attention of lots of people here today. six feet high in some places. the tide is out right now but in a few hours king tides will be back and where i'm standing will be underwater once again, cutting off access to homes and businesses. >> sometimes it's entertaining. but most of the time it's frustrating. >> heidi says 18 years of living in a houseboat has lost its charge. high king tides make it impossible for her to leave him. >> you live on a house both you expect this lifestyle but after a while it gets frustrating. we have to wade off the dock. >> getting to mill valley was challenging sunday. this exit closed when king tides caused flooding. caltrans crews shut down the shoreline highway after its vanished underwater. a few bikers brave enough to plow through. >> trying to get into mill valley, closed off. >> it is. >> but i think i can go north on

the freeway. so that's going to be my move. >> luckily he made it through. the water flooded the parking lot of the holiday inn express. driving how to wasn't easy. dedicate postal worker just doing this job, getting holiday packages delivered. >> were you sure the truck would get through? >> have to be very careful. we still have to go through. >> welder, andy allen, was cut off from his job site so he put on rubber boots and hauled his welding tank through the water in a wag again. >> i i have to get to work. >> king tides laos several days-cause the gravitational pull of the sun and moon on the earth. frequency of the tides may increase over the next 50 years. this pilot is trying to keep high tide out of his seaplane tour office but water pumps working as fast as they can. in fact they've been on duty for weeks when storms flooded parts of highway 101 in december. sky 7hd was overhead.

>> we got three pumps all over the place. sandbags. sandbags on the airplanes, you name it. >> all this water just a preview. the biggest tides of the season are expected in january. in mill valley, cornell bernard, abc7 news. >> let's go to abc7 news meteorologist drew tuma for more on the king tides and live doppler 7hd. >> we're going to see a couple more days of this minor flooding in low-lying areas thanks to the king tide. let's talk about what we have in terms of advisory. a coastal flood advisory in effect and will last a couple days until 3:00 tuesday afternoon. you see areas in green along the coast and around the bay. for localized flooding, meaning that seawater going back on the roadways, swashings, and trails. let's talk about when times of high tide will be over the next 24 hours. around san francisco, first high tide just after midnight, tomorrow morning, and then another one just before 11:00 a.m. on monday. and in the east bay, near oakland, high tide right around

12:19 a.m. tomorrow morning, and a second one occurring at 11:15 a.m. we'll talk much more about the tides and winter officially arrived, and it's going to be a pretty nice change. i'll talk about the details in the accuweather seven-day forecast in just a few minutes. >> in san jose, firefighters rescued a man after a gazebo collapsed under the weight of a fallen tree. it happened on confer court this afternoon. the man was trying to chop up the downed tree. it had fallen during a recent storm. the man injured his hand and suffered cuts and scrapes. he is now recovering at a hospital. >> just minutes ago there was a camelight vigil for two new york city police officers killed in the line of duty. this is new video in front of the new york city police department. also, police say they have a video that show this suspect, 28-year-old ismaaiyl brinsley telling two men, watch what i'm going to do. moments late he went up to patrol car and shot police

frontyard saturday when a man came up and grabbed the four-year-old girl. police say when the man started walking away with her, the 13-year-old boy sprang into action. >> the 13-year-old grabbed the arm of our suspect and at that point he dropped the child. definitely quick on his feet. very responsible for his family. and obviously his loved one, his four-year-old sister. at this point we -- he is our hero for today. >> neighbors flagged down a deputy patrolling the area, told him what happened and he found the suspect and arrested him. the suspect is in jail on kidnapping charges tonight. >> members of fremont's afghan and muslim communities are sharing a simple message today. stop the violence. >> we want peace! we want peace! we want peace! >> they're directing the mess toward terror groups like isis which has taken thousands of innocent lives. >> being destroyed in syria, the christians being killed in

