we are expecting bay area winds gusting up to 50 miles per hour in urban areas and 70 to 80 miles per hour in the mountains and hills. that means this could be the storm of the decade and crews and people are preparing. take a look at the video we have been shooting across the bay area. marin county is getting set to activate the extreme emergenciation and make reverse 9-1-1 calls to homeowners if needed. mill valley has put up a sign telling folks to be ready and sandbags here are in place at the shopping center after this water pump failed last week during the storm and there was flooding. roger hopes it doesn't happen again. [ inaudible ] >> you will remember, we were in the santa cruz mountains on wednesday where rain and wind caused problems in the community with damage bringing down power

rain in 48 hour ms. san -- hourf rain in san francisco. if we get that much rain it will be the wettest storm since that time. drizzle and fog. this is what we have at sfo, fog. expect delays. possibly up to an hour or hour and a half. nothing like tomorrow. the next 12 hours drizzle and fog this morning. mild and upper 50's. low-to-mid 60's in the afternoon with increasing clouds and sprinkles this afternoon. you will feel the storm at 7:00 with breeze and light rain. the bulk of it is 24 hours away. it will be tough. >> it is. we are going to be smacked. travels will be tough. if you do travel to get to work you will be in trouble. try to stay home, tell commute if you can, and the bay bridge toll plaza shows travels are slowing down. you can see the traffic is loading up and fast tracker is not a problem and the bay bridge

toll plaza is empty as you make it across the water to the north bay you will not find problems. we have had our fair share of citizens. already three citizens -- three accidents two involving overturns trailers. >> protests over the death of black suspects by white police officers show no sign of slow down. a grocery store was looted and freeway traffic was halted and hundreds of aways were made. we are in front of what is a familiar scene: boarded up windows. this is the pack and save in emeryville, just one of many locations damaged last night. we have veto of it being looted one of many trashed during the protest many on san pablo avenue in emeryville: a

traffic halted. protesters staged a "die in," and set off fireworks on the freeway. the c.h.p. moved in and made aarrests. the freeway was shut down for 23 minutes. while they halled people around they were assaulted with rocks thrown at them. other protests are planned today including a roast this morning with the goal of trying to shut down the federal building in oakland. the oakland city council almost recessed the meeting when the protesters showed up. lowers debated whether to stop the meeting and call police. >> the meeting needs to be recessed. if you can agree on a time, a time certain, but our first

cities and san francisco ran out yesterday after giving away 3,500 sandbags with more on the way. in some locations, people have to fill the bags themselves so you may want to bring your own shovel. they are most effective when used to prevent flooding a foot or less of water. >> utility companies are get prepared. trucks are loaded with equipment and supplies in a few hours to restart any lost powers. crews are prepositioned in areas that smart meters show are prone to ought -- to >> san francisco crews have been moving loose rock from telegraph hill. you may recall the hill has had problems before with heavy rain on the way the city is concerns of a repeat of 2012 when

connection to highway 92. the c.h.p. says the car crashed into an abandoned car parked on the right shoulder at 10:30. one person died at the cent and another was taken to the hospital with major injuries and a third suffered minor injuries. several lanes were blocked on 880 and 92 making it tough to get to the san mateo bridge and the sig-alert was issued but it was cleared and the connection re-opened at 2:30 this morning. the san jose city council has voted to enforce a 10 percent tax on those who book a short-term residential hall charged to rooms in traditional hotels. the vote legalized the on-line home sharing service which was prohibited although 300 san jose home uppers were representing rooms or the entire home. san jose now joins san francisco and portland in enforcing the first airbnb tacks with other cities expected to follow.

the oakland city council will ban bull hooks on circus elephants and could cost a lot of money. they are used to stab and pull elephants during training and performance. opponents call them inhumane and company that promises the circus threatened to pull all shows out of oakland if the ban passes. that means the coliseum could be out $1.4 million in revenue. today, the warriors plan to release design updates no the new sports and entertainment center at mission bay neighborhood. the last design got a lot of credit civil and many people say it looked like a toilet. the warriors are poised to build the warriors are poised to build it on 12 acres of the team wants $1 billion protect ready for the 2018-2019

and danville at 51. the fog is thicker on 101 southbound. we will have low-to-mid 60's at the coast and low-to-upper sitting inland and upper 60's 67. and same around the bay with mild high temperatures and sprinkles likely. tomorrow, the hardest part of the storm comes in and scattered thunderstorms with brief and heavy rain and breezy conditions on friday. >> in walnut creek, it and dry and moving nicely. if you head in the northbound direction we have construction from the area up to monument so slow down. watch out for that. it will clear up at 6:30. to the south headed into the san ramon valley, 680 through danville, the top speed makes it into san ramon. at the a pass, we are seeing a slow down and 19 miles per hour leaving tracy.
