a -- so an altercation ensued from that. four or five cats tried to jump me and do spray paint cans and different things. >> reporter: rick rafontae is a landlord of a building at 51st and telegraph. >> whatever your issue is, my guess is this doesn't help. whether it's racial equality or police reform, i'm guessing this doesn't help. >> reporter: local business leaders want the police to do more, protect the rights of legitimate protesters but stop the vandals. laura anthony, abc 7 news. >> we wanted to know how oakland police did handling the large crowd of protesters and what they can do better in the future. one business owner on telegraph avenue told us he saw a guy with a sledge hammer breaking windows. he believes there was a lack of police response in the city. crowds blocked freeways for a second night in a row. the highway patrol helped things from getting further out of control. >> people have the right to assemble as long as it's done peacefully and lawfully. as long as everyone is being

peaceful, we can just be in a visible presence mode where we just are there to show our presence and to maintain the peace. once things get a little sideways, that's when we have to move in. >> stay here. you will hear that interview with the business owner coming up on abc 7 news at 6:00. local people can express their feelings about what's happened in missouri again tonight at a healing center set up in oakland. about 100 people have visited healing centers since monday evening and one of them remains open until 8:00 tonight. it's located near 26th street. community groups have worked with city officials to offer peaceful places for people to talk about their feelings. in downtown st. louis, a tense protest today at city hall. about 200 demonstrators marched through downtown and held a mock trial of officer darren wilson. police arrested three people accused of attempting to barge into city hall. more than 100 additional police officers were called in to the building and it was locked down. ferguson saw a second night of

vandalism, meantime, as protests were calmer than monday night with about 2200 national guard troops credited with helping to contain the damage. we are following the protests, the ferguson decision -- on the ferguson decision closely online and on the air. we will bring you any major developments during this newscast and at 6:00 and of course, on our twitter feed at abc 7 news bay area. now to news right here in san francisco. a man standing on the street corner playing with a yoe-yo is now in the hospital. a car jumped the curb and hit a pole just after 2:30 this morning. the car hit so hard it knocked down the traffic light and that hit the pedestrian. witnesses say it was a violent accident. >> the guy threw up in the air about three feet. the car was blazing. there was smoke everywhere. i opened the door and drug him out. i thought the car was going to catch on fire.

>> we saw smoke and i thought it was going to blow up. >> both the driver and pedestrian were taken to the hospital. the extent of their injuries is not known right now. san francisco police want to hear from anyone who can help them learn more about a shooting that sent six people to the hospital. two of those victims have life-threatening injuries after being shot at 13th and mission. it happened outside a rap concert about 12:45 this morning. no arrests have been made. police have not released the description of any people or vehicles involved in the shooting. a woman who worked at a bay area restaurant back in the '70s is the latest to come forward accusing comedian bill cosby of drugging and raping her. donna motsinger now lives in new mexico. abc 7 news reporter carolyn tyler spoke with her and joins us from the newsroom with the story. >> well, it's been more than 40 years and donna motsinger says she never saw bill cosby again after the alleged assault. she has moved away from the bay area and on with her life.

at 73, she is now a great grandmother and she told me she is only coming forward to support the other women who are speaking out. >> those women are not lying. and i'm not lying. it's the honest to god truth. >> reporter: this was donna motsinger back in the '70s when she met bill cosby. she was a single mom working as a waitress at the trident restaurant in sausalito then owned by the kingston trio, a mecca for stars. she says cosby asked her to see him perform. she says they drank in the limo on the way. then her story mirrors the accounts of other accusers. >> i didn't feel right. i felt really bad. i finally asked him could i please have an aspirin. the next thing i know, i'm in the limousine again with his hands on me. i wake up in my own bed the next morning, all my clothes off except for my underwear.

