is december 7th. so call anthem today at 1-844-331-7996 to learn more or to schedule an in-person meeting. that breaking news is in san francisco, sky 7 hd live over the scene of a terrible accident. a worker has fallen 11 stories, landed on that car, that car was moving in the financial district at montgomery and california streets. our reporter, abc 7's lyanne melendez is there. she joins us live by phone to talk about what's happened. lyanne? >> reporter: just a very tragic accident here. what we know is that apparently the worker who was just about to wash windows or do some kind of

work on the building was on the top, on the roof of that 11-story building. he was apparently trying to adjust the cables when suddenly, something happened. we don't know, but he fell like you said from the roof. that's an 11-story building on california at montgomery. he landed on a toyota camry which was coming down montgomery street and that car broke his fall. he then fell to the pavement. we are told that he has been taken to the hospital. he is alive but again, this is a very busy intersection. police saying that it was a miracle that he didn't land on people walking from one side of the street to the other. again, that car broke his fall and he -- you should see the car. it suffered a lot of damage.

but again, he, we are told, has been taken to the hospital and he is alive. right now i'm looking at the owner of the car on the phone. heavily damaged the car, obviously, after this person fell on it and this is completely closed with a lot of people just looking up at the roof, really upset because there is blood in the intersection, and also just very curious and amazed that this happened. >> lyanne, we can tell that no traffic is moving through that area right now. >> reporter: that's right. this whole intersection, including -- well, montgomery and california, completely blocked off, and i would say about two blocks of california in each direction are also closed, so definitely, this is an area you want to avoid because this investigation will continue for awhile. >> lyanne, you can see the cable

car lines running on california. obviously not getting through right there. you mentioned the car and how badly damaged it was, but the driver of that car is okay, you say? >> reporter: he's okay. i mean, he has been on the phone since i got here and that was about 20 minutes ago, and he's still on the phone. i don't see any -- that he's injured or anything. i'm sure that he's very shaken up because of the passenger side completely caved in. we will definitely tweet and send you those pictures but it's quite amazing that he didn't suffer any injuries. he seems fine to me. >> and lyanne, we are looking at sky 7, there's a man with an argyle type sweater on. is that the driver of the car? >> reporter: that's right, that's him. as you can see, he's wearing glasses. he i believe is still on the cell phone. not sure who he's calling at this moment. probably family members, to say that he's okay.

but again, as you can see, he is distraught, maybe a little hurt there, but he's again looking fine. but that's the driver. >> all right. lyanne, thank you very much. again, we do not know the window washer's condition. we do know he's been taken to the hospital. you can see public transportation, car traffic all affected in that area. we will update you online and on twitter at abc 7 news bay area as new developments on this breaking news story come in. thanks for joining us. i'm cheryl jennings. >> i'm kristen sze. a ribbon cutting ceremony is under way. >> that's right, this is for the brand new b.a.r.t. to oakland to the airport that has taken years to complete. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield joins us from the coliseum station in oakland. amy? >> reporter: it's been four years since they broke ground on this project and that explains why the celebration behind me is such a big one.

they say, b.a.r.t. officials say that this eight and a half minute train ride is going to make a big difference for airport travelers. football fans arriving for this weekend's big game still have to catch a bus from oakland's airport to a b.a.r.t. train, but this will be the last time. >> we just came in. we had to ride the bus. but when we come back to the airport on sunday, we are taking the b.a.r.t. all the way into the airport and can't wait. >> reporter: the b.a.r.t. connector between the oakland coliseum station and the airport will start running at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow, four years after officials broke ground on the project. >> it's about time. it's long overdue. no more traffic jams or waiting in line. >> reporter: b.a.r.t. officials have been watching the calendar. they say they have been pressuring their contractors and testing the line in the overnight hours to make sure this service was available in time for the busy holiday season. >> we were running trains in a loop for 30 straight hours. we were testing the escalators,

elevators. so much more goes into it than just the train service. we have been having neighboring fire departments, police departments, first responders, come do drills with us. >> reporter: a one-way ride on the new connector will cost you $6, twice as much as the bus. but officials don't think that will keep people from climbing on board. >> lot of people said no one's ever going to take b.a.r.t. to sfo, it's too expensive, it's a long trip. it's our fastest growing line. >> reporter: you can try out the train for free today. it will be open to the public for free from 1:00 to 3:00 this afternoon. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thank you very much. arson investigators are at the scene in the bayview district trying to figure out how a fire at a coffee shop started. the fire broke out at the first cup coffee at newcomb and mckinnen avenue around 6:00 this morning. firefighters were able to get the fire under control in less than a half hour. apartments above and next to the shop were damaged. the residents were evacuated but everybody got out safely.