syria, muss limps being killed across the globe, it's not under the flag of islam, under the banner of islam. they are a minority acting, trying to represent islam, when they have absolutely nothing to do with the faith. >> fremont is home to one of america's largest afghan communities. a bay area family's holiday display has drawn thousands of visitors in person and received millions of views on youtube. the display is not just a spectacle. it's helping raise money for the poor. we're live as the crowd begins to form. reporter: believe it or not some of these people showed up nearly two ours ago to get a parking spot and a spot in the front row. this display uses more than 100,000 lights what makes it so popular is the lights are time to match "star wars" music. >> this video posted on youtube has already generated more than three million hits since it was posted five days ago. he was also a music teacher, spent eight months building the display and choreographing the lighted with the music. the layout includes a 19-foot fee an know, 17-foot guitar light beams on the roof. >> i enjoy watching it, too. i spend a lot of time on it. basically what you see is kind of like what is going on in my mind when i hear music and i want to share that with everybody else. >> george says since the video went viral the crowds have grown. he estimates about 3,000 people came out last night. the show runs every night from 6:00 to 10:00 here in newark. spectators are also encouraged to make a donation. there's a jar in the driveway warp, and george hopes to make $10,000 by christmas and the money will go to help the homeless. >> that's awesome. i'm jealous you get to see in it person.

happening now. lava in hawai'i is creeping up on a shopping center. the flow from the kilauea volcano advanced 160 yards since friday and is picking up speed. experts say it could hit the shopping area in six or seven days. the last bit of nuclear fuel has been removed from one of the damaged reactor buildings in fukushima, japan. on saturday workerrers lift everytime container of fuel from the pool and transferred it to another building where it can be safely housed. this is a big step forward in deactivating the other reactors there are three more buildings. nasa hopes to some day man missions to venus. he space agency is developing a fleet of solar-powered aircraft. the hope is to build a club to

call home and allow scientists to use the ships to explore the planet's outer atmosphere. the surface is far too hot and the inner atmosphere has too much lightning and sulfuric acid rain. scientists hope to learn more about the advanced greenhouse effect which would help us better understand how the earth is changing. the first step is to send a row bat to examine the atmosphere, and then a settlement could be based in the clouds. no timeline for when this happened but nasa believes it would be easier to explore venus than mars. >> up next at 6:00, a look at your christmas forecast. abc7 news meteorologist drew tuma is up next. >> tony spore ran know making a strong case to remove interim from his job title.

opening satellite and radar. first we did have clouds early on. those are breaking down. notice the forecast does show clouds well to the north and showers around portland and seattle. the moisture will stay to north thanks to the high pressure blocking any rain from moving in, so tomorrow morning, 7:00, there could be some isolated patchy fog areas. otherwise plenty of sunshine on the way for a monday afternoon, and we'll essentially duplicate that forecast into tuesday. by tuesday afternoon, basically not a cloud in the sky. wall-to-wall sunshine and mild temperatures, ten degrees above normal. but we'll move forward into christmas eve. wednesday at 4:00 the afternoon you notice a little bit of rain is starting to show up around santa rosa and ukiah. any rain will be isolated and light on wednesday. the bigger issue, if you are taking to the skies, especially to the east coast, that will be some travel troubles. look at this. rain from wbc, new york, boston, even snow in chicago.

so, there could be hefty travel delays on christmas eve. overnight tonight in the bay area, hides across the board except for the north bay, which will drop into the up per 40s. then tomorrow, after some early morning fog, plenty of sunshine on the way. mild temperatures. san rafael, 67. fairfield, 70. san jose, 67. the seven-day forecast calls for the clouds early on, sunshine tomorrow. mild on tuesday. temperatures into the upper 60s again in our inland spots-even 60s along the coast, and a sprinkle in the north bay. so really no travel issues for us around the bay area. all clears out of here on thursday for christmas. it's cooler. mostly sunny on friday, and then that sunny, dry pattern sticks around for next weekend, saturday and sunday, temperatures the very seasonal. so, no big storms coming our way the next seven days which is
