>> you can see the highway is completely dark and there are no cars this morning in the area. that is because lanes in both direction are closed between willow and marsh in with northbound traffic exiting at willow. southbound traffic is exiting in this area and c.h.p. will get you around the mess and back to the highway. yesterday during the rain there was a lot of flooding on the highway. they closed a few lanes throughout the day. last night, they closed all lanes because the flooding was too dangerous. caltrain came in and tried to pump some of water out. i got an e.t.a. and c.h.p. hopes to have all lanes open at 5:00, in 20 or 30 minutes. that is what they hope if. they had all of the barriers up

and someone drove right through them. yesterday when there were barriers we would see some drivers trying to get through the puddles and many got stuck. something similar happened this morning, someone drove through the barrier but rather than getting stuck c.h.p. was able to pull them over before it happened and towed the car. sonoma county officials are recommending evacuation of 300 homes in guerneville as the russian river continues to rise. here is what the river looked like yesterday afternoon. it hit flood stage 32' this morning. it is expected to reach 35' around lunch time today. the water flowed into a park and created a new lake. this morning federal scientists are measuring stream me and flooding on the russian river. nick will have a report at the top of the hour from

guerneville. >> a tree fell on a house on shadow creek court in fairfax. the 90' oak poked holes in the roof but family got out. >> at 10:00, i was upstairs in the house and it sounded like an earthquake then another earthquake. i thought it was thunder. i saw the tree was down. >> house has been red tagged and the tree will be cut up this morning. the owner has classic cars in the garage and he is worried the weight of the tree could damage the cars so he wants the tree removed. >> in mill valley there were barriers to keep the floodwater away with a house that is built 3' off the ground for

massive oak tree that fell on a car last night. it is so heavy the tree smashed the front end of the car into the asphalt. the driver was lucky and was not hurt. >> alert safeway employees if san jose heard ominous sounds from the roof and evacuated the store before it crashed down. the roof of the safeway in silver creek collapsed during the storm yesterday. employees heard enjoys and spot add crack in the roof and decided it was time to leave. 50' of the roof collapsed. >> bay area residents are still in the dark because of power outages. the biggest outage is in the north bay affecting 1,400 customers. pg&e reports a thousand homes and businesses are without power in the east bay, 500 customers are in the dark on the peninsula and another 500 do have power in the south bay.

ten customers are affected across san francisco. >> the south bay has seen relentless rain and water 2 1/2' deep and pools in front of two mobile home parks. that led to mandatory evacuation. at the motor lodge, firefighters are going door to door warning residents of the standing water. the same thing is happening at friendly village mobile home park. >> it is voluntary. >> this is how it looked, the entire street was flooded. evacuations were then mandatory. the buses were on stand by in case residents were rushed to safety. a family was ready to go. >> there are only three of us. >> they decided to stay put. for now the heavy rain continued to cause problems all over santa cruz county, a massive tree split in two and fell on two students at gateway school in

santa cruz. >> no broken bones, just bruises and the other student checked out by medical personnel. >> the school close asked students were sent home. residents here are trying to protect their homes clearing storm drains while keeping a close eye on the river. >> it is a constant source of anxiety with this amount of rain if a short period, anything can happen. >> the sand bags are out and the tarps are up. most schools are re-opening and only a few schools have decided to cancel classes today. the closure includes all schools in novato unified school district and several schools in santa rosa, petaluma and throughout sonoma county. the districts are taking road and flooding concerns into account. >> for a list all school closings go to abc7news.com.

petaluma and all the bay area, this is abc7 news. the california highway patrol claims a plain clothes officer pull add gun on protesters to protect the life of his partner who was attacked. a freelance "san francisco chronicle" photographer snapped this picture of the c.h.p. officer point his gun at 27th and harrison on wednesday. the officers have planed into the crowd before someone figured out they were police and c.h.p. officials claim a man kicked the officer's partner in the head and the crowd was closing in on both of them. the officer first pulled out a baton before he drew his gun. >> we are extremely cognizant and sensitive to the display of a gun. in this situation the officer escalated to the level to protect himself, his partner who was just assaulted and the other innocent bystanders trying to peacefully protest. >> oakland police moved in and

arrested the man suspected of attacking the c.h.p. officer. a pedestrian died after being hit by a.c. transit bus in alameda movying the bus was turning left and it struck the victim at otis and grant. police closed the intersection for several hours while officers investigated the tragedy. the alameda county coroner is working to identify the victim. >> we have shown you a lost storm damage the past day and you could be wondering, what will the homeowners' fix? we share the answers with you from michael finney. >> the front door is blocked, the walk is ripped. >> branches came through the roof cracking walls, damage is shown here, screen after computer screen. >> i could not get over how fast they worked, the ajustor was there in 24 hours and i had a

surf advisory until 4:00 this afternoon. the breakers, although they are around 12-14', some could cincinnati up to 20' with rip currents out there along with beach erosion. in the flood warning for the russian river around guerneville, it is going to crest above flood stage an hour ago and it will hit noon to 1:00 o'clock above flood stage. by 12:30 tomorrow afternoon it will finally recede below flood stage. here is the income wave of showers encroaching upon the russian river and for the rest of us we will watch this batch over the next hour. it will make its way to the coast and the peninsula and most of the 101 corridor. if you are leaving now you are fine. if you leave in 45 minutes you are going to get wet. as we head to the afternoon you can see the scattering and smattering of showers and the possibility of thunderstorms and they have yellow and orange and
