>> good morning, i'm carolyn tyler. thanks for joining us on this sunday, november 23rd. i'm carolyn tyler. let's start with a quick look at the weather with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> hi there, carolyn. good morning to you. some fog forming in our east bay valleys. the sun coming up in less than an hour, and we are relatively clear. visibility reduced a by the way, out over the hills. but from this vantage point it's nice out there. as much as 7 to 15 degrees cooler this morning. than yesterday morning. and concord down to 43 degrees. here's the way it looks outside our studios. our roof camera where skies are clear and later on today low 60s from half moon bay, about 65 san francisco. mid-to upper 60s for points around the bay. castro valley inland we could see a few numbers in the upper 60s approaching 70 by the delta. so it's a seasonal day today.

we will return to the rain which is included in the 7 day out outlook. >> san francisco police have released a sketch of a man suspected of trying to sexually assault a girl in a playground bathroom. take a look. investigators released this sketch late last night based on on a description given by the victim. abc7 news reporter nick smith has the details. >> it seems like the safest park i could ever imagine, and it's actually not. i think parents take false comfort in that, and i think that's the risk. >> it may have been the perfect opportunity for someone up to no good. we were there as officers with the san francisco police department went to the place they say a 7-year-old girl was attacked. the call blasting across police radios. >> a 7-year-old female was

assaulted in the female restroom in lafayette park in the northern district. >> in this area you wouldn't think it would happen. >> the beige colored walls and decorative tiles are out of sight from the play area so popular with parents. marshall butler saw cops spring into action. >> i got here around 4:00, 4:15 and there were a couple squad cars on that end of the park and police were milling around talking with some of the folks that were here. >> physically she's expected to make a full recovery, but the trauma of what happened may take a while. >> don't assume anything. you can never be too safe. >> you have to follow them and take the extra step and not keep them out of your sight. >> mothers and fathers holding their also ones are a little closer. in san francisco, nick smith, abc7 news. breaking overnight, a double fatality due to a wrong way driver closed southbound lanes of 101 in novato for a short time this morning. just after midnight the chp received 911 calls of a wrong

way driver going northbound in the southbound lanes of 101 near san antonio drive. -- near the redwood sanitary landfill. that car slammed head on into another. both male drivers were killed. a female passenger in the wrong way car was cut out of the wreckage. she is hospitalized this morning with major injuries. a third car involved in the crash, that driver was uninjured. officers believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. a driver is shaken, but uninjured, after her car was hit by a train in south san francisco. it happened on the caltrain tracks of south linden and dollar avenue just before 7:30 last night. a northbound train hit the car which was stopped on the tracks. it's still unclear how the driver ended up there. caltrain service was stopped for more than an hour. no one on the train was hurt.

new this morning, a san francisco mom and dad are breathing sighs of relief after finding their twelve-year-old daughter who had been missing for almost two weeks. she was found by her parents riding a muni bus yesterday afternoon. she had been missing since november 10th when her dade said she may have been lured away by a stranger on social media. there were fears that she may have been a human sex trafficking victim. her father said a doctor evaluated amani and found her to be in good health with no visible injuries. work has begun on the western span of the bay bridge near san francisco to replace aging giants. -- aging joints. at times traffic will be backed up. this is a live look right now at the bridge from our bay bridge toll camera. you can see very light traffic early this morning. everything going well. but it's not just traffic that has some people frustrated by the work. abc7 news reporter alyssa harrington explains. >> some san francisco residents who live near the bay bridge say they are losing sleep.

>> sounds like a sledgehammer all night long. >> caltrans is replacing old, deteriorated expansion joints. >> the $2.7 million project will take 10 to 12 weeks to complete. the work is scheduled to take place overnight. it includes closing some lanes of traffic while crews use jack hammers to remove concrete. >> i have to get up in the morning and go to work, you know. i realize i'm living in a city, but, i mean, this is beyond the scope. >> most of the people who live in the neighborhood are professionals and they work in the financial district or in south beach. so, you know, busy professionals, we would like to get a good night's sleep. >> i spoke with a caltrans spokesman on the phone. he said they are listening to complaints and every night they will take care of the jackhammering first. >> the crews know about it. we know there are people living nearby, so they try to get that work done as quickly as they can, by midnight at the very latest. >> he said despite the inconvenience, it's imperative to get the work done as soon as possible.