and i know i had been sexually assaulted. >> reporter: she says she was too ashamed to come forward then, though she did in 2005 as one of the 12 jane does willing to testify in the civil lawsuit filed against cosby by another woman. that case was settled out of court with no admission of guilt on cosby's part. earlier this month, associated press asked him for a response to the growing chorus of rape accusations. >> we don't answer that. >> reporter: cosby's attorney says the claims quote have escalated far past the point of absurdity. donna motsinger believes cosby is the one who should be discredited. >> stop maligning these women that you have already hurt once. stop trying to hurt them again. >> reporter: carolyn tyler, abc 7 news. san francisco police are searching for two thieves who drove into a high end store this morning and made off with very expensive merchandise. workers were busy this afternoon

patching up the damage at the chanel store near union square. the thieves crashed their vehicle through the store's back window on maiden lane. police say one of the thieves jumped out, grabbed six handbags worth thousands of dollars each. right now, people have little -- police, rather, have little information on the thieves. >> he or she, we don't know. the race or gender of that suspect. only that that suspect is wearing a knit cap, has a face mask covering his identity. >> police say the thieves drove away in a white vehicle. the store reopened later in the day after the damage was cleaned up. you can expect heavy traffic tonight as the evening commute combined with the thanksgiving getaway. take a live look at the commute leaving -- oh, boy. what a mess. bring your patience. san francisco to the bay bridge along the skyway and sky 7 hd shows us the slow and go traffic on interstate 880 in hayward. slow from fremont to oakland. taking a look at traffic

crawling through emeryville and berkeley along interstate 80, slow and also in walnut creek, traffic moving along interstate 680 in both directions pretty well. let's take a look at a map that provides us a real-time snapshot of how traffic is moving all around the bay area. that red means a lot of heavy traffic. flight days at sfo are not nearly as bad as you might expect given the rough weather in parts of the country. here's a live picture of the airport. a couple dozen delayed flights here, three cancellations. relatively small ripple effect from back east, where rain, sleet and snow are causing travel headaches. abc 7 news reporter david louie is live at sfo. really not too bad for air travelers here. >> reporter: it isn't too bad. surprisingly, especially when we thought there were going to be delays because of the east coast snowstorms. you know, it's interesting that this thanksgiving, it's going to cost $7.62 less to make a 300 mile trip over the weekend by car compared to a year ago. that's not exactly like winning

the lottery. however, it could cause some people to think about driving instead of flying. regular gas has dropped ten cents per gallon nationally in the past two weeks. so drivers are feeling a lot better about jumping behind the wheel for their holiday getaways. the oil cartel opec is meeting tomorrow but is not expected to have an impact on pump prices as tankers deliver it to stations. >> my daughter is in the marines in yuma. we were going to go visit her. we are considering to drive instead of fly. that way we will have our car available to use when we're there. >> reporter: the gas prices are a big help. >> absolutely. >> reporter: station owner rob baker says his regular gas is about $1 lower than a year ago. >> people are giving me $100 bills and getting change back. >> reporter: however, for some, air travel remains the only practical way to get to thanksgiving gatherings and back between now and monday. san francisco international is expecting to see 1.3 million passengers pass through its gates during the long weekend.

snow in the northeast and midwest had some passengers concerned their flights might be canceled. it's routine for the nation's air traffic control system to stop flights at their departure cities if landings are not possible at the destination. >> i'm a native new yorker. i know the area very well. i'm glad i'm going the opposite direction. i certainly feel for them. >> reporter: at midafternoon the departure status boards at sfo showed no cancellations even though the day started out with hundreds in some parts of the country. good news for these two heading for new york. >> probably checked about three times since i woke up this morning. >> reporter: were you nervous? >> yes, very nervous. mom would be very upset if we don't make it home. >> reporter: if you don't fly out tonight you won't make it in time for dinner. >> we don't have any cushion if our flight doesn't take off. >> reporter: david louie, abc 7 news. just ahead, face-off over airbags. the government's new warning and whether the recall should go nationwide. new headaches for people who

