>> good morning, i'm carolyn tyler. thanks for joining us on this sunday, november 23rd. let's start with a quick look at the weather with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> good morning, carolyn. live doppler 7hd, quite a different picture this morning compared to yesterday. nice and quiet. clear conditions here. a little fog out by the delta. and differ more. good visibility san francisco, one of the warmer locations in the mid-50s, as well as half moon bay. we have 46 redwood city. 50 down in morgan hill, and your forecast today calls for plenty ever clear sky. high pressure building in, mixes out the atmosphere just enough to keep the fog from forming this morning. low and mid-60s from our coast to san francisco. look for mid-and upper 06 was he around the bay and inland.

today starts a warming trend around the bay. i'll let you know if it lasts through thanksgiving and whether or not we will have rain in the seven-day outlook. carolyn. >> thank you, lisa >> san francisco police have released a sketch of a man who sexually' assaulted a girl in a park bathroom. police released this very much last night based on a description by the victim. he tried to assault the 7-year-old friday at lafayette park in pacific heights. abc7 news reporter nick smith has the details. >> it seems like the safe he felt park i could ever imagine, and it's actually not. i think parents take false comfort in that, and i think that's the risk. >> it may have been the perfect opportunity for someone up to no good. we were there as officers with the san francisco police department went to the place they say a 7-year-old girl was attacked. the call blast ag cross police radio. >> a 7-year-old female was

assaulted in the restroom in lafayette park in the northern district. >> in this area you wouldn't think it would happen. >> the beige colored walls and decorative tiles are out of sight from the play area so popular with parents. cops sprung into action. >> i got here around 4:00, 4:15 and there were a couple squad cars on that end of the park and police were milling around talking with some of the folks that were here. >> phasecally she's expected to make a full recovery but the trauma of what happened may take a while. >> don't assume anything. you can never be too safe. >> you have to follow them and take the extra step and not keep them out of your sight. >> mothers and fathers holding their also ones are a little closer. in san francisco, nick smith, abc7 news. breaking overnight, a double fatality due to a wrong way driver closed southbound lanes of 101 in novato for a short time this morning. just after midnight the chp

received 911 calls of a wrong way driver going northbound in the southbound lanes of 101 near san antonio drive. that car slammed head on into another. both male drivers were killed. a female passenger in the wrong way car was cut out of the wreckage. she is hospitalized this morning with major injuries. a third car involved in the crash, that driver was uninjured. officers believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. a driver is shaken but uninjured after her car was hit by a train in south san francisco. it happened on the caltrain tracks of south linden and dollar avenue just before 7:30 last night. a northbound train hit the car which was stopped on the tracks. it's still unclear how the driver ended up there. caltrain service was stopped for more than an hour. no one on the train was hurd. new this morning, a fran mom and dad are breathing sighs of

relief after finding their twelve-year-old daughter who had been missing for almost two weeks. she was found by her parents riding a muni bus yesterday afternoon. she had been missing since november 10th when her dade said she may have been lured away by a stranger on social media. there were fears that she may have been a human sex trafficking victim. a doctor evaluated amani and found her to be in good health with no visible injuries. work has begun on the western span of the bay bridge near san francisco to replace aging giants. at times traffic will be backed up. this is a live look right now at the bridge from our bay bridge toll camera. you can see very light traffic early this morning. everything going well. but it's not just traffic that has some people frustrated by the work. abc7 news reporter alyssa harrington explains. >> some san francisco residents

who live near the bay bridge say they are losing sleep. >> sounds like a sledgehammer all night long. >> caltran is replacing old, deteriorated expansion giants. >> the $2.7 million project will take 10 to 12 weeks to complete. the work is schedule today tapes overnight. it includes closing some lanes of traffic while crews use jack hammers to remove concrete. >> i have to get up in the morning and go to work, you know. i realize i'm living in a city, but, i mean, this is beyond the scope. >> most of the people who live in the neighborhood are professionals and they work in the financial district or in south beach. so, you know, busy professionals, we would like to get a good night's sleep. >> i spoke with a caltrans spokesman on the phone. he said they are listening to complaints and every night they will take care of the jackhammering first. >> the crews know about it. we know there are people living nearby so they try to get that work done as quickly as they can, by midnight at the very

latest. >> he said despite the inconvenience, it's imperative to get the work done as soon as possible. some giants are almost 80 years old. they are so worn down, in april a hole opened in the upper deck of the bridge. they tossed the original plan after metal plates that covered the work caused a massive traffic jam. they have crews working 6 nights a week using rapid-set concrete. alyssa harrington on, abc7 news. controversial former washington d.c. mayor marion barry has died. he served as mayor between 1978 and 1990 when he was arrested for possession of crack cocaine. video emerged showing him smoking the drug. a spokesperson said barry died shortly after midnight in a hospital in washington, d.c. no cause of death is given. despite his problems, he maintained a solid following,

