w and improved i can't believe it's not butter. it's time to believe. now at 8:00, live doppler 7 hd is tracking the third storm bringing much-needed rain to the bay area. it's falling down right now but the accuweather forecast says your weekend won't be a complete washout. i'm chris nguyen. in the storm watch rain falling across the bay area this morning. this is a live look outside at sfo as is usual today's storm could be causing delays with airlines. you might want to check with your airline if you have you a flight today. moving to the east bay a live look outside at interstate 80 from our emeryville camera. slick roads out there so be sure to slow down. staying in the east bay looking at the approach to the richmond san rafael bridge, the san

francisco we go and our kgo roof cam looking out at the financial district, rain just about everywhere. and finally down to the south bay clear conditions down there, though a live look at san jose, lisa argen picks up our storm watch coverage. lisa? >> hi there, chris. another hour or two before we see some returns down in san jose but it has lightened up in the north bay where nearly a half inch of rain. we've seen about a tenth in the higher elevations of the east bay outside our studios closing in on a quarter of an inch. so as we take a look at san francisco, you can see the light rain here. over into oakland as well and a little bit lighter to moderate rain from san leandro, 680, hayward down through union city. it is very slick out there. be careful. then you can see what happens beyond fremont. things are quiet in sunnyvale. light rain around mountain view, though, and san jose cloudy skies, half inch of rain up through the santa cruz mountains

and there is more to come . but we are looking at our camera where we have airport delays at 45 minutes, some fog, breezy winds, south winds up to 20 miles an hour. 59 in redwood city. it's 57 with limited visibility. through the next several hours it will take towards 11:00 until the showers clear the santa cruz mountains. more is to come for you along the peninsula. we'll wrap it up soon earp in the north bay and detail the rest of your weekend coming up. chris? time 8:02. break iing in the bay area all lanes are now open on 880 in hayward. the chp had closed down southbound lanes and northbound at whipple around 1:00 this morning because of police activity. we're hearing the activity may have involved a robbery suspect. everything was reopened about an hour later but there's still no word yet on what exactly the police action was all about. developing news oakland police are investigating a cash that left two people dead.

it happened last night on the corner of 27th street and north gate avenue. that's right along interstate 980. oakland police tell us a car went up on the sidewalk and hit and killed two people. the driver stayed on the scene and is cooperating with police. this morning the win dough washer who managed to survive an 11-story fall onto a car in san francisco remains in the hospital. the man was washing win he doughs above montgomery and california streets when he fell yesterday morning. abc 7 news reporter elissa harrington has a witness account you'll soenl see on 7. >> reporter: dan whaly was riding his motorcycle when -- >> the light turned green and the car in front of me started to roll forward and all after sudden this it guy comes, falls from the roof of this building. >> reporter: a window washer plunged 11 stories from the top of a building in san francisco's financial district where montgomery street meets california. the man landed on his back on a

moving car crushing the roof just feet in front of whaly. >> i'll tell you, it was so powerful, it was like a bomb went off. this car lifted up on its wheels, the whole top of the car was totally dented in. >> reporter: the car broke the man's fall. he ended up in the middle of the street still wearing his har nez. whaly held the victim's hand and waited for an ambulance. mohammed was behind the wheel of the toyota camry and amazingly escaped unscathed. >> i'm happy i didn't get hurt and i'm happy that he is okay. hopefully he can make it. >> reporter: the victim was rushed to san francisco general hospital. his daughter tells me he's in critical condition. he works for century window cleaning, a family run business based out of concord. on their website it says they are committed to the safety of their clients and employees. cal osha is investigating and confirming the company was cited for safety violations in 2008.

elissa harrington, abc 7 news. also this morning st. louis and its surrounding suburb and the nation are still waiting for a decision to come down from a grandee investigating the shooting death of an unarmed teenager in ferguson. new video into the abc 7 newsroom overnight shows supporters of michael brown holding a mostly peaceful demonstration last night. however, we have learned three people were arrested, two of which were were in anoanonymous type masks. they say the waiting game for the grand jury has many people apprehensive. >> ramping up and getting ready. ferguson, missouri, bracing for a grand jury's decision on whether or not the officer who shot and killed michael brown will face charges. it could come any day and many fear -- >> you must disperse immediately. >> reporter: it could reignite the problems that plagued this community this this summer. >> the city is really in a panic

