and a week's more to come. breaking news. rarnlg protests paralyze parts of oakland tonight shutting down interstate 80 and forcing the closure of the west oakland bart station. both are back open. this is a live look from sky 7hd. >> you can still see protesters in the streets. they are all marching over a grand jury's decision not to indict a white new york city police officer in the apparent chokehold death of an african-american man and other cases of alleged police brutality including the deaths of michael brown and oscar grant. >> vandals smashed windows at the clorox building and a hundred protestor rains on to 880 and blocked the north and southbound sides for more than half an hour tonight. i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm ama dates. we will have more, but first, the weather. >> yes, seven straight days of rain and there is more on the way. now a live look from our exploratorium camera. we are seeing more showers and there are more on the

horizon. >> sand yaw patel is -- sand yaw patel is here. >> we have one storm after another and we get the rain. let me show you live doppler 7hd and i will show you where we are seeing wet weather. it is right across the north bay. our radar is tracking showers from santa rosa to petaluma. these are pretty light. as i take you down the road, they are getting some pretty good returns. out toward the marin county area as we close in a little bit, mill valley is getting dumped on and taking you down to street level as well, camino alto and marion avenue and larkspur seeing some lighter united states are. the same story for the south bay right now. as you look at the rain totals here, these are the last 24 hours with this storm. . an 3 and ben lohmand over an inch. a 10th in hayward and san francisco, 200 san jose and livermore trace.

there is your current storm. there is a storm on sunday. and there is a storm coming in next week. we'll talk intensity and we will talk about what part of your weekend is actually going to be dry coming up. dan? >> sand yaw -- sand yaw, thanks very much. we need every drop of this rain and then some. when it rain, it pours. street flooding and dangerous driving and frustrating flying, all kinds of delays and cancellations at sfo today. sergio is live at mineta san jose international airport. sergio, delays there as well. >> well, as we said there were spotty areas, but it does not mean there was not an issue. it caused a delay at san jose international. weather caused a few flight delays at san jose international, but at sfo, the weather raked up 110 canceled flights for the day. the combination of low clouds, winds and spotty rain meant flights from boston to los

angeles and plenty of cities in between were scrubbed or delayed. >> i'm flying to l.a. >> what happened to your flight? >> it is canceled. >> reporter: eric is trying to get to los angeles. >> pretty much three hours delay almost all of the flights i have seen. three to four hours. >> and he even double booked flights to try and get back home for an important date. >> i booked a second flight to come over here to see if i can can sell the first one. it is a business flight. i just need to get back home. i had an event to go to tonight, but that is not going to happen. >> the weather triggered a ground stop at sfo. it is the second day in a row that air traffic was temporarily halted. across the bay near concord, a light steady rain and windy conditions made for potentially slick driving situations and near santana row steady rains fell for a couple of hours. it is part of the off again-on again pattern we have seen throughout the week of the in san jose, abc7 news. in san francisco, businesses swamped by

floodwater and sewage were still cleaning up from the last storm as tonight's rain moved in. water and sewage came up from under buildings along folsom street on wednesday causing major damage and even rising high enough to get into clothes dryers. piles of ruined items line the streets where residents hope tonight's weather won't make things worse. >> we'll keep you up-to-date on our broadcast, and you can live live doppler 7hd to track the rain where you live anytime with the abc7 news weather app. it is free at the apple app store or google play. and now to the latest on another evening of protests in oakland. the anger in the streets stems from a white new york city police officer not being indicted for the uh pearnt chokehold death of a black suspect. sky 7hd shows us a live look at protesters moving through the streets. right now they are at telegraph and 27th. abc news' allan wong joins

us. >> a small band of demonstrators broke through some windows. police have been chasing them in the pouring rain through downtown oakland. the police have been trying to say one step ahead of the demonstration, but it hasn't been easy. the protesters flanked the police lines before 9:00 and climbed on to interstate 880. some of the first protesters almost got struck by on coming cars. they closed both north and southbound lanes for about 20 minutes. from there it was on to the west oakland bart station. the police dropped the gates and partially shut it down, but several protesters got under the gate before police managed to chase them back out. during the march a couple of windows were smashed out at the clorox building at broadway and 12th. two groups started this out at 7:00. one gathered at the christmas tree lighting ceremony at jack done done square and marched

up the broadway and the other mashed down and they shutdown telegraph and west grand. at that point they were 500 strong with the intention of causing havoc. and it looks like that's what they have done. abc7 news. >> allen, thanks very much. the police have been trying to stay one step ahead of the demonstration, but they have not been easy. the protesters out flank the police lines before 9:00 and they climbed on to interstate 80. some of the first protesters who caused problems were quickly removed from the highway. now, the vandals broke more windows a short time ago. they targeted the downtown wine merchants at broadway and 14th street. that's near city hall. the owner's hand was cut trying to protect his store. >> the protest began earlier this week after a grand jury in new york decided not to charge a what police officer in the chokehold death of an unarmed black man. california police are not allowed actually to use

