. is second of a series of storms moving in. it could bring a lot of rain to the bay area and snow to the sierras, which is great news for skiers. good evening, i'm tich me wilson. this is a live look outside right now. you are looking at live pictures from the golden gate bridge, and from richmond where the rain is already coming down. drew actuala begins our coverage with a first check on the weather. >> after a brief break in the rain this evening, it's picking up in intensity. we will show you we have a storm moving in. and some of these showers right now are locally heavy.

on the air. we've been on rain patrol all evening of we have found some scattered showers up and down the peninsula. but what we have really found are lots of people hope forth the rain and more of it. some light rains from enough for people to pull out the umbrellas in milbrae. same for san mateo. down the peninsula in redwood city people were also prepared. they pulled out their umbrellas and rain coats. the showers were a welcome sight. what about the umbrella. >> i was lucky to have it. i'm glad it's finally raining. >> reporter: even those who were hurrying to doiptd can cert wanted to talk about approximate rain and how much it's desperately needed. >> we planned. we knew it was going to rain. we were hoping it wouldn't rain on thanksgiving. but we wanted to be raining for the rest of the week. >> reporter: earlier, it was mostly spotty and wasn't nearly as much as some were hoping for. the umbrellas are out.

>> well, this is a little worse than summer fog in san francisco. it really is. it's still pretty pleasant right now. there is no wind. >> reporter: if oakland the answered rainstorms were enough to prompt some to be ready with sandbags. >> since it's been so dry there is a place under our house that often leaks underneath the house so we wanted to be able to block it off. >> reporter: they were able to load up with plenty of bags from the open municipal services center on edgewood drive. far too dry for far too long. nearly everyone we talked to tonight was happy to see what sprinkles they did see while they were out and about. and of course they were hoping for more downpours overnight. >> great news for skiers. more snow could be headed to tahoe. north star cavalry sort sent us this video, showing skiers

was merely an unfortunate night. >> continue top reopened in time for a planned friday yesterday. san francisco police are trying to find a group of young women accused in an evening robbery spree. it began after 7:00 on the in union square. witnesses say six women who appeared to be in their 20s stole close from the victoria's secret and forever 21 stores. the 911 caller described them as rainbow girls because they were wearing bright colored clothing. a $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrested in the murder of a teacher in oakland. david rums felled was out hiking tuesday afternoon when police say two men robbed him then shot him at close range. he taught at the atheenian school in danville. police are looking for two males seen on the trail just before

held earlier tonight on fillmore street. this is part of the nationwide effort to get people to shop at independent locally owned stores on the days after thanksgiving and throughout the holiday season. >> when you shop at small business, so much more the money goes back into the local community. it contributes to the elementary schools and middle schools. we want to make sure that people are giving back to those people to support. >> up and down fillmore took part. people who attended received passports which after visiting different stores could be redeemed for free stuff. president barack obama also participated in small business saturday browsing the racks at an independent bookstore in washington, d.c. with malia and sasha. the president then bought two bags of books. big sales on black friday aren't pulling in customers like they used to. americans spent $9.1 billion at

in san francisco. with the return of the gingerbread house at the fairmont. the culinary creation is an engineering marvel at 22 feet high. and 22 feet deep. it features nearly 8,000 pieces of gingerbread using 1500 pounds of royal icing. chefs spent 375 hours creating the parts and another 520 hours putting them together. looks delicious but i think samples are off limits. and drew, that is not the type of house you want tonight with all the rain coming down. >> certainly not. tomorrow tomorrow you're going to want to find activities indoors because the rain with us tonight will continue throughout much of our sunday plans, as well. live doppler 7 hd, a very active scene this evening. we're going to press into a locally heavier pocket of rain right now in the north bay. you notice around 5 0, 101, san rafael and richmond, this is where the heaviest showers are right now.

the nor bay will see the heaviest of the rain this weekend. this pocket of showers moving to the north and east right now. in about seven minutes right around hercules. and about 24 minutes from now, american canyon will see the downpours working into your neighborhood. so we'll be in and out of the heavier rain off and on throughout the evening and overnight period. current temperatures out there right now it's pretty uniform thanks to rain and cloud cover. upper 50s. 59 in san francisco. 48 currently in oakland. 5 in mountain view and san jose right now coming in at 55 degrees. satellite and radar. the next round of rain overnight tonight. we go, the heaviest of the rain moving through right now, specifically in san francisco and into the north bay. that moves out early sunday morning by 6:00 a.m. the pattern quiets down. generally a dry atmosphere over

us short lived. by 11:00 a.m. sunday morning, heavier pockets of rain especially around san jose begin to work their way north. sunday afternoon, you notice we'll be in and out of the downpours for much of the second half of the weekend. work and school on monday, there will be another lull in the activity. by 7:00 a.m. monday morning, generally dry skies. perhaps a few peeks of sunshine. drizzle in the higher elevations in the north bay. our second round of rain coming tuesday morning. tuesday morning's rain could be very heavy at times and make for a slow go in the morning rush. and also into the evening, as well. how much rain are we talking about over the weekend? generally with this round of rain through sunday night, anywhere from say a quarter inch of rain to.75 inch of beneficial rain here in the bay area. lows generally low 50s. temperatures not falling from far from where they are right now. scattered showers through 2:00 a.m. sunday, showers starting in the south bay and working their way north and with limited sunshine.