at this point. in anticipation of this decis n decision. >> reporter: the protests have already started. three people were arrested. some worried the clashes between protesters and police could get much worse. the national guard is already here. the fbi is calling in 100 more agents. and st. louis county police have stocked up buying 650 tear gas grenades, 2,000 plastic handcuf handcuffs, pepper balls and beanbags filled with chemicals that sting the eyes and nose. the mayor saying they're simply being cautious. >> we need to be prepared for whatever happens and we will be. >> president obama urged peace. >> this is a country that allows everybody to express their views, but using any event as an excuse for violence is contrary to rule of law and contrary to who we are. >> reporter: and the decision

could be announced as soon as this weekend. and so some schools in ferguson will be closed next week as a precaution. mar marcy gonzalez, abc news, missouri. back here, the city of oakland says it is ready to deal with a solidarity demonstration expected to take place as soon as the grand jury makes its decision in the brown case. you're looking at file video of previous protests. organizers told abc 7 news this week they understand some people may be angered by whatever decision is made but are enkorncouraginging protesters no be violent. mayor jean kwan says people have nothing to fear. uc berkeley says they won't end their occupation anytime soon. dozens of students have been sleeping and eating in the lobby since wednesday night. they say they won't leave until the uc regents revoke a tuition increase approved yesterday and show more transparency in their budgets. the protesters vow to continue their takeover through the thanksgiving holiday break.

>> they certainly can dismiss this to the extent that sitting in wheeler isn't directly interfering with their daily lives, but i think it is a growing movement. >> student protesters have also taken over a four story building at uc santa cruz. the university of california has not made any attempt to remove the students by force. president obama remains in the west this morning. he's waking up in las vegas one day after air force one tuouche down in sin city to sign executive orders on immigration. this morning we're learning new details about the man who heckled the commander in chief at his speech at a local school. spencer levitt from ktnv reports. >> reporter: with a student population more than half hispanic, the high school served as an ideal backdrop for the president's announce he would be moving forward with widespread immigration reform without the are support of congress.

>> the actions that i have the legal authority to take that will help make our immigration system more fair and more just, and this morning i began to take some of those actions. >> reporter: under the president's order illegal immigrants who have lived in the country more than fave years with children who were born in america will no longer have to fear deportation as long as they pass criminal background checks and pay some fees. it was news that prompted an outburst from the crowd. >> i've heard you, young man. i've heard you and i understand. i've heard you. >> reporter: phoenix resident shouted out that the president's new policy still leaves his parents vulnerable to deportation. because jose was born in mexico. >> it's hard because so many families are going to be left out. it's not just me. it's millions of families. all we're asking for is a way to get right with the law. that's it. >> reporter: the president heard his remarks and responded. >> that's right.

welcome back, everyone. a live look this morning it at the san mateo bridge, rain continues to fall down throughout much of the region. you can see the slick roads there. when can we expect some sun? lisa will let us know coming up. new video in to the abc 7 newsroom overnight shows the ultimate broadway tribute, the late mike nichols . theaters dimmed their marquees last night. a time honored tradition for theater greats. the 83-year-old nichols who was married to abc news anchor diane sawyer for 26 years, has the rare distinction of winning an award in all four entertainment categories, oscar, tony, emmy and grammy. 8:14 the time. and new this morning for at least one night bill cosby put all the allegations of sexual abuse behind him and did what he does best, make people laugh.

this cell phone video shows cosby receiving a standing ovation as he came out for the show last night in melbourne, florida. there were a few protesters outside the venue expressing their thoughts of the numerous allegations made against cosby in the past week by several women, but for the most part people were positive. >> i want to make sure that these women know that they are being listened to and that that he being taken seriously. >> until he's proven guilty, he's innocent. >> it's tough for him right now, i'm sure. >> promoters in six states have canceled kocosby's stand-up tou. cosby has not commented on the allegations. his lawyer calls them fan ta e fantastical. at camp pendleton marine corps captain walked to a ceremony awarding him the bronze star. the fact he was even walking is amazing. herrera was paralyzed by a sniper's bullet two years ago in afghanistan.

pretty wet start to the day in the north bay. but things have considerably improved to santa rosa. you're looking at picking up a half inch, mill valley, san rafael, still wet for you. in the east bay san leandro, hayward, 680 out by bless aplea light drizzle. south san francisco, san mateo, hit and miss showers. more energy pushing into the santa cruz mountains about a half inmuch of rain here so far. and san jose, you're still cloudy but some spotty light mist and drizzle on the way. into the sierra nevada it is all rain at 47 degrees. we're talk iing truckee very mi conditions and a wet day ahead. here's a look outside santa cruz. you can see the fog right on the coast about a half mile visibility. 61 in the city. 45-minute delays at s it fo.