some joints are almost 80 years old. they are so worn down, in april a hole opened in the upper deck of the bridge. caltrans tossed the original plan after metal plates that covered the work caused a massive traffic jam. they have crews working 6 nights a week using rapid-set concrete. in san francisco, alyssa harrington on, abc7 news. controversial former washington d.c. mayor marion barry has died. barry had long political and civil rights career. he served as mayor between 1978 and 1990 when he was arrested for possession of crack cocaine. video emerged showing him smoking the drug. a spokesperson said barry died shortly after midnight in a hospital in washington, d.c. no cause of death is given. despite his problems, he maintained a solid following,

particularly in lower income, primarily black sections of the city. he was elected in the city council in 2004. marion barry dead at the age of 78. this morning in missouri barricades are being placed around the building with a grand jury has been deliberating whether or not to indict a white police officers in the murder of an unarmed black teenager. authorities in st. louis say the grand jury will reconvene tomorrow. in august ferguson police officer darren wilson shot and killed 18-year-old michael brown, and since then there have been rallies, some peaceful, some violent. abc's karen traverse will have a live report at the bottom of the hour. new details out of japan this morning where aerial surveys are showing more damage than previously thought from yesterday's earthquake. a magnitude 6.7 tumbler hit near the city of nagano. at least 37 homes have been destroyed. 38 people have been injured,

mexico is in custody this morning facing new charges in connection with the murders of 43 college students, including one from here in the bay area. mr. gonzales had been on the run since the students disappeared back in september. he's accused of helping round up the students and handing them over to a drug gang to be killed. police arrested gonzales last week, but that was just revealed yesterday. the mayor of the city in mexico and his wife were also charged in the murders. 75 people have been arrested for the crime so far. 19-year-old israel jacinto lagardo from san jose were among those 43 students who were killed. three months after the napa earthquake, the aftereffects are still being felt. in this case a storage unit containing items for troops overseas remains off-limits for those wanting to give back. abc7 news reporter lisa amin

>> those who run "operation with love from home" can't wait any longer. they send care packages to troops. >> it breaks our heart what we had in there, and getting it back is going to be rough. >> these are all new donations and a new storage unit. it likely won't be enough of meeting their goal of sending 1,000 care packages next month. >> this is such a movement of the heart, this program, and it's extremely disappointing to know that we can't send this overseas. >> we've just learned the city of napa has agreed to get involved. it will reach out to the owners of the self-storage company to find out what exactly is going on and tenants will be briefed 2nd. in napa, lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. bart's new people mover between oakland international airport and the coliseum station and getting good reviews from passengers so far. the new driverless trains went into service yesterday. they take just 8 minutes to carry riders more than three miles on an elevated track. the three-car trains are pulled by cables. they travel at 30 miles an hour. a one-way ride costs six dollars.

cover. the rain. boy, it was much warmer and we are 20 degrees cooler than we were yesterday at this time in santa rosa. everyone feeling the november chill this morning. so with that being said, we will allow this to continue for the next several days. and the clear sky in the afternoon. pretty shot here. our exploratorium camera. clear and cool, sunny this afternoon. high pressure sits off the coast. it builds in the next several days, allowing for steadily warming temperatures through the middle of the week. and then a few more clouds around by thanksgiving. the ridge breaks down. more welcome rain by next friday. but here and now you can see the state of california high and dry with the storm tractioned to the north. high pressure sits offshore. we will have double barrel high pressure and a slight offshore push in the days ahead. that will allow for sustenance, the compressional hearing, it allows for the warming and, in fact, temperatures climbing well to the 70s by the middle of

officers say the suspect is a white male with brown hair between 30 and 40 years old. he was wearing an orange sweatshirt when he ran away late friday afternoon. the attempted assault occurred here inside this bathroom at lafayette park located at goth and washington streets. parents we talked to said lafayette is one of the safest parks they could imagine. please are declining to provide any information about the victim, citing privacy concerns. >> dozens of indigenous groups plan to rally in front. levi's stadium before today's 49ers game to protest the name. opponent's. many think the team's name, the washington redskins, is a racial slur a "no house on old-timers are in in race similar rally" will be held at 10:00 this morning at the stadium. it will be discussed as part of a larger fight against racism

and colonialism >> police hope surveillance video will help them nab the man caught breaking into home in vallejo. this surveillance video shows a man running outs of the home with something tucked under his left arm. police say it happened on thursday morning on skyline drive in vallejo. moments august see him looking in the window and looking around to see if anybody was there. a homeowner says a computer was taken. he calls this frustrating and scary. uc students are planning a system-wide walkout tomorrow to protest the tuition hike approved by university regents. protesting students at u.c. berkeley took their message to the big game yesterday. they dressed in green and handing out green ribbons. they are asking other students to wear the ribbons to show opposition to the hikes. last week the regents voted to raise tuition by up to 5% a year for the next five years.