atlantic in lower income, primarily black sections of the city. he was elect nod the city council in 2004. marion barry dead at the age of 78. this morning in missouri barricades are being placed around the building with a grand jury has been deliberating whether or not to inedita white police officers in the murder of an unarmed black teenager. authorities in st. louis say the grand jury will reconvene tomorrow. in august ferguson police officer darren wilson shot and killed 18-year-old michael brown, and since then there have been rallies, some peaceful, some violent. abc's karen traverse will have a live work on the issue at the bottom of the hour. new details out of japan this morning where aerial surveys are showing more damage than previously thought from yesterday's earthquake. a magnitude 6.7 tumbler hit near the city of nagano. at least 37 homes have been destroyed. 38 people have been injured,

bay area. the person had been on the run since the students disappeared back in september. he's accused of helping round up the students and hand them over to a drug gang to be killed. police arrested gonzales last week but that was just revealed yesterday. the mayor of the city in mexico and his wife were also charged in the murders. 75 people have been arrested for the crime so far. 19-year-old israel jacinto lagardo from san jose were among those 43 students who were killed. three months after the napa earthquake the aftereffects are still being felt. in this case a storage unit containing items for troops overseas remains off-limits for those wanting to give back. lisa amin gulezian has the details. >> the metal on two sides of napa self storage is warped, bent and unstable. the entire building housing 200

look at that. it's adorned with thousands of bows, ornaments and twinkling lights and the tree is just the beginning. friends from the disneyland resort have teamed up with pier 39 for two days of merriment. you can join spencer next sunday for the special presentation of the pier 39 holiday tree lighting celebration. it airs november 30th at 6:30 on abc7. and, wow, the holiday came so quickly this year. >> it does every year. a little wind out there from not dropping too low but it's dropped to the upper 30s in petaluma. and we are waiting until about 6:58 until the sun comes up. a sunny and milder day today. in fact, for the next several days we will have some pretty decent weather around here, for the most part.

clear and cool this morning for the most part. sunny skies return this afternoon. we will see temperatures a couple degrees warmer than yesterday. high pressure builds even further in the days ahead. we will look for the warmest day to perhaps be wednesday. high pressure still hanging on through thanksgiving. then looks like some rain coming back into the picture for next friday and next weekend. so we have a light offshore wind this morning as high pressure slowly begins to build. right now temperatures will be seasonal for the second half of your weekend. and we are looking at the jet stream being pushed further to the north and that will allow for the high to build in, the winds to switch around to an offshore component, and it should be, in fact, not only are temperatures much milder through tuesday and wednesday, ten degrees above average. we are looking at pretty good weather for traveling as you head out of town or are expecting visitors. we had three systems, if you remember, and since wednesday look at kentfield. over 3 inches of rain.

san francisco picked up an additional inch with oakland 1.78. but you notice los gatos, san jose and redwood city falling way behind here. but overall these numbers translate to anywhere from 50 to 70% of normal for this time. year. certainly not bad. we could use more, though. 63 in monterey today. very gusty winds in los angeles. we look for highs ranging from 62 half moon bay, 67 fremont. morgan hill. and 70 up by the delta. accuweather seven-day forecast, look at all the sunshine. today, tomorrow, through the middle of the week with steadily warming temperatures. in fact by wednesday 70 coastside, mid-70s inland. still nice for thanksgiving. here comes the rain next friday into saturday. so, you know, it looks like a one-two punch there with a little rain friday and then more on saturday >> all right. >> don't get your tree that weekend. >> well, yeah. don't get it so early that it

president obama has signed a secret ordering defining a more expansive mission for the military in afghanistan next year. it would ensure american troops have a direct role in carrying out missions against militant groups. new authorization also i a loud american jets, bombers and drones to support afghan troops on combat missions.

president obama earlier said u.s. troops would have no combat role in afghanistan next year. gluten-free diets seem to be more popular than ever. a third of americans this a new "consumer reports" survey say they try to buy gluten free foods or avoid gluten. but "consumer reports" says going gluten freehan pose some risk. here's abc7 news reporter ama daetz. >> foods are labeled gloaten free from oatmeal to others. and about 7% of americans can't eat gluten because they have celiac disease or diagnosed gluten sensitivity. but how good is a gluten-free diet tore everyone else? to find out, we reviewed nutrition labels from more than 80 gluten free foods. >> people think it will help them lose weight or better digestion or a host of health

here inside this bathroom at lafayette park located at goth and washington streets. parents we talked to said lafayette is one of the safest parks they could imagine. please are declining to provide any information about the victim, citing privacy concerns. the wait continues this morning in and around ferguson, missouri. the grand jury deciding to bring charges against a police officer won't meet until tomorrow. meanwhile the tension grows and precautions are being taken. abc's karen traverse joins us live from clayton, missouri with the story. karen, what can you tell us about the atmosphere this past weekend? >> good morning, carolyn. demonstrations have been taking place daily. and for the most part they are orderly and peaceful, as they have been since the august shooting death of michael brown. as you said, the grand jury will reconvene tomorrow. they took a weekend off.

