>> time now is 5:00. glad to have you with us. i'm chris nguyen. let's start off with a quick look at the weather. lisa argen is tracking live doppler hd for us. lisa, the rain still in parts of the bay area. >> yeah, it's certainly soggy to start your saturday. good morning. the front has cleared the north bay. you notice the showers in the south bay, the santa cruz mountains. in fact, this is where they will linger for the next several hours. you can see davenport, santa cruz, scotts valley, boulder creek but on the other side, san jose, just a couple hundredth in the last few hours. we have a slick ride around milpitas through fremont over

toward here and discovery bay looking at some wet weather, as well as 580 toward livermore, fairfield a few areas of some mist and drizzle, some light showers and back through berkeley and el~cerrito. it is dry in san rafael and san francisco. a shower passed through about 3:00 this morning. 7:00, notice the showers still hung up in the south bay, but through the 8:00 hour, barely anything left and more sunshine through the afternoon. mostly try through the weekend but a bigger storm system on the way next week. >> we need the rain, but all the rain at once has caused some problem. check out the weather and how it brought down a large tree over powerlines overnight in marin county. the wet weather is being blamed for flooding, dangerous driving and flight delays. we have more for the airport.

>> weather caused a fewing flight delays at san jose international, but at sfo the weather racked up 110 cancelled flights for the bay. the combination of low clouds, wind, and spotty rain meant flights from los angeles and other flights were scrubbed delayed. >> i'm flying to l.a. >> what happened to your flight? >> it's cancelled. >> eric is also trying to get to los angeles. >> pretty much three hours delay. almost all the flights i have seen, three to four hours. >> he even double booked flights to tritry to get back home for a important date. >> i booked a second to see if they canceled the first one and it's a business flight. i just need to get back home. had an event to go to tonight, but i guess it's not going to happen. >> the weather triggered a ground stop at sfo for a while. the second day in a row air traffic as temporarily halted. across the bay if concord, light, steady rain and windy conditions made for potentially

slick driving conditions and san jose near san tana road steady rains fell for a couple of hours. part of the off again and on-again pattern we've seen throughout the week. abc7 news. in san francisco, businesses swamped by floodwater and sewage were still cleaning up from the last storm as last night's rain moved in. water and sewage came up from underneath buildings along folsom street on wednesday causing major damage. even rising high enough to get into clothes dryers. piles of ruined items line the streets where residents hope the latest rainfall won't make things worse. you can use live doppler 7hd to track things where you live with the new weather app. it's free online at the apple app store or google play >> at least one person was arrested following another night of protests in oakland: the anger in the streets stems from a white new york city police officer not being indicted for

the apparent choke hold death of a black suspect. at one point the protesters made it on to interstate 880, forcing the clearsers of both the north and southbound lane for about 20 minutes. from there it was on to the oakland bart station. the police dropped the gates and partially shut it down but several got under the gate before police managed to chase them back out. during the march a couple of win goes were smashed out at the clorox building on broadway and 12th. they also disrupted the christmas tree lying ceremony in jack london square. at one point a group of about 500 shut down the intersection of telegraph and west grant. and vandals broke more windows and targeted the downtown wine merchants near city hall. the owner's hand was cut trying to protect his store. activists will hold a protest today, calling for the end of what they call police

murders based on race. honoring eric garner, michael brown, alex nietto and mr. rice, today's rally gets underway at 1:00 p.m. at 16th and mission. there will also be a march in berkeley calling to the end of a protest called state's violence. many protesters are upset by the nypd's apparent use after choke hold on eric garner. they aren't allowed to california but some police officers are allowed to use another restraint to subdue suspects. tiffany wilson has more on the difference between the new maneuvers. >> going the oakland and san francisco police department allow officers to use

restraints. this man considers any moving involving any move someone's neck highly skilled and involving careful supervision. >> it can put somebody out in a couple seconds. >> a choke hold involves pressure against someone's windpipe. >> i can move downward and it will come with you downward >> and squeezing the area triose on the side of the neck to restrict blood supply to the brain. in under a second i could feel the effect. >> now you can feel it -- >> oh! whew! >> he said a choke hold is much worse. >> you feel the touching against the windpipe area, it's really uncomfortable. >> in april he captured this video of an officer taking down a fan at the giants home opener. >> that could have knocked the kid flat out. >> in light of what was happening in new york, the video is resurfacing. he said we do not use the choke

hold restraint, we use the carodid restraint. by con of draft, video of eric garner's arrest appears to show the officer's arm across eric garner's neck, consistent with a choke hold. both moves can be dangerous. >> one can completely go into another one in no time. >> he showed us several techniques how to get out of both holds but his best advice is to de-escalate the situation so it never gets to that point. in oakland, tiffany wilson, abc7 news. >> and police in san jose are investigating after a man was hot to death last night t happened around 8:00 on anen rock avenue near a strip mall. the man was pronounced dead at the scene e has not been identified and at this point there have been no arrest police in bell looking for a man who robbed a bank and carjacked a

woman while disguised as a woman. it happened at the credit union on el camino. after the robbery the suspect carjacked a minivan from a woman on notre dame avenue. the woman was not hurt. he's described as a black man between 17 and 20 years old, six feet tall with a tattoo on his arm. the carjack is described as a honda odyssey with it license plate. a magnitude 3.2 quake struck near hollister last night. no reports of injury or damage but it was widely felt. people reported feeling the quake in salinas, santa cruz and even as far north as hayward. time now is 5:08. this morning a construction worker is in serious condition after falling off a roof in san mateo. police say it happened while he was working on a home on east 39th avenue. officers say the man fell off the roof and landed in the backyard at around 3:15

