good saturday morning you to you . i'm chris nguyen. let's start with a quick look at the forecast. meteorologist lisa argen tracking live doppler 7 hd for us. lisa, a lot of fog out there. >> there certainly is a lot of fog . we had a lot of showers around the monterey coast and big sur earlier he. delays of 47 minutes at sfo and temperatures in the low 40s from the peninsula, redwood city, 42. 48, half moon bay. san francisco at 50. so it's been foggy in concord and livermore this morning. a little bit of fog by oakland, so it is moving around, but the worst areas are from the delta through the north bay. so this will stay with us

throughout the mid morning hours. after 9:00 we'll begin to see this lift and, for a change, how about some sunshine today with mid-50s out towards concord. about 58 in san francisco. 60 in oakland . and then we'll look for a pattern change as another wet weather maker heads our way by tomorrow. chris? >> lisa, thank you very much. well, this week's storm did so much damage especially at one mobile home park. a new home own er had a tree crash on her house one day after she closed the sale. abc 7 news reporter serngio quintana has the story. >> reporter: crews began pumping out water from this mobile home park. the management's pumps were overwhelmed by all the rain. >> definitely some of the houses got water inside. hopefully to our trailer it didn't go inside, but it was pretty high. >> reporter: they were not allowed to get inside to see the extent of any damage. a total of 85 homes have been

evacuated. the whole park is red tagged because of standing water may be contaminated. down the peninsula in redwood city, two others are red tagged. >> they will be here at 0700 to pump out whatever water is left and work with the owners to clean up. >> reporter: fire crews had a boat to help some residents out. nearly 60 people from the mobile home parks were evacuated during the storm and are still out of their home n. san mateo, this massive oa can k caused quite a mess. >> i got a phone call saying there was a tree that had fallen on our house and here we are. >> reporter: this woman showed us the enormous root that buckled in the rain-soaked dirt. no one was inside because they haven't moved in yet. they just bought the place. >> gosh. they have to cut it all down , get rid of it, and then use a crane to left it out of the garage. >> reporter: they want to cover the gaping holes in parts of the roof with tarps before the next storm comes. sergio quintana, abc 7 news. and take a look at this.

a giant eucalyptus tree crashed through the roof of a care center just inches away from people who were asleep. no one was hurt. the tree did hit the main building and two bedrooms. the russian river is receding, good news for the people of guerneville in sonoma county. plenty of damage has already been done. for those who lost everything to flood waters, it will take some time to recover. abc 7 news reporter katie marzullo has details. >> reporter: they thought they had 72 hours to evacuate but they didn't. >> there was like a foot of water in the yard. >> reporter: they got out with some clothes and their car but they department have a truck to move their fifth wheel trailer. >> when we got up to go look at it, we saw our trailer was already swept away. i think i might have found a

part of the roof stuck in the tree where it used to be at. >> reporter: they're relying for shelter and help. the agency is actually their employer. they work helping the homeless. >> we want to get them settled and out of crisis and get their possessions moved over. they're anxious to come back to work, believe it or not. >> we're going to be starting over, but it's a good place to start. i know there's good people that work here. >> reporter: the water is still waist high. firefighters shared these pictures. they had to evacuate a family including two young children from their home with a boat. others suffered a muddy mess and hours of cleanup. >> the last time it came up and surrounded the house a little bit. this year it got in the garage, the backyard. >> people aren't there full time. had to shut off their propane and open some gates up for them. just trying to help a little bit. >> and the work continues. another neighbor fighting water with water. in guerneville, katie marzullo,

abc 7 news. the damage is worse than first thought at a san jose safeway store where a ceiling came crashing down. there are two gaping holes in the roof, and the walls are unstable. the city's building inspector has -- will now have to determine if the store is structurally sound enough to be repaired. this is the damage to a scenic session of highway 1 in marin county. you can see the partial collapse of the roadway between panoramic highway. the storm washed away much of the soil beneath the road. repairs could continue through march. forecasters say a storm next week is expected to add more snow to parts of the sierra. the snow papack has increased. the storms would need to continue throughout the winter to make a significant impact on the drought. the snowpack is important because it replenishes reservoirs when it melts during the summer months. you can see what's showing up on live doppler 7 hd snim with the weather app.