in less than two hours, president obama will sign an executive order to make sweeping changes to the nation's immigration system. >> but this morning, republican lawmakers have come out fighting. abc 7 news reporter nick smith joins us from the newsroom. >> the president is on his way to las vegas just before 1:00 our time. he will sign the executive order at the same high school where he unveiled his sweeping blueprint for a national immigration overhaul two years ago. but republicans aren't taking it sitting down. >> the action by the president yesterday will only encourage more people to come here illegally. >> reporter: the gloves are off. house speaker john boehner prepared to go toe-to-toe with the president. mr. obama addressed the nation yesterday, saying he was using the powers of the oval office to make the biggest changes to the nation's immigration system in decades. >> if you meet the criteria, you can come out of the shadows and get right with the law. >> reporter: the president's executive order would shield about five million undocumented immigrants from deportation. they will be eligible to obtain

temporary legal status and work permits if they have been in the u.s. more than five years, have no criminal record, and pay a fee of about $500. the president's changes will go into effect in the spring. supporters believe it can't happen soon enough. and will keep families together. >> i'm delighted. i'm just happy this is happening. >> i know it's not going to be tonight, right now, but it's going to be soon. >> reporter: if the republican-led house has its way, the party will be short-lived. house speaker john boehner vowing to push back. >> the people's house will rise to this challenge. we will not stand idle as the president undermines the rule of law in our country and places lives at risk. >> reporter: speaker boehner did not say how or when he would act. >> we will listen to the american people, we will work with our members and we will work to protect the constitution of the united states. >> reporter: republicans would likely have to pass fresh legislation to curb the executive order but that would fail in the senate at least while democrats are in control

for the rest of the year. nick smith, abc 7 news. >> nick, thank you. don't put away the umbrella yet. we have another round of rain. >> that's right. heading our way tonight. let's take a live look right now at our emeryville camera. looking at some interesting looking skies over the berkeley marina. when is the rain going to get here? abc 7 news meteorologist mike nicco is outside with some answers. oh, he's inside. >> we will stay inside today so we can do that in a few minutes. good morning. i want to talk about the fog first. it's lifted in most areas. now we are just dealing with hazy sunshine and high and midlevel clouds are on their way out ahead of the next rain maker. it stretches all the way up to the canadian border. right now we have rain falling in ukiah but the bulk of it is around crescent city. we will see an increase in clouds as the system draws near. here's what i think will happen. evening drizzle to light rain in the north bay, evening drizzle along the coast in san francisco, the rest of us will get our light to moderate rain

a south bay community is coming together this weekend to help a mother who has beaten cancer, but is now fighting a totally different cancer diagnosis. abc 7 news reporter matt keller joins us live from morgan hill whe with the inspirational story. >> reporter: this is a frightening time for this morgan hill mother with two young children. thankfully she has a loving and supportive family and also the morgan hill community stepping up to help. this is the murphy home in morgan hill. right now, two kids run this house. 3-year-old nathan and 4 month old camden. their mom, jennifer murphy, known as j.p. to her friends, is 42 miles away at stanford hospital being treated for cancer. >> the hardest part is the second cancer diagnosis. it's definitely being treated away from home. >> reporter: she was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago and was given a clean bill of health. just two weeks ago, the unthinkable. a second cancer diagnosis at the age of 31.