yesterday afternoon. he was taken to stanford medical center were police say they are investigating the incident as an occupational accident. san francisco's police chief says two officers convicted on multiple charges by a federal grand jury should be fired. sergeants seen in this video were convicted yesterday of stealing money, drugs and other items from suspects in criminal cases. both men face you have to 20 years in federal prison. one officer's attorney said his klein's service to the city should be considered at his sentencing. >> he's been shot at, people have tried to run him over. he has been stabbed. he has been a heroic combatant to the citizens of san francisco, and i'm just sorry that it has come to this. >> but police chief greg surr said their crimes have

outweighed their service. >> they have not only betrayed the public trust but the trust of the proud men and women of this department who work so hard every day to keep this city safe. >> the chief wants both men to be fired and stripped of their pensions. they will be sentenced in february. a judge has put an toned a long fight with a silicon valley billionaire who has blocked access to a popular half moon bay beach. yesterday the san mateo county superior court ordered the man to immediately open the gate blocking the road lead to go martin's beach. he closed acutes to the beach after purchasing the property back in 2011. the court found the effort to block public access in violation of the california coastal act. time now is 5:10. we are tracking wet weather out there. >> huge waves this week, too, for surfers. watch out. they have been huge with all the storms. right now we are looking at some mist and drizzle in san francisco. 57 our roof camera so the rain just about ending in the north bay.

heavier cell here. these will continue to liftoff stott north and east and back westward through oakland, san francisco, marin county and the city just a little mist and drizzle here. things are really definitely quieting down from the golden gate bridge. there's to go forming from about a quarter mile visibility up in santa rosa. it's mild. southerly winds continue from oakland and san jose. 59 degrees with 61 half moon bay. looking from our sutro tower camera you can see the visibility not too bad but we are getting more and more fog in the early morning hours with 56 in napa. fairfield 57. showers out by you. and livermore a balmy 61 degrees. so still in the south flow. so this afternoon won't take much for the temperatures to come up into the mid-60s. the last three hours you are notice the rain has definitely added up from san rafael, the napa airport with .4.

and only .01 san jose and .04 here. if we added up the 23 hour totallings we would be close to an in inch the santa cruz mountains. we will look tore some morning showers. a brief break for the middle of the week. then by late wednesday, this system looks pretty interesting. in fact, i'm going to call it a storm from wednesday, thursday and friday with showers, thunderstorms and heavy rain looking like it's going to set up for the entire state once again. so here's the radar and satellite composite. the last bit of energy pushing on through. that will take us through the next several hours. then we will look for some brighter conditions. here we are at 5:00. notice things clearing out in the north bay. 8:00 maybe a few leftover showers, peninsula. but by the early afternoon we will call it partly cloudy with high temperatures anywhere from the low 60s from half moon bay in richmond today, 64 san mateo, 635 palo alto, 66 in san jose. and the accuweather seven-day

. >> good morning and thanks for joining us. i'm chris nguyen. we are keeping an eye on live doppler hd. let's go to lisa argen for more. >> it's a damp start for some of you this saturday morning with a weak impulse continuing to push through the bay area. for some of you the rain has ended but elsewhere it's still coming down. certainly the south bay and santa cruz mountains where we are looking at light to moderate rain. upwards of an in 67 over the

past 24 hours for santa cruz and davenport. san jose is getting the rain through 680 and 101, 880, up through milpitas. so the light rain is definitely causing some problems with the slick pavement and, you know, people not expecting a lot of people out early this morning. but certainly some wet weather out toward pleasanton, discovery bay. but you head further north up through i-5 and there are heavier cells by stockton. closer to the bay things are quieter. a little drizzle and now the fog is beginning to form. we are looking at a different visibility problem. throughout the morning hours the rain will continue to evaporate and we look for a few peaks of sun here and there. most of the weekend, the rest of the day, looking brighter, but not for everyone. looks like tomorrow the north bay will see more rain. then we are looking at a much, much bigger system. i'll detail it for you in the next few minutes. chris. >> thank you so much, lisa. this series of storms means lots

of snow in the sierra. this is what it looked like yesterday at lake tahoe from our tahoe camera. ski resorts like squaw valley are reporting nearly three feet of new snow, and with that kirkwood is opening today and others that opened earlier are running more lifts and trails. they say these storms, even though they are warm, are putting them ahead of last year. >> yes, it was warm but the ski areas are all up above the snow line. we are definitely getting what we need and we are very excited about it >> resorts are saying they are seeing an increase in visitors and bookings with more snow in the forecast through next week. officials in san mateo county are reminding residents despite the heavy rain, the region still faces a serious drought. they are encouraging people to collect rainwater in barrels. they are holding information on how residents can install a rain barrel and receive a rebate up to $100 per barrel. today's information session will

set up. from the east bay back into the south bay, and mainly in the santa cruz mountains there is fog forming. so it is certainly slick out there. mist and drizzle other parts of the bay but as we head toward the santa cruz mountains, davenport, you see the activity. it is just east of boulder creek and we've had about an inch of rain in the santa cruz mountains. we will take you further north a little bit. the park n. near san jose and campbell, scattered very light activity. mist and drizzle. and as you head up toward 680 and 880, milpitas and fremont certainly some wet weather with light rain. and further out west, 580 through tracy, discovery bay, brentwood and livermore, light shower activity. we see the heavier cells east on the way to stockton and back westward. oakley, parts of marin and parts of san francisco beginning to dry out but fog is forming. here's the golden gate bridge. you see the west pavement on the