half moon bay very foggy and breezy. the winds gusting to over 20 miles an hour. here's a look at our soggy walnut creek camera. the rain is still coming down. fairfield 54 degrees and south winds will switch around to westerly components today once the front pushes on through. so with the fog, the rain, the delays at sfo, 2 1/2 mile visibility, napa, and it is dicey through the delta as well. here is san jose. what's all the fuss about, right? cloudy skies but some scattered showers through the 10:00, 11:00 hour and we'll see less than a tenth of an inch in the south bay and, unfortunately, the winner is the north bay. rain spreading south, partly sunny this afternoon. much warmer and an offshore flow for the upcoming week before thanksgiving. so you can see all the moisture over northern california, but this ridge is going to build in, shut off the rain and we will be looking at a dry second half of the day. so 9:00 it's still raining 580 and 680 in the east bay, that's in the next hour, and we're

looking at the showers in the santa cruz mountains but through 10:00 still some wet with weather. 11:00, it's drying out and by noontime a few scattered light showers and partly sunny conditions for the second half of the day. so we will be looking at highs today in the low 60s. half moon bay, kind of gray here throughout most of the day. and we'll be clearing here after the lunch hour. it will take some time throughout the rest of the bay but still forecasting a dry day today for the second half of the game. the first part could see a little bit of mist and drizzle, cloudy skies. then low 60s throughout the afternoon. over in berkeley the accuweather seven-day forecast, tomorrow some fog and then sunny conditions. once again 60s, upper 60s inland. high pressure builds monday, tuesday, wednesday. we're talking mid, maybe some upper 70s. 70 at the coast. thanksgiving looks dry and pleasant. maybe some rain. another weak system could last through next weekend. abc 7 news is another great weather resource for you to follow. that's following this right there. that's the live radar sweep. you can see on the iphone there.

designed. starting december 5 plussed size clothing can be returned at scores instead of customers having to ship it back. the entire line is only sold online. there will be a new customer panel on plus sized fashion. the holiday season is here and that means more people are vulnerable to becoming victims of a common crime. you've seen this before. package thieves swiping deliveries directly off the doorsteps of homes. as abc 7 news reporter jonathan bloom shows us, it's a problem one san francisco tech startup is trying to stop. >> reporter: if you shop online you've probably gotten one of these. >> you get a little note on your door and you have to play tag and go pick it up. >> reporter: consider what could happen if they leave it there. strangers walking up to the door and making off with the merchandise. >> the tracking number said it was delivered but i never got the package. >> reporter: it happens all year round but more around the holidays, all those gifts left

on doorsteps are one huge gift to thieves. >> who is at their home in the middle of the day just able to wait for a package to show up? >> reporter: the root of the problem is simple, the post office and shipping carriers mainly deliver during the day, the time when most people are supposed to be at work. so here in san francisco at least, startups are trying to come to the rescue. >> i always felt like i was being punished by the current delivery system for having a full-time job and, you know, the question was, why can't this be delivered when i'm actually h e home? >> reporter: zander adele founded doorman. instead of shipping to your own address you have the rae tailer ship the package to them. >> you use the doorman app to schedule delivery until midnight seven days a week. >> reporter: drivers hand off the package in person and you sign for it on a smartphone. it's $4 a package or $20 a month. >> that eliminates virtually all the risk of theft. >> reporter: anthony says it is the boldest attempt to solve the last mile of online shopping.

thanks for joining us on the abc 7 saturday morning news. i'm chris nguyen. we're on the storm watch for you that morning. a quick look outside with some of our abc 7 cameras right now. the time is 8:30 and you can see here the golden gate bridge. no major accidents to report s despite the rain. that's the good news but moving to our kgo roof cam a live look this morning at the embarcadero. you can see drivers still dealing with a slick commute. moving down to the south bay, a clear commute along 101 in san jose, but you're not out of the woods just yet. lisa argen is here now with live doppler 7 hd. lisa? >> hi, chris. good morning to you. we have fog and also some breezy winds to boot with the wet weather. so the front has moved through parts of the north bay but we'll take you in for a radar tour. you can see still the southern half of marin county is wet. richmond, san rafael bridge over into the east bay, hercules, wet

