sunrise, which is 7:24. so we are 14 degrees colder than yesterday morning. 11 degrees colder in san carlos. mountain view 9 degrees colder. plenty of sunshine today. temperatures will be on the cool side. only slightly recovering with mid-50s inland, upper 50s around the bay and coastside. but we touched upon that coldest air of the season. i'll detail that for you coming up. chris. >> cold early temperatures cannot only be bad news for plants, but people who switched to drought-revies tent landscaping could be more at risk. we have the story. >> can see here how it's kind of wilting. >> they took quick action at the people's garden in vallejo where they grow organic vegetables for the homeless. temperatures remember predicted to be at or near freezing. >> those are in the ground so those should be fine.

cool afternoon and then another cold outbreak or i should say a colder outbreak heads our way by the end of the year, which is just around the corner. 39 san carlos, morgan hill 33. closer to the water we are milder. sfo in the legal 50s and many of these locations in the protected valleys, petaluma, napa, looking at patchy frost. we will see more of that overnight tonight. but monday morning should be the warmest morning. freezing in santa rosa and napa. 35 out in concord. so, yes, it is just after 5:00 and the temperatures should tumble another actual or three degrees in some spots. the emeryville camera it is clear. you have to patchy frost this morning. seasonably cool days ahead for the weekend. that's today and tomorrow. we will wake up to some fog on monday. but unfortunately the storm door stays shut for the week ahead,

which will keep us dry for the rest of the year. we are looking at the possibility, though, of with this cold, cold air, maybe some low elevation snow around mt. hamilton. snow levels could drop to around 3,000 feet with a little bit of moisture come tuesday into wins at the same time but in the meantime here is saturday morning with a cool and dry air mass. high pressure allowing for sunny skies and that will be the rule throughout the next several days. but then that colder air mass will begin to descend late monday into tuesday. so that will allow temperatures to drop into the 20s for overnight lows. so afternoon highs today just 38, recovering from the 7 in the sierra they have with 63 in palm springs, 62 sunny skies los angeles. it's not as dry north and south and all points in between. upper 50s santa clara, 56 morgan hill. some of the cooler numbers away from the water.

morning. we will look for a few high clouds later on in the day today, but other than that the temperatures will be seasonable throughout the afternoon. we will talk about the colder outbreak in a few minutes. chris? lisa, thank you. new this morning, authorities in sacramento were force today close down a mall after a scuffle broke out among a group of teenagers. it happened yesterday evening at the arden mall. police say they were force today close it down two hours earlier than usual. they say it was precautionary and to prevent a prepietrus from two years ago where teens went through the mall knocking over signs. it was misinterpreted as gunshots and forcing the name to be placed under lock down. if santa bought you a piece of technology for christmas there's a good chance he didn't stick around to help get it up and running. as chris bloom points out, that's what after christmas is

>> this isn't an animation. it's time-lapse of the northern lights and other earthly wonders taken from space. the german astronaut took more than 12,000 pictures over six months while aboard the international space station. he combined the impressive shots of the aurora, cities, sunrises, lightning into this six-minute video. space-x said it will attempt a it felt landing in the coming weeks. they will dump their bow session but space x wants to keep the lower space of the falcon 9. that base section is 14 stories tall and will be climbing at a speed of nearly a mile per second n early january space-x plans to land it standing straight up on a barge in the ocean. the target is just 30 feet and the target will be moving, since it is a floating barge at best. space-x estimates it has a 50% chance of pulling off the landing.