this time for acute myeloid leukemia. her hubby eddie and mom nancy trade off trips to the hospital and taking care of the boys. >> she just says i want to kill this, beat it, get home and be the mom i want to be to my beautiful boys. >> reporter: j.p. is an instructor at a dance studio. her students took this picture of them all dressed in orange, the color for leukemia awareness, and posted it on the studio's facebook page. the morgan hill community has rallied around the murphy family. the fitness group moms run this town has organized a 5k fun run for this saturday. >> we can only do so much. we can't take the cancer away but we can raise awareness and we can raise some just money to help in whatever way we can. >> reporter: j.p. is going through chemo and radiation with the hopes of beating cancer again. but she will be in the hospital for at least another two weeks and eventually she will have to return for a bone marrow transplant. her message isn't about the struggle, but about the courage to fight every day. >> this is the hardest journey i

going back to our breaking news in san francisco, we brought this to you at the top of the newscast. a worker in san francisco has fallen 11 stories and landed on a moving car in the heart of the financial district at montgomery and california. you are looking right now at a live picture from sky 7 hd over that intersection. >> lyanne melendez on the scene tells us the driver of the camry, that's the car the window washer fell on, is not hurt. so the driver is okay.

window washer rushed to the hospital, very hurt. he barely missed a pedestrian standing on the corner so lucky thing for that pedestrian. you can see right now that area, california at montgomery, completely shut down in that intersection. no cable cars, obviously, either. let's give you another look from the ground. this is from a woman named theresa who tweeted this. abc 7 news got permission to use this picture. you can see how damaged that toyota camry is. luckily, it came down not in the driver's side which is why that driver is standing next to the vehicle, is uninjured but look at the car. it's a total loss. >> we are still waiting to learn the condition of the window washer. we will update that for you on twitter and online at abc7news.com. meantime we want to give attention to the weather as well. we have another round of rain coming our way. >> yeah. if it's as healthy as yesterday's, we have a lot of rain coming in. that was interesting watching the game last night. i like watching games when it's snowing and raining because it's fun to watch just for me. anyway, let's take a look, show you what's going on.

at 11:20 on this friday, first we look back at the rainfall totals for the first two storms. what i mean by rain, san jose, 12 hundredths. oakland, nearly an inch. three quarters in san francisco and petaluma. two thirds in napa. inch in santa rosa. nearly half an inch in livermore. the peninsula and the south bay didn't get much. hopefully this round will be a bit bit better. i'm not really holding my breath on that one. still a little fog as we look down 101 from san rafael towards the golden gate bridge. also around walnut creek, you can see the fog is definitely lifting the haze here also. at least that is behind us. let's take a look at what's going on with live doppler 7 hd and the mass of rain is still well to our north. we had rain hit ukiah but for the most part we will be drying through the daylight hours. the farther south you are, the brighter and warmer you are going to be. we will call it dry today,

limited sunshine. dry and brighter sunday and warm next week as we head towards thanksgiving. for today, you see the cooler weather up north. low 60s there. mid 60s as you head into the sunshine down south. upper 50s to near 60 along the coast. tonight will be milder than this morning because of the cloud deck. most of us in the low to mid 50s. you can also see the rain over most of the neighborhoods tonight. here we are at noon, everybody getting cloudy, even down in the south bay. it's on the way. by 7:00, 8:00, there's the light rain in the north bay, the drizzle developing along the coast and into san francisco, and by midnight, we are starting to see that wet weather move across most of our neighborhoods and it will get heavier as we head from about 3:00 to 8:00, then from 8:00 to noon, you can see it pretty much dismatesipat. by 3:00, you can see even more sunshine breaking out. rainfall amounts, about a tenth in the south bay. you are getting the least amount. three tenths in lower elevations. quarter to three quarters in the santa cruz mountains.

up to an inch in the north bay mountains. here's the official big game forecast. increasing sunshine, 63 at 1:00. dropping down to about 62 by the time the game is over. if you are heading down to santa clara on sunday, high clouds and sunshine, 1:25 kickoff, 61. warming up to about 63 degrees. had five inches in some spots last night. tahoe looks pretty nice with increasing clouds today, a wintry mix, no accumulation of snow. it's mainly going to be wet. sunday, though, we will be making snow during the overnight hours as we drop into the 20s. a look at the accuweather seven-day forecast, looking at increasing sunshine. temperatures about the same sunday as today. then monday we start to see the sun respond or see the temperatures respond to the sun. little bit warmer, mid 60s to 70 tuesday and wednesday. then slightly cooler as we head towards thanksgiving on thursday. hard to believe it's almost here. >> not done yet. we have a gorgeous cat in the house. >> we have a beautiful cat from
