>> this is abc7 news. >> time is 5:00. good morning and thanks for joining us on this saturday, november 29th. i'm chris. all right. we are seeing the rain out there already. let's check on the forecast with meteorologist lisa argen. lisa, nature is giving us a free car wash. >> this is just the beginning, chris. good morning. this is live doppler 7hd. you see most of the rain is concentrated from the peninsula to the south bay. you see the red and yellow here. steady plume of moisture moving in off of the pacific. you go to the east bay you see from milpitas south of pleasanton, 680, wet weather. down to cupertino some shower activity, and finally just north of morgan hill.

so you should be gettinget, morgan hill, in the next couple of minutes. but look what is to come. out of the west you see all of the wet weather. lighter showers up in the north bay and san francisco. we've just seen a couple hundredth. we are in the mid-and upper 50s right now. but as we go through the rest of the morning hours look for the breezy winds, the light shower activity. it's only saturday, we have rain through midweek and it will accumulate. i have the details coming up. >> thank you very much, lisa. you can see what is showing up on live doppler 7hd anytime with the abc7 weather app. it's free on google's app for. we have information online at abc7news.com/apps. we may not know until monday exactly how many people were arrested in protests in san francisco that turned violent last night. at least one officer was injured with a cut to the face when someone threw a bottle at his car. protest over the grand jury decision in ferguson, missouri turned dangerous at union

square. take a look at these images. sky 7hd showing you police lined up around macy's as some of the demonstrators tried to smash windows. they already attacked the front glass at crate and barrel and the group moved on marching along market street toward mission leaving behind more damage. in mission police kept protesters from advancing and officers were face-to-face with protesters. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard was with them through it all. >> several hundred protesters marched peacefully down market street demanding justice in the case of michael brown. >> this is an issue for all of us. if there's no justice to be had, then there's going to be no peace. >> many take issue with black friday saying this is not the time for holiday shopping. >> mike brown's family is going to have a horrible holiday season this year, and i feel

very sorry for them. >> but 20 minutes into the march things turned ugly. protesters took down the light post on stockton street as they headed toward union square. [whistle] >> but a line of police in right gear prevented the demonstrators from getting into union square. they show the scale and drama of the standoff. some protesters doubled back to powell street but police were there too. glass bottles were thrown at officers. this hotel manager was squared. >> you are thinking are they going to smash the windows to my show sell here, right? >> definitely. they are smashing them, i'm running. there's no way i'm staying here. my opinion is i get it, i get why they are protesting, it's just not the right way to do it. >> police were on the run again as protesters headed forward massing windows at macy's and crate and barrel furniture store. this city street cleaning truck was vandalized and all their

windows shattered. police blocked the street from moving past fifth street. several arrests were made. caught in the middle of it all, holiday shoppers like vanessa. >> i want to spend money in san francisco and i want to leave home. it's crazy, it's ridiculous. >> the shopping center closed early refuse to go let any more shoppers in after 7:30 p.m. as the protests continued outside. in san francisco, colonel bernard, abc7 news. >> here's just one example of the damage in the mission district. this picture is from beretta restaurant on valencia street. dine who are sent us this picture the group smashed the window as they walked by. nobody was hurt but people inside, as you might expect, were quite scared. many who came out to protest last night did keep their demonstration peaceful. this is video taken by one of them. protesters held up blue neon-lit leather spelling out "black lives matter" while chanting"

all lives matter" and chanting "hands up, don't shoot." [chanting] >> the day of protests actually began in oakland hours earlier when a small group caused big disruptions on bart. they chained themselves together, and to due different trains at the west oakland station. when they refuse today move, bart evacuated both trains and stranded people on both sides of the bay. >> a very big train. >> i believe the message but i think it should be done in another way. >> it took two hours for people to unchain and arrest the 14 protesters and get the trains moving again. meanwhile in ferguson, missouri, protesters clashed with authorities last night. officers in riot gear, along with the national guard, moved in to break up a crowd that refused to get out of a busy intersection. 15 people were arrested. it happened just across from the

ferguson police department, where demonstrators have gathered for days. 5:5 -- 5:05 the time. yesterday demonstrators rallied throughout 1600 wall street stores across the country, including milpitas, to protest low wages. they want company to pay the workers a minimum of $15 an hour and to give them consistent, full-time schedules. >> i'm here the day after thanksgiving, the day where we give thanks for all the things we have in our lives and i'm keenly aware many wal-mart workers can't afford the holiday dinner and are making the hard choicefs being at home with their families or having to work a few more extra hours to be able to afford those christmas presents coming up. wal-mart said it employs more people than any other retailer and pays a fair, competitive wage. today's protests get underway at 11:00 at wal-mart on edge water