olive diamond, now a first grader, was diagnosed with t-cell lymphoma, a type of blood cancer. she was quickly pulled out of school to begin treatment. at the time, kara cooper was her kindergarten teacher at francis scott key elementary. >> it made me extremely nervous and worried about how we were going to continue her education, how i was going to keep her learning. >> reporter: during one of her visits to the family's home, cooper came up with an idea. >> they had face time on their computer. i had her working on an ipad at home and just at the table with her parents. we thought wait a minute, this is something we can do together. >> reporter: using two ipads, one at olive's home and the other in the classroom, the teacher was able to include olive in the daily lessons from the hospital or from home. her classmates knew exactly what to do. >> she moved around the classroom with us. people who sat in the back or sat next to the table just took the ipad and put it places so

she could see. >> reporter: her parents say olive never missed a day of instruction. >> she was almost fluidly reading certain level books by the end of kindergarten while she was getting aggressive chemo treatments weekly. >> reporter: the idea inspired other teachers to do the same. for example, another teacher at the same school was recently diagnosed with cancer. with the use of an ipad, she is now reading to her classroom every day from her home while undergoing chemotherapy. >> she will never forget how she stayed connected to her classmates and how this one teacher did everything she could to keep her connected. >> we never were able to fall. there was really dark days but we never were alone. >> reporter: olive is now a happy first grader with a passion for learning. are you happy in school? do you like learning? did you have a good time learning even though we couldn't go in the classroom last year? yeah. you did. >> reporter: in san francisco, lyanne melendez, abc 7 news. >> love that story.

three weeks after election in petaluma, they have finally reached a decision in the mayoral race. mayor david glass has been re-elected. he was initially losing to his opponent -- >> no worries. about the final count, glass defeated harris by 84 votes. this will be the third term for glass since 2003. moving on, some consumer news. a major crackdown on automobile airbags deemed unsafe. 7 on your side's michael finney is here with that story and more for us. >> i think this is amazing. i don't think very many of us consumer advocates are ready for this. today the national highway traffic safety administration said no more mr. nice guy to airbag manufacturer takada. u.s. safety regulators are threatening fines and legal action unless the company admits its driver's side airbag inflators are defective and agree to a nationwide recall. the safety administration gave the japanese company a deadline. they have until tuesday to file

paperwork declaring a defect and agreeing to expand the recall from high humidity states only to the entire country. the company's airbags have been blamed for at least five deaths and multiple injuries worldwide. they can inflate with too much force, blowing apart a canister and sending shrapnel into drivers and passengers. when your bicycle is stolen it is always a good idea to check craigslist. more than one bike thief has been caught that way. tonight, new advice about craigslist. if your dog goes missing, check craigslist, too. that's what joshua king did in virginia when his dog went missing. he says he met with a woman selling a dog, had called the police to be with him. the woman was charged and the dog is back with her owner. >> bewildered someone would actually think of doing something like this. >> the thief is now in jail.

never attempt to catch a thief on your own, always call police. we are used to making co-pays when going to the doctors but how about when you show up at the airport? beginning in february, united frequent flyer program is calling for some co-pays. mileage plus premier members getting an upgrade award on some of the airline's flights including some between jfk and sfo will be charged a miles -- mileage plus money. the co-pay will range between $75 and $250 each way. this is only one of several changes united frequent flyer miles should check the airline's website so you understand all the rule changes. >> they change all the time. >> oh, constantly. they just changed about a week or two ago. these guys. let's turn our attention to the holiday forecast. thanksgiving of course is tomorrow. meteorologist sandhya patel is here with the accuweather forecast outside a crisp and cool day but rain is coming

still, is that right? >> yeah, it is. we will need the rain gear for several days, dan, as we even head towards next week. this is great news that we are going to see a couple of storm systems move in here. three to be precise. right now, i want to show you live doppler 7 hd. we are tracking some high clouds but the high clouds have been pretty harmless and we are going to continue to see that as we head towards thanksgiving. here is where the stormy weather is. along the northeast coast there, we are seeing snow, rain, nor'easter continues to slam into this region. winter storm warnings are up. there were delays at some of the major hubs earlier. now the only one reporting delays is newark, new jersey. if you are heading there to visit family or friends for the holidays. you can see hazy conditions out there, air quality will continue to remain poor for tomorrow. another spare the air alert has been issued for santa clara valley. poor air quality, moderate elsewhere. a beautiful afterglow of the sunset from the east bay hills camera. you can see the high clouds.