chokeholds, but certain departments including san francisco and oaknd la do allow officers to subdue a suspect by a carotid restraint as it is called which is unlike a chokehold that cuts off the windpipe. it squeezes the arteries on the side of the neck to restrict blood supply to the brain. >> it is viewed as lethal force. it is one of the highest levels of force in the department. >> police officers say applying the caw -- carotid restraint is difficult and so some departments don't allow the use of either. a 3.9 quake rattled the south bay. it struck after 6:00 and was centered near hollister. no reports of injuries or damage, but it was widely felt. here is the usgs shake mab and it shows where people reported feeling the quake, salinas and santa cruz and even hayward

felt the earthquake. a construction worker is in serious condition after falling off a roof. it happened in san mateo. police say it happened while he was working at a home on east 39th avenue. the man fell off the roof and landed in the backyard about 3:15 this afternoon. he was taken immediately to stanford medical center. police are investigating this incident as an occupational accident. >> san francisco's police chief says two officers convicted on multiple charges by a federal grand jury should be fired. they were convicted today of stealing money, drugs and other items from the suspects in the criminal cases. both men face up to 20 years in federal prison. one officer's uh attorney says the client's service to the city should be considered at his sentencing. >> he has been shot at and people try to run him over. he has been stabbed and he has been a her low wick combatant

police have opened an investigation into accusations that bill cosby molested a woman when she was 15 years old. investigators met with her for an hour and a half today. she claims it happened at the playboy mansion in 1974. also in l.a., crews spent part

of the day repairing bill cosby's star on the hollywood walk of fame after someone scrawled the word rapist in three different places. more than 15 women now claim cosby assaulted them. the holiday season is a difficult time for women living in emergency shelters. but one south bay woman is making it her mission to bring smiles to some of their faces. abc7 news reporter explains. >> a dining room transformed into a makeshift assembly line. and for marking executive sharon wong, a trip back home to her native canada was the inspiration behind it all. >> i saw what a big impact a simple project like this had. >> wong is behind the shoe box project and it started in canada in 2011, but it launched in the bay area last month they are asking for small gifts, everything from new scarfs to socks and

perfume and shampoo all packed in a shoe box. >> what has been so rewarding is seeing how generous people are. they have taken the time out to make one shoe box or three. >> donations are then given to the survivors living in nearby shelters. the shelter in santa clara county is one of them. we spoke to a legal advocate and a domestic violence survivor herself. she said the shoe boxes can brighten someone's day. >> we feel more confident being stronger and being more independent and we can make it. >> local businesses are also getting into the spirit of the season. keen garage in palo alto is somewhere they can go to drop off the box. >> and a small thing for us is a huge thing for them. it was a no brainer for us to get involved.

san anselmo and the lucas valley area. keep the umbrellas around as you head out tomorrow morning. we have more showers developing off the coastline and heading toward the bay area. in the sierra nevada we have been seeing snow at the highest elevations. truckee and tahoe, just rain. this is a warm system so maybe a couple of inches above 8,000 feet. here is what it looks like right now. 50s and 60s is pretty mild and definitely on the gray side. showers through tomorrow morning . a brief break and two more storms. this is a good thing. it is a two parter, the cold front and the trough. the cold front comes in and we get showers. briefly you will see some downpours like we have been today. 11:00 p.m. tonight we do have light to moderate rain. the poke wets -- the pockets

are 1:00 a.m. you may hear the pitter patter. as we head toward tomorrow morning 7:00 if you have plans or your kids have games or maybe a few showers around, the ground will certainly be wet, and then the showers taper early on saturday. the rest of your afternoon is dry. it is a good time to put up your lights or do holiday shopping. the dry pattern does not continue for long. the second storm comes in and that one is week. that one is weak. the north bay starts to see some rain. as we head toward the 8:00 p.m. hour, around the entire bay area it is lightly rainfall and then into your monday morning commute. a few showers linger. it is all long gone and then we will basically see rain tapering as we head toward tuesday it is dry. rain totals are up to an inch in the mountains and a 10th to half an inch for most elevations. that's the first storm up to 1:00 p.m. on saturday. tomorrow morning temperatures in the 50s. you will need an umbrella in case you run into a few of the

showers. tomorrow afternoon we are looking at temperatures mainly in the 60s 60s and partly cloudy. as we look at the game time forecast when the niners battle the raiders at o-dot-co coliseum it will be in the mid60s. you don't have to worry about your rain gear. don't bury the rain gear because we do have more rain coming. sunday evening to monday morning , not a big storm. on tuesday is your only dry day the next seven days and it gets stormy on wednesday night and going into thursday with heavy rain and strong winds and a chance of thunder on thursday. friday is still wet. and it is cooler. the best news i can tell you, dan and ama, that's a colder storm. significant rain. heavy snow in the sierra. >> skiers will love that. you know the ducks really love the water. >> and they showed it tonight. larry beale with sports. >> they frolicked. in particular marcus mariota making his case for the making his case for the heisman as oregon rolls in the

the pac-12 championship game at levi stadium turned into the marcus mariota show. the oregon quarterback is cementing his hold on the heisman trophy. they overwhelmed arizona. the wild cats beat oregon in eugene. this was a sloppy game early on tonight and then mariota dashes in and touchdown 13-0 ducks. the defense smother the wild cats. backside pressure and brings him down. arizona had 25 yards offense in the firs half. oregon racks up 640 yards total. nobody open. mariota again. 20-0 ducks. it was 30-0 before he finally scores on a busted play.