it's free on apple's app store or google play. we also have more information n online at abc7news.com/app. this morning defensemmonstr are preparing for two separate marches in oakland and san francisco to pro-it test police brutality. they're calling it the day of anger millions march, part of a nationwide action. the latest reaction to the grand jury decision in the michael brown and eric garner cases. the marches start at 2:00 in the afternoon at oakland and san francisco city hall. the families of eric garner and michael brown will be in washington, d.c., today for a march demanding justice following the high-profile deaths of unarmed black men at the hands of police. here is a live look now from freedom plaza in washington, d.c., where protesters have gathered. abc news has more on today's march that is expected to draw thousands of people. >> reporter: this morning as thousands of people on their way to the nation's capital organizers here getting ready for what could be the largest

yet of the hundreds of passionate demonstrations across the country against police brutality and racism after the high-profile deaths of michael brown and eric garner. >> we need to move from investigation to prosecution. >> no justice, no peace. >> reporter: students at the nation's most distinguished medical schools calling for change with the #white coats for black lives, staging at columbia, yale, brown. >> thinking of what they go through. >> i think it's tough. i think it's hard for folks to talk about and, so, this is one way of coming together and to give voice to these issues. >> congressional staffers walking out of congress this week to make a silent statement. their hands up. the wave of protests in reaction to what activists consider are the unnecessary deaths of unarmed black men including michael brown shot to death in

ferguson, missouri, and eric garner, who died after being held in an apparent joke chokehold in staten island, new york. the anger reignited when grand juries refused to indict the white police officers involved in their deaths. their grieving families now leading this movement to the place they believe matters most, expecting thousands to march with them to capitol hill demanding congress take action to save lives. the civil rights groups want a new law that would make it easier to take over. when they arrive at the u.s. capitol today, the senate is expected to be in a rare saturday session still working on a spending bill. abc news, washington. michael brown's father is coming to the bay area tomorrow. michael brown sr. says he wants his son's memory to be respected in peace and in political action. brown will be speaking at the third baptist church tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.

two men face felony charges for attacking police officers during wednesday night's protests in berkeley. officers arrested justin mo of wyoming after they say he aggressively drove his van toward a police officer directing traffic. christopher edwards of petaluma is also charged. edwards is accused of spitting in an oftser's face and for trying to steal his bicycle. the review commission wants the city's police force to temporarily ban the use of tear gas, projectiles and batons against crowds. some peaceful protesters complained about police using excessive force . our media partners report that the ban would stand until an investigation into the possible improper use of tear gas is complete. the city council could take up the issue tuesday. oakland has spent $1.3 million on protests there. that figure does not include property damage. police have made nearly 210

arrests during 14 protests over a total of 18 days. santa clara county is looking to crack down on accountability. according to "the mercury news" they will consider a proposal to outfit sheriff's deputies. one supervisor says he believes the technology will protect the public against office er misconduct. it calls for more police accountability following high-profile deaths of unarmed men at the hands of police. time now is 8:10. lisa, some people heading out to walnut creek for the half marathon. >> okay , yeah, a good idea. they have been shrouded in fog with about a mile visibility. and from our roof camera you can seep the gray sky with 50 degrees in san francisco. 53 at the airport. 57-minute delays at sfo. most of the fog in the north bay is getting better in the east bay valleys. a dry day today. i'll explain when we return.

in southern california, the most powerful rocket ever launched took to the skies last night. the unmanned rocket is carrying a classified payload for the national recognizance office. storms delayed this mission. it was supposed to launch thursday night. san francisco is making another bid to host the summer olympic games. accord iing to our media partne "the san jose mercury news" tuesday the city will be one of four making pitches to the u.s. olympic committee at a meeting in redwood city. sfrap san francisco is vying to be the 2024 olympic games. san francisco has lost out on three previous attempts to host the olympics. california's battling the worst whooping cough epidemic to hit the state in years.

nearly 10,000 cases across the state so far this year. california's last epidemic was in 2010. despite an aggressive health campaign in response, the current outbreak is worse. the limited protection of the vaccine introduced in the 1990s has led to the rise in cases. research has shown it doesn't last as long as the old one. 8:15 the time. the deals we all took advantage of this holiday shopping season may not have been good deals at all. website wirecutter.com looked at sales items and found less than 1% of them were actually good deals. an analyst for the website said the words deal and sale have an emotional impact so they make us more likely to buy into the marketing base. there are ways to find actual deals, though. camocamocamo.com lets you track prices over time and tracks thousands of deals online to help you find the lowest praises. thieves have stolen christmas

from nearly 50 bay area families in need. the salvation army is counting on the kindness of others to help replace all the gifts that were supposed to be given to families next week. alan wang has more. this was filled to the brim worth of clothes, toys. >> reporter: until thieves cleaned out almost all of the christmas presents. >> a heavy duty lock, first of all, they broke there. prior to that they cut through the fence right behind me. >> reporter: the gifts were wrapped for donation to 48 needy families in contra costa county. >> this toy was for a boy named efron. >> reporter: students here in danville also feel like they got robbed. >> it really shocks me they would do that and not think of others. >> reporter: they wrote

personalized christmas cards and filled wish lists. >> we all worked really hard because we wanted them to have a good christmas. it's not fair. >> reporter: now these students are determined to keep this from being a year without a santa claus. the salvation army of contra costa county is accepting donations to replace those gifts. alan wang, abc 7 news. if you can help replace those toys, we have information on how to give at abc7news.com. hours after someone stole a 20-foot christmas tree. residents sprang into action. it was supposed to be the centerpiece of a celebration being held today. people were outraged when they learned about the theft. so dug deep to donate cash and trees. organizers will have four christmas trees at today's event. it goes from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. tejada corner of webster street and pacific avenue. time now is 8:17.

