year-old kayly from williams' car. the dog was found in a dumpster in san francisco's tenderloin district with broken ribs and head injuries. >> she has been in the hospital for some time. spc did a really wonderful job taking care and also the animal control. >> animal control

half past the hour on this saturday morning. let's start off with a quick look at your weekend forecast. meteorologist lisa argen joins us now and, lisa, some fog has crept in through the area. >> yes, certainly hour delays at sfo and the airport reporting about 1/16 of a mile visibility. you can see a little bit of hayes. mountain view 64. the visibility is then reduced around the delta as well. then that fog will evaporate and we're looking at temperatures well above average. high pressure continues to build. it's going to be an offshore flow. not what you want in november and certainly not what we want with 70s and 80s returning yesterday with 67 in the city

next week. novato is 54. we're at 55 at delta and some fog there as well. but our inland and east bay is fine in terms of visibility. it's oakland right inside the bay. san carlos 1/16 of a mile. be careful here. this will linger a bit through the next hour. then it's nothing but sunshine from mt. tamm. it's been clear in our north bay valleys and so you're getting a jump-start on the warming. warmer days today and tomorrow. not exactly what you want to hear after the ski package but we will look for cooler temperatures and the possibility of local rain here come thursday and friday. so our pacific satellite shows and tells the story there's high pressure and right there that's a double barrel high pressure which has aligned for an offshore push. it's not what we need to hear. in fact, we're talking 80s in southern california, this huge dome of high pressure, just adding another day deeper into our dry forecast. and you can include tomorrow on that. although the ridge begins to

break down on monday. even tomorrow we're looking for more in the way of fog. here is our long range computer animation that shows a little bit of precip beginning to move into extreme northern california monday and tuesday. look what happens into thursday. flirting with the north bay so we can hope this holds together and brings us maybe some rain by the end of the week but it will drop our temperatures as much as ten degrees. we need it. this isn't what it should be in november with 85 in los angeles. looking at 67 in lake tahoe. at the poi ten degrees cooler by thursday. no 60s and, in fact, more 80s from fairfield to 0 santa rosa today and morgan hill. 77 in palo alto. look for 76, san ma teo. half moon bay 71 degrees. more fog am tomorrow and speaking of tomorrow, how about the raider nation with low to mid-70s throughout the afternoon. plenty of sunshine. the accuweather seven-day forecast 70s in the coast. low 80s inland in general