weather. berkeley a bit after break now with mist and drizzle there through oakland. more very light rain through san leandro, hayward, the san ramone valley but over on the peninsula some breaks. not much happening here, san mateo, light rain. we call it the rain shadow effect where we get the enhancement, the lift from the higher elevations, the hills, and then on the other side, yeah, it's dry. so we've had some sunshine down around san jose. you'll see a few scattering of some very light shower activity through the 11:00 hour . here is a look at santa cruz where it is foggy and we'll look for the morning rain, afternoon partly sunny skies, low to mid-60s for you if you're around the bay, on the coast, upper 60s inland and, boy, we have a seven-day outlook we don't want to miss. we'll be back with it in a few minutes. 8:31 the time. b.a.r.t.'s new people mover is open to the public. b.a.r.t. to oak went into service. the new system connects the coliseum b.a.r.t. system to oakland airport.

littllian kim got a sneak peek d takes us for a ride. >> reporter: the new driverless b.a.r.t. train connecting to oakland international deals with no traffic lights and no street congestion just an elevated track that runs for 3.1 miles. cables along the guideway pull the three-car trains which travel at 30 miles per hour. >> i like the fact you're able to see all of the community while you're riding along. it was a really nice ride. >> reporter: bay area leaders gathered at the platform to celebrate the completion of the nearly half billion dollar project, 30 years in the making with funding troubles and community pushback along the way. >> there were some what you would legitimately say were legitimate naysayers about the cost to this project and, yes, now that it's open and now that people will use it, you will not hear that naysaying. >> reporter: it will cost $3 more than on a bus with which is

15 to 20 minutes but b.a.r.t. riders who showed up today aren't complaining. >> i think it's more convenient to hop on this train rather than waiting for the bus and trying to get my luggage up onto a bus. >> reporter: the trains will arrive at the platform every five, ten, or 20 minutes depending on the time of day. lilian kim, abc 7 news. we're now hearing from the stockton 14-year-old who is at the center of the video going viral across the country. as we first showed you yesterday, this video cheerily shows a stockton p.e. teacher trying to drag the 14-year-old into a pool. that teach certificate facing charges. tim daly reports. he made me feel so uncomfortable. >> reporter: this is the edison high school freshman seen on the video that has exploded on the internet. >> help me! help me! >> reporter: sandra garcia agreed to swim laps in that p.e. class but when she didn't want to get her hair wet, she got out of the pool and sat in the

bleachers. before another student started shooting that struggle, sandra says teacher dennis peterson went to her. >> i thought -- he grabbed me by my ankles and tried to pull me down. i was telling him, stop, leave me alone. you can't be touching me. >> reporter: it happened in august. cops were called and peterson was put on paid leave for a month, but then brought back and assigned to another stockton school. that's why sandra and her mom are so angry and talk iing. they can't believe peterson was back on a campus. >> time goes by and then i find out he's working at an elementary now where girls are more vulnerable, they're younger, and he's working? >> reporter: it was this week we learned peterson faces the misdemeanor charge of corporal injury to a child, but stockton unified wasn't aware of that until news 10 told the district. and now peterson is back on paid

leave. the garces say these he are sandra's bruises after that struggle by the pool. their attorney is preparing a claim against the district which will likely lead to a lawsuit. and we've attempted to reach the teach earp for his side of the story, but we haven't heard back. what should that teacher have done that day? >> had self-control and he didn't. >> reporter: tim daly for abc 7 news. new this morning pope francis is meeting children with autism at the vatican. this video just came in to the abc 7 newsroom. the vatican is hosting a three-day conference on health issues with a special focus on you autism. church officials say the pope wants to let families coping with autism know that they are loved. he wants it to remove some of the stigma that exists for those who fall in the autism spectrum. in italy autism is largely unknown and undiagnosed. the bay area's largest city could soon be responding to a growing trend among travelers.

to meet new friends while making extra cab. >> it's helping people, the end users finding better ways to stay in cities and with people and for people to help people i think it's he been a good service. >> but under consideration in san jose a pilot program that would regular hate shote short housing. >> i think there needs to be a limit so we're not displacing a supply of rental housing that we critically need right now in our city as we're seeing rent skyrocket. >> reporter: the proposed ordinance would allow hosts to rent out their homes for 180 days a year. any reservation the host is also present would not be subject to that rule but visitors would have to pay a 10% tax on any stays under 30 days. >> it's going to provide a level playing field between hotels and air b&b hosts and we think that's fair. >> reporter: taxes would go into the city's general fund. advocates say it's key to put rules in place but stress the importance of getting it right. >> i want to make sure we have the appropriate amount of outreach and are hearing all the