speaking to locals, you get a sense, a heightened sense of anxiety as this imminent decision comes soon. >> overnight at least two people arrested after quiet, peaceful protests. michael brown's mother marching and calling for calm. >> we've remained peaceful the entire time and i don't think it's going to change because it's who we are. we are peaceful people. >> the anxious waiting in ferguson continues. >> it's a really heavy heart all around st. louis. >> the grand jury took the weekend off. it will reconvene monday to continue their work to decide when officer darren wilson will face charges in the shooting death of unarmed teenager michael brown. nine votes are needed to indict. the grand jury has the same racial makeup as the county. nervous residents are hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. >> i think you might have some

are racial slurs and they want the team to change it. a no honor in racism rally will be held at 10:00 this morning at the stadium. native activists will be discussing the mascot issue as part of a larger fight against racism and colonialism. police hope surveillance video will help them nab the man breaking into a home in vallejo. this surveillance video shows a man running outs of the home with something tucked under his left arm. police say it happened on thursday morning on skyline drive in vallejo. moments august see him looking in the window and looking around to see if anybody was there. a homeowner says a computer was taken. he false this frustrating and scary. uc students are planning a system-wide walkout tomorrow to protest the tuition hike approved by university regents. protesting students at u.c. berkeley took their message to

the big game yesterday. they dressed in green and hand out green ribbons. they are asking other students to wear the ribbons to show opposition to the hikes. last week the regents voted to raise tuition by up to 5% a year for the next five years. some students are still occupying wheeler hall on campus. they are now trying to figure out their next move. >> we've been holding the space and we expect to hold it as long as necessary until we have the appropriate dialogue that ends the way that we want it to, which is that the burden of this financial situation is not put on the students. >> the students have been camped out at wheeler hall since last wednesday. work began overnight on the western span. bay bridge near san francisco to replace aging giants, and that's got some residents upset. this is a live look at the bridge where westbound traffic is moving quite well on this sunday morning. the project will take ten to twelve weeks to complete. the work is scheduled to take

they are no bargain. they didn't earn high scores for performance and one could be a counterfeit. tires are expensive. s.u.v., truck tires consumer reports cost more than $150 each. so this 95-dollar tire from china, the pegasus, seemed like a bargain. a set of those tires went through standard tests and they came in at the bottom of the rating. >> these tires did not grip well in snow. they were short in terms of tread bites when compared to the other models and they made for a rough and noisy ride. >> even worse, the tires could be fake. api, the u.s. company that owns the pegasus brand, stopped using the tires three years ago. the letter from the chief operating officer said many of our molds went missing. we have no idea who may have made these tires or what they put in them. consumer reports bought the tires from the website

hill. from our east bay hills camera, looks pretty good here from this vantage point. temperatures mainly in the low 40s. 41 petaluma, 43 concord and 46 in fog out in livermore. so we are look at temperatures since yesterday plummeting where the clear sky. and that light northerly wind around the bay. that is allowing for the cool temperatures and not much in the way of fog. 7 degrees cooler in san carlos, but most areas much, muff chillier. we will make up for that throughout the afternoon as high pressure sits off the coast, bringing us plenty of sunshine. but temperatures will steadily warm through the next several days with sunny averages, cool nights, and high pressure in control. the warmest day should be the middle of the week but the high lingers through thanksgiving day. after that, though, things definitely will be changing as the high breaks down and we you shaller in more rain. so a light offshore flow with us today. we talked about that.

out in the pacific there is high pressure. there will be high pressure at the surface and upper levels of the atmosphere allowing for the warming trend through the middle of the week. it's been windy in southern california and it things today. the santa ana's really cranking up. upper 50s in the southern sierra and the rain over in the norther sierra. notice cloud cover into the north bay. mostly a sunny day today. low 60s half moon bay, some of the warmer locations inland. it should be pretty nice at oakland at 66. 67 in vallejo. by the delta we are talking about 70 degrees there. if you are headed down to santa clara, more sunshine for you. low to mid-60s around 1:00, 3:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon. so a beautiful day there. the accuweather seven-day forecast, the warmer temperatures throughout the afternoon. the cool nights. look at the 70s arrive around the bay, even at the coast. and looking at the ridge breaking down, bringing some