and in recent days they have been peaceful and orderly, as they have been since the august shooting death of michael brown. but you definitely get that sense, talking to people here, a heightened state of anxiety about the grand jury's imminent decision. >> overnight at east two people arrested after quiet, peaceful pro 70s. michael brown's mother marching and calling for calm. >> we've remained peaceful the entire time and i don't think it's going to change because it's who we are. we are peaceful people. >> the anxious waiting in ferguson continues. >> it's a really heavy heart all around st. louis. >> the grand jury took the weekend off. it will reconvene monday to continue their work to decide whether officer darren wilson will face charges in the shooting death of unarmed teenager, michael brown. nine votes are needed to indict. the grand jury has the same racial makeup as the county. nine white jurors, three black jurors, seven men, five women.

noisy ride. >> even worse, the tires could be fakes. api, the u.s.-based company that owns the pegasus brand, says it stopped using the chinese factory that made the tires three years ago. a letter from api's chief operating officer says: "many of our molds went missing -- we have no idea who may have made these tires, nor what they put in them." consumer reports bought the tires from the website tires-easy.com. its president says the tires came from an importer. >> we contacted the importer and several government agencies and unfortunately no one is really owning responsibility. that leaves the consumer little recourse should something go wrong. >> consumer reports tested two other inexpensive suv tires from china - the $85 sunny and the $114 geostar. they didn't perform well in the snow and ice tests and scored much lower overall than the top-rated michelin latitude tour that costs $168. >> your tires are a key safety component of your car, which is why we always recommend that people go with the best performing tire they can

a burglar in south africa ran into his worst fear while trying to break into a home. surveillance video caught him prowling around a home last week when suddenly he takes off running and hops the fence. you can see a teeny tiny dog on his tail. it's a yorkshire terrier, weighing only about five pounds. police eventually arrested the man. he says he suffers from cynophobia, which is an abnormal fear of dogs. have you ever heard of that? >> no. >> no. in buffalo, new york this morning, a ban on driving continues so dump trucks can remove mountains of snow from city streets. the good news is the snow has stopped falling. the bad news, it's beginning to warm up and to rain, raising the threat of flooding. in fact, a flood warning is in effect until tomorrow afternoon. more than 30 roofs have

livermore, 15 degrees cooler. you know, though, visibility here has been reduced to about a quarter mile. that's due to the calm winds. temperatures the same as the dewpoint. but enough of a wind elsewhere to keep much of the fog from forming. finally mt. tam, look at that. you know it's on the way. a beautiful, sunny, mild day today. we will look for temperatures to be around seasonal averages this afternoon. we will warm up beginning tomorrow into tuesday. in fact, right through wednesday we will have temperatures as much as 10 degrees above average. you see here thanksgiving. it will still be very nice. the ridge begins to break down, but still plenty of 60s for thanksgiving. and after that come the changes. so the timing working out pretty good with the next seven days. there's a light offshore flow keeps the averages mild, sunny, warm with high pressure building in. the nights will be cool with some patchy frost in some of the protected valleys. and we will be looking at very little in the way of travel

marine biologists in monterey have captured video of a rare fish for the first time ever. here's a look at the sea devil. video was recorded last week 2,000 feet below the ocean surface in monterey bay. the species of the angler fish looks terrifying, but it's only about 3.5 inches long. it has a luminescent appendage that looks like a fishing pole on its head, used to attract prey. researchers captured the fish to learn about how it navigates in the dark depths of the season. and it's a sea devil, not a she-devil. >> very good. good morning. we are starting out clear and cold with plenty of 40s and the afternoon sunshine on the way warming us up to the mid-60s in oakland with 68 san jose. 62 half moon bay. san francisco in the mid-60s and