temperatures low to mid 60s for san francisco, oakland, redwood city, san jose, currently 57 in half moon bay. our high temperatures today in the mid 60s to low 70s. just a beautiful day. here's a beautiful picture. temperatures in the low 60s from santa rosa to napa. 57, petaluma. if you need to run out to go buy some food to prep for tomorrow, don't worry. it's dry out there if you look from the golden gate bridge cam. sunny and mild for thanksgiving day. rain arrives friday night and we have a wet pattern going into next week. you take a look at the satellite picture, it's really high pressure holding on for one more day. perfect timing for thanksgiving. so no travel problems from the bay area to the state, if you are traveling tomorrow. then we will start to see a switch-up in the pattern. periods of rain into next week. you see three storms there and we will see unsettled conditions right on through the middle of next week. right now, 9:00 a.m., we will see cloud cover on friday and you will notice that the clouds will be around, they thicken.

by friday night, rain moves into the north bay. as we continue into saturday morning, wee hours, everyone is getting wet. it's just a light rain event for your saturday so we are not worried about this first system. the second and third ones could bring some pretty significant rain as we take a look here early estimates right on through wednesday of next week, three to five inches for the wettest spots in the north bay. we will be tracking that for you and it may be breezy at times. tomorrow morning, 40s, 50s, high clouds around, then for the afternoon, for thanksgiving, as you are feasting, mild outside, sunny, 72 in the south bay and the peninsula. 69 in redwood city. 65 in half moon bay. downtown san francisco, 66 degrees. you will be seeing occasional high clouds in the north bay. temperatures upper 60s, santa rosa, napa. in the east bay, 68 in oakland, 70 fremont. above normal, 71 livermore. a look at the accuweather seven day forecast, mild for

arranging contracts with i.t. service companies. they claim he ran a side company which funneled payments. netflix filed suit on monday accusing him of fraud and breaching fiduciary duties. twitter will start collecting datas on which apps their users have downloaded on their smartphones. users can opt out of it. the san francisco based company says it is only collecting the list of apps, not data within a list of those apps. twitter says it wants to learn more about its user base so it can make more money selling ads. meantime, san mateo based go pro is reportedly developing its own line of drones. according to the "wall street journal" the helicopters will have high definition cameras and sell for between $500 and $1,000. the faa is reportedly planning to require drone operators to have some kind of pilot's license. disney's "frozen" toys will

have plenty of competition. it was analyzed which item people were googling the most and found video games are most popular this season in california and a few other states. barbie is big in texas and tennessee. bikes, baseball and other sports gear are big everywhere. with christmas starting earlier each year, so are the toy drives. today a toy donation campaign kicked off with great fanfare. the union square restaurant usually collects toys for the firefighters toy program but this year, it also is collecting toys for glide memorial and they expect to give away 10,000 toys. >> it is very difficult to accumulate as many toys as we need. last year we had 8,000 toys and we ran out. so -- and the need appears to have grown each year. >> disadvantaged kids from city academy and the tenderloin were singing carols today. lefty o'doole's is also collecting toys for them.

a south bay charity has all the funding it needs now to buy turkeys to feed thousands of families in santa clara county. this morning a tech company presented sacred heart community service in san jose with a check for $40,000. officials at the kla say they learned about the need by watching the news and decided to help. sacred heart says it will use the money to buy about 5,000 turkeys. thank you for that. now to an annual thanksgiving tradition at the white house. president obama joked that it will be his most talked-about executive action this month. >> today i am taking an action fully within my legal authority, the same kind of action taken by democrats and republican presidents before me, to spare the lives of two turkeys, mac and cheese. >> those are the names. the birds will live out the rest of their lives at a farm in northern virginia. safe and sound. that will do it for us.