drive in oakland. the chp is warning anybody who was at the big sideshow in oakland this week that they may soon face charges. they captured it as it was happening late friday night. drivers did doughnuts and dangerous stunts just a few feet away from spectators. the chp was already organized for protests so when they got the tip they rushed the port and blocked the road. several arrests were made that night and the chp said there will be more. chp said they plan to pursue charges for about 200 motorists and onlookers could face charges for aiding and abetting. >> we any who was driving what cars and we will use the video from the err cast and link that to put charges on at a later date. >> the chp impound bad a dozen vehicles involved in the sideshow, including a stolen car set on fire. the flames may have been fueled by firearms inside. here in the bay area,

shopping was less chaotic. still busy. shoppers got to alice and livermore before sunrise to get their black friday shopping started n hayward sky 7 shows shoppers at the mall circling the packed parking lot looking for spaces. others decided to forget about parking and reached for their phone. online sales were up more than 8% this black friday, and that half of those sales were made on mobile devices, the most of. so how did brick and mortor stores bring in shoppers yesterday? >> estimated 30,000 to 40,000 customers shopped at sun valley mall in concord. >> yesterday was clearly stronger than last year on thanksgiving day and today we don't have numbers yet but just from the crowds we've seen and the bags we see people carrying, it looks very strong. >> you know how they have every ads in the morning, come get the tvs, all that stuff is gone. >> the goal is to keep the

saturday morning. here's a live look at live doppler 7hd. you can see some activity in the green there. in the south bay right now as the storm moves over to san jose. we will keep you posted. lisa argen will have her full accuweather forecast in just a few minutes. contra costa county is expecting enough rain to be concerned about flooding. sandbags are available free of charge to residents at five locations, but you have to bring your own shovel. you can find out where to pick them up on our website, abc7news.com. two boys who were trapped in a snow pile in upstate new york for more than seven hours say they heard their friends and family calling for them but couldn't averages loudly enough. wednesday night a snowplow clearing a new york parking lot accidentally buried the boys alive. they survived thanks to an air pocket and a patrol officer canvassing the area.

priority was shopping for a christmas tree yesterday. abc7 news reporter david loui looks at the post thanksgiving christmas tree tradition in the bay area. >> seeing a parade of vehicles with trees tied to the roof is a post thanksgiving tradition in the santa cruz mountains. at black tree farms customers don't have to look for bargains. every tree is $50. only issue is finding the right one. >> do trees express any feelings as you cut them? [laughter] >> i sure hope not. >> but if they do, they will know that we've chosen it to be part of our family so hopefully it's a good feeling. >> five neighbors have made this trek an usually for over a decade, setting out leftovers for a tailgate parties. five families, five trees, and according to june, one goal. >> big and fluffy. that's all we look for. big and fluffy. >> that's a similar goal for shoppers looking at artificial trees. it's just as difficult findth right one given the range of species and options.

news. >> a lot of people will be getting the christmas tree this weekend. >> oh, boy. >> and later this morning, how is the weather shaping up? we have rain right any. >> later this morning would be a good time. the rain should be lightening up by then. the main activity will be within the next four hours or so. right now we have plenty of activity on the peninsula and south bay. we are looking at pretty good rain from mountain view to san jose. here's a look at live doppler 7hd. you can see the north bay is dry and the steady plume of moisture from hayward on south right over through livermore. here's a look at 280 right now where the rain is light. down through menlo park. as you get toward palo alto on woodacre we have light to moderate rain and we will take you westward and, in fact, heavier pockets here in the higher elevations. we are looking at concentrated rain there through the santa cruz mountains and highway 1, over into santa clara. although the rain is lighter

through san jose. but we have wet weather all throughout the south bay and we will look for this to continue throughout the morning hours and look westward. you can see all the moisture lined up and focusing from the peninsula through san jose and the santa clara valley, while the north bay not getting too much. but things will change through the overnight hours. tonight in the sierra nevada we have a rain-no mix right now. bear valley is look at some snow. lake tahoe has wanter weather advisory through about 10:00. we are looking at some snow around truckee. here's a look at san francisco where it is wet out there. 56 downtown. san jose 52. 49 in morgan hill. and from our exploratorium camera, certainly cloudy and damp out there from fairfield to concord with numbers in the 50s. emeryville this morning, wet roadways. more rain in the south bay. peninsula this morning. periods of rain today and tomorrow. getting more active overnight tonight. we will look for the wet weather pattern to continue through