and weatherwise lisa, today is december 12 -- or december 13, 2014. 12/13/14. it's a lucky number, a lot of couples might be getting married. how is the weather shaping up for them? >> our fog is shlowly beginning to lift. that's good news. we'll add some sunshine in a that and perhaps temperatures managing about 60 degrees in some spots. live doppler 7 hd. a little bit of green and the bottom of your screen there. we've had a few light showers push into the santa cruz mountains. these continue to move on off. not causing any bit of a problem around the bay. but we will be looking at the fog. well, that is still lingering. here is a look from emeryville where we do have the sunshine. looks pretty good out there. oakland has been a little bit foggy and temperatures have been cool. redwood city 42. san jose is sitting at 44 and 50 in half moon bay. more reminiscent of wintertime and appropriately so because the

winter solstice is next sunday. 3:00 in the afternoon. sfo 47-minute delays and we're looking at visibility being reduced may ly in the north bay by the delta. east bay valley improving in concord and livermore 46 degrees. 41 in napa. as i say that half mile in livermore. four miles in concord and less than a quarter mile in petaluma. this is the nature of a stable atmosphere. very little wind in the atmosphere. and temperature and dew point spread none. about the same. so that's why we get the fog and it is moving around. it should be with us through the 10:00 hour and then we'll get into more of a partly cloudy sky. so from our roof camera we have a mixture of clouds and sun. fog any in spots. a break today in the rain for partly cloudy skies. much of tomorrow will be dry. the rain arrives at about 7:00. we'll time it out for you and several other weather temperatures headed our way in the upcoming workweek. so here is where we are. looks great, right?

well, with nine inches of rain and 17 % of normal, we are still looking at only about a 10% impact in our drought. so we need much, much more and the break today helping us because look at the sierra snowpack, really lagging behind with only 40% of normal. they did pick up anywhere from 12 to 18 inches yesterday and the next several systems will be cold ones. 3-6 inches day-to-day in the sie sierra nevada. here is our next system and that will bring the rain. in fact, it will add up again. 5:00 tomorrow we're still dry. look at 9:00, 10:00, 11 clo:00 night. some light to moderate rain as it pushes over into the bay area. then some heavy pockets through the overnight hours. your monday morning commute will be a wet one and a slow one. and the evening commute will see showers and we'll see from about 2 inches in the wettest

oswald films. empty thoughts from 1927 is rare. previously only a 27-second copy existed until now. the uncovered film is actually five and a half minutes long. it was sitting in two unmarked film reel cases that hadn't been opened in years the. this is video from a different oswald cartoon. disney is the parent company of abc 7. 7 on up side teamed up with consumer reports to find the toys that will bring a wag to your dog's tail and make your cat happy. here is michael finney with the details. >> reporter: shopping for our pets is fun. half past the hour on this saturday, december 13. thank you for joining us. i'm chris nguyen. a quick look at the forecast. here is meteorologist lisa argen tracking live doppler 7 hk. hi, lisa. >> we've had showers offshore that continue to drift to the big sur coast and into southern california. they've had about 0.2 of precip the last 24 hours. these showers are offshore. if they go anywhere it's along monterey and big sur. looking at the fog, though, 47-minute delays at sfo and there is chilly air out there

with the low clouds and also some partly cloudy skies as well. we were down to 39 in napa earlier. 49 in concord and the visibility just a quarter of a mile in livermore. less than that in napa. santa rosa, petaluma and you heard about the delays at sfo. san carlos at nine miles. from this vantage point, you see the sunshine. that's on the way today. partly cloudy skies with mid-50s in our east bay valleys to about 58 in san francisco. we'll talk about more rain coming up as soon as tomorrow. >> thank you very much. turning now to breaking news in the north bay a. fatal crash has blocked two northbound lanes of highway 29 in napa county. officers responding to a reporter of a collision just north of napa before 5:30. a sig alert was issued. there is no estimated time as to when the lanes will reopen. time now is 8:31. after days of rain, many are asking is the drought over?

