steady. it has been a heavy and steady rain for an hour. it is still coming down on north main secret. we are not experiencing any wind. that could be a lucky break. there are concerns about trees handling the rain. especially since this is the beginning. we have a few days to go. it has been so dry. there is concern that the trees will not be able to handle all of what will be lone at them. they have concerns about low-lying flooding and that will be temporary. they are saying because we have been in a drought so long he do not expect long-term big remembers but some low-lying urban flooding which will be temporary. they suggest it could be too late, but if you get a break in the storm and you are concerned, go ahead and get sandbags going, also, clear out the gutters. we have seen a lot of leaves falling the past if you weeks and get the gutters cleared so

and union city and fret and on the dumbarton or san mateo bridge, watch out for heavy rain. to the south through the coast we are looking at the moderate and heavy rain creating problems, 5" of rain through the santa cruz mountains. later rain on the east side of san jose and gilroy is looking at light rain. we will look for the totals to pickup in intensity and we have had three quarters of an inch of rain since yesterday. the winds kick in by noon and by the evening commute it doesn't look so heavy and then it will pick up through the overnight hours from 2-3' in the higher elevations of the sierra nevada with a low pulling in the subtropical moisture down the coast and we have the possibility of wind damage, urban flooding, power outages and the thunderstorms with 1-2"

from san francisco to the north bay. at noon, still heavy rain in the north bay 4:00 should be breaking up a little bit 8:00, scattered showers through the 9:00 or 10:00 hour and look at this, the north bay is hit very hard overnight and the santa cruz mountains and five o'clock this time tomorrow, still, rain showers. it does not break up until later tomorrow afternoon. then we have three, four, five inches. a possibility of a thunderstorm today, tomorrow, and more widely scattered showers on thursday and friday. we start off with a sig-alert, two-car crash in hayward northbound side of 880 as you come up to ace street with one lane blocked and two were blocked earlier and they are starting they clear things away and you can see the area of yellow is heavy rainfall and it and an indication through san leandro and through hayward so the drive along 238 and meeting

force their way into the smart and final store and leave with stolen liquor. they appeared in court. all have criminal records. would have felony convictions. today, the san jose city council could approve an ordinance banning bicyclists from sidewalks. this is a touchy situation for the city because san jose has been encouraging residents to ride their bicycles more often but some agrossive bicyclists have been hitting pedestrians. the ordinance firsts bikers off the sidewalks and on to the streets to share the road with cars which is why the bicyclists went open to the sidewalks in the first place. happening today a last ditch of the to save a troubled east bay hospital. the board of supervisors in contra costa county will vote on two measures to relieve the financial pressure on doctors medical center in san pablo. one delay as $3 million prosecute tax payment owed by the hospital to the county. the other would permanently waive $9 million in future payments. the meeting is scheduled for

can get the showboater out there, but as people try to enter the 101 to 101 northbound or southbound or the entrance to 580 east headed back to the san rafael bridge, we have noticed people have navigateed the corners with caution because of the rain and because of the flash flooding and because of the standing water and some of areas like you see right here at the intersection. again, we cannot stress it enough, navigate the corners and use caution because the rain has not stopped. it is slippery even for us as we try to manufacture gate the north bay to try and find the trouble spots to issue the warn ing. thank you. we are seeing that scene over and over and over again in the bay area. >> we are, indeed. >> we wanted the rain and boy did we have it it will last through tomorrow. look at the half rain.

the past three hours nit-picked up over half an inch of rain and the only area not picking up the moderate rain is in the bay and parts of the peninsula and the far south bay. in the east bay from oakland to orinda and lafayette you have heavy rain. to the south, i will call it moderate rain from hayward to union city and newark, it is very slick. here is the peninsula, mountain view, palo alto, moderate-to-heavy rain. look what is offshore to the south: another halfible of rain -- half inch of rain pushing into the rain. pore heavy rain for you. temperatures are in the 50's. we do have fog the rest of the day. we will add wind and a thunderstorm and the afternoon commute looks better than the morning and heavy rain tenths and that will take us and tonight which brings another chance of a thunderstorm and still scattered showers through

friday. in the last few minutes since starting our show at 5:30 we now have 30 accidents on our bay area freeways. here is the bay bridge toll plaza with flooding and that is causing the accidents, very heavy flooding in some areas, north bays for instance, northbound 101 approaching 580 we have heavy flooding there a car neely stopped in the water and crashed. we have heavy conditions as you make it into san francisco but this sig-alert has no word but further to the south of hayward northbound nimitz at a street we have one lane blocked and delays away from highway 84. eastbound 80 through pinole valley road we have a crash involve solo spinout. we have plenty solo spinouts. stay in the middle of the road to keep it safe. a big financial break can be
