>> dozens of north bay families are spending christmas eve in the dark. >> that's after high winds toppled trees in marin county. one of which took down power lines. good evening and happy holidays. >> it wasn't just marin county. windy weather took down trees across the bay area today. >> in san francisco's castro district this tree fell at sanchez and market streets blocking the sidewalk. it missed a parked car by inches, but at least no one was hurt. no one was hurt on mountain view near highway 237 blocking the bike lane and one lane of traffic. >> let's go to marin county where one downed tree is causing two big problems.

alan wang is live in san rafael. alan? >> katie, at last check 57 customers were out of power along lucas valley road. the windy gusts were replaced by cooler temperatures. earlier today they caused a lot of problems. tree cuter louis mendez was one hour away from christmas with his family when he got the call for a downed tree on lucas valley road. >> my kids are still waiting for me. i call home and i have an emergency. >> high wind gusts up to 36 miles an hour thrashed marin county around 2:30 this afternoon. it toppled these pine trees across the main artery near skywalker ranch. the downed power lines prevented people from getting to the christmas eve dinner and concert. >> we had to take a big detour around novato and stafford lake and back here. >> around a the same time, this tree fell across highway

one causing a huge back up there. back on lucas valley road, hundreds of people who had to take a 40-minute detour, worried they would miss the concert. >> some of them begged the highway patrol. >> the band's drummer had to take a detour so the whole night was started two hours late. meanwhile louis mendez had the road cleared in record time. >> we try to go home. our kids are waiting to open presents. >> louis made it home to his family and the concert was another hit. alan wopping, abc7 news. >> in addition to gusty winds a string of showers moved across the bay area this afternoon. >> it only lasted for a short time, but it was enough for people to break out the umbrellas and the wind shield wipers. >> and the chain controls are

score afternoon is in the midto upper 50s. i will be back with a detailed look on where santa is now. and if he will encounter holiday problems. >> right now there are no major delays at any of the three bay area airports. that wasn't the case when 100 flights were behind schedule. the delays were 30 to up to 60 minutes and mostly on shorts, regional flights. the same story at san jose, but a few behind schedule by 15 minutes. right now everything is running smoothly. we also checked with oakland's airport and no delays there. >> if you forgot someone on your christmas list, the only places left to buy a gift at this point are convenience and drugstores. sometimes there are good stuff there though. we found a steady stream of shoppers who waited until the last minute to get their gifts. this toys r us in san jose stayed open until 9:00. and now it is to the after christmas sales. they predict post holiday

shopping could break records this year. if your holiday package didn't arrive in time for christmas tomorrow, you won't be able to blame ups or fed ex. both companies put a limit on retailers after a late surge in delivery requests. that means if you bought something on-line last minute, neither shipping company has to honor the retailer's christmas day delivery promise. >> i always stop at the quick stop on christmas eve and get everything. one of the most touching is toward those in need. an annual example of that, tradition of caring. sergio is live with the story before he settles in for the long winter's nap. >> and there are still people donating at lefty odoule's. and then i will show you somebody else has toys to donate to the needy kids in the city. this is a day long event.

sony released the controversial movie on-line and on demand one day before it hits movie theaters. this is the first time a major studio is making a film available for home viewing at the same time it opens in theaters. as alyssa harrington reports they are preparing for big crowds. >> hello north korea! >> the movie "the interview" that just a week ago looked like it may never again see the light of day is now on computer screens and will be shown at around 300 theaters across the country including the elmwood and berkeley where heidi -- high demand has lead to additional show time. >> i have people calling saying they don't want to see the movie, but want to thank us for playing it. >> it quickly snowballed into a controversial film after sony was hacked and the fbi linked threats of retaliation to north korea. today google play, xbox and youtube made the movie

touchdown. instead of kicking the extra point they go for two and the win. the pass falls in complete. western kentucky hangs on for the win and the first ever bowl win. santa was singing tiny bubbles before going to work. the bulldogs' offense could not get much going. he tries to go deep, but this ball will be intercepted. he threw a pair of picks. it was a 59-yard touchdown. the owls win it 30-6. that earns coach a gatorade bath. for the first time ever the national championship will be decided by a playoff on new year's day. oregon takes on florida state at the rose bowl and then alabama plays ohio state in the sugar bowl. both games are on espn.