not quite yet according to experts. a look at the lexington r reservoir in santa clara county. despite the rain, the reservoir is critically low. abc 7 news reporter jonathan bloom reports from alongside guadeloupe creek in san jose. >> reporter: when we asked nancy nicholas for an interview, we had no idea we'd be helping her fill sandbags. >> i should have repaired over the summer and i need to block a little area. >> reporter: what happened during the storm yesterday? >> i used a towel. >> reporter: admittedly it's hard to think about flooding when you've been so busy with the drought. >> i've installed a low flow shower head. we have three bathrooms. >> reporter: row ber berto coul picked up sandbags but is stuck filling his open after they they ran out. it didn't produce as much run-off into the reservoirs as

we expected. the lexington reservoir is still critically low. in before and after shots from the water district you can see the storm helped but the dry ground soaked up so much, the reservoir only rose 3%. it is only the first step. >> we need to replenish the basin. though it is raining outside, it will take. >> reporter: the santa clara valley gets its water. water is released into these ponds where it soaks into the aquifer and you can see the ponds are still dry but there's another storm coming. >> i say bring it on but a little steadier, slow and steady, you know. when people get flooded, it's not right. >> reporter: we'll see if we can pass that on to the abc 7 news weather team. regardless of how and when the rain falls, the next storm will bring more help for the drought because now the ground is already wet, meaning more of that water will will run off and wind up in the reservoirs that can actually help the south bay's water supply. here is the other bit of good news. while the ponds have been empty,

the water district has left a nice, soft surface for the water to sooep down into the aquifer more quickly than before. abc 7 news. happening today, marin county will hold an open house to help residents prepare for p potential flooding, part of fema's high water mark initiatives to raise awareness of local flood risk. today's event gets under way in front of the downtown fire station. a tornado touched down in south los angeles yesterday during a heavy rainstorm. take a look at this. a witness captures a terrifying scene on video. the tornado moved over ten blocks ripping off a roof and damaged at least five homes and several cars. residents say they've never seen anything like it. >> i thought the house was going to collapse. the winds pull the door off. closed the door on me. >> i just looked up and saw things blowing everywhere. it was scary.

>> the tornado hit just before r9d yesterday morning with wind speeds of between 65 and 85 miles per hour. richmond police are searching for suspects in connection with a shooting that wounded three people. it happened at around 9:35 last night on southampton court. police say an argument broke out between two groups inside a carport of an apartment complex. at one point a man pulled out a gun and opened fire. two men and one woman was hurt, one critically injured. police say they're looking for are a white bmw or mercedes suv that fled the scene after shooting. several bay area cities are holding gun buyback events one day after a gun violence prevention rally was held in san francisco. gun control advocates remember the two-year anniversary of the sandy hook school shooting in newtown, connecticut. 28 lives were lost in the tragedy. lawmakers and city officials joined the rally to help launch a gun buyback program in san francisco this weekend.

>> i have friends and family that were murdered in their homes. i have friends in wheelchairs, a paraplegic because they've been shot. this, to me, has a direct impact on helping our community. >> san jose and oakland are also holding gun buyback programs. here are the details, $100 for each handgun, rifle, oregon shot gun and $200 for assault weap s weapons. the buybacks are at 9:00 this morning. the san francisco police department says it has cleared a backlog of rape kits datinging back more than ten years. the department's crime lab was the focus of an intensive abc 7 i-team investigation. more than 750 cases of sexual assault reported between 2003 and 2013 have now been submitted to a crime lab for analysis. a spokeswoman says under staffing was the main reason for the massive backlog in the department's crime lab dna section. in 2011 only four employees. today there are 15.

police in emeryville arrested four people suspected of running a sex trafficking ring. it happened at the acucare spa which used to be here at 39th streets. according to investigators the suspects brought in women from asia to work as prostitutes. after a two-year investigation, police shut down the spa over the summer. the property's new owners demolished the business. time is 8:37. new this morning, president obama is expressing gratitude to the men and women who wear our nation's uniforms. in his weekly address, mr. obama says the americans who serve in the nation's military have met every mission they've been tasked with. he says on monday he'll meet in person with troops in new jersey to thank them for their service. >> troops on monday have been part of the mission to degrade isil in syria. they've been supporting our efforts to fight the ebola epidemic and save lives.

minutes. fog in our east bay valley sitting there and looking at the temperature and the dew point the same. petaluma, santa rosa, less than that in napa and a little bit at oakland this morning. so within the 10:00 hour things should be getting a little bit brighter around those areas. more snow on the way for tuesday, wednesday -- monday, tuesday and wednesday with a couple of weak weather systems. maybe more than that with each system. foggy spots. more rain arrives tomorrow. it takes us through monday and even a portion of tuesday but certainly not as big as what we experienced last week that brought up our totals. 210%. over ten inches of rain. eight inches brought move et up to 267%.