wednesday. and rainfall amounts are really agreeing to add up. so definitely some good news. as the first system sits offshore, we are looking at the beginning of what's going to be a good four or five days of wet weather. main event is not forecasted to come in until tuesday. with that we will see some soaking rain all day long. so here's the timing throughout the day today. you notice it pushes on out through midday. 2:00 just some light, scattered showers around the bay. but then through the overnight hours, 11:00 tonight we are look at more heavy rain. overnight moderate rain. tomorrow you see the heavy rain up through cloverdale, marin county, and we will continue to see a little bit more on sunday. then a break on monday. so the breaks are key, as we are going to see several inches of rain with the next several systems. so winter weather advisory until 10:00. 4 to 8 inches of snow above 7,000 feet. 1 to 4 around lake level with gusty winds. as we look at the deficit, over an inch in oakland, over an inch

and three quarters in san francisco, this certainly is going to help. it's not going to be a drought buster, but it will help. here's a look what we are looking at through the middle of the week with rainfall amounts one to three inches. oakland, san jose, higher elevations three to five inches. so with the little breaks in between, it should help us throughout any flooding but with the low-lying areas you can see ponding on the roadways certainly through the next several days. 62 palo alto. accuweather seven-day forecast shows rain mainly in the morning today wet and windy. a break monday, heavier rain on tuesday and takes us through wednesday. you can get our abc7 news weather app and that will keep you up-to-date with the radar up to the minute. it takes, you know, you take it with you wherever you go and you know exactly where it's going to be wet and what is going on. good to have that and to stay updated. because the systems could slow down or speed up and you can always check on twitter a at live doppler 7hd for updates.

really concentrated on the peninsula into the south bay from davenport to the santa clara valley. 680, 880, wet weather. you see moderate rain here through cupertino and sunnyvale. campbell looking at moderate rain. it's been raining the past hour or so. through morgan hill it's more lightly scattered and taking you back out toward the coast and the pacific. you can see more is on the way. temperatures with the cloud cover and the southerly fetch are on the mild side except for morgan hill. upper 50s to upper 40s. and if you go through the rest of the morning you will notice that the concentration will be here in the south bay, pushing into the santa cruz mountains, monterey. elsewhere we will see lighter activity but more is to come. in fact, much more. we will talk about how much and when coming up. chris. all right, lisa, thanks. developing news. an egyptian court has dismissed criminal charges against former

president hosni mubarak in connection with 239 protests and the 2011 uprising that end his nearly three-decade rain. he was also acquitted of corruption state. the judge sighted the inability. case through to a technicality. he was convicted and sentenced to life in prison in 2012 but the verdict overturned on appeal. the dismiss alf charges sparked anger many, particularly family members killed in the 2011 protests. mubarak is serving a separate three-year sentence for embezzlement of public funds. >> 5:33 the time. happening to the a memorial service for a surgeon who died of ebola after treating patience in west africa. the doctor died at the university of nebraska medical center in omaha. his body was cremated. he didn't receive treatment until nearly two weeks after he

developed symptoms, and experts say that delay likely made it impossible to save his life. he was a permanent u.s. resident but previously lived in sierra leone. it looked like state senator mark leno will not run for san francisco mayor against incumbent ed lee next year according to "the san francisco chronicle." leno decided now is not the time to run, despite being approached by residents upset by the direction of the city under lee. in particular, residents have voiced their concerns about rising rents and the influx of tech companies. a poll released back in april indicating that leno could have beat lee in a match-up for the mayor's seat. also happening today, a youth double urine tournament will honor a bart police officer killed in the line of duty. the all saints catholic youth organization will dedicate their tournament to bart police sergeant tommy smith, who was accidentally killed in january by a fellow officer while they were searching an apartment.

weather pattern continue right on through wednesday with the heaviest event, really the last system to move on in, on tuesday. here's a look at the pacific satellite picture with a front offshore and a little piece of energy pushing through the south bay right now. that's what is initiating all of that rain. a little bit of a breakthrough monday. on and off showers tomorrow. then here's what comes in by tuesday and continues into wednesday. that's going to bring steady rain and in the area of several inches. let's go through the rest of the day. right now you will see the wet weather to the south. a bit of a break with some light showers throughout the rest of the day. then look what happens by the 11:00 hour. we've got light to moderate rain over the heart of the bay. plenty more to come through the overnight. 2:00 in the morning everybody is wet. tomorrow morning, if you are thinking about a morning bike ride or a jog, have the rain gear. dodge the rain for sure. and we will see more scattered showers throughout the afternoon on sunday. in the mountains we talked
