>> abc7 news begins with breaking news. the breaking news affects bart passengers. the connection between oakland international aiport and come see bart is out of service. the people mover started operating only 2 1/2 weeks ago. bart says there is an equipment problem on the tracks. there is no word on when it will be fixed. bus service is available on a.c. transit bus 73. >> good morning, i am eric thomas here for kristen sze. >> the other ton story is the continuing rain and the storm damage. we are getting a new look at the devastation from the powerful storm that swept through the bay

area yesterday flooding highways and downing trees and damaging homes and businesses. the russian river is already overflowing the banks and it is expected to rise here over the next couple of hours and that is a scary in the for folks at home who might be flooded. knick is there with -- nick is e with the latest. nick? >> those would live here need to know they need to watch the river but are taking it in stride and using kayaks do get around if the water is higher and they are hoping it will crest soon and start to recede. >> >> it goes around the back of the two houses and comes right here where the bridge is. >> it just so happened that the "right here," is his front yard. the gravel parking lot has been transformed for a mini lake and construction workers are trying to salvage what they can and the call to the guy who uns the house, words he knows no homeowners wanted to hear.

heaviest of the weather at redwood city and alameda and into the santa cruz mountains. this is all headed to the south bay so this is where we are going to see the best chance of some of the understanding as we head through the afternoon hours. this should start to taper during the evening hours but be careful, this is more storm behind us and that is why the flood advisory is out until 9:00. thank you. the bankrupt of the storm could be gone but it is certainly causing some headaches this morning. people living in drawn city are waking up to a giant tree that came crashing through the roof inches from where they were sleeping. sky 7 showed the damage from overhead. look at that. it is a the love work to get rid of the, the large tree crashed on to a residential care facility on the court just before 4:30 this morning and everyone is okay. two residents were taken to the hospital as a precaution. everyone else is moved to another care facility. right now, workers are still there chopping down the big tree. in san jose there were two

weather-related holes in the roof of a safeway and it is getting worse. some workers got out minutes before a 50' section collapsed during the storm. we are at at the safe way. >> firefighters say there are now two hole, one is 50 by 50' and the other is half that side. contractors are taking a look inside and if you can see it, you can see there is extensive damage. there is a hole in the ceiling. there are wooden peoples dangling in the aisles. >> video from sky 7 h.d. shows a giant hole in the roof of safeway. it partly collapsed at the store on san jose's east capitol expressway during yesterday's powerful storm. it happened before 4:00. safeway was open and people remain inside when the ceiling came will crashing down. today, employees take another

years. san jose was hit with more than 3" of rain, the third wettest day to that city's history. and whiskey town, california, was drenched with 1 2" of rain, the most in the entire state. pg&e is still trying to turn the power back on to 3,000 bay area customers with the biggest out agency affecting 870 corms and 710 in the east bay and 535 customers in the if peninsula and another 300 without power in the south by. >> customs and people living in san francisco diamond heights are dealing with a power outage with crews trying to restore power to businesses and the safe way and walgreens are closed. >> we call up with a woman reading by flashlight at a coffee shop in the dark. >> fairly simple. there is no light at home. this is no way did have coffee.

facing mandatory evacuations after the hills were weakened by the fire last january. the hillside could break loose from the heavy amount rain. >> the bay area took a pounding but there is a side benefit from the storm. look at the before and after lexington reservoir in santa clara county. the storm put more water in the depleted reservoir but it still has a long way do go and is only at 26 percent of capacity right new. >> if the skies do clear, and they will, you may want to lock to the stars. >> we will tell you about a meteor shore you don't want to miss. >> a soccer player survives a brush with death after lightning struck during a match. >> a look at traffic on san mateo bridge, there is still and rain here. you can see drops on the camera lens and meteorologist mike nicco has the forecast after this.

the timetable for the flooding has been moved up that was set to expire at 12:35 and now it is at 6:35 tomorrow morning so that is good news for the folks around the russian river. we have had waves of light rain move across and we are seeing that right now, the heavier rain in the north bay is moving through mill valley, sausalito, pulling away from san rafael and san quentin but across the richmond and san rafael bridge, with an uptick in the wet weather right here but you slide down the heaviest wet weather is moving through east palo alto headed to 101 and pulling away from university avenue in palo alto. it will go into the mountains. you can see the heavy rain moving through los altos hills and headed to los altos mountains and sunnyvale. the whole system is moving down on to the south bay but, notice, it is losing the steam.

as far as the wind, the tree that came down today did not come down because of the wind but because of the rain. the rain weighted the top of the tree. it lost its footing because of the soft ground. it went over. that is a possibility of seeing more of that occurring the next couple of hours. >> the rainfall surplus, everyone is great for this rain year that began july 1, from 3.25 in livermore to 5.5" at moffett field and san jose is 5" of plus, and 3.25" at oakland at the airport and 4.5" at san francisco, and santa rosa is up near 4.75". the rain moved through san rafael and look at this, it is an area that now has standing water as we look southbound on 101. that is an area you will have to avoid for the next couple of hours. this is how it looks from the east bay hills thicker clouds are coming in with the moisture to sausalito and the golden gate bridge and rain hasn't quite made it down to 87 near the

shark tapping but it is coming your way in the next 20 minutes to-an hour so scattered showers and storms are possible, dry during the weekend day but come sunday night, monday and tuesday we will have a rain that will last the entire 48 hours the right new we have low-to-mid 50's so it is cool. this morning, following the storms rolling through, as we head into the afternoon and evening hours, we will start to see it tapering and we will wake up tomorrow with clouds and patchy fog. as we head through saturday we will have the most sunshine then but upper 50's to low 60's and the same thing on sunday but it will be mostly cloudy sunday after the sun it is the light rain move ms. and it may not stop until tuesday night. wednesday is looking cloudy and thursday is also looking pretty dry, but, we have snow in lake tahoe today, we will have snow in lake tahoe on monday, tuesday and wednesday coinciding with the same storm so it is looking up in that respect and we should not have the flooding with the next system as we have with this