we'll not see temperatures rise far above the lower 60s. we're also going to see an increase in winds on sunday. wind gusts especially along the gust from 24 miles per hour to 25 miles per hour at half moon bay. take note of that if you live along the water. the forecast shows you downpours for your sunday. a brief break on monday and a warm breeze getting us into the 70s inland. by tuesday, we're seeing downpours return and the wind picks up again lasting into wednesday morning. overnight tonight, san francisco and the north bay gets the rain. tomorrow everybody sees it through the afternoon. >> everybody needs it. thank you. it was a big rivalry weekend for sports. >> no question. college football the cal bears needed to win to become bowl eligible at home. four td passing day. but not the result

live from the kgotv broadcast center. this is abc7 news. good evening. i'm tiffany wilson. in tonight's headlines, expect to wake up in the morning to wet and soggy grass. light rain fell tonight in millbrae and around the bay area. rain and know in the eera are expected to pick up overnight. this is a look at live doppler 7 hd. lots of rain across the bay area. drew tomb ma will be back with the forecast in a few minutes. police in san francisco are looking for six women accused of stealing clothes from the forever 21 and victoria's secret stores in union scare couldn't. they're suspected of being part of the so-called rainbow girls gang who are accused in similar series of robberies last year. and a calm night in union square

after a flight of destruction. crews spent the day cleaning up damage from last night's protests against the decision in ferguson, missouri. doors and windows were smashed and stores looted. police are expected to release more details on damage and arrests on monday. new details tonight. police officers darren wilson has resigned following a grand jury's decision not to indict him. he has been on administrative leave ever since he shot and killed michael brown in august. last week a grand jury decided not to indict wilson. reporter michele franzen has the latest. >> four months ago, officer darren wilson was thrust into the national spotlight when he fatally shot michael brown an unarmed teenager in ferguson, missouri. the killing ignited riots and for several months the nation remained on edge while waiting for a grand jury decision whether or not to hand up an indictment against the police officer. >> no probable cause exists to file any charge against officer wilson.

>> that decision unleashed more protests in missouri and around the country this thanksgiving week. wilson had been on administrative leave since the august shooting. since then the ferguson police department received threats of violence if he wered on the force prompting wilson to say this in his statement. i have been told my continued employment may put the residents and police officers of the city of ferguson at risk. adding this, it is my hope that my resignation will allow the community to heal. but in an exclusive interview with george stephanopoulos a few days ago, wilson defended his actions saying that he had a clean conscience and would not do anything differently. >> i just did my job. i followed my training. >> brown's mother called wilson's explanation of the shooting insulting and disrespectful. now it remains to be seen if wilson's resignation helps calm protests like this one in st.

louis saturday or ace tension in the community and throughout the nation. michele franzen, abc news, new york. >> a peaceful march began today in ferguson to protest the grand jury's decision. this group started the lodge walk where mike brown died and ends at the missouri state capitol in jefferson city. they'll finish in about nine days. this is the hug shared around the world. a 12-year-old black boy hugging a white police officer at a ferguson protest in portland, oregon. the boy devante hart was crying holding up a sign offering free lugs. the officer asked why he was crying. he said he was concerned about the level of police brutality towards young black kids. the officer said yes, i know. i'm sorry. and then asked for a hug. young devante is no stranger to kindness. he celebrated his 11th and 12th birthdays by raising money for charity. this picture was shared on facebook more than 150,000 times

in just a few hours. more charges could be filed against a father accused of holding his 13-year-old son captive in georgia. the four-year ordeal came to an end with a reunion this morning. the boy holding tight to his mother. she found him only after he was somehow able to send her a text message. he had been living behind a fake wall inside the home. the father and four others are charged with false imprisonment and cruelty to children. >> we need to know all of the questions, the who, what, when, where and why. so to find out exactly what happened is going to be the job of our detectives now. >> the boy will be in protective custody till monday at the earliest to make sure he's safe. a mexican comedic icon passed away. he died yesterday at his home in cancun. he starred on in ex-can television for more than 40 years.
